Definitely following this series. The expedition style camper on a big rig has caught my eye (family of 4x currently with a ford transit ..space is a premium).
I've been watching you since you launched your channel, I like alot of adventure channels, yours however is my favorite, your enthusiasm and how you've mapped your life is inspiring. Now your going to build the rig that you've always wanted this will be very cool and wish you all the best towards that endeavor.
Thank you very much for the kind words! It’s been a wild ride, and I feel so fortunate to be able to do this caliber of build. Wouldn’t be possible without my amazing fans so thank you!!
Hello! Love your channel. After watching you, I feel great about what I did. I just completed a 2024 diesel F550 4x4 crew cab CA 60. I used Buckstop for the single wheel conversion and I had Globetrekker's zero torsion subframe installed and put a Kingstar Kruzr 8 with storage boxes on it. Love it! Maybe see you in the wilderness some day!
Good choices. I am a Chevrolet diehard, unfortunately Chevrolet doesn't have a 450... or 550. Compared to the Ford. Truckware has some fantastic products. Perhaps a combination of the old school and new version bumper. So you get the additional protection for the headlights. Broken headlights are expensive. The suspension setups are very nice. Important discussions there to ensure ride quality and ability to handle the weight. Lockers front and rear, and properly geared. Additionally a good transfer case and transmission setup. Something that allows low low speed crawling with the weight and highway cruising at highway speeds with the weight. Interior cab creature comforts are just as essential. Cameras, infotainment, everything. Winches and lights outside. Communication and solar..... Then of course the camper... creature comforts and interior room... slide outs.. At some point, you may be joined with someone else other than you and your dog. Room and attributes for two are important. What are your long term plans and goals ? Forever living on the road ? Or within .... time obtaining a base home and this becomes just a temporary home ????? Going to various shows and events. You mentioned a trailer and SxS... a cargo trailer is a better option. Enclosed and secure. Can additionally store the bikes. Plus it protects things better. Cost wise very close to a standard open trailer. Just provides better options. This is a great move. Lots to consider. But that's the best part. Being well planned using the experience of being on the road and putting together the ultimate vehicle and home. Nothing wrong with being comfortable. Afterall, it's your home. Plus your profession, being able to show up for an event and stay ... and be presentable and be on the road for hours and stop and not be wore out and road weary. That's important as well. Be bouchie !! Step up your whole game. I am somewhat surprised you're not hauling a toy hauler 5th wheel. Pulled by a nice 4x4 truck.
Saw the sneak peak on Timmys channel, looking forward to the build should be good, hopefully inside storage for the bikes too - thats what I want to see more love for the MTB.
I think that you have been a realtor for quite some time now and we didn’t even realize it. But yes sir you have been a heck of a builder and it just keeps getting bigger and better
Congratulations on your new buildI can't wait to see what it's gonna look like. I was trying to find a video of bison's work. They did on that fuso you showed a clip of but I couldn't find it.
If you don't want the extra wheelbase, you could always build the new camper on a single cab chassis. Betting you wound up with transmission dramas running the Fuso after the sounds it was making.
Those Buckstop aluminum singles rock. We have 210 offroad Baja trails on them and counting without any issues. The Pirelli PS22's have been a great tire combo. Climbs like a goat and will clear anything our Jeep would so long as you have an 8x11 foot space.
WoW -- I've never heard of Bison Overland campers but noticed the Marshal shirt that Drew was wearing and had to look up the website and found that their out of Tulsa (I'm located in Tulsa). I've been researching overland rigs for awhile. I may reach out to see if I can view any of their campers that are in progress. The F550's are the way to go!!!
Will be following along with this one. I'm torn between truck and van based. I can imagine wanting/needing full sized truck but most of the needs would be met by a van. We'll see.
Either way, you’ll probably find pros and cons with either. My advice is try one of them out and if you get it for a good price you can always sell and go the other way!
Didn't think it would take you long to jump into a new build. I have been looking for a 450/550 to SS and FB with my current TC that will eventually get a composite box once my ranch property is finished so I can build it 🤙💫looking forward to watching the build so I can steal/ borrow some ideas 😬🤣
Love it, best luck. I am worried for you though, lol! As a midsize truck adventurer, I think of all the places in WA, OR, ID, Utah that require more capability than a Subaru but more nimbleness than F550s with 12' boxes. Seems it limits you to forest service roads or very tame and wide secondary roads, at which point you don't really need the beefy 4x4 capability. But, that comes from my own ignorance. Maybe that's why you're going to tow SxSs!
Stoked for you bud. I’m also in the process of super singling out a 5500 w/liquid springs. (Dusty from buckstop is awesome as well.) The 3500 just wasn’t cutting it being way too far overweight with my current setup, and after having a wheel fall off doin 60 mph in Yellowstone during march with no reception at 1045 pm (tow didn’t get me home til 615am the next day) I decided to go big. Definitely gonna get back to makin vids with the build too. My channel name deserves it 😂
Maybe a single cab F-550 if wheelbase is an issue. I have a Buckstop bumper, design is nice overall. Powder coating is not holding up well and I kind of wish I got it in aluminum to save some weight.

You know, since you mentioned that you have been "living full time on road..., " For five years now. That about makes you the longest, full time "off road / overlanding " person who is still living as such. Except maybe one other. He lives in his 4x4 Van. But, he has a shop that he stays in occasionally, and i believe a house as well. Everyone else has stopped. (Not counting full-time RV'ers..) They have married and / or just returned to living in a house or both. Just something to note as you progress.
I imagine living in a small box trying to find a place to park and sleep, dump a toilet and trying to manage power can get less adventurous and more of a headache after a few years. Might as well have a homebase and then go camping in the $350K rig over a weekend 😂
@marcomcdowell8861 I believe that after a period of time. Your right, plus other interests and or parties [relationships], come into play. Other opportunities within the business perhaps. The desire after a while of not constantly looking for a place to stay. Which in many areas is becoming more difficult and costly. Along as does the desire to have more creature comforts even.
I am finally about done leaving an extremely abusive marriage, I have a protective order and my abuser is out on $5k bond for trying to stab me. I have no family and nowhere to live in a couple weeks when I have to vacate my home. Can I have the outback after you build the new one for a home? I can make payments even possibly but I just don’t want to be homeless. I can provide documentation to verify all this info, thanks, god bless.
