With Going Boldly we are moving into a further phase of the journey towards the movies with an upgraded ship, new Kirk and new adventures. We have some very exciting new stories to tell in the upcoming episodes of Star Trek Phase II.

That was from a Ralph McQuarrie concept drawing early in the Phase II planning back in the 1970s, which also is the source of the Enterprise design that ultimately became the Discovery.
Fantastic, condensed episode of Star Trek New Voyages! Beautiful visual effects and the design of the Enterprise is a very honorable transition between the original series and the motion picture refit! Absolutely, an incredible job well done to everyone involved! Thank you from a Star Trek fan who loves your work!!!
That alien is Arex of the 1970's Animated series an Edosian. He's tripodal (and three arms) and if ever depicted walking should walk much like the three legged Species 8472 of Voyager.

I haven't seen enough of the new Kirk to decide on that yet. But this is high level stuff for sure, and the graphics are simply FANTASTIC!!! Absolutely BRILLIANT work!! :-)
this is great, plus the CGI or makeup on the alien bridge officer from the animated show well done, and not making fun of this at all however just once i would have loved it if the captain of a 23rd century ship said: "he knew the risk, he wore a red uniform, deal with it...." lol
I love this....thank you for making this film .....its needed as much as I need this and others who have grown up with the ST series and movies....God bless

Cool! I love the "Mr. Arex" Guy. If I remember correctly they created him Because they Couldn't afford Walter Koenig on a Filmation Budget but didn't want anybody else to V/O Chekov
James Doohan, was hired for all the male voice (including Arex) (except Dr. McCoy, Capt. Kirk, and Mr. Spock) and Majel Barrett the female voices (including M'Ress). When a Leonard Nimoy discovered George Takei, and Nicelle Nicols of the original cast were not to be included in the animated series, Leonard Nimoy said that Star Trek was about diversity (minorities or people of color), and if they weren't included, he wouldn't be involved. That so rarely happens in Hollywood, as George Takei has said, it speaks a lot about Leonard Nimoy (I would add it speaks volumes). Of course they weren't in every episode (to cut down on expenses). Chekov was absent to cut down on costs of hiring the voice actors (as were Uhura and Sulu), although Walter Koenig penned an episode of the animated series,"The Infinite Vulcan". In 1973, the Animated Series had it's strengths (more and different Aliens, and moreFederation and Alien vessels could be cheaply portrayed), but at half an hour minus commercials, the stories were more compressed. However, the episode titled, The Slaver Weapon, contained only Spock, Uhura, and Sulu, taken captive by the Kzinti, one of the better episodes.
@@Renshen1957 I like the Filmation Trek series. City on the Edge of Forever was the most expensive TOS shot, $250,000 which in today's money according to inflation calculators (but not what could be purchased for equivalent goods) is $2 million dollars. In 1967 you could be a comic for 12 cents would according to an inflation calculator would be 93 cents. The cheapest comic is $3.00, so really the price of the episode is closer to $6 million dollars, much more than the Next Generation. However, NBC, CBS, ABC, from NBC trying to kill Star Trek (put in the 2nd worst and then the worst time slots for 2nd and 3rd seasons) wouldn't have bought the animated series, even thought the Bugs Bunny Road Runner show had performed well, and the original run of the Flintstones, or Johnny Quest showed the feasibility of prime time cartoons .

@@startrekphase2DE James did a great job as Kirk as well as Brian here. I just wish you guys could be allowed to finish up the episodes you filmed to wrap up the show properly. I, like many other fans, was really looking forward to seeing them but I can understand wanting to avoid legal action from CBS in regards to finishing up the VFX and releasing them anyway. I would hope that by now CBS had relaxed a bit on their rather draconian rules they threw down regarding fan films but alas it seems to have not changed since Discovery and the other new official Trek shows have come out. It's a shame too because fan productions like this one kept the franchise alive for many of us fans who were hungry for new Star Trek material and still are who are not fond of what CBS/Paramount have been doing with the franchise as of late.
Nice touch seeing Lt. Arex from the animated series on the bridge. I always loved the Edoian character (I believe that is what the race was called, if I remember the FASA RPG correctly).
I thought Kirk had never met the legendary Garth of Izar in person before the TOS episode ... and last saw Garth as a medicated incurably-insane mental patient at the end of the episode?
@@pwnmeisterage not necessarily incurable. I’m guessing that the cure was found for Garth’s condition, and after a period of rehabilitation, he was back to his old self.
James Cawley was a brilliant actor and as an impersonation artist matched Shatner's energy perfectly. This new guy looks more like Shatner, but his voice is incredibly jarring, Shatner has a very deep voice with a distinct tone, and this new actor's voice is higher and he doesn't attempt to match Shatner's performance style, which is disappointing. On a brighter note, I love the new nacelle design; the Enterprise was well overdue a refit having been in service for like, 25 years without a change
What happened to THIS Brian Gross? His voice is a bit too Michael J. Fox-like, but his presence and delivery in this vignette are immeasurably better than anything he's done since. It's a different take on Kirk, but the character is still there. He doesn't cut through the camera at all in the episodes I've seen.
Our trust. Putting him square in the limelight gave us the chance to check if we could believe in him, if he has what it takes for the role. And he does. I wish James Cawley was continuing but Brian Gross should make a good starship captain, maybe a good Kirk. Keep up th good work, guys!
The TMP uniforms might make an appearance, but I doubt much else. This is supposed to be set between the time the show was cancelled and TMP. After their 5-year mission was over, there was still another 2 and 1/2 years.
This is the phase 2 Enterprise from the series that would have aired in 1977 or 78. But the Paramount producers wanted a movie so we had.TMP in 1979. This ship was designed by Matt Jeffries for Phase 2 . He designed the original one as we all know. Andy Probert re designed this ship for Star Trek TMP.
James Cawley was simply too busy as America's #1 Elvis Presley impersonator to continue in this role. That is why it was decided to let Brian Gross take on the job.
When I comment I want you to understand that I am not attacking you. I'm trying to help you. Captain Kirk was put in some pretty seriously impossible situations but he was not Reckless. He would never push to take a ship out with an experimental engine and also down 22 crew members unless there were innocent lives at stake. The acting is great I love the new Navigator excellent job on that. I know you guys love Star Trek or you wouldn't be doing what you're doing but there are mistakes and when I see them I'm going to call you out on them because this show is so important to me as well. Please keep it clean too. Thank you for what you're doing.
I liked this very much. Perhaps a bit low on lighting, but aside from that, great sets, nice music, decent dialogue and pretty good acting. I'm hooked. Likey likey. I want to see more!
Sadly only 1 episode was released before CBS/Paramount put down new rules involving fan films which pretty much killed the Star Trek fan film community in regards to films with productions qualities like this. There are at least 3 more episodes from what I've read they did but can't be released due to unfinished VFX and legal reasons. It would be nice if they ever got released one day but I'm not holding my breath.
Hey Yo Hùng that’s right, and he’s portraying a much healthier Garth in this featurette which takes place long after the Original Series episode “Whom Gods Destroy,” with Steve Ihnat as Garth.
Love the in-between look of the refit. I'll give the New Kirk a fair chance, it took Cawley until the Sulu episode to really nail it, after all. Poor Peter...
To be honest, when I first watched this I kinda expected a slightly modified bridge with a second Turbolift to show the advancement in technology towards the TMP bridge.
I know there are a lot of Cawley lovers out there, and make no mistake, I'm appreciative of all he personally did to make Phase II a reality, but... I'm really not going to miss his version of Kirk that much. It seemed to me like a borderline parody of Shatner crossed with (dare I say it) an Elvis impression. (And yes, I know of his Elvis impersonating acclaim.)
The preview looks good. Not sure if changing Kirk now is a good idea. Did James Cawley pass away? James lived and breathed the part of Kirk when he was onscreen. Still glad the adventures are continuing. Very excited to see Lt. Arex! He looks great!
okay folks i know this is an old thread now but how about that navigator on the bridge? doesn't he remind you of the navigator from the star trek cartoon series? looks pretty much the same guy just not red like in the cartoon...
Interesting. I'll be interested in seeing how this goes, especially with the new actor playing Captain Kirk. I think he'll be good, but for some strange reason he seems to me to be like a combination of Shatner's Kirk and Dr. Dave Bowman from "2001: A Space Odyssey". I guess that could come in handy in case any more computers start raising HAL in forthcoming episodes...
There is no shame in crying over the loss of a loved one, when I lost my sister I walked way off and my wife curious to find out why ,she found me crying ,and as she held me ,she told me that, and it is true

@@startrekphase2DE I thought he did very well in the episodes that he was part of. I’m just guessing that the fans wanted someone who resembled Shatner more closely.
Well, it's a challenge to introduce a new actor in the central role. This was a clever way to introduce the new guy. He has to win
Every one looks great including the Phase 2 Enterprise. Very nice job.
Awesome mini movie of second phase
Nice touch seeing Lt. Arex from the animated series on the bridge. I always loved the Edoian character (I believe that is what the race was called, if I remember the FASA RPG correctly).
James does not get paid for Phase II, Elvis is what pays for Phase II.
I love the look of the "transition" Enterprise... very clever! I enjoy your episodes, keep it up.
Brian will grow into the role. Looking forward to the new adventures. And, yes...Lt. M'Ress would be nice. :-)
wait... is that the Axanar guy as Captain Garth? Holy excrement!
Yes, Captain FARCE himself.
I thought Kirk had never met the legendary Garth of Izar in person before the TOS episode ... and last saw Garth as a medicated incurably-insane mental patient at the end of the episode?
@@paulhunter1525 technically, this is after Garth’s rehabilitation. Starfleet was more than happy to welcome him back.
@@pwnmeisterage not necessarily incurable. I’m guessing that the cure was found for Garth’s condition, and after a period of rehabilitation, he was back to his old self.
We got one full episode with the Phase II design. I guess it'll have to do. I still hope to see more.
Wonderful seeing the new refit on the Enterprise.love that ship!trek on!
That asteroid spacedock, looks very similar to the one made by the Tholians in the mirror universe in an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise.
I see Lt. Arex, but where is M'Ress? Or is this during a time, when Uhura was still in commission on the Star Trek Enterprise?
I liked this vignette...it was moving, especially when they played the Taps
And I liked how they included names of the staff in the list of lost comrades ! Nice touch !
I knew he did that sort of work to help fund the project, but I had no idea he was so popular! Way cool!
Yep. One of the best Elvis impersonators out there still.
The TMP uniforms might make an appearance, but I doubt much else. This is supposed to be set between the time the show was cancelled and TMP. After their 5-year mission was over, there was still another 2 and 1/2 years.
I wish this was longer,
good god he makes a good Kirk.
Do you believe that he could portray a young Cadet version of the character that William Shatner originally brought to life?
Paul Masters Johnson if they need someone to portray the young James T. Kirk, I think Brian Gross is the best option nowadays.
Love the storyboard commitment of these actors & of the visually pleasing effects , they are truly enjoyable 🖖😎
Nice to see a live action Lieutenant A'Rex
Mr Arex!!! I exclaim happily.
He remained as an Executive Producer, though.
look forward to the news episodes
Nothing like music from the Wrath of Khan to get the blood pumping!
great job!
Awesome! Except why does the warp naccelles look smaller than the saucer section?
So, when are new episodes featuring this ship coming out?
Sadly only 1 episode was released before CBS/Paramount put down new rules involving fan films which pretty much killed the Star Trek fan film community in regards to films with productions qualities like this. There are at least 3 more episodes from what I've read they did but can't be released due to unfinished VFX and legal reasons. It would be nice if they ever got released one day but I'm not holding my breath.
Beautiful ship!!
It’s Alec Peters a.k.a. Captain Garth of Izar from Axanar
Hey Yo Hùng that’s right, and he’s portraying a much healthier Garth in this featurette which takes place long after the Original Series episode “Whom Gods Destroy,” with Steve Ihnat as Garth.
Kirk: "whose the navigator with the LONG face?"
Wow,amazing.
I love Arex appearing at the end. He look great. Hope he will appear more. Any chance of M Res appearing in the future
Omg, I just recognized Alec Peters!
Love the in-between look of the refit. I'll give the New Kirk a fair chance, it took Cawley until the Sulu episode to really nail it, after all. Poor Peter...
Brian Gross resembles William Shatner from the 60's and sounds similar to Chris Pine.
Best of Both Worlds, if you think about it.
filling in the "IN BETWEEN THE LINES" we wonder what happens to a redshirt once they have been zapped...
Since I didn't see Chekov, he must be away at security training school.
Still a great fan film series.
To be honest, when I first watched this I kinda expected a slightly modified bridge with a second Turbolift to show the advancement in technology towards the TMP bridge.
The TAS bridge, actually.
😊 thx u
the fudderation with the starship enterprise venturing forth its rounded bulk spread out like a cobra ready to strike
Spock kinda looks like " the fonz"
Saw a couple of other episodes and he does a REMARKABLE job !
The Legend Of Super Nerd Supershow
That's because Spock is cool.
Hurry up & make more
Amazing
So, do we eventually get treated to a bridge redesign/new uniforms TMP feel?
Muy bueno!
The preview looks good. Not sure if changing Kirk now is a good idea. Did James Cawley pass away? James lived and breathed the part of Kirk when he was onscreen. Still glad the adventures are continuing. Very excited to see Lt. Arex! He looks great!
Brian Gross is totally better than James Cawley.... The lighting play in Brian's profile in the final scene is GENIUS, classic TOS...
okay folks i know this is an old thread now but how about that navigator on the bridge? doesn't he remind you of the navigator from the star trek cartoon series? looks pretty much the same guy just not red like in the cartoon...
They kept that red bridge a bridge set that recieves very little compliments today.
Lots of people love that bridge. "No damn A, B, C or D!" Scotty on TNG: Relics.
Does that admiral use his uniform insignia as a doily to put his coffee cup on?
How did I miss this one?
We have one TAS character where is M’Ress?
M’Ress was behind Spock and Kirk on communications. Unfortunately, we do not see that part of the bridge in this vignette....
startreknewvoyages
thanks for responding, I think it’s cool that you included them, most people forget that the animated series exists
startreknewvoyages if M’Ress was going to appear, how would you have brought her to life? Makeup effects or CGI?
6:53 This is the good part.
Well, it matches, no? Lighting up the Enterprise, etc?
Interesting. I'll be interested in seeing how this goes, especially with the new actor playing Captain Kirk. I think he'll be good, but for some strange reason he seems to me to be like a combination of Shatner's Kirk and Dr. Dave Bowman from "2001: A Space Odyssey". I guess that could come in handy in case any more computers start raising HAL in forthcoming episodes...
All2Meme
"Raising HAL"?
😳🤨😒😖
There is no shame in crying over the loss of a loved one, when I lost my sister I walked way off and my wife curious to find out why ,she found me crying ,and as she held me ,she told me that, and it is true
Judging by the Star Trek Discovery trailer, it appears that you're on the same page as CBS/Paramount!
that was good ended way to qwick good job to all involved!!
