Nothing beats the J5 debut performance of December 14, 1969. It’s not even close.

Us baby boomers were grateful for Marvin Gaye, we came of age during his era, lived it as teens/20s brought his albums and saw him live.
    He really defined our generation

Unquestionably, MOTOWN was the "it" thing for me.
I had all their records and would go see them either at the Howard Theater in Washington, D.C.; the Royal in Baltimore. MD. and the Uptown in Philly.
Those were the Days my friend I thought it would Never end!! I'm so Grateful that my teenage years was so MOTOWN influenced❤❤❤❤❤

Excellent summary!! I think it would be difficult to bring together more brilliant stars than these in 7 minutes of video... Motown and the Motown Sound is the living history of popular music, and especially soul music... The great stars who put a face and voice to the different labels of the "factory" enjoyed well-deserved popularity, but what would have happened to them without the magnificent producers and composers such as Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Norman Whitfield and many others? Under the spotlight on stages or in the shadows of recording studios, talent called for talent, that was Motown...

Literally all of the Motown performances have been released on numerous Ed Sullivan DVD and VHS compilations over the years. If you are over thirty and are just now viewing these clips you can easily find the full performances. The Supremes with The Temptations is a newly released snippet. Perhaps the full will show up soon? Count Basie please..There is so much in the Sullivan vault I can’t imagine the forgotten or overlooked jewels.

As a matter of fact, Junior Walker & The All Stars did appear on HULABALOO on the NBC Network about a year prior to Marvin's only performance on Sullivan's show. I believe only the kinescope from that episode survived. Some years back, the Universal archives was caught in a massive fire, with some of the master videotapes for HULABALOO completely destroyed...😢❤
