Until the mid 1990s, singers had to actually sing. Which is why if you watch bands from the early 1990s and before, they sound the same live as they do on records. That’s not 100%. Milli Vanilli lip synced to prerecorded vocals. (But the guys who actually sang those songs sounded great live) The same producer, Frank Farian, created another group called Boney M; in the 1970s. None of the people in that band sung on the record. They did lip synced performances with a ton of back up singers who were actually singing. Boney M never had their record skip, so the general public had no idea that they weren’t really singing. And they were a German group. Europeans aren’t as upset about lip syncing as Americans are.

Let's begin with the Beatles song "Let it Be ". The brothers were in perfect synchronization and harmony. And Michael's lead vocals sounded like the angel that he is. Moving on to the interview, Jackie stated that Michael had been performing since he was 4 years old. So if anyone is wondering why he was so talented, he was born with the gifts that God gave him and he worked his tail off to perfect his talents just to please us! Michael was only 15 years old when this show aired and he had already been nominated for an Academy Award for the song "Ben". And just in case you missed it, the brothers had just performed for an audience of 100,000 people in Africa a month prior to this show. None of us knew that 5 years after this performance, in 1979, Michael would release his "Off the Wall 🧱 " album and he would become the greatest entertainer this world will ever see! I'm the same age as Michael so I grew up loving Michael's unbelievable talents! Thanks for being the soundtrack of my life Michael. I still don't go a single day without listening to your music and I never will stop listening! @Finessnu2 Not true. Yes there was racism, but we don't need to make it worse than it was.
You can see lots of black people on TV in the 70s. I grew up then too. For example if you watch The Brady Bunch and there are other children... You will see kids from various races. I remember a TV show with a black female lead. Even Star Trek in the 60s had a black woman. She even had an on-screen kiss with a white man. (Which was a big deal back then.) Roots came on in the 70s. My English teacher told us to watch it if we could. (Some parents might not allow kids to stay up that late) if everybody was so racist, it never would have made the air. It even got a sequel.

@Finessnu2 That's not it. Johnny didn't listen to 'pop music' of the time. He had almost no top 20 pop artists on in the 60's and early 70s. The Jackson 5 were superstars since they appeared on Ed Sullivan in 1969. Johnny had on Redd Foxx, Lou Rawls, Aretha Franklin. The 4 Tops, Barry White, Diana Ross. Dont claim 'racism' without knowing the facts. He never even had The Beatles on. Johnny just didnt dig 'Pop'

I’ll agree that 1960s and 70s music is fantastic. And singers had to actually be able to sing back then too. But musicians back then did waaay more scandalous things back in the 1960s and 70s than what goes on now. Most of the guys in those big rock bands in the 60s/70s regularly had sex with girls who were WELL under age 18. Both Steven Tyler and Ted Nugent became legal guardians for their 15-16 year old girlfriends. So they wouldn’t get in trouble traveling with an underaged girl. Steven Tyler also forced his 16 year old girlfriend to have a late term @bortion. This was after she woke up to the house being engulfed in flames. She had been put in that house, by one of the band’s handlers. She only survived because she crawled into the fireplace. She described the baby as definitely being alive ; and seeing the doctor kill her son. (I’m Pro-Choice, but this was not her choice. Nobody gets an abortion like that unless either the mother or baby is dying) Oh and Chris Isaak went to my junior prom with a classmate of mine; who was his girlfriend. She was 16 and he was 28. Another friend of mine grew up in Oklahoma. Her friend dated Tommy Shaw from Styx. When she was 14-15 years old. And let’s not forget that Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin dated Lori Lightning, when she was 14. She described how she had been forced into a limo and brought to Jimmy’s hotel room. To be fair, Lori has never claimed that Jimmy Page forced her to do anything. But even back then, an adult dating a 14 year old girl was definitely not normal. Or legal. Musicians were so much more wholesome then. 😑
