    Perform preventive maintenance
As with any piece of equipment, inspection and maintenance of your RV refrigerator are important for performance and longevity. We recommend the following:
Keep an eye on the evaporator inside your refrigerator. If ice starts to cover the fins, defrost your refrigerator or simply take a hair dryer and melt the ice.
Don’t let your freezer become an ice block. We know it’s an easy thing to put off, but defrost it whenever necessary. Plus you’ll have more space once it’s done!
Check the outside condenser coil and propane components at least once a year, especially if you haven’t used your refrigerator in awhile or if you’re experiencing problems. Remove the outside vent and check for any dust, cobwebs, nests, or general debris. If necessary, use compressed air to blow it clean or simply brush or wipe it clean.
Keeping track of your maintenance with an online tool such as Maintain My RV.

RV refrigerator maintenance is important. It's a vital appliance in your RV and keeping it clean and frost free helps prolong it's life and the health of the food inside it. We do ours at least yearly, but usually more. If we lived full time in our RV we would probably do it monthly; but we don't. We use the travel trailer probably 5 to 10 times a year.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the dometic refrigerator. I just had a horrble experience defrosting mine. I was under the impression that during the defrost all of the water would drain outside of my rv. NOT. I came back 5 hours later and discovered a pool of water at the base of my refrigerator on the floor. What a shocking site to see. We spent twenty minutes mopping up water. I also place a humitfier inside to assit with the drying process. After watching your video, I've since learned the top freezer doesn't drain into the drip tray inside of the refigerator. I'm hoping there is not hidden damages under the floor. Thanks for sharing...

Sorry to hear that. I think if it was just that one time getting wet, your floor should be ok.

Yeah good idea to get ahead of that big freeze before it cracks something make out of aluminum or plastic

Yeah. What happens is the humidity in the RV just keeps adding and adding to these ice chunks until you have no space to put anything. One friend of mine never did this for years on his RV and most of the freezer was just ice. Dehumidifiers in an RV do help reduce buildup.

I did everything you said but then I noticed a tiny tail light at my hitch so I pressed a button down and the tail light went off, stay with me here, I think it's fridge related....(battery related ?maybe?) so I pressed the on/off button at the top of my Dometic RV Fridge; (2023 Heartland Pioneer DS320), and the the orange light near the word "Auto" went off, I placed a towel. I had as much ice as yours...Came back the next day and the towel had done its job. No mess. I pushed the on/off button again and the orange light near the "auto" button came back on. The fridge is back on....not cold even after 1 hour. Just wondering if the button I pressed outside at the hitch caused anything to go wrong. I have been plugged into a 50 amp for about 2 months and do not unplug. All electricity and AC is going fine. I'm thinking I switched to gas by accident or turned off electricity mode to the fridge or something! When I press in the gas button 'in' , the orange light stays on, when I press the gas button and it pops 'out' just a little the orange light at "auto" goes off. Any ideas...no haters please, I'm just trying to ask this guy for help! Honestly I think maybe I just need to wait 1 whole day since I'm in TX, it's summer time and it's triple digits. The freezer seems a bit cold but only on the back wall.

So I read though that and I am not sure what the button is at the hitch. Was the trailer hooked up to a vehicle or just parked and unhitched? I even watched some videos about your camper and I don't see anything that matches that description.
As for the refrigerator, there was 2 buttons on mine. On/off and Auto. The on/off turns the fridge on or off of course and the Auto button looks for 110v power and tries to go propane if 110v power is not available. It may have tried to go propane and did not light? Not sure.
It's been a few days, did you figure it out? If so, what was it? If not, let me know and I will try to help you through it.

I have a older norcold but I had a situation when I turned it off to clean it. My problem was a fuse in the back of the fridge in a black box (there are videos about the hidden fuse) my friend who isn't scared of electricity like me fixed it in under 5 mins. I'm thinking when you pushed that button on your hitch you turned off the fridge somehow or possibly blew a fuse? I've been learning as I go on this adventure but I have found that owning a box of fuses is a good thing! Lol and heck the only bad question is the one unasked right? 🤍

The build up in my freezer wasn't as bad as yours but I live in mine. It has been longer than a year. I'm new to RVing. I just figured it was time since the things in the freezer aren't freezing?

Well, I think they are suppose to be already, but I am not a fan of the RV type refrigerators. They never seem to work great.
