That’s the content we truly need in the internet. Thanks! In my situation, my fridge drawers were leaking, so I took them out and put glass bowls instead (it also allowed to make water hotter and that sped up the process). Hope it helps someone!
This actually works! I won't dread defrosting the freezer anymore and booking out a day to do it! I realise now I've been doing it wrong! Thanks for posting
Thanks for the tips! ❤ Last year, my top drawer froze shut 😅 I was still able to open it with a bit of strength, so I thought to myself "I need to defrost it soon" 😅😅😅 but I just moved out to my own house and never did this and had no idea how to do it. The instruction manual says to empty the freezer and leave it open overnight, but with hot weather and no second freezer, I didn't want to risk leaving my food out all night. This video popped up and it looked so easy! I decided to go ahead and defrost it immediately! It took a good hour and a half with changing the cooled down water for hot water every 15 minutes. But with minimal scraping, I don't mind at all! I'm glad my freezer is perfectly clean and clear of ice! It's the first time in 4 years I defrosted this freezer 😅 (I got it brand new when I moved!) But now I know how easy it is, I won't procrastinate when it's time to do it again! ❤
I've always believed that the universe always gives me hints on what I need to do so thanks to this random video in my recommendations I shal be having egg and chips tonight. 🍽
I only have this little freezer department on top of my fridge and it was basically just an ice block at this point. That’s why I couldn’t add anything to let it melt. So here’s what I did: I warmed water to 80 degrees, put it in a little spray can and sprayed all over the ice. It got relatively loose pretty fast. Than I took a knife and „hammered“ it carefully below. It got loose enough to take the entire thing out as one piece. I threw it in the shower and ran hot water over it. Worked super nicely and now I can actually keep things in there 😅
I have a freezer that pretty much resembles Narnia at this point lmao but I might actually try the spray can/bottle approach and see if that works for me! :)
I just wanted to say Thank you so much for the melting freezer ice how to. For years I have been doing it the wrong way but thanks to you I cleared it in 15mins with ease. Your a star ⭐️ keep up the great advice. Ryan & Cammie
My freezer is 10x worse than this after my dad left the freezer door open for 3days! I was literally about to throw all my food out and switch my freezer off for 24 hours…You saved me a lot of money, food and clean up time, thank you 💙🙏 💙
Oops, silly Dad ! Luckily you managed to salvage all your food, good result. Glad that I could help out, have a marvellous weekend and thanks for the comment. 😎
Is this in winter temperatures? Cuz that's the only way I imagine you'd be looking up a defrosting vid, otherwise it would've already self defrosted into a puddle.
I've lived away from home for a few years- you think I'd be experienced by now, but there's always little things I'm finding myself needing to figure out how to do for the first time. This is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you so much!
I would like to thank you for this how to. BTW I'm in the US. It worked perfectly. I had been putting off defrosting my little freezer but had to finally do it. I checked many ideas on RUclips but yours was the best not a lot of mess and within a little over an hour all the ice was gone. Not a lot of mess on the floor. Thank you so much for your help.
i was struggling with super thick ice frost and then saw this incredible video! It took 2 hours for me just to remove all of the frost! thank you so much! keep up the good work
I usually dont comment vids too much but I must say... This video you uploaded SAVED MY LIFE. lol! You have no idea how I have been preparing and dreading for WEEKS to get it cleared up and been planning so much (I have 4 small kids) but this truly is a lifesaver and I needed to write you so you know how you saved my life(and the food in my freezer that I dont need to figure out what to do withanymore) God bless you sir :)
Thank you! I just purchased an upright freezer with plastic drawers and was wondering how I could make the defrost process easier. This is awesome! If it's that easy, I'll likely defrost it more often.
Thanks for the advice on defrosting the freezer. I’ve just followed your video. And now freezer is clear of ice. Thanks for your time you are so informative.
Glad I found your video - I was wondering how to pull off a defrost on this sunny, midsummer's day! Well I managed with the numerous aluminium baking trays I've hoarded and filled them with hot water. All done, plus cleaning and sorting through in under an hour! Massive thanks!!
Thank you for you great tip on how to defrost a small freezer-refrigerator. It took me a bit longer because my freezer was not cleaned in years, but I succeeded, and I am very happy to see my old freezer working like new again. Thank you very much from Florida.
Thank you so much. Defrosted in under 30mins. I used a steel bowl and poured boiling water in it and then kept it in the basket. Had to reheat the water one more time and voila !!!!!!
Thanks so much!🙏 Put a big tupperware tray of hot water in the freezer compartment for 15 min at a time twice and that did the trick!!🎉 The first time couldn't figure out how to turn the fridge off but it still kind of worked! Best to put a towel under the tray to soak up the melted ice
How else were you doing it? 🙈🙈 Did he suggest putting salt in the water as well? I searched for this for a mate, I don't need to defrost mine, it's the frost free type.
Flying Fist. The fridge and freezer were in the flat when I moved in. They're both second hand and there were no instructions. If the salt works as well, I'll try that next time.
If you defrost before ice builds up, you can leave the food in the trays as it only takes a few minutes with a heater to defrost with very little to clean up. Done on a regular basis instead of leaving it until you have no choice, it is quick and easy, instead of something to dread. If you need to clean the trays, they can be emptied onto the bench as it only takes a quick wipe to clean them, by the time you are done, the freezer is defrosted.
I had a similar small freezer for a while except my drawers were plastic coated wire. I used the hot water method a couple of times but it made a mess on my floor from all the dripping water so I quickly figured out another tactic. I had mine on a little rolling dolly so I would roll it out the front door & use my garden hose to spray it until all the ice was melted. Then dried it out & returned it inside.
Fabulous ....! I need to tackle the ice monster in my freezer. Was dreading doing it. This is so simple , why didn’t I think of this easy hack ! Thanks
I really appreciate your video. I was stressing about how to defrost my freezer before moving out of my apartment because my landlord is very strict and difficult
Honestly never thought of it before. My freezer compartment had lots of ice but this method seriously saved me from considering the long process of open defrosting (too impatient lol 😆). Left the hot water for about an hour cause I wasn't sure if 15 mins was going to be enough for how thick the ice in my fridge was but honestly, one hour was probably too long, 30 mins would likely have done the trick. Thanks so much for the tip ✌
Thank you so much for this! I’ve been putting this job off for months because it takes so long and is such a chore. Done in a fraction of the time! Subscribed. 😁😎👏
Thanks so much for the helpful video! I've aways been a transient, short-term apartment dweller where things like defrosting the freezer had no meaning, aside from a phrase my Mom said when I was a kid. We use 2 large pans with hot water heated on the stove and placed on separated shelves. After a quick wipe down we plug the freezer in and wait until it gets to zero and then replace the food. Ice cream is our favorite freezer food item.
Thanks mate. Beauty. [edit] Just the prep itself took me about 15mins. We didn’t have esky’s so I used plastic crates lined with a bathroom towel to store the frozen products. I transferred the crates to the garage to ensure they wouldn’t defrost too much. I then discovered the freezer trays weren’t sealed 😂🤦🏻♂️ so after a quick swap and mop, the oven trays filled with boiling water (cos they’re metal 😊), and were in, the process could begin. But thanks. This was inspiring for what I have always found to be a daunting task. 😅😂
Thx so much! My fridge is no longer keeping my food fresh due to the seal being old and has shrunk/peeled off so I can prep the defrost to trash it. Also the vid was amazing. No messing straight to the point. These are the kinda vids I personally enjoy as there good to use in a emergency. Amazing work! New sub for sure.
@@LurgsHowToGuides no worries. this is wahat social media is for. solving things not like what happens on the facebook or twitter ect. your a amazing asset to youtube buddy and i appreciate it.
Great video Had a rough start with pouring hot water into my food trays though. My food trays were not sealed enough so had hot water on the floor. But after a shaky start, I can happily say my ice problem in the freezer is solved.
Thanks to your advice I was able to defrost my freezer in 2 hours. I had 10 times the amount of ice than this one did. I placed plastic tubs of hot water in my freezer. I never had an ice scrapper so I used my hands to remove massive blocks of ice.
My freezer is pretty bad but I am just not in the position to properly defrost since I’d have to get rid of a lot of food. This is genius! Granted my freezer doesn’t have trays but I’ll definitely try this with a basin!
Yes just use a plastic washing up bowl and saucepans etc. Make sure you have some towels ready as the ice falls, but hopefully big chunks will fall off. Good luck 😎
My freezer is in the same room as the electric clothes dryer. Open the freezer door, route the flexible dryer hose in front, turn the dryer temperature to Mediterranean (not Sahara), and blast away. Get the missus to stand in the puddle and catch the falling chunks. If her eyes light up, you forgot to unplug the freezer.
You are supposed to use bicarb and water to clean, also turn on freezer and get it to temp before replacing food. Best done on a cold Winter's day, leaving food in bags outside in freezing cold.
No matter how you defrost it, don't damage the cold coils. Clean the door gasket and the front where the gasket seals too. Check the seal with the door closed for any gaps. Any leak will cause frost to form.
I believe if bleach or any harsh chemicals are used on the rubber seals , they will harden and no longer seal well . I have a 30+ year old refrigerator in good condition . However , after Covid hit , some " help " went crazy with bleach and other cleaners . It ate into the white painted finish and then into the metal . It has now started to rust where the paint is gone !
What a brilliant idea I’m quite practical (being a craftsman) and usually find ways to sort out most problems but this is a great idea would never have thought of it well done keep the vids coming! 🙂
Once you have dried the frezzer completely, I put glycerin over all sufaces. When you defrost it next time with just a little steam like this video shows the ice drops away easily. I will say the shelves with all those lines are a pain but it still helps. All the sides and tops aee a joy to watch it drop off. My concern now is glycerin is now sold as a vegetable glycerin so i need to check it out. Fingers crossed 🤞 ive alsi just read a plain flavoured vegetable oil does the same thing, hence me on this site.
Great idea in theory, it may work for many but not for me. The trays in my freezer aren't one moulded piece. They are two bits that clip together so they would leak. I only have one washing up bowl that doesn't fit the shelf so that's not an alternative either. Glad my fridge is now a frost free one though, my next freezer will be too. .
I want to thank you for taking the time to create this and upload it to help others! I have to laugh that I couldn’t figure this out myself- pure genius. Happy new year and many happy returns to you and yours! 🥂
My favorite freez food is ice cream sandwiches made by Mayfield creamery USA. I use a hand held steamer by shark to steam out freezer, done in 10 minutes. Cheers
This is the best video on how to defrost an upright freezer. It worked perfectly for me last year. My problem this year is one of my draws won't come out as something is caught in back. Not sure how to release it without damaging the coils. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ???
@LurgsHowToGuides thanks for getting back to me. We were able to wiggle draw until that caught peace dislodged. Keep up the great videos and thanks. This is the only way we defrost our freezer 👍 ~~~

Thank you for your best tips to clear ice from fridge freezer.
Glad it helped.😎
Great video
Had a rough start with pouring hot water into my food trays though. My food trays were not sealed enough so had hot water on the floor.
But after a shaky start, I can happily say my ice problem in the freezer is solved.
Glad you got there in the end. Great news. 😎
Genius. Using the freezer trays like that. Going to have a go at mine this weekend.
Yeh it’s so much quicker
Thank you! Am following your instructions at the moment and defrosting my very iced up freezer! 👍
Cool. Hope it all went ok
Great vid. Like many others, it never occurred to me to use the trays! Thank you 🙏
No problem. Glad to help out. 😎
Thanks to your advice I was able to defrost my freezer in 2 hours. I had 10 times the amount of ice than this one did. I placed plastic tubs of hot water in my freezer. I never had an ice scrapper so I used my hands to remove massive blocks of ice.
Nice one. Glad that I could help out, sounded like it was really iced up. 😎
This made me 😂
I used to use a wet & dry vac. This is 100 times easier and so much quicker! Thank you so much!
Great news, glad that I could help.😎
Thanks for this. I did exactly that. There was puddle on the floor. The method worked. Will be doing that in the future.
Cool! Glad to help out. 😎
We’ll try it soon!
Our favourite items from the freezer are ice creams & good bread we freeze for later ❄️
Feast ice creams! And frozen lemons for my Gin and Tonic! 😎
best video of the year for me! thank you sir you're an angel👏🌞🌟
Thank you. Have a fab weekend. 😎

What a brilliant idea I’m quite practical (being a craftsman) and usually find ways to sort out most problems but this is a great idea would never have thought of it well done keep the vids coming! 🙂
No problem. If you have curtains you may like this one as well. ruclips.net/video/OjJXYCSURZo/видео.html

thanks I have spent hours with basins previously defrosting my fridge
Yeh it’s a very handy tip😎
2000iq idea, my freezer was looking like mount everest and was cleared in 20 mins. Great video
Great news. Glad to help. 😎
been doing this the wrong way for ages. Thanks fr Singapore.
Yes this is a good way to do it. Glad I could help. 😎
Well - where have you been all my life! 😂 Leaving door open till now was so slow and messy! Thank you for this excellent advice!!!!!
Glad you found me and my channel. Lots of decent tips on here. Glad it helped and have a great week.😎
I always use saucepans, never thought to use the trays lol game changer
Yeh makes it defrost much much faster! 😎
Intereting tip about putting the tray back in with warm water 👍🏻
Great idea in theory, it may work for many but not for me. The trays in my freezer aren't one moulded piece. They are two bits that clip together so they would leak. I only have one washing up bowl that doesn't fit the shelf so that's not an alternative either. Glad my fridge is now a frost free one though, my next freezer will be too.
.
Yeh frost free is the way to go but they are much smaller inside.
Really, really good video .Saved me lots of time and effort.Thank you Lurgs
My pleasure, glad my video helped 😎

I use a hair dryer or a steam tool, but I do this for a living. Hair dryer every one, it work well.
Very useful video. Got benefitted. Thanks a lot. Pls keep doing good work. May God bless you with all which is best for you (not what wish)
Thanks. Vaya Con Dios.😎
I use puppy pads to put in the shelves and underneath, soaks up the water= less mess and no washing towels etc.
Amazing tip, thank you! And thanks soooo much for this video - I’ve been putting this off forever but going to go and do it right now!
I didn't know that these old freezers are still on the market. I bought my frost free freezer 25 years ago and it's still going strong.
Yes I think they are but I’d only ever buy a frost free freezer now
Frost free is great if you have room for a large freezer. However if you have a small freezer the frost free unit takes up half a draw space.
True. The modern fridge freezers are big but when you open the doors they are tiny inside (lots of insulation), they are like a reverse Tardis!
Eye opening video - thank you! (mouth opening also, I like those chips)
@@molengat1 Cheers. Yeh love chips!
Very useful! Thank you! I love your humor and the way you present it.

Thank you. You just convinced me me to buy a no frost freezer.
@@popoymotmot Yes definitely get a frost free one!
My favorite freez food is ice cream sandwiches made by Mayfield creamery USA. I use a hand held steamer by shark to steam out freezer, done in 10 minutes. Cheers

Good evening, it's a very good idea. I will be able to try soon. Thanks a lot..
Thank you. Saved money and time
Thank you, glad to help and hope it's all defrosted. 😎
This is the best video on how to defrost an upright freezer. It worked perfectly for me last year. My problem this year is one of my draws won't come out as something is caught in back. Not sure how to release it without damaging the coils. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ???
Which drawer? Can you not access the back by removing the other drawers?
@LurgsHowToGuides thanks for getting back to me. We were able to wiggle draw until that caught peace dislodged. Keep up the great videos and thanks. This is the only way we defrost our freezer 👍 ~~~
