    I always use a shallow bowl of hot water and a completely drenched hot wash cloth spread out inside the closed freezer for ten minutes or so. Use an old credit card to satisfyingly scrape away the ice. This process takes me less than 30 min every time.

    I use a hairdryer for defrosting mine, works like a charm and super quick

    • @pay4property

      That's incredibly dangerous. Electricity and water can be a lethal mix. Just leaving the doors open in a warm room for long enough it wil defrost naturally or use a bowl of warm water in the bottom as he suggests in the video to speed it up a bit.

      Mine has a defrost button. I just press that to invoke the process and let it do its thing. It can be many hours,even overnight until it's finished,but that doesn't bother me at all. I just go off and do something else and.or relax. I didn't think of the bowl of hot water idea,so simple and obvious in hindsight - thanks Hotpoint people!

    I don't pry at the ice right away, but let it start melting on its own for about an hour or so. Then it comes right off the pipes. I think the pipes and metal radiators might be carrying heat from outside with the unit off. There is sound of bubbling and hissing. I removed a kitchen sink full of solid ice that was easier than collecting water.

    • @rjjcms1
      @rjjcms1 3 года назад

      The only time I've hacked some of the ice away is when I've come home with too many items that need to go in the freezer,and need to make some more space quickly by removing some accumulated ice. A breadknife is my weapon of choice for this.

    • @BalwinderSingh-w9m
      @BalwinderSingh-w9m 4 месяца назад

      @@swampy1234 Basic thermodynamics.
      If you keep the door closed, the heat will stay in the freezer where the ice is. When you apply heat to ice, there is an energy transfer to the ice which causes a state change (called melting) to water.
      If, on the other hand you leave the door open, the heat energy will escape and the ice will take longer to melt.
      I hope that makes it clear.
      As an extension exercise, see if you can explain why food takes longer to cook in an oven where the door is left open than in one where the door is kept closed.

    My fridge is also a hotpoint and been watching a few videos all saying the same thing. Here I am trying to use a freezer de-icer spray and hacking away at the thick ice. The previous owner clearly didn't look after this freezer. I will try this method next weekend, been trying for 30 mins just now and to no improvement. I think the spray is to maintain afterwards and not for these thick layers.

    Answered my own question . Yes you can have your Fridge Freezer Too Cold . I discovered that there was at least an inch of solid ice blocking up the drain hole . Hard to believe, because there is quiet a lot of heat from the Compressor . I had to push a solid rod up the drain hole from the bottom , surprising how much water came out .

    Good afternoon hotpoint customer service, this video was fabulous, I followed the instructions intuitively step by step, and my fridge freezer, is now working well, although, I did wonder why there was a build up of ice 🧊 🧊 happening so often, as I have a frost free fridge, and after an engineer came to my home 🏡 🏡 on Friday 30th July 2021, I found out that my thermostat, needed to be replaced, and now, so far (touch wood) my fridge freezer is working well, and I hope to be able to buy a little more goodies and treats as my birthday is coming up, as well as I will be hosting a little family get together, so the fridge freezer got fixed just in time for this event, and I am so happy.
    Lastly, thank you for your video, I always come to this video when I need to defrost my fridge freezer, as it is very straight forward to follow.

I like tossing the lumps of ice up so that they break up and scatter on impact with the ground and make it look like it's been snowing in the middle of summer.

    I have an old Hotpoint Fridge Freezer and the drain hole is blocked I have cleaned it out before, I managed to pass a probe all the way through until it appeared out of the hole at the bottom . I also pushed it up from the bottom until it came out of the drain hole inside of the fridge . There are 2 circles down there . One has blue foam and a metal clip . The other is a simple white Grommet that, as far as I can remember is the Drain that drips into the drain tray . Is this correct ? I do get a tiny bit of water on the end of my finger if I insert it into this hole . However this time I simply cannot get anything Up or Down the drain whole from either end . Can anyone help !

    I suggest another method.
    I blow air into the open refrigerator with a fan. This is also a quick and drier method.
    Más módszert javaslok.
    Én ventillátorral fújok levegőt a nyitott hűtőszekrénybe.
    A forróvizezés szerintem körülményesebb.
