  • Robbie Collin reviews Collateral Beauty. Facing a terrible tragedy, a man writes letters to Love, Time and Death to try and gain an understanding of the world. When the personification of each responds to him, he begins to see how the world is connected.
    Please tell us what you think of the film -- or Robbie’s review of the film - below. We love to include your views on the show every Friday.

      HeyTray1 did you actually read that article? He legitimately compared Batman's actions towards Harley akin to a rapist. That's not journalism, that's regressive left poison.

      The message they are trying to give is beautiful. Great cast but terriblely written.

    • @loiracitr
      @loiracitr 3 года назад

      @@vajidalishah3595 the message is that there is joy in everything, I supposed. However I find almost insulting how they use dead children to emotionally manipulate us, what does it have to do with collateral beauty? What's the point to tell to a mother who's losing her daughter that there is a collateral beauty? And then she sees it but it has nothing to do with her daughter? To me it is a very confusing (and confused concept). The film Arrival makes a way clearer point: the pain for losing a child is not as deed as the love they gave. What is the point here?

    The worst part is that the trailers all sell this movie as if Death, Time and Love are in fact spirits like in a Christmas Carol! And then you discover they are in fact actors trying to ruin Will Smith's carrier! WTF?!

    • @BruceGiffordJustMyOpinion
      @BruceGiffordJustMyOpinion 7 лет назад +11

      bbkingzor And then at the end you find out they really are spirits pretending to be actors pretending to be spirits and are really there to help the lives of the people trying to ruin Will Smith! What a twist.

      BruceGifford JustMyOpinion Spoiler alert! Well, no one really cares anyways. But yeah, WHAT A TWIST HUEHUEHUE!

    • @BruceGiffordJustMyOpinion
      @BruceGiffordJustMyOpinion 7 лет назад

      asderc1 You're welcome. I was worried about adding the "spoiler", because there are people that legitimately liked this film. I know I seemed to be the only one in the theater that day that didn't like it. It felt like the movie theater experience for Aloha all over again. There were so many times people seemed to be cheering or clapping (actually, they snapped their fingers to imitate a clap, I think) after any "big dramatic" moment or whenever their was a part where someone cries.
      And to be honest, the extra twist of the film is very small at the very end of the movie. It could be argued that the very last part was just in Will Smith's character's head, but I doubt it.

    • @BruceGiffordJustMyOpinion
      @BruceGiffordJustMyOpinion 7 лет назад

      Mr Peaches Latour As underhanded as the marketing is, I have some appreciation for the marketing. They found just the right scenes to try and sell it as something the masses might like. Let's face it, lots of people love feel good movies. If they would have made a trailer out of the real plot, how many people do you think would be horrified by the premise and not go? Marketing found a way to sell the movie and it's quite the feat. Still a bad movie, but I feel marketing did their job.

      bbkingzor. they really are death time and love. ...if u think about it death only talked to the guy dieing and gave him advise on death...time only talked to the girl who the she didnt have enough time to have kids and he gave her advise on time and love only talked to the guy who later on said he wasnt loving anymore he became love .. and at the end they show them as spirits all these reviews are dumb people

    I keep on seeing people in the comments saying 'I actually liked this film' or 'Robbie just doesn't understand it'. I think I might know why.
    See, on the surface, this film is... well, a film. Well known actors, decently shot. Even the editing and pacing is fine. You're sort of lulled into thinking this is legitimate... and then you realise what's actually happening and a part of you may suddenly think 'this is all a bit silly, isn't it?'
    I do think Robbie Collin articulates that impression of this film quite well.

    My CEO also says 'what is your why?' It's from a mark twain quote 'the two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why.' It is a ridiculous question to ask though.

      It sounds like typical bizzspeak, but it is essentially asking people what motivates them - what makes them get out of bed in the morning - and that isn't a stupid question, except for people who are scared of the answer or, worse still, don't have one.

    I am dismayed that nobody seems to get this film and worse, are reading totally erroneous things into it that just aren't there! Robbie says his work partners are trying to cheat him out of his business - NO, they are desperately trying to save the business while he, the 60% owner refuses (for 30 months and counting) to even discuss or show any interest in it. He says the actors are visible to everybody but are airbrushed out of the video to make Howard seem mentally incapable of making a rational decision on the future of the business - NO, that was plan B, if the intervention failed to jerk him out of his bubble, but if you pay attention that is not what happens at all. Indeed the 3 worried friends and partners aren't in control of the situation at all, but are being given their own valuable spiritual lessons just as the Will Smith character is.
    I find it so sad that so many people fail to understand what collateral beauty means, but hope they manage to find it in their lives, nevertheless.
