Mini Shotgun FLECHETTES - Brutal Results - Anferov Bullets

- Today we test out the third type of Anferov Bullets. Almost everything has been re-designed except perhaps the tail fins. These were quite difficult to load, to find the correct recipe of powder.
Again the challenge with these is using American powders for something that would probably be simple using Russian powders. We have not one, but TWO lead plate tests today.
Everything Black Powder - using black powder

I love that this is one of the only channels where you can legitimately blame the gun or ammo every time.
And the lack of and presence of rifling, all at the same time
Thanks guys. I appreciate your dedication to our passion.
You're Welcome!!
I think it would be pretty cool to see a compilation video of everything over the years that have penetrated the lead plate.
Agreed!
Oh yeah, would be cool to see if there's any variables in common between them that you might *not* expect
That's actually a really good idea 👍👍
RUclips can only show the slugs that penetrated the lead plate. For the other stuff, you have to head over to Officer Greg's OF account.
"It's all about penetration."
Some other RUclipsr.
Great video Jeff, You're becoming quite the wizard at figuring out the loads for all these strange projectiles.
Great shooting Ryan, a man can't do any better than his tools allow.
thanks
Ryan must be Greg's younger, keener-eyed brother. Lol
Ryan is one handsome dude. From the low angle you keep filming him from, he looks like he's 8-feet tall!
He is pretty tall in real life
I used to work in machining 30mm sabos with thin armor piercing tungsten rods and have worked on the rods/fins and 3 part sabos. Their velocity are much higher and the rods much thinner but an idea I would have for these would be to make the fins outer diameter smaller and the fins longer. My theory is that when leaving the barrel, the pressure can be different on one or more of the quarters and make it unstable because of this.
I had nothing to do with the engineering of them and don't fully understand the reasons for all the dimensions but had some clues through the colleagues.
I would love to see some of these rounds scaled up to fit Kentucky Ballistics 4 Bore rifle.
Or even better, some of those rounds to fit the Punt gun ( 2 gauge )
Really enjoyed Ryan's commentary, dude's got a great sense of humour 😂
Glad you enjoyed!
Cool results on that last lead plate shot. That's some penetration!
Saw that shot around 13:58 and saw daylight with the fins abandoned... that's one beastly round!
Glad you show the failures and reasons along with the successes.
I like Ryan his one liners are great. He’s quick witted. Let’s keep him around
thanks!
11:00 that fly coming against the camera gave me a little fright! Thought there was a rebound of some sort and a piece came 🪰ing back 😳
Really liked the powder and load explaining in the beginning.
thanks!
I liked what you stated,, "Welcome to prototype testing" That is a TRUE statement. I enjoy your channel, every video has some sort of discovery or twist to it, it is a thinking persons channel and I appreciate what you, the guys do and go through for your viewers. Peace Bro - Dave
thanks Dave!
Good times!!!!!!!!!! Nothing smells better than gunpowder. Thanks for the video! That was fun!!!!!!!!!!!
thank you
A trick for powder loads I learned at black powder shoots, was when you needed volume without increasing the actual powder volume, was to add cornmeal. It worked like a charm and it smelled like tortillas cooking 😉.
You could never bore me with the fine details, knowledge is key. Even if the knowledge is useless to me, being a Brit living in Britain😂
Awesome round , I like how you showed your trial and error with loading and shooting this crazy thing.
Sabot is the French word for the wooden shoes factory workers wore, and disgruntled employees would sometimes toss their shoes into the machinery which would jam the mechanisms or possibly destroy the. And that's where we get the term "Sabotage."
If the projectile is a work or art, the sabot is a masterpiece.
If you havent done this already, heres a fun idea you can try: the current Chinese PLA anti-personnel buckshot load.
It uses 14 pellets of tungsten 5.3mm dia pellets (TT shot) at a velocity of 420 m/s (about 1400 fps). Iirc it also uses a 2 in 5/8 shell.
Apparently its supposed to provide superior penetration at longer ranges than standard buck.
Interesting.
"Waggling through the air" is how I sometimes try to get my wife's attention.😉🙄😁
cream of wheat is supposed to be a good filler material for light powder charges. I don't have any loads that require that sort of buffer, so take anything I've got on that with a grain of salt.
Man you can use a top of a 2-liter for lots of stuff
Great video, as always. Glad to hear y'all made it through the storm, hope all is well. Cheers, from a hot and humid, Texan 🍻💨🤘
I don't know if I would even call it a storm. Just a light rain all Sunday.
13:55 very cool to see the round continue on down the road.
4:20 believe me Jeff when I say this it is not in the slightest bit boring my friend. In fact I find it fascinating the troubles you have to go to too fire these things.
the money this guy puts into molds!!
Love the led plate, should make one in gold, lol
Needs to incorporate a partial base that covers the bottom of the dart fins into the sabot design. That way they can separate with the sabot but also provide a flat surface for a gas check to sit between the sabot and the powder
These were interesting. Oh, and g'day from the East coast of Australia, Bryan.
full pull on Mr. L Plate. Awesome!
Don't know why people would be so down on Ryan. He's been pretty fun on the show. And I'm an actual troll. I'm an evil hideous monster out of ancient Norway. I'm glad there's people on the internet to make me look good.
lollol
Ryan doing great for the channel. Good jokes, doing well on camera, bring him more if he is available. :)
thank you!
You might try blackpowder 2F likely, 3F, maybe?
You might stand a sheet of cardboard behind the lead plate to show where the miss went.
The #1 rule of on-line commenting: Don't feed the trolls.
Once again the content is pure gold thanks
thanks
Brian strikes an omposing figure with his bread & cane. Kinda of like me.
Thank you taofledermaus!
I've got a Remington 760 in 30-06. Same as Danny.
You don’t need to tell Ryan twice to shoot lol!
tie a thin cable, it can be nylon or cotton, to the back of the projectile right in the center, test the measurement and it will be accurate.
Get the accuracy dialed in and that thing is more of a penetrator round! Quite impressive
On a side note, please don't call him edge Master.... some other connotations there 😂
That was some pretty cool stuff.
thanks!
If my hose started leaking propane I'd go to the emergency room right away.!!
Interesting and cool as usual.
Love it! Thats Edge Master! Keepibg staying edgy.
The word sabot is French meaning shoe. Typically a wooden shoe worn by workers in the 1800's. It's part of the word sabotage. In the beginning of the Industrial age, workers would kick their shoes off into the gears of the machinery. It's said they were afraid of losing their jobs to mechanization. Or maybe due to labor disputes.
Longshot is violent, loud, hard kicking pwdr! Try other pwdr's. You will be much happier and surprised.
Rifling makes everything better.
Interesting video as always. My guess is that Ryan is O>G>s brother.
... He was edging his wood???
The edgemaster was scraping by!
Roll crimp we had a mec back a long time and different wads how would groves and o rings even lube for seal. Would i use my arber press or a drill press to use your cool crimp! Just saying.
Seems like these might need a longer sabot to support the fins and something like an x12x gas seal, or maybe use shooters world or vectan powders (European) if available.
From Russia with love.
OGs Danger Show. He retired from being a LEO.He’s still around and doing content. And I believe he is happy as a pig in 💩!!!
was held against my will today by a tow truck driver. parked in front of my driveway to drop off a neighbors truck, unlicensed should be towed away again, anyway, this driver threatens me and shouts repeatedly "this is a public roadway" but i say "you can't block a public residence that isn't involved! this is kidnapping!" called municipal, they yelled at me, called 911 they did nothing. so, i bought a gun today...
Maybe add some flour to the powder charge to increase the volume... IDK...
10 stars for Ryan
ALL HAIL THE EDGE LORD!!!!!!!!
@13:50 I would not believe it if it wasn’t on slow-mo!
Sabo-tage. Thats how you say it. Therefore S-ah-bo (silent t when age absent).
S-eh-bo, while common American ain't right, ya hear. ;)
Ignore the trolls. its not your fault their parental units abandoned them with the possums.
make it as if its an actual APFSDS round from a tank
Jeff, I remember watching you 15 yrs. or so when ya did some good gun stuff.... In just that short time can't believe how California has taking your 2A rights away.... Every-time I fly out to your state it keeps getting worse.... kinda sad.... I also do saltwater fishing out of the whole state and just 2 months ago my rental car was broke-in n wrecked while parked.... Cops just took a report and we were stuck coming off the boat with coolers of fish with no rental SUV.... Don't know how you guys take it.......be well MB..
Those hose can be expensive! 😂
Love the Grabbag Duke Nukem Raised Me
It's probably a dumb question, but here goes. What is a Taofledermaus?
Why didn't you just put a cork spacer and a plastic spacer in-between the fins of the dart and the powder, one to give compression and the other to absorb shock? Plastic first powder side, then cork projectile side. As soon as the shell is shot the cork would cut from the g's, and fill up the gap in the four fins and act just like the toilet paper.
i need a box of these for home defense😂
Them bullets should have passed through straight maybe a little more weight in the back end. See y’all on the next one
I feel like that shape is only good for being dropped out of a flying fortress.
The weight of the bullet may have sent it off a bit plus he was holding the weapon on his left arm tend to shift off side sightly the recoil might have some adjustment to it but then again no one analyze the person firing the rifle
The T in "sabot" is silent
Those wasps didnt like your camera lol
Nothing has improved from the Diablo shape.
This round is still wiggling, its tail is bouncing off the shock cone formed off the round's rounded nose.
P.S everything improves with rifling.
Sometimes it did, sometimes it flew without a wobble. It's a pain in the butt to get these to work correctly, I hope the video makes that point.
I get that it's dart shaped but for some reason it also looks to me like back to back, connected, decreasing in size diablo shapes. Anyone else see that or am I seeing things (wouldn't be the first time)? I mean it could just be smooth right? It's like he made them that way for the diablo stability.
Back in the old days when people were pioneering 44 magnum loads they used to use Cream of Wheat loaded on top of the powder as a filler to take up the extra space. Not sure if that will help any in the future or not though but might be worth a try. Thanks for the video!!!
Cornmeal and oatmeal can also be used as a buffer. I use oatmeal to take up excess chamber volume in Cap and ball pistols.
@@angryroostercreations5194 I feel like oatmeal and cream of wheat would work better than wet toilet paper for long term storage because it wouldn't potentially get the powder moist.
I've been using corn meal for over 20 years, ever since a friend introduced me to that. The benefit of corn meal is the it cleans out some of the BP fowling. I've also used Polenta, another ground corn but courser than corn meal. But I've known a few guys that have used ground walnut shells.
@@angryroostercreations5194Definitely great for taking up space when I load my Pietta 1858 with Titegroup smokeless powder.
(just kidding, _don't_ do that!)
@@Boomchacle You wet the toilet paper for molding purposes, and then let it dry into shape. You don't load while it's still wet.
Thanks to Dmitry for supplying these slugs and thanks to Bryan for shooting. Now that the OG has retired he becomes a guest shooter. Thanks for the video.
OG has retired? Oh damn..
Liked that guy
Sadly less finger waggling and bad dad jokes. Will miss the Clown Cop.
@@dehertzbear9588he's retired from the force not from the tubes as far as I know
Did he really retire, I noticed it's been a while since he was in a video 😢
@@kasonm801 yeah he retired from the force a few months ago, he will still be doing youtube
Is OG still stuck at the airport?
Lol, he should have just walked to where he needed to go.
Hahah, yeah he’s hanging out with Tom Hanks I suppose.
I made it out. 😂
I was a machinist 11 years, injection molding 2 years. A lot of work went into these shells. Also Kudos to Jeff for loading them. Keep trying to make them just right now easy to do everything effects the performance.
thanks!
Mold guys have a good game going. Props to you my friend for acknowledging the crazy amount of work just in the packaging here. Let the chips fly!
Your attention to detail is appreciated in explaining how to load these experimental shotgun loads Jeff. I’ve learned somethings that might have been bad for me or the shotgun by watching this awesome channel. Thanks Jeff.
Ryan is a very welcome addition to the videos. The 2 of you make a great pair. Very entertaining and interesting. I also like to see the loading process since I used to reload shotgun for trap shooting. Keep up the good work.
thanks!!
Yes, he's a real pimmel.
Real nice rounds. Would like to see some more, with set sights and gelatan. Was impressed with how it liked lead.
Oh yeah, it ate the lead for lunch!!!!
Any day you guys put out a video is a good day. Man, Dmitri really put a lot of effort into these! Injection molding sabots, and exceptional looking darts. crazy good work on excellent work on the powder loads and setting up the slugs. You really are a genius when it comes it comes to loading these. I was gonna say "30 grains longshot, its always about 30 grains" quoting you from previous videos :)
The fact that he's made not one but two different molds for the injection molding process really shows how much dedication he has to this project.
13:42 that lead plate didn't even know what hit it. Great shot. The 3 piece sabot seems like an improvement, and maybe a smaller void version would seal better for the gas blow-by too. I ❤️ that this channel gets so much weird slugs to shoot from viewers.
Cream O' wheat works as an excellent filler as well, is actually used as a volume filler on the 577/450 Martini Henry round ( black powder)
577/450 is martini henry
.577 is snider
@sinx6139 that's what I ment. Oops.
Glad you are still making these videos! My day just got better!
thank you!
That's impressive as all heck - both the design of the slug and sabots, and your creative loading......to say nothing of the results!
Always a pleasure, never a chore :)
That has to be definitely one of the best lead plate shots where the fins got stuck. Thank you for another great video
Jeff, there are a couple of things a friend introduced me to when shooting Black Powder with a reduced load that might help if you care to try them. He had a reproduction Colt .44 Walker pistol that takes 60 grains of BP. But if he reduced the loads to light target or to the loads of the 1858 Remington of 30 grains, he had a huge gap between the ball and powder that would effect the ignition. What he came up with, that was cheap and readily available, was to use "corn meal" to fill the space above the powder that helped to compress the powder charge and hold it in place. It also had the benefit of cutting the fowling in the refiling of the barrel. Corn meal could also be mixed with water to form a moldable past that would fill gaps better and drys hard. They would also disintegrate quickly. But if you try that, it might help to put a light coating or oil (Pam Spray) or a light spray wax for furniture if you are molding it to fins like this. Just to insure nothing sticks to them. It shouldn't stick to plastic anyway, but use for insurance on those you only have a small number to test. I've been using that corn meal in BP for over 20 years with no problems.
BP and smokeless powder shooters using big boar cartridge calibers, to hold less than a full powder charge back by the primer to insure ignition, use a poyl-fill or pillow stuffing to fill the gap under the bullet. Especially in necked cartridges. You can get this out of an old pillow or stuffed toy.
Just a couple of cheap ideas that might help you can try. But I was thinking the corn meal would separate better than the toilet paper. It would be more like sand as the sabot petals separated. A piece of Saran Wrap on the bottom of the Sabot the loose meal in place as you stuff the sabot in the shot shell hull. I've used that making BP flat base paper cartridges. It works better than the nitrated paper and is consumed on firing.
Like I said, just some suggestions if you find another creation that is difficult and needs some wadding or protection. That corn meal could also be used to fill a hollow base to give more support.
Good videos and stay safe
Hi I Liked What You Wrote and I'll Say I Never Thought of Such a Simple Idea!
Thanks!
Another great video, Jeff. 👍 Really enjoy Ryan's wit and sense of humor. 👍 That devious Russkiy slug was doing its best to make both of you look bad, but you persevered and won out in the end. Well done! 👍👍
Another great video. Really cool to see that thing go through the lead plate. The way the fins got stuck with super cool. Also, as far as I am concerned, Ryan seems like a really good guy. I'm really happy to see him become part of the channel. All of the shooters that you've ever had are always great Jeff. And I think that Ryan is doing a great job. Long live the Edge Lord!!!😂
thanks
You guys are awesome!
thanks!
The art of proto shooting performed very nicely Jeff and Ryan . Those rounds can drill the heck out of metal .. would like to see the next iteration shot at AR500 . Any economical way of wiring up some sensors on some AR500 to measure the impact energy ? Miss your bad azz OG .
Missed you guys. Happy to see a new video.
now you know ? first thing is to zero your red dot ! then conduct the test. lol
