Scott, the reason for the jams is the ammo, a shot gun is not really meant for auto fire gas operating systems, take the Typhoon 12 for example, brand new out of the box I fired multiple rounds at rapid fire with no stoppages or jams, the ammo I was using travels at a velocity of 1410 feet per second, it is important to use high velocity rounds in an auto loading shotgun, especially during the break in process, using lower velocity rounds will result in stoppages such as you experienced

not only is it likely not made of the strongest parts. but it straight up isn't that secure to the weapon. Here we see why practically every tube extension accessory comes with an extra clip on thing to help secure it to the rest of the gun.
For those who don’t know, the XRail has been around for quite awhile. Not the most practical or reliable magazine extension option, but it’s not meant for hard use. It’s intended for extreme ”gamer gun” builds for hardcore competitive shooters, who are willing to accept something that’s finicky and requires dialing-in with specific ammo as a trade-off for massive capacity. Reloads on a tube-fed shotgun tend to be a major limiting factor for those competitions.
At least it was probably part of the inspiration for weird shotguns like the Tavor TS12, which is at least far better built, though IWI has some QC issues on it.
Got to admit, those shocks on that VW were impressive. Honestly, I'm surprised you and your dad haven't built a full sized trebuchet yet to hurl a small motor vehicle down that open range of yours.
I had an older model Browning once that was very touchy about what brand of shells would feed properly. So, I was going to suggest trying different brands and loads to see if that helped with the jamming problem but I guess it doesn’t really matter now. Every time you have that guy pop up and say “You got jammed”, I can’t help but think about jamming the radar in Spaceballs. Thanks for the chuckles and I can’t wait to see what you destroy next time.
@@samuri Councilman Jamm is such a hilarious character in that show. Total douchebag and cut throat politician but his antics are comedy gold. Especially when they go to his house and he's weirdly super into asian culture lol. Kinda like Gabe from the office actually.

@kg-Whatthehelliseventhat It still performs fantastic. I've ran everything from bird shot, to buckshot and slugs without any performance problems. Still feeds and ejects shells as when new.
I think the reason I keep coming back to Kentucky Ballistics compared to some of the other guntubers out there is that Scott very much has a "Kid In A Candy Store" affectation that is simply infectious. He's not trying to be badass or overly analytical about statistics and whatnot, he's just excited to show off his new toys and maybe teach us a bit as well. Great vid (glad you didn't get another neck scar from that shotgun), can't wait for the next.
I know you have to tuck a shotgun to your shoulder to counter the recoil, buuut it looks like our good friend from Kentucky took that advice to the next level 🤣
Not gonna lie - that might have been the funniest malfunction I've ever seen. I was expecting a "you just got jammed" when suddenly the gun fell apart and shells were just flying everywhere. LOL
I laughed so hard when all those shotgun shells just shot out of the tube 😂. Idk why I found it so funny but I did. It could be that Scott's laughter is just seriously contagious.
I am not an expert in ballistics, nor firearm production, but i have never had a shotgun with a free floating magazine tube. It would be easy to guess that the tube not lining up is what's causing at least a portion of the Jams, Perhaps if they had a stabilizing ring at the front (perhaps a fixed ring with an interior part that spins with the barrel), then it would at least keep the magazine stable. but i don't ultimately know how much better it'd be, as it seems to spin of it's own accord sometimes. perhaps if the tube also locked in until empty, then sprung to the next, but then it'd have the same failings as a regular Drum Magazine. (although, that's pretty much what it's trying to emulate from where im sitting.) Aside from the, likely unintended, ability to store the gun in smaller places than it's overall length, I'm glad to know that we're still making weird guns for the modern era. Thanks for playing with it Kentucky Ballistics.
Benelli makes good shotguns. The X-Rail system was an aftermarket add on so you should be able to find parts for both, but I would put the Benelli back into its original single tube configuration. If it’s repairable that is.
The beetle does indeed put the punt gun to shame. Based on my back of the envelope calculations: an 1800lb Beetle is about 12,600,000 grains. Falling from a height of 30ft it should accelerate to approximately 44 fps, for around 54,160 ftlbs of energy on target. Now you'd have to divide by the area of impact to figure out how much each item received, but it's still devastating.
Not gonna lie, I got a good shiver run down my spine as soon as I saw that XRail come apart mid-barrage. So glad this wasn't Mishap Monday. Thanks, Scott~!!!
I suspect it has to do with how much the thing was flexing around. They should add a thing to hold it to the barrel to add stability and prevent it from jiggling all over the place.
Scott, dude. You're just living the best life. This is what everybody should be able to do. A patch of land, controlled mayhem on the regular, a damn mobile crane. It's beautiful really. Thanks and take care👍.
My first thought was the reload time was going to be a nightmare, but the fact it jammed so much, was so front heavy and, well, broke, kinda makes me question what their quality assurance team was up to.
Im wanting to know what drugs the design team was on....i mean that much weight and recoil on that thin of a support.....kinda obvious what was going to eventually happen.
This must have been a pet project of someone very senior at Bernelli who REALLY wanted to get a high capacity shotgun to market. I'm sure QA was told to shut their collective pie-hole.
My introduction to this channel was the collaboration with the slow-mo guys, and good god my respect for this man only ever seems to increase. From learning about then watching that terrifying explosion, to seeing his dedication to getting good, honest, scientific data about the effects of various calibers and types of shot on the torsos of zombies, to even just the good natured humor and infectious enthusiasm for the content. This is awesome stuff!!
What was wrong with the SRM 1216? How have we devolved from that? I appreciate the attempt at making the magazines rotate automatically but this thing needs a few more months or years of design research. It's a first iteration prototype at best.
Scott: Thanks so much for uploading this. I kept replaying the epic shotgun self disassembly mode that you worked on the Benelli and I have not laughed so hard in years! Just when I thought it was all over, one magazine spewed its guts out! On a serious note, I am just glad it did it without taking you out as collateral damage! Happy Christmas from the UK!
Wonder if the mag can spin constantly feeding the ammo could be better for jams instead of going through each mag one by one, kinda like a gatling gun but kinda in reverse.
Very unfortunate results but I'm glad that you weren't hurt. I really didn't have high hopes for this gun setup but at least you gave it a fair shot. Keep up the great work Scott and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
When I started watching this I was like: "Yep, that's definitely an overcomplicated gizmo that will definitely jam a lot". What can I say? The result broke my expectations in two!
Been a M2 owner for years, I’ve learned the more weight you add to it, the more likely you run into cycling problems. You can maybe do a shotshell card and small light, that’s it.
Yeah the Xrail was known for doing that. Cool idea, just needed some more time to bake in the R&D department. Hilarious to watch it happen mid flow in the video.
I actually almost died laughing when those shells started spewing out of the magazine. Eating/drinking anything while watching your episodes is a bad idea.
Hey man I just wanted to say thanks for posting this even though the gun messed up. A lot of people would just say “Well that’s it, guess this video failed,” and just scrap it but you kept going and made this video awesome anyway. Appreciate it a lot 👍
I’m really impressed with the drop test results. Front window intact rear driver side the same, the mono body really didn’t seem to flex much. Crazy tough bug!
I'd say that the way those tubes bounce around on the free end, likely causes more flex and bend than the thing can take. If it was more secure so it kept better alignment with the barrel, there probably wouldn't be such an issue with jams and pressure on the part that broke. As a non-engineer, I can't imagine how any engineer would think that would work ok.
I knew something weird was gonna happen with the shotgun because it's design didn't look scientific to me. But I am happy Scott is safe after whatever happened to him after the Serbu RN-50 50 BMG Slap round incident. Stay safe Scott. Over the years I have learnt so much about firearms and ammunition only because of you and I wish to learn from you forever. Love from India. ❤
The way it was moving round in the slow mo, before it broke I had a feeling it wasnt too well made. Looked like every shot could be its last then it fell apart and then proceeded to empty itself 😅😅
I love that even when the planned video does not work out Scott originally planned he still manages to make us piss our pants laughin lmao. And also the fact that he still uploads it without declaring it a complete failure. Never change, Scott! God Bless!
I think it's problem was not pushing hard enough to operate the elevator so that could be the extra push it needs, bonus the gas tube would add support to the barrel. Was thinking a manual action would jam less myself, but I feel like they'd work against each other. Maybe the fixed double tubes are a better match there.
I like the idea of a semiautomatic shotgun with that much magazine, but clearly there needs to be some work done to reinforce certain areas to assist in stress relief when being used
I'm pretty sure this is the first time you've managed to hit every target at once! Scott, thank you for all of the entertainment (and sometimes information) that you give us all year! Merry Christmas to you and your family, and Happy New Year!
Love your channel! We just purchased our first gun, my wife and I, and we got a Tokarev TX3, as it fit our budget. Even though it's on the cheaper end of shotguns, it really seems to pull its weight and even stand up to some higher end shotguns. Would love to see your take on these Turkish shotguns rising in the market! That, plus you can put a bayonet on it... on a shotgun. I mean... c'mon! That's freakin' awesome!
Given how easily the bolt was pulled to the rear and How sluggishly it chambered when released from the rear most position, I have a feeling it may have been timed for lighter rounds.
even if that's true, if you're making a semi auto shotgun with what essentially amounts to a drum mag replacement, and you can't handle 00 Buck what's the point?
What we really need is a teardown/maintenance video showing the x-rail design. Definitely looks like an interesting project they put a lot of effort into. Although, not everyone has the forearms of Scott... that's a LOT of weight (2 pounds 4 oz empty, plus the weight from 24 rounds) hanging off the front of the gun.

It's time for Scott to get medieval and build a trebuchet. That would be one heck of a video.

Hey Scott, if you like this concept, you should check out the SRM 1216 shotgun! It's an odd little thing that has a rotating magazine tube!
The automatic disassembly feature was a nice add.
Spaceballs the jam.

That's Councilman Jeremy Jamm from the show Parks and Rec.
@@samuri Councilman Jamm is such a hilarious character in that show. Total douchebag and cut throat politician but his antics are comedy gold. Especially when they go to his house and he's weirdly super into asian culture lol. Kinda like Gabe from the office actually.
was it a Browning A5?
I definitely laughed at every “you just got jammed” 😂 Jeremy jam is such an underrated character

I just purchased the Standard Manufacturing DP12. Its been an absolute blast so far. I've run roughly 300 round through it within a month and it hasn't missed a beat. 14 round capacity. 16 if 2 are chambered.
Nice weapon. Can we get an update??
@kg-Whatthehelliseventhat It still performs fantastic. I've ran everything from bird shot, to buckshot and slugs without any performance problems. Still feeds and ejects shells as when new.
What a great piece of kit, looks like they really put this through rigorous testing before selling it, it just works!
They wanted to test the new Fallout Weapons, Durability and Reliability is on point! Thanks Todd!

Too much forearm strength 😂
That's Kentucky forearm, mister. 😂 Say hello to Mook.
I know you have to tuck a shotgun to your shoulder to counter the recoil, buuut it looks like our good friend from Kentucky took that advice to the next level 🤣
Oh definitely True, but shotguns are not supposed to commit literal suicide
love the vids👍
Holy moly that is one heck of a gun
Not gonna lie - that might have been the funniest malfunction I've ever seen. I was expecting a "you just got jammed" when suddenly the gun fell apart and shells were just flying everywhere. LOL
110% _"My, that escalated quickly!"_ 🤣
the way they shells spewed out after it seemed like it calmed down is hilarious
I laughed so hard when all those shotgun shells just shot out of the tube 😂. Idk why I found it so funny but I did. It could be that Scott's laughter is just seriously contagious.
right there with you....a combo of that and Scott's laughter for sure.
Scott's a total man-child. He's the uncle, brother, or best buddy we all wish we had!
Replace the or with and
It already was, don’t forget he’s from Kentucky.
(although, that's pretty much what it's trying to emulate from where im sitting.)
Aside from the, likely unintended, ability to store the gun in smaller places than it's overall length, I'm glad to know that we're still making weird guns for the modern era.
That's why you weld a giant spike to the bottom so all the force is concentrated onto a small area lol
Nice math brother
This is why the RUclips community is amazing
Now add about 900lbs to that.
yeah, it's almost as devastating as dropping a car on something lol
Not gonna lie, I got a good shiver run down my spine as soon as I saw that XRail come apart mid-barrage. So glad this wasn't Mishap Monday. Thanks, Scott~!!!
It almost seemed like the shotgun was jamming more than the tube system, but considering how I've heard of the X-rail having jamming issues maybe not.
I suspect it has to do with how much the thing was flexing around. They should add a thing to hold it to the barrel to add stability and prevent it from jiggling all over the place.
I think Scott was more saddened about the broken GoPro than he was about the shotgun lol
at least gopro worked well before it was broken.

@@biggusdickus5986 Term of endearment. Lol
Drinking......or the gun was built near the end of shift on a Friday.
The wobble in the barrel after every shot might have been a foreshadowing 😂😬
The Shotgun may disappoint but Scott never does
The amount of new and different firearms you find and display is truly impressive.
What was wrong with the SRM 1216? How have we devolved from that? I appreciate the attempt at making the magazines rotate automatically but this thing needs a few more months or years of design research. It's a first iteration prototype at best.
6:55 I've never seen Kentucky blow such a massive load before. Nice a lot of pent up force in that one.
Bro handled the recoil like it was nothing. Great strength bro
Compared to 4 bore and 700 BMG. 12 gauge probably feels like a message to Scott
All the weight of the shotgun shells will make it not kick as hard
He is a BIG guy though. Next to Eddy Hall you can see that.
That would not have been a good ending to the video 😱
Wonder if the mag can spin constantly feeding the ammo could be better for jams instead of going through each mag one by one, kinda like a gatling gun but kinda in reverse.
Very unfortunate results but I'm glad that you weren't hurt. I really didn't have high hopes for this gun setup but at least you gave it a fair shot. Keep up the great work Scott and Merry Christmas to you and your family.
When I started watching this I was like: "Yep, that's definitely an overcomplicated gizmo that will definitely jam a lot". What can I say? The result broke my expectations in two!
The continuous "you just got jammed!" Had me rolling
Been a M2 owner for years, I’ve learned the more weight you add to it, the more likely you run into cycling problems. You can maybe do a shotshell card and small light, that’s it.
Yeah the Xrail was known for doing that. Cool idea, just needed some more time to bake in the R&D department. Hilarious to watch it happen mid flow in the video.
I was really hoping it would work, it's a wonderful concept but damn! The thing self destructed like it was California compliant, what a shame.
Can't believe Benelli was the first to design a' break' action shotgun with a 24 rd mag
When they make a next model of this, they need to support the front end of that rotating cylinder to the barrel so it doesn’t flex so much
I actually almost died laughing when those shells started spewing out of the magazine.
I think the magazine springs were made light to ease loading but need to be stiffer to get feeding correct!
Seeing how much that thing wobbled in the slowmo it is no wonder it broke
It’s true that as we get older, the toys just get bigger 😂 (referring to the crane). Glad you came away unscathed from that gun malfunction.
I’m really impressed with the drop test results. Front window intact rear driver side the same, the mono body really didn’t seem to flex much. Crazy tough bug!
VW Das Auto! 💪
I am shocked at how well the Beetle held up on the drop.
Glad you're ok however after that break on the shotgun!
Germans may over-engineer a lot, but they make sure it's safe
I'd say that the way those tubes bounce around on the free end, likely causes more flex and bend than the thing can take. If it was more secure so it kept better alignment with the barrel, there probably wouldn't be such an issue with jams and pressure on the part that broke. As a non-engineer, I can't imagine how any engineer would think that would work ok.
Kentucky’s skits are a work of art! I could watch hours of all his characters and enjoy every minute of it.
I think Scott should do a compilation video of just intro skits for Christmas.
The Benelli M2 is a fantastic shotgun. The fiddly-do magazine “x-rail” is the problem.
@@jackjohnson291 Exactly, those rotating cylinders are creating the imbalance.
1:35 best delivered joke I have seen on a gun channel! Bravo 👏🏻
God Bless!
I like how it makes a regular shotgun look like a Doom shotgun
The Ray Mohawk shotgun.
finally scott got his hands on the shotgun used on movies
Wonder if it’d work better with a gas operated shotgun due to the stiffer recoil spring. May make the problem worse
I think it's problem was not pushing hard enough to operate the elevator so that could be the extra push it needs, bonus the gas tube would add support to the barrel.
Was thinking a manual action would jam less myself, but I feel like they'd work against each other. Maybe the fixed double tubes are a better match there.
I like the idea of a semiautomatic shotgun with that much magazine, but clearly there needs to be some work done to reinforce certain areas to assist in stress relief when being used
That fail was hilarious 😂 Seeing the two shots at the car door emphasises how effective a shotgun/ 00 buckshot is for hello goodbye home defense...
I'm surprised how well the little VW handled the drop. I was expecting much more damage.
