- We have another design by Brian to test out. Many viewers have asked us to shoot fishing weights and Brian really came through by using expensive tungsten weights. I discuss all the potential problems we might encounter and how I have to make careful considerations just to load them. It's too easy for ME to screw up someone's hard work with a bad recipe!

Tungsten, ”heavy stone” in swedish, coined by swedish scientist C W Scheele. And, as i wrote in a reply earlier, sabot is french for wooden shoe, clog. Sabotage comes from sabot, workers throwing their clogs into machinery in an effort to prevent machines replacing workers.

fun fact: the vast majority of the power grid is steam powered, so it is _in fact_ a partially steam powered camera.
At my last job we had a steam turbine air compressor that did the same work as about 12 Sullair 400 HP electric compressors. It was a pain to keep it running at times but was SO much more cost effective to run that thing.

@@taofledermaus i worked on a natural gas power plant with two gas turbines and a steam turbine. the two natural gas jet engines produced 300MW and hot exhaust gas. the hot exhaust produced three tiers of steam in the heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) (almost like a muffler) before the stacks. low pressure, intermediate pressure, and high pressure. the low pressure went into the steam turbine, then back to the intermediate pressure rack in the HRSG, then back to the steam generator, back to the high pressure rack, back to the steam generator, then into the vacuum pipe under the steam generator that went into the condensers. power is generated by the difference of pressure. on the high pressure side it was 1800 psi, on the vacuum side it was -30 psi. that's where the power is at. water expands by volume approx 1700 times by volume when boiled. this is why thermal generators are by far the most efficient way to produce power in human history.

he was such a wonderful person and is dearly missed.
@@RichardCranium321every time I donate blood I think of him. Such a humble request. He easily could have asked for money and gotten a cool $20K maybe much more from sympathetic donations. Instead he asked everyone who was able to donate blood, because he wanted to give back for all the transfusions he received. (Obviously if he survived he would have done so himself but I’m sure his debt is paid for hundreds of times over!

That steel backer is genius not only because it stops the core from busting through the wad due to inertia, it also adds some weight to the back of the slug which helps with stability. We even saw that the cork stabilizing tail wasn't necessary. Brian has a winner here!
I'm sure glad that worked. There wasn't even a slight bulge in the disk. I probably could have loaded these hotter. Luckily he sent 10 more similar to this.
Center of pressure back and center of mass front, is flow dynamically stable. So you get that weight part backwards.
Who dares to disparage OG? He's a treasure and his vast musical career can't be understated.
26:19 fun fact, stories tell that "Accuracy and Penetration" was the name of a tour he went on once back in the 90's, mostly playing alt-synth jazzwave. He was the bassist, fingering some sick chords.

Fun fact Sabo is the word for a type of shoe, it is usually a wooden clog , the word sabotage comes from people strikers or Luddite’s throwing their shoes into machines to break them.

Honestly, I think the only thing Jeff worries about is whether he's abiding by RUclips's gun restrictions, but I could be wrong. Plus, Gregg has his own channel, so I think he self moderates naturally at this point. 😁

In WW2, the Germans experimented with a tungsten-cored shell fired out a tapered bore cannon. They used tungsten because the tapered boor delivered such high velocities that even steel cores would shatter.

Your reloads are good so often you've established your credentials. Thanks for sharing knowledge.
They are usually good enough, but not ideal. Normally I'd used 30 grains for a 1oz. load just to keep some consistency between different slugs.
Fishing tackle really is my favorite kind of fantasy shotgun projectile. Imagine tungsten jig head hooks strung together with kevlar thread.
Or with Nickel titanium trace wire.
Being a "math nerd" i love the way you are doing practical applications of physics in all of your videos.

OG is so funny. 😂 The lead plate is one of the best parts. I like how we get book, steel, lead, and ballistic gel tests. It gives a great idea of how each round performs compared in various materials to other channels on YT.

I have been watching this channel for maybe 5-7 years. It has always been entertaining and I love it when a new video shows up in my feed. You guys have always done an excellent job. I don’t think I have ever made a comment, as I have never had a reason to. I suspect that the vast majority of your audience is perfectly content, so you just don’t hear from us. I have no complaints. If you wanted a suggestion I would say that I would prefer to see more direct comparisons with a control slug, which you actually did on this video. Great job guys. 🎉. Ive always thought about what kind of armor you could punch through if you took a piece of 1/2" tungsten carbide rod and loaded it in a sabot.
I always thought that a trimmed down old nailset would make an interesting discarding sabot dart.

Brian sent another set of these with a different tung. weight and I'll probably load those hotter.
@@taofledermausBPI makes a very thick and durable sabot specifically designed for a 50 cal projectile. A 1/2" piece of tungsten rod would fit perfectly in it and I suspect would make one heck of an AP round depending on how spicy it's loaded.

Jeff, Ron Spomer was talking weapons for bear on his RUclips channel. The 12 gauge shotgun and slug combo was mentioned. I dropped TAOFLEDERMAUSE on the lot of them, saying if shotgun and slugs is your thing this is the channel for you.
Knowing what slugs function well in your style barrel or if they don't function properly at all is high value info if trusting it to protect. Also odd targets and always good humor with the crew for the day.

I haven't minded the guest shooters, but it's hard to beat Gregg. I think it's the way you play off of one another. The banter never fails to entertain.
