  • This is the last day of a 10 day bass fishing road trip to wales and Ireland. The weather and the fishing were difficult for most of the trip making filming tough, but after a lot of miles and casts the final days came good and I managed to get the camera out.
    The bass only seemed interested in topwater lures and with large seas, the lure fishing was great fun.
    Hope you enjoy!

    Welcome to our irish Summer, Waterford is just about up there with the best for bass fishing, and you can always find a fish or two what ever the weather.

      I wanted to head to Waterford but the wind and swell seemed to be smashing the coast, a lad in Tralee mention the dingle was pretty sheltered so headed there. Waterford next year for sure!

    You'll get the distance with a Bombarda float.The leader will take anything from a fly to popper lure.
    Surface fishing for bass and seatrout is a doddle. Have a look at the principals of Bombarda floats,well worth your time.

    Eyup Nathan. It's always good to see you getting amongst it. In answer to your response to my last comment I've managed some interesting climbs, caught some fish and seen some amazing things - a Razorbill 'flying' and fishing underwater a few feet away, I've shared a rock with a Cormorant that was happy to sit four metres away from me while I fished. I wrapped the leg of a panicky Gannet that dived on my weedless lure and released it unharmed. Tough cookies Gannets. Three weeks ago I pointed to rocks with an angry swell battering them in high winds and said to my missus - 'You would not want to be just there just now'. Unfortunately a man was there at the time and lost his life to the sea. Be very careful everyone. I have also spotted the increasingly ubiquitous RUclipsr not far away. I caught when he didn't but I had climbed where he had not. He was on bait and I was on lures. Thank you for what is now years of help with techniques, gear and the heads-up with safety matters when climbing and fishing. It all helps a lot. Stay safe and keep posting.❤ I'll sithi after! Dave

    Hee hee . I scrolling past and saw your vid. I live in those mountains the timelapse points at. Its Well known spot. You want to fish off the very tip of it... And to the right on a big low for decent sea trout also, bass will be around there when swell is big enough to break down there. . Theres a rock to the right looking out theyd be hiding past. Schoolies mainly at fermoyle beach
    Move three beaches to three peaks for some decent night fishing.

    I know that area of Kerry well, lovely part of the Country, shame the weather was not nice for you as it is truly stunning when the sun is out and the water clear. The area to the right of where you were fishing from the rocks, up in the actual estuary can be excellent for sea trout and bass at low water fishing into the channel.

    • @SlippyLimpets

      It was stunning even with the bad weather, made the whole atmosphere of the area quite exciting. We were hoping to fish the estuary and did for a while but the wind and muddy water made it tricky. Hopefully we'll be able to fish it when we get back next year.

    Thanks for toughing it out that looked bloody miserable but I've been there done it and one or 2 good fish make the frozen knuckles stiff fingers and wind n rain battered face, I recently found out there is a really good bass mark 20 minutes from where I live but they come around for a few days vanish they often come back but some years you get a couple of days and thats all and this information comes from a no bs fisherman he's hungry for the sport so will brave most weather, anyway b4 years out I'm going to have to do atleast a low to high to low fishing there, I just can't believe fishing within a mile of this spot fishing over 30 years I've not hooked one passing by!! Weird but I've got pictures he sent me and a video of him at the mark 4 bass one session. Anyway great video this is the side of angling where people need to understand its a hobby but not all hobbies are sun shine and rainbows some take true enthusiastic gritt, thx slippery limpets.

      @@SlippyLimpets Had one come up and swallow a lure in chocolate water about a rod length out a week or so ago. Completely engulfed the lure but when i lifted into it (short range,light braid so didn't want to hoy into it too hard) the lure came straight out its mouth.
      Took it another twice when i dropped it back and still didn't get a hook up. Mouth like a bucket,one that will haunt me for a while,especially this year with better ones being few and far between.

    Funny that the fish only wanted the top water. I’ve had it happen a few times and can only put it down to them being so fired up, that nothing else grabs their attention like a splashy top water. 🤷‍♂️

      The weather has been crap this summer, hasn't it! Seems great mid week but seems to turn rubbish when a fishing slot opens up.
      Aye, I think you're right, to me, bass seem to be the only fish with an attitude/personality. They can be lazy and nip at lures then thrash around on the surface. Other times they'll smash topwaters, give an awesome scarp and when you do land them their fins are blue and they seem full of life. I've not experienced that difference with cod, pollack or wrasse. They're Simms Freestone waders with neoprene socks, but I wear old running shoes with the lining cut out and scre in studs. Much lighter and more nimble than wading boots. Must admit, I prefer my old patagonia waders with the same footwear, just they sprang a leak or two after 5 years of heavy use. They fit a fair bit better and have more features. Hope this helps

    Lovely footage in some challenging conditions. Ireland is like a drug, once you have been you will want to keep going back. Regarding the fish disappearing after you caught initially at low tide, do you think the big patch can scare them sometimes? I have noticed on my marks that unless the swell is pounding the 140 would get an early reaction and then the fish just lose interest or disappear. So this year I have bought the 20 and 30g Samson Bomb lures, as it is a silent type lure that casts even better than the Patch, only downside is the minute you stop working it, it starts to sink. All the best for the rest of the year, hope you can replicate your drone footage of the bass on a surface lure, if we ever get any settled weather🤞

      I think I need to go into re-hab, I can't stop thinking about the next trip over there 😂
      It's a good point about the 140, it could well be the noise that they get sick of. I've got a couple of IMA Salt Skimmers without the rattles in them, I'll be sure to give them a go the next time the fish seem to disappear. Yeah, I hope so too, the wind seems to be a constant at the moment so hopefully conditions align and I can get some more strikes with the drone. Thanks and tight lines👍🎣

    Another great video, thank you.
    You appear to be using the heavier 10-40 g and longer 9'6" rod for all your lure fishing this year. What made you change from the lighter set ups you were using before? Do you feel that the Century Graphex is a good all rounder, for Cod, Pollack, Wrasse and Sea Trout?
    Would be good to see you do a rod review :-)

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  Год назад +1

      Thanks Paul, glad you liked it. The change in rods is mainly down to the weather. The average wind speed seems to have increased over the years meaning my beloved light setups struggle, so find my self using rods with greater casting weight range and fish to the conditions. The extra length helps with lighter lures but can be a hindrance on tight rock marks so turn to the Tailwalk Hi-Tide SSD 8.3MH which can cast 15-50g but I still use the usual 12lb braid and same 2500 sized reel. If the weather is good then I'll get the lighter setups out. I'll see if I can get a comparison vid of my rods organised. Hope this helps and tight lines🎣👍

      Bass fishing is great fun, especially top water- similar to dry fly fishing for trout- nothing better than seeing the fish hit the lure. Apparently Uist has a few bass so no reason why harris wouldn't. Surf beaches with estuaries and some rocks will be your best bet, probably fished at first or last light. Hope you get amongst them mate

      That was about 2 year back, I got back to the car put them on the ground,, took a phone call from an angry other half and drove off leaving the 3 rods and reels on the ground. Went back a few hours later and they were gone.🙁

    Nice silvers you crazy f##ers. Question. I have had a lot of success using sandy andy lures for the bass. Have you ever used them. ? I find on my long cast spinning rod they are very accurate in any wind situation and do produce the bass. I generally fish north Cornwall coast.?

    • @SlippyLimpets
      @SlippyLimpets  Год назад

      I have used them a few time, larger 40g from the boat and the small 10g (i think) from the shore for bass and they are great lures. They cast further than the Fiiish Crazy Eel but have a similar catch rate, not to mention a fair bit cheaper.

    I've had other BPM baits ruclips.net/user/postUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!
