I quite recently finished Spider man 2 and loved it but I still hold HFW a bit higher. The Horizon world is a lot more special for me. I adore that game it's personally one of my favorite open world games ever.
horizon Forbidden West was and always my favorite game it's the whole reason why I bought a PS5 I am really hoping in the next game you can go back to the Nora settlement kind of slip between the old map and the new map of HORIZON

HFW is by far the most visually pleasing game I have ever played. Not only because of the graphical details but also because of the color scheme and overall world design. You can have a $10k PC but you can’t play a better-looking game!
totally agree. the details between the different settlements, the different climates for the different regions, the details in people's clothes and faces, not to mention just how detailed all the different machines are. it's all just a masterpiece
Forbidden West is far and above my favourite game of all time, and although I have not played Spiderman 2 yet, I don't think any game will ever top it for me. (except maybe the third installment)
HFW is definitely graphically superior, even without ray-tracing there's so much more details on screen it's not even funny. Sometimes in Spider-Man 2 I had this feeling of looking at really sub-par flat textures with pretty lighting to make them look better. NPCs and characters are definitely more life-like in HFW, while in S-M2 they look kinda cartoonish and sometimes in a very unsettling way. Traversal in S-M2 is top notch, probably my favorite part of the game too, and Guerilla should take a hint or two on how to make flight look faster with less pronounced pop-in. Skill trees are way more interesting in HFW and I really like how they're presented, they're not tied to story progression, can be unlocked pretty fast, and since they are also linked to certain weapons, you can really fine-tune and switch between various play-styles. Whereas in Spider man 2 the progression is clearly blocked and linear : abilities can be unlock easily but better health, more damage, more focus, etc. as well as upgrading your gadgets is clearly locked behind story progression (and hero token), therefore you can't actually decide how you want to upgrade, you're just forced into a path and given the illusion of choice. Combats in HFW on ultra-hard can be lengthy and very challenging if you don't have properly upgraded you gear, and because you need specific machine parts to upgrade your equipment you might sometimes be forced to grind your way through, but all in all the combat is one of the most dynamic I've ever played, and constantly forces you to adapt and change tactics on the fly. In S-M2 boss battles are way too tedious for the most part. Instead of giving you one health bar and changing phases during the combat they give you 3 phases with 3 full health bars, which drags out combats unnecessarily, especially when said battles are interrupted with other game bits like chases, etc.. This is even more redundant when you've already taken out waves after waves of minions while progressing the mission. The first time I played HFW, I was a little disappointed with its story, especially the ending which I felt a little rushed (and lets just not even get into the Regala fiasco, talk about an inconsequential character). But the story has grown on me on my second playthrough since it's clear the plot is only there to set the stage for the third game, and the focus is actually all on Aloy's psychological growth through interpersonal interactions with her companions. S-M2 story is good, IMO not as good as the first one but Insomniac's take on the comic arcs keeps things fresh, surprising and entertaining. That said, besides from Kraven S-M2 characters feel a little flat and one dimensional, while I prefer the more complex characters of HFW with their flaws and psychological struggles, add to that a rich lore and a very well crafted world which gives me much to speculate about, and all my point go without hesitation to HFW.
I 100% agree with all of this. Super well written. There were definitely parts of SM2 that just felt rushed or unfinished. Especially, like you said, in regard to the boss fights. Just unnecessarily repetitive. I even think the parry system they added in was a little weird. Inconsistent with the timing and windows and just not really necessary. That being said, I probably would like to see a parry mechanic added to Horizon 3. I’m sure the Guerilla team would spend the time to get it right ☺️
Marvel's Spider Man 2 graphics are improved upon its predecessors. The added more details and more texture plus the lighting is improved. Not to mention the character models are improved too. It's not flat. Marvel's Spider Man 2 combat is not tedious. It's challenging and rewarding unlike the first 2 games. The combat is improved like the party system being included adds depth to the combat, there is rage mode, symbiote abilities, spider arm abilities and Miles' bio electric abilities. The boss battles are improved because they are challenging unlike the first game. Insomniac done justice to Kraven. Insomniac's take on Kraven is hands down the best version of Kraven we got. Kraven, Venom and Doc Ock are top 3 best Insomniac Spider Man villains. The characters from Marvel's Spider Man 2 is developed well too. Like Peter's and Miles' development are good. If you like Horizon Forbidden West, it's fine but the reason you have provided for Marvel's Spider Man 2 are almost wrong. The story I agree for the 2nd game is good but is it better then the first Spider Man story? Debatable. But still.
I love both for different reasons. But i have to disagree with Spiderman's combat being repetitive. You have two different characters with each their own abilities. You also have gadget which you can use to spice up combat and get some cool combos. Combat in both games is phenomenal IMO.
I would be interested in a comparison between GOWR and HFW. Im slowly going through GOW (not GOWR) and i feel like im already looked into a railroad. Everyone tells me GOWR is great but to me thr jury is still out. I have played GOWR a bit but...
this is a great idea! I'd love to go back and revisit GOWR and do a comparison. It'd be hard for any game to compete against HFW, but GOW is kind of close. I think I liked GOW better than GOWR, but I only played through it once so maybe during a 2nd playthrough it'll stand out more.
My 3 year old daughter always asks me to play Horizon, well the way she puts it" the Dinosaur game, she asks me to scan things just so she can tell me what hurts the monsters and she knows all the names of the different elements. I also own Spider-Man 2, she gets bored watching it. I think that said it all 😂
I agree ..I played spiderman 2k18 and miles morales and got Platinum 🏆 also the horizon zero dawn..now playing the forbidden west I will Platinum that game now...I played them all in PS4...but I telling u honest man..horizon series are absolutely great hands down...💯💯💯
I don't think you can really compare these two games they're too different. One is a RPG and the other is an action adventure game made for fast pace game.
I love both games, of course...but Horizon Forbidden West is a better overall game for me. Richer combat options, great gear and upgrade system, phenomenal story and quests, and higher re-playability. There is more to do and explore in Forbidden West...I platinumed the base game in just under 90 hours for Horizon and under 30 for Spider-Man 2. And let's be honest...Aloy is the best character is all of gaming!! 😀

No offense, but judging off of your gameplay I’m not sure you are actually fully engaging in Spider-Man’s combat system, there is so much more to do, and Spider-Man 2 isn’t really supposed to be hard or have intricately designed enemies, it’s all about combos and gameplay flow which I think it does way better
certainly no offense taken! I love the discussion. And you're not wrong about me not fully engaging with the combat in SP2. I've only played SP2 for about 50 hours or so, and have played HFW for over 700. So there's no doubt I'm much more fluent with the combat system in HFW. Great point about the combo system in general. 100% SP2 does combos much better and the gameplay flow is really smooth

2 characters with pretty much just sane attacks with different animations. It's repetitive crap lol but carry on coping
