- Horizon Forbidden West is special. I've spoken at length about so much of what makes this such a memorable and unique experience, but there's still so much more than sets it apart from the crowd- so much that is best experienced first hand, and as such, is best left unspoiled.
The gist, of course, remains the same- Horizon Forbidden West is an impressive achievement that improves upon its predecessor in almost all the ways that it should have, and brings together all of its strengths in a sweeping, memorable adventure.

I had about 50% completion on HZD for months. I just wasn't that into it, but all the reviews of HFW said you need to play the first one to really get the second. I just finished it abt an hour ago. My God I think its my favorite story ever in a game. Finding out what Project Zero Dawn really was blew my brain into little pieces. Such an intelligent story. So hyped for FW now
I did the same thing the first time I played it as well. Then I saw that HFW was coming out and so I decided to go back to it and I found out how truly amazing the game was

I bought it on PC and didnt play for few months but when i finished it i immediately started the game again on higher difficulty because of amazing story moments.
Ive only played about half of the first game. Just cant get engaged at all. The main character is so boring and one dimensional.

I have never been so excited about a sequel then I am for forbidden west, I just played and beat zero dawn for the first time about a month ago and it is a masterpiece! These other companies need to take notice on this game and what makes a video game great! Which is beautiful scenery, great weapons with great combat, and a great story to sandwich in and all of the sudden you can’t put your controller down! Two things that were in zero dawn that I was hoping they approved on was the traversing up mountains and melee combat which looks like they improved on both so this game should be another classic and great game to play!
Did you finished Frozen Wilds too?
If not I recommend it for the next 4 days!
I remember being extremely excited for Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty when I was a kid. It was palpable.

@Ten O So far having watched several reviews and having played the first and loved it. I would say 9-10/10 is the consensus for the sequel. I think it's fair at this point to have high expectations, and if you enjoyed the first you probably will enjoy the sequel. Almost every review I have watched has touched on the same complaints and issues graphically. So 10/10 reviews doesn't mean perfect but excellent in its delivery.
How do you know it deserves 10/10 if you haven't played it?
@Ten O If you didn't enjoy the first, I am not sure that you will enjoy this. It's okay to have your own game style that you enjoy.
It's still going to be open world and if you don't like those mechanics it's not going to change them, just make improvements on variety and certain design aspects from what I have read/watched.
For me I loved almost everything from the first and am pretty sure I am going to love almost all of the second. (When and if it hits PC) I learned with GTA4 not to trust reviews that say 10/10 and play games and stories I actually wanted to play. Not saying that game isn't a 10/10 just that I didn't like it.
@Ten O The quality of the sidequests was indeed an issue that held the first game back. From what I've seen in reviews, I'm looking forward to the improvements Forbidden West has made in that area.
can't wait for this horizon game to come out been waiting for this time for a long time and it's finally almost here the game really looks amazing can't wait to play it on ps5 it looks like im gonna be putting a lot of hours in this game it's fire i went with the digital edition.
This is one of the best games I’ve ever played. Honestly, I don’t know how you improve on this game. Without a doubt is the prettiest game in video game history. 10/10

This game looks gorgeous. I know this game has lots of quality and amazing gameplay with rich story. With that being said for me personally I never got into the first one. I don’t know what it is. Maybe I’m not into gameplay that focuses on ranger attacks. I was also a in your face melee/sword type of player when it came to action adventure rpg games. Maybe it’s also the machine aspect of the game. Idk. I wish I was more eager to play this because the game just looks beautiful. I guess you just can’t force yourself at times.
This Friday it come out & I can't wait. My favorites are the striders & the tall necks.

Really fun game man, improved upon Horizon Zero Dawn, the graphics are stunning , the open world is gigantic and a joy to explore, it’s my personal showcase game for the PS5’s graphics and my pick for game of the year 👏👏👏👏 Still enjoy exploring the open world after getting the platinum, it’s the type of game you can explore the world for hours 🙌

At least some are giving it the praise it deserves. A lot of the time I see a sequel come out that is bigger and better in every way that the first, but gets around the same score, or worse. I think some of it is unreasonable expectations from reviewers. It seems a sequel needs to not only improve on the first game, but be damn near perfect in every way to get the respect it deserves.
I actually used melee a lot I Hzd, and so happy they worked to improve melee in HFW. Hope those talents are interesting

This game is a beast! I have 27hrs in & only 11.5% completion!!! You get stuck doing so much stuff just trying to complete 1 mission!! …it’s crazy…if your an explorer…this game will have you stuck for months…maybe even a year or 2. I’m just starting to really enjoy it…it’s massive & can feel overwhelming at times. But just keep playing…the light bulb will click on 😄😄😄

Probably. I agreed with the reviewer about a lot of upgrades not being necessary. I maxed out everything in HZD, but didn't really need them (or use them).
Reviews are seeming to be really positive. Makes me even more excited!!!!
I disagree about the melee tree, even though when I first started I didn't think I'd really use it. But it improves things like critical strikes on downed/stunned enemies. And the resonator blasts can be a life saver, especially against tough yet very mobile human enemies

Ok I have been a fan and supporter of IGN since I was a kid in the 90's however this review blows any of theirs out of the water, you did amazing, super detailed, gave us a ton of information without spoiling the game.
Agreed 🔥. As well I don’t feel like there is any criticism on games on IGN. They always are like: 9 out of 10! Even with the worst games. Gaming bolt however actually does talk about the weak parts of a game. And I really appreciate that.

According to this reviewer... The overall consensus from all of the main review sites is that this game doesn't improve on any aspects of the original enough to deserve a higher score. 89 vs. 89.
When even more review scores are posted the number will drop even lower... In the future when we look back at how this series has progressed, it will likely be remembered as a good game - not a great game.

It would have been nice to see a metacritic score that reflected the games improvements, rather than making the game look like nothing has changed since Zero Dawn.

Well I think the day one patch should pretty much will fix all this kinks out considering the day one patch is 8 GB in size!
I want this so bad but am stuck having to wait as I have to send the 5 in for repairs finally.. soon as I get another one this is the first game I’m buying!! Hopefully by then they iron out any bugs and add a lot of QOL changes.
Did they say what this footage was captured on? PS4 maybe. I have this on ps5 and it looks wayyyyy better than what they are showing. I have it set to 4K on RUclips. Just looks blurry.
Have the increased inventory capacity? That defeated me on my first attempt.
There’s a stash feature now that helps solve that. Instead of filling up your inventory, extra items go to your stash now. Basically an item box, from what I understand.
I enjoyed HZD, but something about it just didn't pull me in like other PS exclusives do. But this game looks fucking incredible. I already know I will spend countless hours just exploring those beautiful environments. Definitely taking my sweet time with this one.

Now that its release is days away, I'm surprised by how hyped I am lol. HZD was a very solid game and one of my favorites of the past few years. I can't wait to dive into the Forbidden West.

Gamepass is also the ultimate value in gaming. Yeah there's a lot of misses that you don't need to play, but let's not shrug off how great the service is because fanboyism.

Many reviewers have said I went hard on the arrow upgrades! Well yeah, that's the only real way to do combat in this game, seems like LOTS of people will default to that skill tree
Thts the first thing I will do.. arrows then side quest..I love them
I actually ended up making melee and ranged the main 2 trees that I upgraded first. Melee is busted with alot of the smaller-mid sized machines. Heavy attack will usually knock them down first hit, then the critical strike finishes them off. It was my go too when I got surrounded. Melee is useless against the bigger things of course but for some reason humans were like a middle ground. Ranged and melee didn't both were slow against them.

Might be a good choice to wait actually, because if they release dlc for it then there may be a Director's Cut version they'll release soon that'll bundle the dlc. That's just my two cents though, it could happen since Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima both had those releases.

Never used MELEE? lol sounds like you should vary your play style some. In the first game I HEAVILY relied on melee especially in stealth killing, as well as the traps and bow skills. Gotta upgrade it all!

Thank God there's no multiplayer component. Hopefully, most of the bugs are ironed out. I still expect a day 1 patch of some sort.

I didn't buy Ghosts of Thusima because they forced yellow dots on the hud when it was on "off" SMH. Beauty deserves the spotlight, not a cluttered hud.

That’s gotta be the dumbest reason for not getting Ghost of Tsushima. Your missed out on an incredible game.The HUD has zero interference with the game. As a matter of fact, the HUD is practically non existent. The only way to get a sense of direction is to follow the spirit wind. What “yellow dots” are you talking about?

I really like this game, but I have a major issue with the restrictions on traps. In Zero Dawn, you were allowed to set as many traps as you wanted, as long as you had them in your inventory. Forbidden West unnecessarily restricts the amount of traps you can set at one time, despite there being a whole tree dedicated to the trapper playstyle. Sure, you can unlock skills to increase the amount of traps you can set, but only up to 4. I think this is a terrible decision, especially if you are going to allow people to choose that playstyle. Why restrict traps? It doesn't even make sense why Aloy wouldn't be able to set as many traps as she can carry. I loved setting up an entire perimeter of traps in Zero Dawn and just watching all the machines just get blown away. I also don't like that you set off your own traps too, and that they automatically detonate after a certain amount of time. You also can't take them down without deconstructing them entirely. All the changes to traps are for the worse in my opinion, as someone who enjoys that playstyle. Any other trappers feel my pain?

Yeah, it was in the first game. It's been improved in this game though to include many other jobs you can create, and when you actually create that 'job' it highlights where to find the materials and highlights what you're looking for in a different colour. If you're looking for a rabbit, that rabbit will be purple for instance.

Considering HZD did in the Frozen Wilds I'd imagine so yes of course tha tlargely may well depend on how well it's recieved. Zero Dawn was recieved well on both PS and PC if Forbidden West continues tha ttrend then it likely will get DLC

help me understand this. You say that the melee is a little better but still not great. Then you say that you didn't level the skill tree because you weren't interested in the melee part of the game.
How would you know how good the melee is or isn't if you didn't level the ability?
