Living Overseas TV I booked a "scouting" trip to Cuenca next month, October to see if I would like to live there. What are some good Expat Hangouts where I can meet people, and get know some of the insider tips that Gringos should know? TY for the COL vid!
70-degree year-round temperatures sounds amazing! I never thought about living in Ecuador but after watching this video, it kind of makes me consider it. Housing costs are very affordable.
70 degrees is the average daytime temp. At night it averages about 50. Thus, you don't need heat nor air conditioning! Growing season is year-round in the Andes mountains, so the cost of produce is very low.
I was in charge of sales for Latin America for over 20 years. Ecuador is on the top of my list. Cuenca is where my distributors main office is and I’m seriously considering getting a home there. The only other place I would consider is Antigua guatemala. It’s closer to the usa in terms of flights but there many Europeans living there and the housing costs are very high. I believe Cuenca is the place for overall advantages
Wow I need to get to Ecuador! You had me from the opening shot! Haha! The nature there is beautiful! The cost of living seems very reasonable! That one house for $450 a month! Fantastic! Fully furnished studio for $410....I need to move haha!
I lived there for a year and you can definitely find cheaper rent. I rented a 3/2 for $220 a month unfurnished. I also rented a furnished 3BR/2.5BA for $450 a month. You don't have to pay gringo prices.
It's not as exciting as some of the other places in Ecuador when it comes to a short vacation but it is comfortable and affordable for long stays and a great place to base out of.
Thank you very much. I just checked out your channel and subscribed. I just watched a couple. Great work. I'm looking forward to sitting down and watching most or all of them.

I like that fireplace in the center of the living room! super cheap! How do you find these people to interview? Who's the woman narrating? Man, $8 for water?!? unbelievable!! I'm paying like $200 here in California.
I was in Ecuador for 3 months working on this project so I had the chance to meet many of the expats there. Believe it or not that's the way it is here. Lol. I have been to Cali and I remember paying 18 dollars for ham. That's totally crazy . However, California it's a dreamy place, that's for sure
I still haven't been to South America at all - but you've convinced me that I need to check out Ecuador! Budget aside, it looks like such a beautiful place to visit.

I'd literally never heard of this city so I was super interested to find out more about it! Wow, the courtyard house that the lady described seems really beautiful - not just a simple place but somewhere refurbished and really beautiful, and for so cheap too. :)
@debunker300 it takes 20 days for the body to get used to the altitude.. Just have to take it easy the first few weeks.. After that it's not bad at all. the weather in the highlands where Cuenca is located definitely doesn't need A/C. A fan would be enough if its warm outside The coastal (beach) region, then yes you would need A/C
mocny01 Yeah... but quality of life... Ecuador is still a developing country, but it’s much more developed than Ghana. You can find a place for $50, but what kind of place and where? Does the electricity get cut out all the time? I’d say it just depends on what you’re looking for in the end .
This is what I like about your channel. It is very informative. Great Content and I agree with Ella in Wanderlust, your video is like what I watch on TV networks.
Have never been to Ecuador. Moreover, have never been to South America :-) But I believe there will be an opportunity to visit the continent one day. After all, there is so much to see in the world one can not visit all the places during a lifetime.
I have thought of moving to Ecuador for over a year. The Central Valley appeals to me, but it is at an apparently high altitude. I have a mild case of COPD. Would it be difficult to walk around in an area that high?
Ruth Malony, I think it would be hard for you. With that being said, I know some people that have breathing problems and have adapted to the higher altitude without a problem. You may be able to visit a mountain town near you for a trial to see how your body handles the thinner air. Keep in mind that a couple of weeks at altitude your body will go through a lot of adaptation and it will be easier.
Hi Ruth, you might consider visiting and see how the altitude affects you. If you still want to move and the mountains don't work for you, you might consider the coast. It is dry and does not rain a whole lot.
Question: I heard that Ecuador's monetary system, currency is based on the U.S. dollar. The US economy is on the verge of major collapse and depression. What would such a crisis do to Ecuador?

While Comparing Cuenca Ecuador to Medellin Colombia which is best city to relocate according to your point of view. I had searched a lot both but could not find the exact opinion. Could you please help in this regards?
Very good question. It depends on what you are looking for. Cuenca is at a higher altitude so it is much cooler most of the time. It is also much smaller so it has a small-town feel compared to Medellin. Medellin feels much more like a big city and has a lot more of what a city has to offer both good and bad. My short answer is if you like big cities than Medellin Colombia is a better choice. If you like family-oriented smaller towns, than Cuenca may be better. The best thing to do is to go visit both to see which one is right for you. Next year we will start putting out some videos about Medellin, Colombia.

I've not gotten an answer to this question. Does Cuenca get much sunlight? I don't want S.A.D. No one answers this. It seems like the right place to move to but for the lack of Sunlight. Please respond with how much sunlight per day on average. Thank you!
I don't think it would affect the country directly. The use of the American dollar as official currency what it does is give more steadiness to local economy so we DON'T have to worry about money exchange and crazy overnight inflation.
