Thanks for the review Lon. Too expensive for the performance. I will wait till prices come down or I find a deal. I really do like the small form factor. For now my Alpha will remain in play.
Yes the Alienwere Alpha was a sweet mini PC for $500. Hope dell updates the Alpha with this new CPU! I think they got burned with SteamOS, and the Steam controller.
This is pretty cool for how small it is. Sure you can build something more powerful for less but it will be much bigger and if space is an issue this certainly is a good option for space saving. I like all the ports! That is very nice.
Love your viddys Lon!! I don't comment often, but view most.I think that people would just be better off building their own at this point. I'll wait till prices on such items to drop.Keep up the great work man!!
Lon- Is this a good choice for video editing because of the graphics component? Would you recommend stepping up to the higher processor option? How much RAM? Thanks for your helpful videos
Does the AMD control panel (I know it's customized for Intel) offer Wattman options for overclocking the Vega M GL graphics? Every other review online is for the higher-end model. I can't confirm whether they allowed GPU overclocking for this model. Thanks!
Niiiice, I was looking for more info on this one Lon, thanks! I'm actually trying to decide between the Hades Canyon or a 13" laptop with say 1050ti GPU or something on that level. Since I only have 1080p screens and don't plan on upgrading anytime soon, that'd be enough. But it's been a bit hard to decide between availability, pricing, ports and features. MSI might be getting close to it, but I'm not sure if I'll find a way to get those here... then again, Hades Canyon also won't be easy to import. Anyways, thanks for putting this video up!
Thanks a lot, I live in South America and am looking for a powerful VR ready PC that I can buy when I visit the United States to bring back with me, and this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for!
I bought a Gigabyte Brix barebones PC with a core i7 a few years back. Very nice little box but the Linux support was lacking. The Wifi and bluetooth chipsets were not supported. I installed Windows and used it for a couple years before going back and re-trying Linux Mint and it worked just fine. So that is definitely one problem with Linux, the early support for cutting edge hardware is lacking. I blame the HW manufacturers who only focus on Windows certification and drivers.
If your intent is to use a GPU this is overkill. A traditional i7 NUC configured with RAM and storage can be had for less than the kit price here and it has a Thunderbolt 3 port for eGPU connectivity. No use in paying for a GPU that you don't intend to use!
gotcha!!.. Thanks.. True, but I like the idea of having that option down the line in a years time when prices shatter to cents cuz of some new method to mine bitcoin gets invented that no longer needs GPUS at all. Then AMD owns Nvidia and is benchwarming at Google's HQ. ROFL.. Just thinking out loud
Hello. Can someone please recommend which one of these two will work best for this NUC: - Samsung 960 EVO MZ-V6E1T0BW - Solid state drive - encrypted - 1 TB - internal - M.2 2280 - PCI Express 3.0 x4 (NVMe) - 256-bit AES - Samsung 860 EVO MZ-N6E1T0BW - Solid state drive - encrypted - 1 TB - internal - M.2 2280 - SATA 6Gb/s - buffer: 1 GB - 256-bit AES Feel free to recommend something else as well.
The difference between the 860 evo and 960 evo is the speed to access the ssd. But I found that 860 evo is already good enough for my use on my NUC 8i7HNK, and it is cheaper as well,, lol
There's NUCs with i7 CPUs that have integrated intel graphics with a more plain case also. Would be nice to see the more powerful GPU with a more regular case.
Yeah, New Egg, my money spent there now is pretty much zero now. If i'm going to pay tax i'll just shop Amazon and get it Prime. Not to mention i only pay tax with Amazon when its a an item thats 100% from them. Otherwise i still get Prime and pay no tax. New Egg will be out of business in another year or 2.
Chuwi HiGame is the best, Why? Main advantages: 1.Higame has 8GB DDR4 Memory,Canyon no 2.Higame has 128GB/256GB SSD, Canyon no 3.Higame has Windows 10 OS,Canyon no
Honestly man, I thought your channel was about deals and great stuff that would work under a certain price point, I just built a gaming PC for $680 that is 3x more powerful than this computer that costs $799 with nothing in it.
The main selling point of this is the form factor, there's no way in hell you will ever be able to make a similar PC with that size for $680 let that sync in.
I like the fact that you give full disclosure when you review products I really feel that you care about your viewers
Thanks for the review Lon. Too expensive for the performance. I will wait till prices come down or I find a deal. I really do like the small form factor. For now my Alpha will remain in play.
Agreed.
Yes the Alienwere Alpha was a sweet mini PC for $500. Hope dell updates the Alpha with this new CPU! I think they got burned with SteamOS, and the Steam controller.
not really. its priced just right for playing games at 1440p ultra graphics.
why does it bother me so bad to see the keyboard adapter plugged up to the front? lol

@13:25 turn motion blur and anti-aliasing off

With reference to 7:00 HTPC mentions, would this NUC smoothly run 4K MKV, MP4 Videos with the radeon graphics card?
can u make a new video but talking and showing the ports and cables used inside , cant figure what to buy for expansion
Your thoughts using this as a Plex Server?
Watch the video :)

Hi Lon, any chance you can try installing Fedora Linux? I've heard it might have better default experience with the Kaby Lake-G graphics.
So this doesn't push any audio out through the HDMI?
HI i got the fully installed model of the $799 NUC8i7HNK , im in the uk and hope it will arrive soon thanks Lon
Have you uploaded the review of more powerful version?
Does the HNK variant support VR??
can this edit 4k videos without issues ?
Is there 144hz monitor support?
Can you turn the skull off? For those of us who arent 14 years old :p
Yes :)
You lose about 22 frames per second by turning the skull off.
Through the BIOS
in the Bios
just leave the thing unpluged. problem solved.
Lon, how would this (or the next step up} work as a streaming machine for wirecast? The one we currently have is a beast and noisy. Use in church.
Niiiice, I was looking for more info on this one Lon, thanks!

HI i ordered mine from simply nuc and it gives you the option of the us site or the uk site
Perfect review mr Lon..one thing though i do hope this nuc comes down in price with bundle of 8gb ddr4 and 120gb ssd
Thanks a lot, I live in South America and am looking for a powerful VR ready PC that I can buy when I visit the United States to bring back with me, and this is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for!
Hi Lon!! , have you ever considered review the corsair bulldog 2.0?,
David Mendoza computer says no

Hi Lon the Audio signal of your Video is really low! Can you set
it closer to 0db?
You know you can hyperlink the time stamps in the description if you wanted
The mobile app doesn't support that, works on desktop. I've been asking RUclips to fix.
It makes sense to get a PS4 Pro or Xbox One for gaming for a fraction of the cost than spending $1k+ for something that is less powerful than a PS4.
egpu performance? No one online has come close to reviewing it that comprehensively

Just thinking out loud
Why not get a gaming laptop or gaming desktop? After parts, it'd be over or near $1,000....
well you can slip it in smaller places without lubing up first

Transfer rate with SATA is about 540 Mb/s Vs NvMe about 4.000 Mb/s.
@@VincentVega111 If it is the 960 evo the rate is "only" 3200 MBps. Still a lot more than 860 though
I'd buy NvMe for sure
This is the 65watt system while the more expensive one is indeed 100watts.
As Curly from the Three Stooges would say, Nuc Nuc Nuc.
I seriousy want to buy this but god damn that skull is juvenile AF
U can turn it off so its not visible
Team purple
I would think a alienware alpha would be better if not cheaper
Yes
Juicy little box for sure.
I really hate the "gamer" design all these brands add to their products. What if I just want a high-performance NUC for professional use?
that is where rgb control saves you you can just turn off the lighting and bam no longer gamer style design just another nuc
There's NUCs with i7 CPUs that have integrated intel graphics with a more plain case also. Would be nice to see the more powerful GPU with a more regular case.
i know right, i'm in my 30's now i havent games for almost 10 years !
no time like the present to start again!
dayum was this filmed in 2004?
?
Bummer on the no, or rather hard to get linux running on it :-(
Yeah, New Egg, my money spent there now is pretty much zero now. If i'm going to pay tax i'll just shop Amazon and get it Prime. huhuh Lon you still try to make the disclosure as moron safe as possible!!!
It can run League of Legends at 4k
Good video..BUT way too expensive.
But can it run Crysis?
rotaryfreak3
Nope
I want to hug you

I don't get who this is aimed for. Too weak for the price, both compared with a console and a pc
Sad this is overkill for Plex. :(
axebox depends how many transcodes you need to carry out at the same time.
Ya I'm thinking this could future proof a 4k plex server setup.
Honestly man, I thought your channel was about deals and great stuff that would work under a certain price point, I just built a gaming PC for $680 that is 3x more powerful than this computer that costs $799 with nothing in it.
I want to build that computer. Can you give us the parts list?
Did I not state you can build something for less ? I am not exclusively deals I often review other stuff that interests me
is your 680$ machine as small as this one?
The main selling point of this is the form factor, there's no way in hell you will ever be able to make a similar PC with that size for $680 let that sync in.
