- The driver assistance systems in the new BMW 5 and 6 Series (Gran Turismo) make use of the standard stereo camera - and can also link up with optional radar and ultrasonic sensors, if fitted - to monitor the vehicle’s surroundings. The new, improved version of Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function is operational in a speed range from 0 to 210 km/h (0 - 130 mph) and is capable of braking the vehicle to a standstill.
The maximum length of time for starting off again automatically has been extended to as much as 30 seconds, relieving stress on the driver considerably, particularly when driving in stop-start traffic on motorway-type roads. The system’s sensors now register not only the vehicle immediately ahead, but the one in front of that as well.
The Steering and lane control assistant are also active at speeds between 0 and 210 km/h (0 - 130 mph). It uses road markings and vehicles driving ahead as a means of orientation and works together with the driver to help keep the vehicle in the detected lane. The system’s hands-on-wheel detection is very sensitive and recognises contact even when only a few fingers briefly touch the wheel.
According to IIHS test, BMW did a bad job in the lane keep assist, did you see the news? but this video show the BMW DONE A GOOD JOB! Good video!
Good review/demonstration and decent background music. Thanks for it! Best regards from Kaliningrad.
Jak zawsze świetny film! Pozdrawiam:-)
I need this in my life.
Nice explanation.
👌👌👌
Thanks, this is a really good video. Good demonstration of these assisting systems. Have you tested multiple different car makes self-driving systems, do you have any favourites?
Yes, I have tested almost all of them. In my opinion BMW has one of the best. Mercedes in the new A Class has very good also: ruclips.net/video/_mKGpJzzsmo/видео.html
interesting that it figured out what to do at the 5:32 mark. the question would be what would it have done if there were no cars in front of you to act as a guide.
I even believe a Tesla would crash into the wall thumbs up BMW
I have a Tesla -- 100% doesn't do this. Good job BMW.
So I test drove the BMW today and tried this out. It's terrible. This video is so fake. You need to touch the wheel every 10 seconds. It doesn't handle curves anything other than a mild curve. You're basically crashing and then it decides to tell you it's having a problem. Not good. :( Fake!
stevenrobidas Do you had the steer assist setting to high? Also you need to activate Active Lane Assist. There is also a swedish guy on youtube where this cars handles also good
stevenrobidas Also it needs Driving Assistant Plus, maybe there was something missing?
its a good feature to use on the high way. not on the local roads. you never know what cars are gonna do around u locally
Im looking to get my hands on an 18 M5. What car are you using here?
Thanks
Mine has the ACC cruise control...year 2014 japan spec. Wondering if it would also ahve the auto steering control when cruise control is activated
Very cool. Wonder which is better, this or audi's traffic jam assist.
If the driver is sick and faint, does the system stop the car after the various beeps?
Yes, if the driver fails to respond the car will put the hazard flashers on and slowly roll to a stop.
@@Lemon65373 no it will still ping pong lane to lane and i think stop after few seconds.
@@Lemon65373 ok
@@Lemon65373 i hope in newer ones (2019) will stop it self if driver doesn't react.
is this available on the 2018 or 19 530E here in the US?
I am lookomg to buy a 2020 x3 xdrive30e with all these features. I am so excited for it but that constant nagging to touch the wheel would get old fast. Like... tripple the time or something. Way to short to be useful.
Why big picture no head up display or because camera FPS?
I don't understand your question. If I'm correct: HUD is visible only from the driver position.
OK I understand HUD must look from driver
You have to look at a specific angle… so just the driver and the person behind the driver van see it
Thank you fpr the video. Is it like the pilot assist in the Volvos ? I am planning to go for a 5 series in addition to the XC90. Probably 530e. I presume it is the part of the drivers assistance plus package.
The system semi-automated driving which I showed on this video is similar to Pilot Assist in Volvo cars. But in BMW you can turn lane assist on without ACC and i vice versa.
How is BMW's system compared to Audi's Traffic Jam Assist, Volvo's Pilot Assist and Tesla's Autopilot? Which system is more reliable and how long do they allow you to take your hands off at low and high speeds?
Here you have how it works in Mercedes, Audi and Volvo cars: ruclips.net/video/Hts2M7aR6nM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/H_7gnv2d-r0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/PDzHlW6b_Eg/видео.html In my opinion BMW (5, 6 GT and 7 series) and Mercedes (E and S Class) make this thing very, very good. There is few things where BMW is better (for example you can turn lane assist on without ACC even below 60 km/h) but it is really similar level. Every Audi except new A8 is worse. Volvo doeas it similar to typical Audi (A4, A5, Q5, Q7). How long you can use it? It depends on the situation. Usually it is about 1-2 minutes driving but if the traffic jam is quite heavy it can be even 5 to 7 minutes.
1001cars Thank you very much for the quick reply. Your videos reviewing different LKAS systems have been extremely helpful. No one else is doing this right now.
Is the same system also present in the new X3?
Gian Nicola yes
@@1001cars Actually I've used this on rented bmw 5 series during an euro trip few monthes back. Ive used it for almost 2000 km journey! System can be on for hours if you touch the handle every few seconds
Please help me install this to my car
what if red light is longer then 30 sec? Then you have to brake manually again?
No. The car stays until you press resume button or use the acceleration pedal.
The music is awesome - the first song sounds like an instrumental version of Triumph’s Magic Power - who and where can I purchase the two sound tracks?
1st song: Huma-Huma - Elephants
2nd: Ethan Meixsell - In the shadows
Thanks! I’ll check it out.
Are these systems available in 7 series.
Yes, 5 Series has the same platform as 7 Series
@@1001cars thanks you so much.
@@1001cars to you BMW 's adaptif cruise better than Mercedes's adaptif cruise.
Dont know why,but it looks like 2 separate video sources, from brightness to the actual camera angle.Left driver window view vs windshield view.
Ciao. Congratulazioni per i tuoi video interessanti. Puoi dirmi se lo stesso sistema è presente anche nella nuova X3 e funziona bene come sulle serie 5, 6GT e 7? Grazie!
Yes, the new X3 has the same system and it works exactly the same.
What he can do is extraordinary. In my opinion, these systems are very useful in many driving situations. Thank you😀
does it only work on straight roads?
As you could see on the movie, it also works on corners.
What is the average consumption? For bmw
All results you can find on my youtube channel, just type "bmw fuel" in search box. Some examples:

If you're the lead car, does it detect stop signs or red lights? Or is that up to driver intervention?
Also, kinda wish that it's only give the red alert if it really needed you to take control, if there is weight in the seat, I see np reason to need to touch it once every 40 seconds. I can understand like once every 5-10 minutes, but yo u get the idea lol
Kristen Moon because driver can fall in sleep
DK Danis not referring to fully automated. Its just that I think it should be 5-10 minute checkup ontervals, not 30 sec - 1 min
It's not an fully autonomous autopilot system so yes it should keep requiring driver inrervention. It's just there to assist the driver and added to that fully autonomous autopilot is not legal yet. No offence but your suggestion is very stupid.
so tesla is eating bmw's lunch because tesla has all sorts of driver assist features. but check out any bmw dealer's inventory and you will see less than 5% of in stock cars have the traffic jam assist package. very smart bmw!
Lose that annoying music please.
Trop x good music. It’s too much shitty pop or disco annoying shit in other reviews.
Not better than tesla
So I test drove the BMW today and tried this out. It's terrible. This video is so fake. You need to touch the wheel every 10 seconds. It doesn't handle curves anything other than a mild curve. You're basically crashing and then it decides to tell you it's having a problem. Not good at all. Just posting my own experience.
If my video is "so fake" show me how can I prepare CGI effects which look like real driving. "need to touch the wheel every 10 seconds" it is the proof that you made sth bad. What car did you test?
You're full of shit. Chances are you workig fo another and inferior manufacturer and trying to sabotage BMW sales.
stevenrobidas Well I own G30 530xdrive and it handles curves very good. So don’t talk shit, you most likely didn’t even know how to activate the system properly.
@@cihancanatan7098 i just got one and looking for the vid on how to use it properly... but thanks for letting me know that it works so well.
