BMW 3, 8, X5: Driving Assistant Professional. The best traffic jam assist in a city :: [1001cars]

  • The optional Driving Assistant Professional offers the full complement of assistance systems for supremely comfortable and safe motoring. It is available for: BMW 3 series, 8 series and X5. Underpinning it all is a trifocal camera co-developed with Mobileye, working in conjunction with a front range radar. This complete package makes its systems available in an exceptionally wide range of situations. In addition to all the components of the Driving Assistant and the Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function, it also includes the Steering and lane control assistant (Traffic Jam Assist), which takes its cues from road markings and vehicles driving ahead and works together with the driver to help keep the vehicle in the detected lane. It is therefore able to assist the driver effectively with guiding the car through narrow channels, such as in areas with roadworks. The system’s hands-onwheel detection is very sensitive and recognises contact even when only a few fingers briefly touch the wheel. A dedicated button on the steering wheel’s left-hand spoke ensures the systems are easy to operate. Pushing it once activates both the Active Cruise Control and the Steering and lane control assistant.

Thank you for being the only person on youtube to actually demonstrate the capabilities of Driving Assistant Professional. This looks really great. Do you know if the american version works exactly the same as this?
Could you possibly do a video showing Highway driving? Is this system significantly better than Driving assistant Plus? Does it ever ping-pong between lane markers or does it generally keep itself centered well within it's lane? How does it do on highway curves at higher speeds?
    Thanks!

Scott, as far as I know it should work in the same way. I found similar package on bmwusa page: Driving Assistance Professional with "Extended Traffic Jam Assistant".
You are asking about driving on highways... I put some footage from such situation in this video :) Yes, it keeps in the middle of the lane and it does not have any problems with corners at higher speeds.

The only problem is that if you put it on lets say 150 km/h on the highway it will go theres a curve it will keep going on 150km/h which is a bit dangerous and instead of breaking when the car in front of the car in front of you starts breaking it starts when the car starts to break in front of you and instead of breaking just a little it brakes on quite hard but overall its a pretty useful and a feature that you can trust!

You can go complete hands free below 40 mph on the highway. I don’t think it recognizes traffic light. If the light is red and the car in front t runs the light it will run it too. When you change lane all you have to do is hold the blinker and it will change lane it’s bit scary but cool.

the bmw seller who got the most information, the Bmw X1 2019 does not have the same autonomous driving systems as the BMW 3, 8, X5, at this point better than a Ford Focus 2018/2019 which with automatic transmission already has these systems as standard advanced self-level driving level 2 and very well functioning, better than many competitors, watch the videos on Euro NCAP of the emergency braking of these systems, from the tests is better than many competitors, only behind the Tesla model 3, and ford on the guide autonomous is just as good looking at the same systems that gave excellent results from the videos on Euro NCAP for emergency braking, I personally tried the Ford in autonomous driving, really good, I hope soon in a test and opinion from 1001cars .

@@1001cars o Ładowanie, chodzi mi, że Elektryki odpadają, nie mam dostępu do gniazdka.
Co polecasz do jazdy, która mnie odciąży od podejmowania decyzji? W sumie najważniejsze, by sam hamował i przyspieszał i nie wjechał nikomu w zderzak :p Dziękuję

Generalnie szukaj w BMW, tam asystent jazdy (ten profesjonalny) działa najlepiej, ale to nie jest jazda w pełni autonomiczna, więc podejmować decyzje wciąż będziesz musiał (np. żeby zmienić pas do wyprzedzania itd)

Then buy a Tesla Model 3 with full self driving.

@@starshipdriver8536 Thanks. It looks that way for now. Repair charges for Tesla are the stumbling block. But seems there is no other choice short term.

While driving on highways, how many seconds will it drive without touching the steering wheel? Is it about 20s? Also, does grabbing on to the wheel count as steering input or a nudge is required?

    • @darylbreunissen5056
      @darylbreunissen5056 5 лет назад

Driving on highways you can only keep your hands off the steering wheel for a few seconds (about 10 seconds). Lightly touching the steering wheel on any spot when the icon in the dashboard is yellow is enough te let it the icon turn green again. This is a bit bizarre. Why buy "the ultimate driving machine" if you're not going to actually drive it?!

You don't actually have to use it. It's also semi-autonomous so it won't turn a corner etc. I use this on my 1.5hr journey to work every day and wow it's amazing.

Would love you compare it to Tesla Autopilot esp. now that Model 3 can be purchased for 44500EUR in Germany(that's for base model - 415km of range, 5.6sec to 100kmh, Autopilot included). Not sure what's the price of comparable BMW 3? It says around 54k EUR here in comments: cleantechnica.com/2019/04/13/tesla-model-3-vs-bmw-3-series-in-germany-3x-better-model-3-could-save-owner-e10000-in-4-years/

This video is not very meaningful, because the legally mandatory emergency lane is not taken into account. For this situations BMW DAP still offers no solution. The system is not mature, so the driver STILL has to steer in 90% of all traffic jams.
