Great video! Thank you for posting! Our son just leased a 2023 X6 with the Driving Assistance Pro Package. We're still trying to find a video on the Traffic Jam Assist operation of this package.
Very helpful! Took me a while to figure out how to turn lane-keeping off while using the cruise control function. I'm a cruise control junkie. Use it all the time to maintain speeds on local roads. Looking forward to using the stop and go traffic jam feature. I'm sure it will be a stress-reducer. The distance keeping function is actually 1/2-second intervals, so distance will expand with speed. Why turn lane-keeping off? One of the major arteries I routinely travel on has lousy white stripes on a light grey/white concrete surface. The lane keeping function doesn't do well in that environment, but I do want the cruise control function. I'm good now until I need to use it. I think hitting the Mode button will do it. BTW I was worrying about you playing with the camera while driving until I realize you survived (otherwise this video wouldn't exist LOL).
you're 100% right on the distance keeping function, but since exponential growth over increased speed seems hard to explain in laments terms i just simply say car lengths.
Nice video, exactly what I wanted to see. Very similar to my Tesla which is a really good thing. I like that uneven road warning too. Thanks for the video.
Just imagine a world where car drivers couldn’t change lanes unless they used their indicators? Nah, I’m just being silly! Thanks for another informative video.
Wow excellent explanation of everything. I got this package but didn't really understand how to use it at all until I watched this. Previously, I've only been using the adaptive cruise control function and not using any of the assisted driving features.

Nice video, thanks. A quick one, the pedestrian and car collision avoidance is a full braking in 2022 x4 m40i or only helps braking if driver applies. Which speed range is it most effective?
Good video. Convinced me even more NOT to waste the near $2000 for the package on my new X5. I’m trading my Subaru Outback for partly this reason. When you would like to have it the most (in curves or multiple cars around you), it deactivates. You’re supposed to be alert while driving anyway. Why rely on a system that works intermittently. Cruise control will be enough for me
it's not for everyone for sure. hands off isn't at option at this point, so that can be a no no for most. it's more of a more supervised version of Tesla's FSD, where this does shine over say Tesla's FSD is it's distance keeping for ACC, and IMHO better diver indicators to let you know what the system is doing/seeing. pair that with it being 1800 vs teslas 12,000 for essensially the same system, it becomes a no brainer if you want the ACC and advanced drivers assistance systems. but as stated, it's not for everyone. (btw i'm a tesla model 3 owner with FSD)
Ive had a similar system in my AMG, where during cruise control the car could steer to a point and change lanes on its own, and I've never used it, so I agree with you there. But unfortunately the only way to get emergency stopping assist is with this package, so for my new m5 I had to shell out the $2000 or whatever it is. It sucks that emergency stopping is not a standard option for these vehicles especially when you're paying close to 6 figures or above 100k, but I think its necessary on such an expensive vehicle like your X5 to have. There is been one or two times over the years where the system never got to a point of braking the vehicle but did alert me when I wasn't paying attention. Its very rare but it only takes that one time to get into an accident. So if you want to cut the fat off, don't get the executive package, I've had a version of it in my AMG, and I've almost never used the features, the massaging function is a gimmick, and the massagers block the seat vents so the ventilating seats are barely felt, never ever used the park assist, the AMG didn't have the rear shades, that's the only useful things I'd say in the executive package for parking in the summer is the shades. Oh I can count on one hand how many time rear seat heating was used in my vehicles that had rear seating. Front seat heating is deal breaker for me, but rear seat heating is nice to have but not for that money. Now the traffic jam assistant is something new to me, he didn't go over it in the video, its when under 40mp/h you press that button and the car stops and starts with the traffic jam autonomously and you can have hands OFF steering wheel FULL TIME. Its pretty neat in a stop and go scenario, so might be a bonus.
Amazing video once again! Question for you, I have a ‘20 M340i with Drivers Assistance Pro but noticed I don’t have the lane change assist option in the settings. Will blind spot detection/warning be active also when driving manually?
I have driven many brands with Lane Assist. BMW in the past has been one of the worst, edging to the line and then jerking back to the center vs keeping centered like Kia camera systems. Does this professional package do a better job at keep you DEAD CENTER versus bouncing between the lines? How many seconds does it allow hands off the wheel, I do 8 hour highway drives in Wyoming (Very limited traffic) and would prefer to go hands-free while watching the road ahead at times. Is the centering of lanes much better than the old driving assistance package #2?
significantly better than it used to be. no more pingponging like the first iteration. there is now a hands free on closed highways option but as of right now that's only on the 7 series... it will eventually make it's way to the rest of the line up, but otherwise you only get about 30 seconds of hands off the steering wheel driving.
With lane centering, hands free driving in traffic, with highway assistant that hands free goes up to 85 mph, and if you have the new i5 you also get eye activated lane change… so a little more than adaptive cruise control… not to mention major increases in safety since automated emergency braking is also expanded to highway speeds with the system… but if reductive view is what you desire then no it’s not “just adaptive cruise control”, but cruise control is a part of its many systems yes.
Hi there just wondering if lane keep assist is not detecting lane marks during acc will the car sends warning sound or it will just simply indicate that with graph?
if lane's can't be detected it will give you a visual cue in your display as well as the lights on the steering wheel... ACC will continue being active since that is separate from the lane keeping function.
Dynamic handling is your suspension and brake upgrades, usually performance wheels, m adaptive suspension and where applicable an m rear diff. Driver assist pro is a highway semi self driving that holds lanes, and uses adaptive cruise control. So you can have both, but they work on different aspects of the car.
How does the "Active Blind Spot Detection" that comes on a 2022 X5 45e M Sport Package work? Does it make a noise like Mercedes or no noise like Audi? Thanks!
Active Blind Spot Detection will simply give you an indicator on your side view mirrors... if you have the DAP Package it will add steering intervention for blind spot as well allowing you to have an extra layer of protection that keeps you out of an occupied space. Hope that helps.
You can override the system at any point. The drivers assistance pro lane change is initiated by the driver, car does the rest. It’s not like Tesla’s auto lane change while in full self driving.
basically just distance control while using cruise control. it's for those who don't want the lane keeping assistance but want more than just normal cruise control

Level 3's Drivers Assistant Professional takes level 2 and adds things like safe exit, active cruise control with lane keep, extended frontal collusion and mitigation with full braking at all speeds, side collision avoidance, front cross traffic, pedestrian evasion aid, junction/intersection warning, and extended traffic jam assist...
So that's not accurate, the 2022 M550i comes standard with Active Driving Assistant (or 5AS in your build shewt) that includes blind spot detection, lane departure warning, front collision warning, Cruise control, pedestrian warning with braking, city collision mitigation with braking and rear cross traffic alert. On top of that it also adds Extended Traffic Jam Assistant for limited access highways which provides partially automated steering input on certain roadways up to 40 MPH in suitable driving conditions. as well as an intelligent center dash display that will allow you to see other cars on the road similar to how Tesla has its road view.
Long story short, in terms of the tech added and all the sensors you're getting a lot for the price. the question becomes is that all stuff you want/need.

I am in the same boat.. I personally would never use this feature. I dont travel in traffic very often or really need the assistance. With that being said this was a great and very informative video!

I am in the same boat.. I personally would never use this feature. I dont travel in traffic very often or really need the assistance. With that being said this was a great and very informative video!
Does the car brake for you when you almost crush the car?
it will only if deemed completely necessary...
@@BMWofFW Got it, thank you.
Would be funny if a cop sees this video then gives you a citation for distracted driving lol
bring it on? >.>
Everybody makes videos showing the system on the Highway - which is easy enough for learning by doing. I found but one (German) video that shows what‘s im/possible using it in city traffic. Of course the highway movies are much easier to make…
it's also made for highway assistance, not city streets... you can trick it to think city is highway but it won't function as designed
@@BMWofFW If it‘s not designed for city traffic, too; What does it have the traffic light detection with automatic stopping or the cross traffic warning for?
I have all that on the steering wheel etc. but i dont have the same "road with the cars " showing on my dash i got a map there. The car is 2019 tho
which car? 5 series?
@@BMWofFW nope x5.
@@BMWofFW g05 x40!
You forgot to mention to adjust your seat so that you'll be able to apply slight pressure to the steering wheel with your inner thighs so that you don't have to keep touching the wheel while using auto pilot.
I can’t legally do so haha.
Can it be added in X1 and for how much?
adaptive cruise can be added to an X1 but not the lane keeping assistant, so long story short yes and no, you get part of the functionality but not all of it.
Which one do you have 5AR,5AT or 5AU ?
5AU Drivers Assistance Professional is the one demonstrated here.
Can I have that installed 😢?
Not after the fact unfortunately
I mean, yes it’s technically doable… But would be prohibitively expensive
I Wish it can switch line for me it refuses to change line in my car. And idk if There is minimum speed to allow it or I need to press harder on switch indicators if someone knows let me know bcs it worked 1 every 80 tries and I did it by mistake. And I want to know bcs it help me a lot before X6
it is limited to a lowest speed of 40 mph for the lane change, as for the changing lane you should simply need a hard indication.
This can be turned on and off in the i drive. Didn’t work for me when I first got my car. Found the settings and boom working.

@@BMWofFW haw can I switch auto lane change on it was working but now it isn’t
Excellent video…..
I never have any issue on my F85 with the 5AT. No hands required in any road and in any condition up to 63mph while my 5AU on the G series contantly asking for Hands On in any speed after TJA activated. F85 : ruclips.net/user/shortsDraVn9pa4q4?feature=share G : ruclips.net/user/shorts4zfYEMn07U0
yup... reliability and USA federal standards basically don't allow for hands free driving for longer than 30 second at a time.
@@BMWofFW That's regulation and you are correct. But i have overwritten that since i dont sleep or play games while my hands off like many Tesla driver :)
Can i add this after delivery i have a 2022 m5 ultimate package
i'm not 100% familiar with the ultimate package since we don't sell that in the USDM, but if my general understanding of the overseas packaging system is right then the Ultimate SHOULD have it in as standard equipment.
can you do it with the new X4 20d?
I would love to, but we don't get the X4 20d in the US. :(
not sure if it's worth $1700
Have to pay extra to have features that all basic vehicles have. Another reason why a BMW is not worth it amongst so many other reasons.
Name one basic car that has lane change assistant, hands free below 40mph, and now hands free up to 85mph with eye activated lane change, 4k front facing cameras, augmented reality navigation, individual side vibrations for lane change and nav aid, front cross traffic alert, full emergency breaking up to 85mph, and if you have a medical emergency can pull you off to the side of the road on its own…. Didn’t think so
@@BMWofFWthis was a very helpful video for me. I have just taken delivery of 2024 x3 with driver assist professional. Thank you for decoding the Manuel for me. In your last comment it says hands free up to 85 mph. Does this do hands fee as well now? Thanks.
Dangerous
Can be if people are stupid with it, agree
