Here’s the thing, I don’t need everyone to like Taylor Swift, if she’s not for you then she’s not for you, that’s fine. What I do need is for everyone to respect her and the work she’s put in over the last 17 years. It’s so good to hear that even though you’re not a mega fan you still had fun and were impressed by the show ❤

Absolute facts. She’s basically an athlete at this point. Nowadays only bands in their legacy era are able to do three hour long sets. Bands like GnR. But a 3 1/2 hour set from one woman? Phenomenal.

Yeah I don’t think she has a great voice and it’s always sound average to me , I’m into real vocalists but I like a few songs of hers like “lavender haze” and “cruel summer” when I’m dancing at the club !

@@eusaboston I used to have the same opinion as you. However, I do think that she knows her range very well and she's in full control of her voice. I'd take that over vocalists trying to belt notes out of their range.

I think like you it doesn't seem like my thing. From what I've seen, her tours are outstanding, and I think I've changed my mind ... I would go. My daughter has been to 3 of her concerts and goes with friends ... she doesn't want her dad there, lol. It would be far better than the boy bands I would take my oldest daughter to see!

I've been a Swiftie since the first album in 2006, never considered her country even then...and saw her live on the Speak Now Tour in 2010 at NYC's Madison Square Garden the same week as Judas Priest in NJ at the Meadowlands...I paid $50 for my Taylor ticket outside the venue from someone who had an extra ticket who wanted to pawn it off...who had the better show?? Taylor!! I have not seen any shows of her since cuz it kept getting more & more expensive...and I never shell out more than $100 for any concert, not just Taylor...and that Eras Tour was just ridiculous in price but I know she gives her all, now 3.5 hours, and people are happy...right now I'll settle with seeing the movie on 10/29...but yeah, she's great...

A couple little tidbits for you:
She’s had the same lead guitarist and bassist since 2007. The drummer’s been with her since 2013. Lots of loyalty there.
Check out the bassist (Amos Heller)’s cover of Blackened, it’s fucking wild.
You were right on the money with the John Mayer song, it’s called “Dear John” and is off her third album “Speak Now”.

I'm a former musician (piano and classical chorus singing) and a die hard Swiftie and a thinker, still trying to understand how she comes up with these melodies and lyrics, its like the lyrics float through the music and melody. The fact she can create a catchy tune and next punch you with the most gut-wrenching lyrics that makes you contemplate your all existence haha but also, she's going around publicly serving looks in New York with they're famous and beautiful friends, she has that X factor, also performing 3 hours almost every weekend for months, it's crazy.

52-year-old whose first concerts were Met/Anthrax/Slayer/etc starting in 83. Seen almost all the rock/metal legends over 40 years and Taylor Swift Eras is in my Top 5 of all time. i'm more familiar with her music thanks to my daughter. A few observations. First: there's tons of videos of her changing melodies, lyrics and other vocal choices that debunk any lip-sync charges. Second: the db meter on my iphone hit 122 when she appeared on stage. Third: most chill crowd ever. At almost every show, as you mentioned, the men's bathrooms became co-ed simply due to the ratio. I was at night 2 in Seattle and the one i used at one point had guys my age down to teens, and females from teens to their moms all at the same time. Everybody just respected each other and i've never heard of there being any problems because of the bathroom situations at any of her shows. Taylor Swift fans are a whole new level of fan. Respect that you were able to appreciate the show.

    • @Violet316
      @Violet316 Год назад +11

There was one girl who got thrown out of the concert and banned from that stadium for using the men's bathroom, that was when the Era's tour first started. I thought that was a bit harsh. When they build these big venues they usually put in the same amount of stalls in each bathroom, but the men get additional urinals, which is not fair, also most women usually bring their kids with them.

Hands down best concert experience. The fans were so nice. The show was spectacular. She played the hits for everyone. (I wished she traded a couple songs for something off Debut or more than one off Speak Now.) I made a shadow box of my experience and included my light-up wrist band, which I also kept… clearly. I sat almost exactly where it looks like you did, but in Tampa. I’m 46 and I love her music. I’ve always been more of a The Cure, Cocteau Twins, NIN fan historically. Saw The Cure 3 times. Even stayed at the same hotel as Trent R. This concert still will currently go down as #1 for the feels!

As a metalhead myself, and a musician, I discovered an appreciation for Taylor Swift.
I’m in the UK, lockdowns here were hardcore. When Folklore, then Evermore were released I listened to them, then I listened again, and so on.
Btw I’m that a-hole who is old enough to actually have seen Nirvana live. I was only in my teens and didn’t realise how momentous it would turn out to be.
Again, thank you for this. I’m old enough now to think that good music is good music. Whoever is performing it.

I listen to a ton of hardcore and heavy music, but I also really appreciate and enjoy Taylor Swift because she is a great musician and song writer. It’s just great to hear more people like you being more open minded about all types of music and making a video about it. I hope a few people from your subscriber base will hopefully have a more open mind to more different kinds of music.
There are only two types of music, good music and bad music.

My biggest experience with fandoms is with comic books and sci-fi/fantasy, and boy did that make me nervous to see the Eras film as a non-Swiftie lol (opening Friday no less). I made a few friendship bracelets inspired by the handful of lyrics and memes I remember from ~’06-‘08 as a peace offering (having never heard the lyric that lead to Swifties exchanging what I would have previously called kandi, but when in Rome…). It was a blast! I went back twice more and brought my mom once, who (aged 65+) was the one who declared “we’re Swifties now,” even when I was still too used to the comic-bro gatekeeping to admit it myself 😂. There are dark corners of every fandom, but on the whole, Swifties are way more chill than a lot of more mainstream/less scrutinized fandoms based on what I’ve seen so far!

A lot of similarities in my experience too. Ms Swift was mostly there in the background for me, I knew a handful of songs (I even quite liked a couple, is it possible not like Shake It Off?) until my 13yo became obsessed with her about a year ago. I was strongarmed into paying for the Eras Tour Film on Amazon last winter, and having paid £16 for a 2 day rental (!!!) I decided I had to watch some of it just to get my money's worth, and after entrance, she played Cruel Summer, a song I'd never heard before, and I thought "jesus, that was absolutely superb. I bet these £300 tickets are worth every penny"
So as my eldest got more and more obsessed, I realised that the tour was hitting the UK in June, and by May, I'd told my wife I was going tickets for my eldest and me. I pulled the trigger on some inflated price tickets (I paid £1100 for a pair, right at the top of the Main Stand at Anfield in Liverpool, though Anfield isn't nearly as big as Wembley, so I wasn't going to be as far back as I could have been) - I also had that period of panic between hitting "confirm" and the tickets finally appearing in the Ticketmaster 'wallet'.
I spent the intervening couple of weeks cramming the Eras playlist on Spotify, so I was at least pretty familiar with large parts of the set going into it. I had more than come to the conclusion that I was less into the country stuff from earlier in her career, nor was I that much of a fan of the 2020/21 folk stuff, but that I very much enjoyed the pop tunes and especially liked the stuff off Midnights from 2022 or so.
And the gig? Utterly magnificent. Unforgettable. My son and I were the about the only males in the entire stand, no doubt it was 99.9% female, and 99.9% of the crowd knew every word and belted out the lyrics to every song. A more fun 3 and a half hours, I cannot imagine.
Ever since, my RUclips feed is full of live vids of hers, I can't stop clicking on them. "AntiHero from Munich" or "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together from Stockholm". The only things that I think I missed out on was not knowing all the things you're supposed to shout to her during the songs ("You forgive, you forget, but you never let it GO!" during Bad Blood, for instance) and we missed out on a lot of the light show because in June in the north of England, it doesn't get dark until 10pm, and the photos I took of the last few songs looked stunning compared to the photos from early on.
And Taylor? Incredible. She really has looked at every aspect of what would make the most spectacular show, and made it happen. (I read that she rehearses on a treadmill in order to be able to sing while dancing - maybe a lot of other popstrels do that also, but she's the first I've heard of, so I'm going to credit her with that)
She deserves every drop of adulation and every penny she's earned.
Top 5 songs on the night:
    1. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together
    2. Anti-Hero
    3. Cruel Summer
    4. Shake It Off
    5. Lavender Haze

I have to say, never been to one her shows, but everyone I know who has has said even though tickets are crazy she more than gives the fans their money's worth and it's a real experience. Also clearly spends a ton of money on the production value, which is great. Have to respect it

I got to see Taylor Swift at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin back in October 2016. That was an excellent show. I got to see her again on the Eras Tour (6/24/23 at US Bank Stadium, too). She put on the greatest show I’ve ever seen. I hope to be able to see her again the next time she comes to Minnesota.
He fans are amazing. It made me so happy to see and her all the fans (mostly young ladies), yelling, cheering, and singing her songs. I’m more of a Taylor Swift fan now than I was before the show.

Don't be ashamed, even Steven Wilson is a Taylor fan. The sign of a good musician is when they truly appreciate artists for their art and are not bothered by the biased stereotypes surrounding it. It's okay to genuinely not be into her kind of music but it's important to acknowledge what an incredible musician she is. I hate metal heads who are absolute snobs, who heard like 2 of her songs but crap on her because it's cool to do so in their world.

Congrats on 827k Subscribers! Yess, been waiting for this review! I love Taylor Swift. Check out her Unplugged performance on BBC radio 1 live lounge from a few years ago, it's absolutely stellar. I remember your Taylor might be a better guitarist than you video, loved her tiny desk concert.
I bought that very same t shirt on my birthday haha, but I got an email saying that the release date of the merch to the UK had moved to mid October. So I'm having to wait a little longer for mine. Like you I will be proud to display my different tastes in music by wearing it.

You teaching early Taylor songs is so similar to my experience. I had just started guitar lessons before her debut album came out, and once it did I made him teach me the whole album. And then each album as they came out for a few years😂 And the poor guy hated country hahaha
I went to the Seattle N2 show and she played a debut song during the acoustic set. I was 100% the person crying in our section. I was just taken back to seeing her music videos on CMT and seeing where she is now. I’m so happy to say I’ve grown up to her music, and it was like each album was what I was going through as well. Her concert was 100% one of the best experiences I’ve ever had

Thanks for the review and your perspective. I am definitely a classic rock girl. the Stones are my favorite. I also love Bowie, Elton, Fleetwood Mac, Hole, Nirvana, Black Crows.
But... I genuinely felt like I missed out by not going to this concert (even though I can only recognize 7 songs).
I followed the Grateful Dead for years in the 90s, and I always said people should see a Dead show, at least once in their life, just for the experience. I feel the same way about the Eras Tour. (Although, I admit, it might be too much stimulation, too much screaming for me )

Love this video - love the shirt reveal. I'm goth/industrial musician, heard Taylor in the beginning but became a full Swiftie during Red Era, goth friends definitely shame/don't get it... but nice to hear a metal head's experience.
Went to Denver live show (night 2) and I was crying while singing to our surprise song Back to December, losing my mind
And yes, me and my friend went goth'd out, white contacts, black lipstick, the whole thing - and though we looked out of place we were accepted by all the Swifties and got and traded many bracelets. Love the Taylor Nation!

Good review Mike. And much respect for you to be able to an unbiased, fair breakdown. We all know many people would hate on it JUST cos it's Taylor Swift.
I'm not a particularly big Taylor fan. I liked some of her earlier stuff, and initially thought she'd made an odd choice to move away from her country roots. However, I can respect her as a musician and where she is now from where she came from. Hell, I may even watch the eras tour movie when it eventually comes to physical media, as it surely must. Just to see what the hype is about is nothing else.
However, while you will almost certainly be on your girlfriend's "he did good" list for quite a while, paying what you likely did for tickets is madness. Madness I tell you 😂

When the 1989 album came out, me and my family were living inJapan, my daughter was 12 years old and a die hard swiftie. So, against my will, I was not a fan, we got tickets for the opening night of the 1989 tour on Tokyo Dome. I put the whole album on my MP3, so I could learn the songs just so I could have the best experience with my daughter. It is now one of my favorite albums, and the show was one of the best I ever saw in my life. Taylor Swift is one fantastic performer.

Dude. I'm from the most northern town in the US (Barrow, AK). I flew over 4,200 miles to the Era's Tour in Mexico City. I also bought my tickets from stub hub and the connection in Foro Sol stadium was spotty. I literally had the same problem but I couldn't get my ticket to load. My heart literally fell out of my ass when I realized they weren't messing around even if I showed them my ticket and seat, my bar code just wouldn't cooperate. After getting through the first line of security, there was more and that's where my ticket was having trouble. I had to step away, walking against the crowd of people until I got service, it was embarrassing. Finally after going back and forth about 3 or 4 times I finally got the correct ticket to enter so I took like 10 screenshots of it in 10 different ways.

I think there are things to learn from pop concerts for people that are interested in playing live. They are obviously a lot more spectacular than most metal shows which are fairly basic. Concerts are inherently visual, and you could argue the same goes for music videos. There's nothing wrong with presenting yourself in a more... presentable manner.

Funny, the storm after a huge concert thing happened to me just a few months ago.
The past year I'd gotten massively into KISS (they became my favourite band), and then, to my absolute joy, they announced extra UK dates for the EOTR tour.
So, I got to see them, and the show was so overwhelming and incredible, it was amazing.
Then, we got outside, and it was torrential downpour. The rest of the day had been cloudy, but it suddenly seemed to be pouring monstrously.
It felt like a perfect end to the night.
And I've got to say, KISS were unbelievable, but that TS concert looked insane too. Props to her

Okay… I’m a 62-year-old classic rock/metal fan (and btw a long-time customer of your course, good luck with trying to make me a guitar player) and just the other day was telling a coworker that I wouldn’t recognize a Taylor Swift song for shit, and what is the f-ing deal with these crazy kids these days. Today I thought, oh what the hell, and having watched a couple of those “tiny desk concerts” from NPR (which I otherwise despise, yes I’m a reactionary old bastard), I watched hers. One song in and she has me crying. Then she’s joking about how terrible her life would be if she couldn’t write tragic breakup songs. Totally sweet, obviously awesomely talented, completely genuine. Handles a guitar and a piano as if her mom’s water broke in a music studio during the making of a gospel record. By the time she wraps up with All Too Well, I’m a gibbering, blubbering fool. I’m in the living room, inside my headphones, on my ipad, with my wife about ten feet away listening to Audible on her own headphones, and I’m thinking, sweet holy mother of Jesus, what if my wife looks up and sees what’s going on, she’s going to demand to know what I’m crying about and I’m going to have to say TAYLOR F-F-F-ING SWIFT and then my life as a reasonably self-respecting “man” will be over. !!! Moral of the story, I guess, is, don’t close yourself off. Make some room for surprises. I’m still embarrassed, and maybe tomorrow it will all seem a little silly. But you have to respect a talent (maybe even genius) like that. Most of us, most certainly myself, are in the habit of casually dismissing people who are vastly more accomplished than we are. Perhaps that’s not a healthy habit; perhaps that’s a bit shabby.
