I went in with low expectations at first because it just looked like re-skinned Persona. Then everyone was hyping it up, and I expected more. I feel like most people who did these insanely high reviews didn’t actually finish the game or get to said twist. It feels as if Atlus originally wanted to make something truly based in Fantasy, saw the number P5 pulled and then reversed course to make it as close to Persona as possible in terms of character arcs, and SMT for gameplay mechanics. The additions of instant enemy defeats (which has been around for literal decades, just like the battle UI being button based) are a welcome addition to the formula and keeps dungeons form feeling as drug out as P5. It has some great ideas, but no room to expand on them or use them to escape the shadow of Atlus’ other games.
After watching your video and seeing Yoko Taro gave it some praise and I went into it thinking the story is going to be somewhat decent. Having played mid-way into the game I can say that I felt absolutely nothing for its story, characters or world. The plot & subplot pacing moves so fast that it breaks my immersion on it being believable. Not to mention that its content is nothing that I haven't encounter in other pieces of fiction which I could forgive if it wasn't delivered so poorly. I bought this game thinking it would engage me with its writing because your channel mainly covers games that have interesting stories, lore or philosophy but overall I came out of it extremely disappointed that I had wasted my time and money.

If you know Kuro no Kiseki Max, I believe that what inspired Metaphor for the mix combat system, though in this game the function of that feature is to skip the low level enemies in Kuro no Kiseki it's somewhat integral to the combat itself :)

First and only video about this game that really sold me. I'm just cautious about the 170+ hours to finish it, since I have little time to play during the week.
This is my first JRPG (because of this video). 20hr in. And I love it so much! Also finding it super frustrating and challenging, even playing on Normal.
Thanks for the indepth look and showcasing of the game. As a long time atlus fan, this setting and story does not grip me at all and this video while very well made has comforted me in this decision. That being said I wish those who are attracted to it to enjoy their time.
I am really happy this game gets more attention by yt creators like you. I played the demo then pre-ordered it bc i realized that this game is special and might be Atlus greatest achievment to date.
I really recommend you to try out SMT: Strange Journey. That game has music where a male choir and wind Instruments belt out heroic and epic tunes when you as an american traverse through schwartzwelt. The characters and their motives are interesting, the maps are fantastic, and the gameplay can be brutal at times. I would recommend playing the original version over redux since the art style is darker and the character design are based on Kaneko’s art.
Did you know that the canon name for the protagonist in Russian version is САША! Which means he is *НАШ* 🇷🇺🐻 СЛАВА БОГУ 🙏 ХРАНИ ТЕБЯ ГОСПОДЬ 🔥 GOIDA, MAX, GOI-DA
I’ve never been able to get into Persona and when I had time to I felt left behind. Now? I can enjoy something from the jump and one can hope it’ll live on the way Persona has with a loving fan and sequels that build upon its most charming aspects. Thank you for this review, I’ll be purchasing because of it.
My only gripe about atlus games is lack of full voice over and graphical side of game. Some models look like 10+ years dated, its sad but gacha games shown that even this art style can be done in modern standards.
So this is SMT6/P6, with a little bit of final fantasy mixed in. Gameplay is peak, characters lacks some essence, music is really nice but it’s not personal level, art is breathtaking.
The game is very interesting, and yes, can't wait to see what atlus created this time. Also I'm curious about the figure similar to the Vitruvian man and other symbols I already recognized but I'm not sure how they will play out on the story of the game.
2:07 Eucronia? Like, Ukraine? 2:19 that's literally a JoJo plot. Holly's stand manifested as a debilitating affliction of thorns. 2:55 it's hilarious how these traitorous characters in medieval anime/manga/inspired by both stories always look like this sleazy sort of uncle with strangely curly hair. DOTA Dragon's Blood has a guy like that. 4:02 the king has a posthumous stand ability. 9:40 I'm glad you'll make at least one other video on this game because I really enjoyed this one. I love Atlus, but SMT and Persona have such deep threads into all that's good and meaningful, it's overwhelming. This game is a perfect opportunity to just enjoy Atlus separate from their long and great modern history which mirrors that of Japan.
I am already in love with the game and I’m barely past the prologue. I can’t wait for your future videos on it because the messaging is on point so far, it’s made me tear up multiple times
yeah but you still gotta engage in a whole turn based sequence before pressing the right trigger to end it. takes a bit too long but it’s still useful.
Dude, there's no need to create a conspiracy. I played FF7 Rebirth but just didn't feel like doing a video on it because this channel doesn't cover all games. It's my personal channel where I cover what I want, when I want... and I just didn't feel like covering it. With that said, if FF7 Rebirth were to win a bunch of game of the year awards, I wouldn't complain. It is a technical masterpiece. I just personally prefer Metaphor.
I find it funny how reviewers can say it's so similar to Persona, and say it's so far and different from Persona and both be right As a longtime Persona fan that's played literally all of it (n replayed the 'finished' editions), this feels like a complete breath of fresh air that surprises n subverts in rly fun ways N holy hell, it feels like Fullmetal Alchemist sometimes, esp when shit just gets super dark like that 2nd major city.... damn, that made me have to take a break after
I really don't get JRPGS and their storytelling. So they have classes like every other game but just give them some pseudo-spiritual term and people are like: "Whoaaaah archetypes, shit is so deep, bro...."
I think this game is highly under-advertised. I only found it by accident and I never saw a single Add or Trailer. That's really a shame because it looks very interesting.
I apologized in advance if I may sound rude, but are you perhaps not a JRPG player? Because for us it has been in discussion for years, back when it's codenamed "Project Fantasy", and since they announced it (I think in last year's Game Awards), it's already been one of (if not) the most anticipated JRPG.
@@plipplop728 To be honest I'm not very aktiv in forums like Reddit etc. so I'm always a little late to current news. But it seems that I managed to accidentally avoid all the discussion about the game :-)
If this game was fairly priced at 59 dollars it probably would have been a day one purchase. 70 dollars is too much imo. BG3 and Black Myth Wukong were both priced at 59. No reason why games should be any higher
I was about to start this day 1, but trails through daybreak hooked me hella hard. Wonder which is gonna come out on top 🤔 regardless, AMAZING year for us RPG lovers 🔥🔥🔥
apparently they didnt forget about persona 1-2, they took the "persona leveling system" straight out of those two games. If you guys didn't know, the player and the persona in the two games are split distinctively. The player levels up for stat points and hp/mp, while the persona levels up individually for new skills.

This is why Elizabeth is having a hard time finding Makoto, he is having an adventure in another world e
I am really happy this game gets more attention by yt creators like you. I played the demo then pre-ordered it bc i realized that this game is special and might be Atlus greatest achievment to date.
Dude must not have played FF7 rebirth
I don’t think I’ve played a JRPG since Dark Cloud 2 on PS2. I’m absolutely loving this game.
Good to hear that there's some depth to the storytelling, from what I could gather from previews it seemed everything was just "racism bad".
Yeah! SMT6 came early this time.
If anything i feel this is more Persona than SMT.
Im so glad they finnaly made some new enemy designs instead of reusing SMT's.
@@LegendConsole If anything, it feels more like Devil Summoner and Digital Devil Saga than Persona
@@stalkelerThe game mechanics are very Persona 345.
all of you dont seem to know that this game was made from the same devs as persnoa.
@@xxJing the battle system is waaaay more reminiscent of SMT
Did you know that the canon name for the protagonist in Russian version is САША! Which means he is *НАШ* 🇷🇺🐻 СЛАВА БОГУ 🙏 ХРАНИ ТЕБЯ ГОСПОДЬ 🔥 GOIDA, MAX, GOI-DA
I love the references to Thomas Moore and Utopia
After playing a little bit of octopath traveler 2 this is such a breath of fresh air. Those nonstop random encounters really started to get annoying
Trails Trough Daybreak has this combat system too
I’ve never been able to get into Persona and when I had time to I felt left behind.
Becoming an upcoming fantasy mayor never felt so epic
looking forward to the vids on this game, hope you make them longer than 12-18min tho
I'll be looking forward to playing this after I finish the Silent Hill 2 remake
All sounds good, except i dont like goody two shoes lil baby boi winning it all just because he is the "good" guy.
Serious questions related to P5
Does it have the calendar mechanic?
Does it have the friendship & dating simulator?
Is it a Pokémon collector?
So this is SMT6/P6, with a little bit of final fantasy mixed in. Gameplay is peak, characters lacks some essence, music is really nice but it’s not personal level, art is breathtaking.
Artstyle for UI is directly lifted from Persona 5, and colors are awfully bland, let's be honest.
Good to know its good. Not giving em a broken dime till it has denuvo tho.
not even once.
The game is very interesting, and yes, can't wait to see what atlus created this time. Also I'm curious about the figure similar to the Vitruvian man and other symbols I already recognized but I'm not sure how they will play out on the story of the game.
Im rooting for the bad guy.
The quick underlevel enemies battle is also in lad infinite weatlth
yeah but you still gotta engage in a whole turn based sequence before pressing the right trigger to end it. takes a bit too long but it’s still useful.
its in trials through daybreak
It’s a Persona 5 reskin…What are you talking about ?
Saying Metaphor is a Persona 5 reskin is like saying Elden Ring is a Dark Souls reskin.
I’m noticing a lot of the great review scores for Metaphor are by reviewers who didn’t bother doing a Rebirth review lol. GOTY fraud alert
Rebirth is garbage
Game is really good. Should keep us busy for a while until persona 6
my god if this is a good game i will never play a good game again by the looks of things...
50 hours in. One of the greatest rpg stories ive ever played.
legally distinct Griffith

>"BEST GAME I'VE PLAYED IN YEARS!"
It only the "best game" because the check cleared .
bro it’s best for a reason
except its actually really good.
Being able to skip long battles against low level enemies should be a new standard for rpgs 😮
I find it funny how reviewers can say it's so similar to Persona, and say it's so far and different from Persona and both be right
As a longtime Persona fan that's played literally all of it (n replayed the 'finished' editions), this feels like a complete breath of fresh air that surprises n subverts in rly fun ways
N holy hell, it feels like Fullmetal Alchemist sometimes, esp when shit just gets super dark like that 2nd major city.... damn, that made me have to take a break after
I don't understand why bypassing lower-level enemy battles still isn't standard practice.
I've been wondering this ever since Earthbound.
I really don't get JRPGS and their storytelling. So they have classes like every other game but just give them some pseudo-spiritual term and people are like: "Whoaaaah archetypes, shit is so deep, bro...."
It's not just randomly named. Persona and Archetypes are taken from Carl Jung's work and is used pretty accurately to Jungian literature.
All atlus games are expensive... Even on sale....
@@ciuffoarancione8929 iv noticed
Are you really complaining about 11 dollars? Lol, just skip pizza one time and you got it covered
