I have a make up tip that I have started doing but don't hear about it anywhere. I came up with this tip by myself. I'm 39 and I don't have many deep wrinkles yet but, lines are starting. When my face is relaxed you cannot see the lines in my forehead until I crinkle it or make certain facial expressions. The tip is to wait putting foundation on your forehead until very last. I noticed that when I do my eyebrows and eye makeup, I crinkle my forehead. That just makes the foundation dry down to make those lines look deeper. I've noticed a big difference since I started doing this. Your face should be relaxed when your foundation is drying and settling.
Yes it’s a fantastic method, but I have seen it done many times by other makeup artists. Keeps everything looking more clean and eliminates more touch ups. But for those that don’t know this, it’s a great trick to know.
Girl, ever since the last time you talked about applying loose powder with my damp sponge I have been doing it. And everyday someone new tells me “your makeup looks so good. It wasn’t bad before but now it’s just better.” THANK YOU for sharing with us.
Good to know. I should try that! I have been using a powder brush for as long as I can remember. I spray setting spray and then press it in with a wet beauty blender.
You're right about mascara wands. Been using certain clean wands to separate my lashes also using them with mascaras whose wands I don't like. As an older gal, I use primer around my lips to "dam" in the lipstick. Not on my lips, but in the fine lines on top of and below my lip line. I just pat it into the lines and put a light dab of powder of it. It's the best solution I've found for lipstick spread.
I recently learned a great tip when it comes to doing your eyebrows. Powder the brow area before applying your eyebrow makeup, and it will adhere to your skin much better, giving you a more consistent, even application. Also, I've seen a few other RUclipsrs demonstrate the technique you used for creating a wing. They called it a "reverse cat eye."
Thank you for making videos on stuff we forget about, cheap stuff, old but gold things and not always just pushing new products. Your videos really help me as I’m on a low-buy as my new year’s goal this year and practicing less consumerism! ❤
For longer lasting makeup: use oil-free moisturizer because oil breaks down makeup (that's why we use oil to clean it!). Another tip is using a cotton bud to wipe out excess moisture on the lashes before applying mascara so it doesn't weight the lashes down + prevents smudging.
@@IceechibiThis is so freaking neat. Wow. Never thought of actual eyeshadow primer. Any primers you recommend? & does it matter more if the mascara is waterproof or not? Last question, I promise..Lol. sorry! How do you apply the primer? Thanks for the cool tip!
Nothing ruins your day or week, than catching your reflection while looking down. As a 58 yr old woman, it totally sucks. I invested in some fancii makeup mirrors and they’ve changed my entire approach to makeup. (Now that I can actually see my face and all angles!! Who knew?
I always start my eyeliner on the lower lash line. It works best for my hooded eyes! And I’ve been saying for years how most mascaras are the same (aside from some being more dry or more wet or in-between), it’s the wand that makes the difference - thin for length, big for volume, separated fibers for separation, etc. It’s why I just never feel the need to pay for expensive mascaras. Great tips as always! ❤
As far as oil based, water based, silicone based, it’s also best to have your primer match - use oil based primer with oil based foundation, water based with water based, silicone based with silicone based. Of course, some different ones can go together but some you wouldn’t really ever want to mix together. If you do use different ones together, it’s best to make sure to give the primer time to settle beforehand and know that the makeup might not last as long as it would if you used ones that go together. Hope that made sense 😂
For instance I just started using Chantecaille foundation, how do I figure out if it's water, oil or silicone based? Same with all foundations and primers? Even moisturizers?
I should have watched the whole video! lol If there's any other ways of telling water/silicone/oil products apart, let me know! The more you know, right? 🌠
I needed to see this. I could not figure out why my primer and foundation just looked awful together. Both have excellent reviews and here I am looking all funky and wondering how this happened!
I’m actually allergic to SLS. I had to eliminate all products that had it. For years the dermatologist told me I had folliculitis. None of the meds could get rid of it so I started researching. Finally after a lot of trial and error I figured out what it was. I always enjoy all your videos and have gotten many good tips and techniques from you. Thank you and keep the info coming please!!
The most versatile lipstick is a standard creamy lipstick. It’s very easy to use as a cream blush . For a sheer color apply lip balm and using your finger lightly apply lipstick over it. For a colored lip gloss appearance apply lipstick and top with clear lipgloss. Finally for matte long wearing; apply lipstick and blot. Apply second layer and blot again . Finish by using a single layer of tissue press against lips and lightly apply translucent powder over the tissue to set.
If you have textured skin and a problem with highlighter looking terrible; use the damp real techniques miracle powder sponge in a stippling motion. It smooths even glittery highlighters. This also works for blush. If you prefer a brush, use a dense small dome brush in a stippling motion. To intensify highlighter while smoothing; spritz the brush with setting spray after dipping into the highlighter.
Love the heart decor. One tip for making lip products last longer. After applying lip liner powder with tiny bit of powder then apply lipstick. You can also add a little powder on top of lipstick. Let set for a few minutes then add gloss. You need to play around with it to find your happy place. But this makes my lips stay fresh looking for hours.
A new "Zabrena" video pops up in my notifications, and I have to press immediately. Your gentle and lovely spirit always brings a little sun to my day. I always recommend your channel to people who are looking for a great beauty guru who is never in drama. Wishing you and amazing and blessed day.
A little tip I like that idk if others do or know about but works for me is, when applying mascara, I've always let my eyes do the work/applying. What I mean by this, is I usually don't move my hand to apply it, I'll blink against the wand and for some reason it just looks so much better like this, and lengthens them like crazy and you also don't get that clumpy look. Try it, trust me. Oh, also 1 more thing I recently tried. Apply your first coat to the TIPS only, 2nd coat you can either do mid lash or the root, depending how many coats you want, like if you wanted a third make that the root.
From what I've read, the purpose of holding the brush at the end is actually the opposite: it decreases your control, which allows for a lighter, more diffuse application. If I were you, I wouldn't change anything about the way I apply shadow, yours always looks impeccable!
I allways put blush under my eyebrows. That will give you a very fresh not tired look and to avoid showing wrinkles of my eyes i prefer matt eyeshadows.
I borrowed my husband's RUclips so I could send a tip. Before the "brow craze" started, like late 80's I'm talking. I used to buy clear mascara and add my favorite brown eye shadow to it. I created my own brow gel. I used to get so many compliments on my brows, which I kinda thought was weird, until I realized that no one really focused on their brow game! Mine was out of necessity! They are blonde/invisible! I was still doing this up until a few years ago, when a girl told me that my eyebrows were "on fleek!" 😂 If I didn't buy into the brow products that I have now, I would still use it. In fact, I really, truly don't even know what made me decide that I needed everything I have now! 🤷🏼♀️ Love your videos Zabrena!!! -Colleen 🙂
A lil tip ifyou dont have any fancy spray primers use sunscreen instead. Its gonna keep you makeup last even longer if its a sticky formula kindof sunscreen
Beautiful background and great tips. 1 I use is that when I curl my lashes I pull up on the other area above my lid to lift the lash into my curler better. Makes for a better crimp and wispier outer corner. Also, I have a fold on the outer area of my hooded eyes so I can’t pull off big wings but a little bit of darker powder up to the folds crease starting under my bottom lash line & upwards, helps create a small one that makes my eyes look more upward on the ends. Doing that before applying my shadow helps with the guideline of knowing where to stop shadow placement.
"Free" mascara primer hack (aka get xtra length/vol) THAT WORKS: apply brow gel or clear mascara to lashes & powder w/ face powder using a synthetic small fluffy eye brush. (You'll see it build on tips.) Apply mascara per usual. Finish using a spoolie &/or lash comb for more realistic tips & separation.* Try one eye w/ just mascara & one eye like this & after just 1 mascara coat tell me u don't see a diff! Couldn't get my hands on the primer I wanted and came up w/ this ages ago! *Alternatively u can just powder in-between mascara coats if u lack clear gel but for me, while it can add some volume it doesn't add the same length as the 1st method.
That Monsieur Big mascara has the best wand and formula. I have never used a blacker mascara - even my mascara shades like 'Blackest Black' & 'Carbon Black' aren't as black as the Monsieur Big... that one's always been my fave for that reason. Thanks for another awesome video!!
My go to for those of us that fell foul of the over plucked eyebrow phase and are now left with sparse brows, is castor oil. I apply mine every night, to my lashes too. It will take a few months of patience, but well worth it.
I love your videos! I’m always looking for a good drugstore dupe or an honest review of a product and I know I’ll find it all here. My favorite makeup tip is to warm up my eyelash curler with my hair dryer. I get more curl that lasts all day. I’ve been doing this since the 80s!
I've used some of these tips since I was a teen & I know I'm not the only one. Whenever I see the younger generation freaking with amazement in the comments of a make-up tips/hacks video, I can't help but wonder why that is. I really think it's got something to do with instant answers and information overload suppressing their imagination.. we didn't have social media when I was a kid so we were forced to figure it out ourselves.
Awesome video filled with small easy hacks that make a HUGE difference! Sorry but must admit that I’m cheering with self confidence and pride at the moment. Although I’m probably the opposite of a makeup artist, the tip or hack you shared at 5:00 is one that I have been leaving comments about forever as I came up with it all by myself! Please save your favourite mascara wands AND this also works for any brow brushes as well. ❤ from Shannon in Canada 🇨🇦
I am extrehemely oily and I use a powder foundation over my sunscreen all year round. In winter I change to a more oil based/ hydrating sunscreen and in summer I use a matte sunscreen plus a heavy duty oil control primer. I believe we can change the performance of any foundation based on how we prep the skin. Loved your eyeliner technique. Will defo try out next.
As an oily skin girl I press my powder into my skin right after my primer and before my foundation and it helps my makeup last much longer!!! Edit- I only use a small amount just to absorb any excess oil. I still use setting powder
There are 3 types... Water (glycerin), silicone and oil. Water and silicone for oily. Silicone for either or combo. Oil based for dry or mature. Also match your primer to your foundation... This is why most people don't like primers or think the foundation isn't good. For example: if you are using a silicone based primer (porefessional I believe is a silicone based primer) under a water (glycerin) based foundation then there is going to be separation. And vise/versa.
I have never bought a brow kit, ever. I add a little shadow to each brow with a small brush (I have naturally thick brows but the color is light), then spritz my fingertip with hair spray and swipe lightly on each brow, then go over with a toothbrush for shaping and let dry. Has worked beautifully since the 90s :)
One thing about the pilling of your primer/foundation, it could also be a conflict between your skincare and the primer. Especially if you are using a silicone based primer. The priming spray will still help because it puts a layer between the skin and the primer. However it is adding more expense when you could just do a little googling and find a different primer as well
I love the tip for season-specific foundation. I moved from a dry climate to a very humid climate and have always struggled to get a smooth application. I had given up on setting powder as well so I will try the damp sponge next. Thanks Zabrena!
Your background is so cute! 😍 And your curly hair is so pretty! I would personally love to see a video of your curly hair routine, what products you use, etc. as well as how you refresh it in the following days after you wash it 😊
To kinda add to your tip about oily based and water based products, I found if you're using water based makeup it's better to stay with water based skin care. If you use oil based makeup I would stick with oil based skin care and primers. Mixing the products can make things look clumpy and extra thick. I learned this working as an esthetician in Ulta about 5 years ago. I had a much better application doing that approach.
I have recently been trying some different techniques with trying to make my makeup last longer. I have found if I use my setting spray as primer it makes my foundation last so much longer rather than using a primer. Combined with my Double Wear, it is nearly indestructible!
Zabrina, I love your background. I hold my makeup brushes the same as I do my paint brushes, further down on the handle. Better control, easier on the hand. Also, I’m gonna try the eyeliner trick. One question, I have combination skin. What type of foundation would you suggest I try? I have True Match and Wet n Wild.
Good tips. Sometimes the primer will pill because it doesn’t work well with whatever is under it, like skincare. Holding the makeup brush closer to the barrel doesn’t give good control, and it’s heavy on the lids, creating wrinkles earlier than we’d like. Also, hodgepodge no the brush from the end of the handle gives more wrist movement than elbow movement. Thank for the work you put into these videos, Zabrena!🤗
I'm so pleased you highlighted sodium lauryl sulphate. I avoid all skin products and shampoo/shower products that contain this as it completely strips your skin of all its natural oils.
I was using SLS in a shampoo and ended up with a terrible skin infection. I researched skin infections and found out it could be the cause. I stopped ALL products with that and it has remained clear 🥰
SLS is also in most toothpaste and was the culprit of my terrible perioral dermatitis. Many toothpaste options now available without SLS with and without floride. SLS is an effective ingredient in products, but some people can become a little sensitized to it.
Thanks for the great tips! One I have lived by that u mentioned was changing what foundation I use depending on the season. I need something less dewy in the summer but need to pack on the glowy products come winter.
Haven't worn much though in terms of cosmetics in years, as my partner detests it. He prefers me in a bare face But I love wearing some moisturizer & a bit of lipgloss or tinted balm. My lips get so very dry!
I love the decor!! It’s beautiful. My tip is to wipe off my fluffy mascara wand after I use it. This reduces clumps from mascara that may have dried. 😊 💕
Drawing the wing from the lower lash line also helps to avoid a sagging/aging lid hood on the outer edge of the eye because the line starts at a lower point. But since you’re winging, you still get the illusion of lift
Yes! These tips are great! As many others have commented, thank you for these easy to do tips. Especially thank you for the tip for textured skin. I too suffer with this fun stuff & I can't wait to try this. Much love to you, Zabrena & your darling family❤❤❤
Thanks for all these tips! I'd love to hear your specific recommendations for summer vs. winter foundations...I do get dry in the winter. God bless and keep you!
Mascara tip that has been helping me: Put tube in hot water before use. I use waterproof because the curl holds better. These formulas are drier though so they don't weigh lashes down. They can come out a bit dry, flaky, and clumpy even though there is plenty of product left. Warming them up melts it back to a creamier texture.
Lash tip...They actually sell these (I had $9 Trim brand one years ago) but you can also set your metal lash curler atop your flat iron or your curling iron while you get ready. The metal will warm the pad (& won't burn u since it's curved so not much contact is made even after 5 min). Alternatively you can blow dry it but that’s an extra step.
Zabrena do you know of a good dupe for Lancome's Powder Foundation? I used it for years to set my makeup because it is not a drying powder but I just noticed their prices went to 50.00 for the compact now. Use to be 38.00, then 42, now 50. Many of the drugstore powders in the compact are too drying. Plus I like the extra coverage over my foundation.
Great video! Holding the brush further away works the same way as wisking does. It makes blending a breeze. I also Use my lower lash line for creating a wing. I have hooded eyes and this opens the eye more. I also invert the dark outer color and the lighter lid shade locations. It opens the eye a lot if you have hooded eyes and/or older eyes like me.
I have been using a cleansing oil by Burt's Bees to take my makeup off and then I follow with a gentle cleanser. I LOVE the cleansing oil. It says it is for dry/normal skin, however, I have oily skin and it does not affect my oil production at all. My skin is super soft and it is great getting off eye makeup without tugging. I highly recommend.
When setting my face and under eyes I use a powder puff, I get the powder on it work it into the puff, then spits it with setting spray. I also do this and have it setup to use as soon as I blend out my under-eye concealer. I also set my cream blush and contour with powder blush and contour,it helps the color stay on my cheeks longer.
I tip my makeup mirror up when I put mascara on top lashes and down for the bottom lashes. This helps me from making a mess on my hooded eyes on top and my puffy under eyes on bottom.
Thank you for sharing this. So smart!
Or like a lot of youtubers etc just do your brows and eyes first (that way you can clean up fall out etc) and then do your foundation etc.
That is a great idea!
From one 39 year old to another: THANK YOU!! 🥰
Yes it’s a fantastic method, but I have seen it done many times by other makeup artists. Keeps everything looking more clean and eliminates more touch ups. But for those that don’t know this, it’s a great trick to know.

Same! I have that same RT fuzzy powder sponge and it’s really a game changer for my 52 year old textured skin!
Good to know. I should try that! I have been using a powder brush for as long as I can remember. I spray setting spray and then press it in with a wet beauty blender.
I have dry patches and oily skin, dk you think it could work for me?
Is this something that would work with pressed powders too?
I like wearing highlighter under my foundation. It gives me a glow from within look without tell-tale streaks.
You're right about mascara wands. Been using certain clean wands to separate my lashes also using them with mascaras whose wands I don't like. As an older gal, I use primer around my lips to "dam" in the lipstick. Not on my lips, but in the fine lines on top of and below my lip line. "Free" mascara primer hack (aka get xtra length/vol) THAT WORKS: apply brow gel or clear mascara to lashes & powder w/ face powder using a synthetic small fluffy eye brush. (You'll see it build on tips.) Apply mascara per usual. Finish using a spoolie &/or lash comb for more realistic tips & separation.*
Try one eye w/ just mascara & one eye like this & after just 1 mascara coat tell me u don't see a diff!

The priming spray will still help because it puts a layer between the skin and the primer. However it is adding more expense when you could just do a little googling and find a different primer as well
YES!!
Thanks for the mascara wand info! I love a tiny, rubbery wand over a “ Christmas tree” wand on my smaller hooded eyes!
Agreed with the wings especially with hooded eyes.
Thank you for sharing where you got the heart lights from! Your background decor is always so beautiful 😍
Thank you... very helpful and your decor is beautiful.
Your makeup videos are so realistic and way more useful for everyday makeup
I love the tip for season-specific foundation. I moved from a dry climate to a very humid climate and have always struggled to get a smooth application. I had given up on setting powder as well so I will try the damp sponge next. Thanks Zabrena!
I have used the wet sponge! It work’s amazing! Works wonderfully on aging skin.
I love the Valentine decor sweetheart! TY 💞💕💘💖💗💓💝 God bless you in every way Z.
Your background is so cute! 😍 And your curly hair is so pretty! I would personally love to see a video of your curly hair routine, what products you use, etc. as well as how you refresh it in the following days after you wash it 😊
I love your background Valentine's Day set. It is beautiful. 😍
Such good tips. Hugs beautiful your makeup today was beautiful! Love the lip color.
I have recently been trying some different techniques with trying to make my makeup last longer. I have found if I use my setting spray as primer it makes my foundation last so much longer rather than using a primer. Combined with my Double Wear, it is nearly indestructible!
I do this too! I use setting spray then L’Oréal infallible foundation then the setting spray again and it lasts all day! Really good tip
You’re the best! Simple the best! Excellent tips and yes beautiful VDay background! Thanks for the helpful tips! Blessings, Zabrena!
Oh wow!! I've never found anyone who loves this mascara too!! The big, is the best!!
I really appreciate this, especially the eyeliner one. Lord knows I need practice to make it look presentable and not lose my mind 😂❤❤
Great powder tip! I wear the same foundation year round, but I DO vary my skin prep based on the time of year.
Great tips! I’m going to try and wet my sponge before applying powder!
Thanks!
Your background is gorgeous and thank you for the pro tips. It's hard to find QUALITY content. 🥰
Yay! So happy to hear you found it helpful! Thank you for being here!
Yes mascara brushes do make a difference as well as seasonal foundations. I like hydrating ones in colder temps & powdery ones in summer
Haven't worn much though in terms of cosmetics in years, as my partner detests it. He prefers me in a bare face
But I love wearing some moisturizer & a bit of lipgloss or tinted balm. My lips get so very dry!
Well done! The new background made me smile 😃
Aw yay! :)
I love your hair. Wondering what products you use for curl and anti frizz. 💕
Loved the tips! Great concept. Last part about the foundations was also super insightful
I have been using the hairspray method for my brows for years. That's the only thing that will actually keep them in place! Thanks for the tips!
I reuse my makeup wands when I like. I figured this out years ago!!
I tap a tiny bit of my moisturizer under my eyes once makeup is done & after I set my face 🥰✌🏾. Blessings to you doll 🙏🏾❤️
Yes ! Love the Valentines curtain lights! And thanks 🙏🏻 for your tips
Wow your a lovely lady thanks for all your tips. Hair is amazing. 😊love the hearts in your back ground.
Great video! Loved learning the water and oil based makeup tip. AND your heart lights amazingly beautiful.
That lipstick is GORGEOUS on you!
Apply mascara looking down into your hand held mirror. If you have a swiveling mirror on you vanity will work so good too
Best background yet! Love it! Love your videos Mrs. Z! Blessings to you my sister in God. 🥰
OMG I love your lipstick. This color looks gorgeous on you. You really should wear those kind of colors more often. Have a lovely day:)
I do too. I have found blending my foundation with lotion helps
@@qveenissac I have an eyelash curler heater
Love the background decorations ❤
Hmm, I'll have to try the inverted colors, thanks.
Oh my your hair! That’s the color I’ve been wanting. I also have curly hair!!!
Love the new Valentines Day decor too!!!!
It helps when you're beautiful to start with.
That lip color looks amazing on you, Zabrena!
YES! Cleansing oils are super!!
I use it too! Love it!
💗❤️ your background! ❤️💗
Your hair and makeup look here is fabulous.❣️
Love this video! Thanksfor creating this, will revisit this again!
Zabrena this is an excellent video. Thank you.👍💋🙏
I tip my makeup mirror up when I put mascara on top lashes and down for the bottom lashes. This helps me from making a mess on my hooded eyes on top and my puffy under eyes on bottom.
I love your studio backdrop
I have been doing the winged eyeliner technique for a while and perfect for hooded eyes
Great tips, I’ve tried a few of theses for years, can seem to get the powder right on my dry skin thou
Big hugs to you!! 💜💜
I've been waiting for you to pop up! Thanks for the tips!!
Thank you for this helpful video. Also love, peace and joy to you and your lovedones. :-*
