I worked in a large hobbytown for several years and the owner who was a flying buddy of mine told me one day, " you know you only have to work half days when you own your own business, you just have to decide which 12 hours you want to work, the first 12 or the second 12" lol....
This guy is a joke ran Sanford HobbyTown to the ground with his bad business piss poor knowledge, inferior knowledge of RC did nothing other than Traxxas and barely knew anything about Traxxas floating off of Mom’s dad’s money this is a old vid he is reusing
@@davidnieves2202 damn that's a shame, was fascinating and insightful and appeared to have good customer focus and heaps of energy. Any idea what the main influence(s) was for the struggle with profit?
Great video! The passion for the products sells stuff better because people gain confidence from yours. You know what you're talking about, and you stay on top of everything. That's dedication! The standing backflip was an excellent touch!!
That is a huge thing for me. I like going in and hanging out with other enthusiasts, talking ideas over, showing new builds your working on, and being able to see what your buying in person. Im in Vegas and the only hobby shores left are friendly hobby’s, thankfully they are great people.
I actually called this shop a while back when I was looking for Arrma Vendettas when they were on sale. They were listed in stock online so I was calling to verify. The guy that answered the phone was super helpful, polite, and actually pointed me toward another shop that was closer to me which had the car in stock. That's good business and I'll definitely take a trip out there someday.
We need a Chris in my area. All our hobby shops are a bit lacking and kind of sad. Nothing really close by or in one of the most densely populated counties in Ohio. Lots of more rural areas surrounding with tracks and courses too. We're mostly ordering online here. This actually makes me want to open up a shop and run it like Chris.
What a find finding you here on RUclips, you have a awesome vibe, always smiling and making me smile here. U deserve success in you life. God bless you and your family
Wish this personality carried over to real life. In person is not the same. Not trying be negative. But you see this guy on RUclips and you walk in excited to meet him and assuming he's an enthusiast. What you actually get is a dulled down personality that seems to want to avoid conversation. And I'm one of those customers that comes in with part numbers in hand. So all they have to do is go get the part. I even check their site to make sure it's in stock. What would be amazing is if hobby stores carried aftermarket parts from Vitavon, Scorched, M2C, Hot Racing, Integy, Custom RC Upgrades etc. For us who build custom rc's these parts are always a week away. How awesome would it be if they had an inventory of things like 7075 bulkheads or titanium axles from Scorched rc.
My local shop does carry all the aftermarket’s you mentioned, maybe not all of them but a lot anyway. Hell I thought every shop did lol, guess I’m fortunate
I loved this video so much, even if it’s not the actual rcs driving, this part of the hobby is one of the coolest ever, I visited my first hobby shop 4 months ago at age 29. Probably one of my favorite memories of Orlando after riding VelociCoaster in island of adventure lol. Anyway I just wanted to thank for sharing this video I wish you the best in your store man, I’d love to visit to get my second RC 😊

Kinda cool this video just popped up and you're about 20 miles away. When I was younger I was in to RC grasshopper hornet then a RC10. And haven't messed with it in decades. Bought a rustler from a co-worker with all kinds of problems worked out many of them, but if I can't figure out the rest this is where I'll be going
This guy makes it sound like all fun and games owning a hooby store. It isn't. It's lots of hard work and worry. He didn't say anything about all the paperwork work you have to do. Having to deal with customers that are know it alls, people complaing that your prices are too high. The 80 hour work week that you have to put in. And all the headaches that go into owning a business. I ought to know I started out working in parents hobby store in 1965, the store had been in business since 1932. After working in/ owning it for 35 years myself I closed the doors. I just got burned out. When you own your own small business you have no time for yourself. And now days to open a store you would need at least a million dollars just to get started.
Im in the DC area and locally my fav store is "Hobby Works" Rockville MD. A guy there is great at repairs etc, but I been to some other stores nearby that might claim to be capable with RC repairs etc but imo always fell short. I wish this guys shop was nearby indeed.
I’ve been in a hobby, for at least 25 years, it was cold to see a video how to run a hobby shop. But what would be nice is a video on how you completely got started owning your own hobby shop from start to finish because I’ve always wanted to own my own shop and I have no clue.
hey I've watched a few other of your videos in the past, but this video was really cool, its rare I watch a video all the way through without skipping a bit I've subbed cause I liked this video 👍👍
I have had a good experience with HobbyTown. Since hobby shops in British Columbia, do not always carry what I need, I often cross the border to pick up my preorders in Bellingham.
Awesome video. Its funny, the person you answered on the phone is from Tampa and i'm also from Tampa. My local Hobbytown i believe has closed down during the Christmas holiday.
I always tell my customers if your not gunna bring in the car to take a picture of it. then its easier to help identify it and all that. Cheers from Hobby Town Bellingham!!
My local hobby shop is a Hobbytown. It, well, it's not the greatest. I learned that it has a lot to do with the area I live in. Small town. They don't carry a whole lot and it seems like they only stock what they want. Maybe that's not the case but it just doesn't make much sense how they stock things. You'd think they'd have new releases as soon as possible. They do carry anything Traxxas, but that's it. They have still yet to get a Phoenix, Fordyce, Knightwalker, Yuul, CJ7 and so on. I'm not new to the hobby but have only been in the hobby a few years. I shouldn't be more educated on stock than the stores employees. That store pick up you talked about. Yeah, I tried that twice and each time I never received an email saying it was ready and when I did go into the store to pick it up, I was told, "we don't do that here." 😂. They also have a bad habit of not keeping up with Hobbytowns website pricing. The website listed a reedy 3s xt60 lipo for $35 a couple of weeks ago. It was in stock at my lhs. So, I went to get it. They charged me $50 for this lipo. I tried to explain the price on the site and he acted clueless. I just left. I give up on them. Amain from here on out 😂
You should do a daily interaction video. I feel that could be interesting. Also I’m looking to open a shop of my own one day so cool out look on things.

Great video! Most people don’t realize what it takes to own a business! Even a Hobby store can’t be all fun all the time! P.S. looking through your videos I noticed not 1 Arrma truck? What’s up with that?
I hope you’re not in California because the state will try to make sure you don’t make any money and fail. Great video and hope for tremendous success!
Does Traxxass threaten or incentives shops to push and carry their products more? Both my local ish shops have tons of Traxxass, especially the crappy lower tier ones. They will only stock a few random cars from other brands tho. I went to buy a 4S Mojave. Didn't have one. Decided a V 2.5 Kraton would do, nope. They had probably 250 different Traxxass, it seemed at least 1 of each color of every model but only 15-20 Arrma and they were mostly the worst models. The boost and mega mainly with 1 6s Kraton that was the display model, a couple Fireteams, 1 6s Infraction, and 1 v1 rtr 8s OC and a few of the 3s lineup. When i told them what i wanted the salesman told me i really didn't want those. I needed a Slash or Maxx. I asked him why there were so many Traxxass compared to other brands. He said 'because they sell better'. That may be true but i wonder if it's true because of lack of options. Others who went there like i did may have bought something they didn't actually want just because they were determined to buy a RC that day. I had driven over an hour and hated leaving empty handed. Even the crawlers were 25 to 1 TRX to everything else. I suspect the real reason is that it'd be harder to justify those Traxxass prices, especially to a newbie, and harder to meet those Traxxass sales quotas with more options. It really frustrated me. I wanted to support a local store but they wouldn't let me. I wonder how many people have went there and left paying more for a Traxxas model they didn't actually want or left with an inferior model to what they came for because it was the Traxxass they could afford. All this novel to ask, Does Traxxass push quotas that hard or is the markup that much better on Traxxass or is my closest shop just ran by fan boys?
I wonder if everybody has a real appreciation for the fact that you have to purchase and carry all of your inventory first. If you sell it, then you make some money, but if you don't, you're burnt.
I feel for you with those kicked around packages man. Last year I was looking to purchase a special edition black Xrt. As you well know they weren't the easiest vehicles to obtain. When I found a local hobby shop that had one I was practically there before I hung up the phone haha When I got to the hobby shop the kid behind the counter pulled out a ladder and retrieved it from the top shelf behind him. I was excited.. I was finally gonna take my baby home. Then he sat the box on the counter and my heart sank... The box looked mangled. Had a few holes in it too. He seen my reaction and quickly said "I can take it out the box for you" I thanked him and left shortly after. I wasn't about to shell out a grand for anything in that condition.. even if it was in perfect condition. Fortunately I came across another one at another shop a few weeks later in great condition that I glady plunked down the money for and the rest is history
Advice...be humble don't be a jerk to customers and coming across to them as gatekeepers. Accommodate to anyone especially those who come in as newbies and don't know the hobby. Just as experience I've seen this several times in hobby shops I've been. That's why people buy more online(myself included) still supporting a store, and we have RUclips to teach them about the hobbies they get in to.
I just found your channel!! I was so happy when I learned that your shop is only 20 miles away. But everything is saying that your store is permanently closed :( Did you rename the store or are you closed down?
Maybe I heard wrong… but did he say “Stanford hobbytown” ? I was just curious where it was so I looked it up in maps. It says it is closed permanently 😢.
hello may not remember me but i bought a sledge and the motor is destroyed but gears are good😎😎 also what is your avg price on the trx4m defender bc i want to get a rock crawler or a drift car while my sledge is down😭😭

Hello guys, just wondering I used to come to your shop what happened to it?

Awesome stuff bro! 👏
I'm 32 years old and it's my dream to own and run a hobby shop
Cingtrats a dream if .ine to have a hobby store one day.
These must be old old videos considering he doesn’t own the store in fact that store is closed all together
I saw this pop up and was like....uh, what? OG owners took it back over but I guess it was too far gone, closed permanently now.
Planning in getting back to RC, thats how I found this video and already subcribed, only one question where exactly located
Fantastic video buddy,
Thanks pal
Nice shop
Great video! Most people don’t realize what it takes to own a business! Even a Hobby store can’t be all fun all the time!
P.S. looking through your videos I noticed not 1 Arrma truck? What’s up with that?
This is old for sure, the store is permanently closed. Bummer cause it was the closest shop to me.
That's what I found too I'd be interested if he can update on this
I hope you’re not in California because the state will try to make sure you don’t make any money and fail. Great video and hope for tremendous success!
Bro u rock

This is 100% accurate

We would want to visit
Wish you were in Colorado man.
I just found your channel!! I was so happy when I learned that your shop is only 20 miles away. But everything is saying that your store is permanently closed :( Did you rename the store or are you closed down?
When are we gonna get the Raminator video follow-up???? What is your asking price for it??
Raminators aren't flying off the shelf?
I think an indoor Raminator running video could be the ticket.
Hell yeah
Need any shop/warehouse help or help in the store? Looks like the ideal place to work for someone passionate about the hobby.
Maybe I heard wrong… but did he say “Stanford hobbytown” ? I was just curious where it was so I looked it up in maps. It says it is closed permanently 😢.
there’s still a rc shop but a different company
