I worked in a large hobbytown for several years and the owner who was a flying buddy of mine told me one day, " you know you only have to work half days when you own your own business, you just have to decide which 12 hours you want to work, the first 12 or the second 12" lol....
Only thing left to boost traffic is a mini rc drift course/crawling scale course to encourage people to hang out and make the place look more busy, attract more purchases etc but then again.. space is a big problem too im sure haha, imagine though! nice looking spot
100% correct. Finding ways to encourage community involvement in places like this are how you can get long term success. So many hobby shops sell product, people take them home, and then become bored because they don't have anyone to enjoy the hobby with. If there are ways to bring that person back to participate in the fun, it'll drive long term business success and return customer.
Great video! The passion for the products sells stuff better because people gain confidence from yours. You know what you're talking about, and you stay on top of everything. That's dedication! The standing backflip was an excellent touch!!
Hey I must say you the man! You work your way up through the hobby and became a hobby enthusiast and on top of that you are now a owner operator. I see you care about your customers and you run a tight ship. Love your videos they are very informative keep up the good work and good luck.
This guy is a joke ran Sanford HobbyTown to the ground with his bad business piss poor knowledge, inferior knowledge of RC did nothing other than Traxxas and barely knew anything about Traxxas floating off of Mom’s dad’s money this is a old vid he is reusing
@@davidnieves2202 damn that's a shame, was fascinating and insightful and appeared to have good customer focus and heaps of energy. Any idea what the main influence(s) was for the struggle with profit?
I’ve been in a hobby, for at least 25 years, it was cold to see a video how to run a hobby shop. But what would be nice is a video on how you completely got started owning your own hobby shop from start to finish because I’ve always wanted to own my own shop and I have no clue.
That is a huge thing for me. I like going in and hanging out with other enthusiasts, talking ideas over, showing new builds your working on, and being able to see what your buying in person. Im in Vegas and the only hobby shores left are friendly hobby’s, thankfully they are great people.
I actually called this shop a while back when I was looking for Arrma Vendettas when they were on sale. They were listed in stock online so I was calling to verify. The guy that answered the phone was super helpful, polite, and actually pointed me toward another shop that was closer to me which had the car in stock. That's good business and I'll definitely take a trip out there someday.
Ive been going to my local hobby shop since 1990. They have slot car tracks indoor carpet track an outdoor offroad track and outdoor onroad track. My kids and I been racing there forever and now their kids are starting to race. Absolutely love the hobby
I had no idea you were so close by, I live over in Tampa, and will definitely have to come visit you one day! I'll bring my Xmaxx along, it'll probably be broken as usual.
What a find finding you here on RUclips, you have a awesome vibe, always smiling and making me smile here. U deserve success in you life. God bless you and your family
We need a Chris in my area. All our hobby shops are a bit lacking and kind of sad. Nothing really close by or in one of the most densely populated counties in Ohio. Lots of more rural areas surrounding with tracks and courses too. We're mostly ordering online here. This actually makes me want to open up a shop and run it like Chris.
This guy makes it sound like all fun and games owning a hooby store. It isn't. It's lots of hard work and worry. He didn't say anything about all the paperwork work you have to do. Having to deal with customers that are know it alls, people complaing that your prices are too high. The 80 hour work week that you have to put in. And all the headaches that go into owning a business. I ought to know I started out working in parents hobby store in 1965, the store had been in business since 1932. After working in/ owning it for 35 years myself I closed the doors. I just got burned out. When you own your own small business you have no time for yourself. And now days to open a store you would need at least a million dollars just to get started.
I loved this video so much, even if it’s not the actual rcs driving, this part of the hobby is one of the coolest ever, I visited my first hobby shop 4 months ago at age 29. Probably one of my favorite memories of Orlando after riding VelociCoaster in island of adventure lol. Anyway I just wanted to thank for sharing this video I wish you the best in your store man, I’d love to visit to get my second RC 😊

Awesome video. Its funny, the person you answered on the phone is from Tampa and i'm also from Tampa. My local Hobbytown i believe has closed down during the Christmas holiday.
Kinda cool this video just popped up and you're about 20 miles away. When I was younger I was in to RC grasshopper hornet then a RC10. And haven't messed with it in decades. Bought a rustler from a co-worker with all kinds of problems worked out many of them, but if I can't figure out the rest this is where I'll be going
Wish this personality carried over to real life. In person is not the same. Not trying be negative. But you see this guy on RUclips and you walk in excited to meet him and assuming he's an enthusiast. What you actually get is a dulled down personality that seems to want to avoid conversation. And I'm one of those customers that comes in with part numbers in hand. So all they have to do is go get the part. I even check their site to make sure it's in stock. What would be amazing is if hobby stores carried aftermarket parts from Vitavon, Scorched, M2C, Hot Racing, Integy, Custom RC Upgrades etc. For us who build custom rc's these parts are always a week away. How awesome would it be if they had an inventory of things like 7075 bulkheads or titanium axles from Scorched rc.
My local shop does carry all the aftermarket’s you mentioned, maybe not all of them but a lot anyway. Hell I thought every shop did lol, guess I’m fortunate

Great video! I am sure you have a plan-O-gram that you have to go by. If you have room for some RedCat Racing stuff. They are doing great right now. Easy to work with. I understand these stores are setup like Coke and Pepsi sales. Also your demographic location mite help or hurt your sales. Do you have any tracks near by? Or are you based on "Bashing" I would believe that repairs and parts are your biggest sales. I will also add I think you are doing a great job! We used to have parking lot sales.
