Twinner is a very old model shop in Hong Kong, it located there more than 40yrs sonceI was a boy! About Continental Models Shop, you can find lot of limited edition military model kits there, they’re the most wonderful model shop in Hong Kong. So happy to watch this video introducing those model shops in HK. Welcome to Hong Kong! ❤👍
I love Twinner! O.G. Shop. I remember it and from years ago. Thanks for watching and commenting. I miss HK. Next time I’ll visit more other hobby shops there.
@@weekendhobbyist I first went to Twinner in 1974! Same location! BTW Continental will celebrate their 55th anniversary this December. Amazing. It's the biggest model shop in HK now.
Parisian here. The Continental shop looks like a disappeared model shop in the Latin quarter that was a reference during decades: Eol. Pile of boxes up to the ceiling, aisles so narrow that only one person can be in, almost everything whatever you like assemble...
I've been a frequent visitor to HK and have lived there from 1996-1997 one year span. Interestingly, I have been to all of the model shops you have featured in this video. As for public transportation, The MTR is convenient but I prefer taking the bus as it also run frequent and you don't have walk the stations.
I grew up in HK and spent many a happy hour in shops like these. I'm amazed to see that those RC boxes haven't changed in like 35 years. Exactly the same. Thanks for a lovely track back through my childhood.
If i had a hobby shop like these near me, i guarantee i'd be their every few days getting 1 or 2 kits. Sadly down here in Philly we don't have hobby shops that fits my needs. I mainly like building tanks or ships.
Thank you and your Dad too. 🙏 I have so many fond memories of certain kits too; some of which my parents bought me and some I fawned over each time I went to the toy store. Lately I’ve been trying to find/buy some of these kits for nostalgia ☺️.
The problem with being a foreigner in a hobby store is that if you were going to fly back home, you wouldn’t be able to bring any of the paint or modeling tools (especially the ones that have sharp tips on them). What I have done is buy a bunch of model kits. That’s it. OK and maybe buy some merch if they have it. That’s what I did when I went to Tamiya Plafactory in Japan. I brought a whole extra suitcase for things I wanted to bring home.
Of all the store you visited, Continental is my favorite! I have been semi based in HKG since 2012 until Dec 2019 before covid hit in Jan 2020. I would love to re-visit again these shops as all my trips in Hkg in 2024 were all business which did not allow me spare time to rekindle my old hobby. Thanks for the great video!
Love the street view use, good idea. Edit: generally recording in all shops everywhere is forbidden. Its a private property and shoppers are granted their privacy - thats actually a law, thats not the shop choice, it has nothing to do with the "times", thats basic privacy law. As long as you are not annoying/filming other clients clerks will generally ignore you but thats not given. Some youtubers got in trouble for that - Asia, Us, Eu, it doesnt matter, its the same everywhere.
Thanks. It was hard making the street view look smooth. You’re correct about the private property. As for recording in HK, years ago I noticed that almost all businesses had up “no photography” signs (they said it’s to prevent competitors from knowing their prices) but recently I noticed that those signs are pretty rare. I think cell phones and posting and advertising on social media is such a norm now that it’s not a big deal to photograph anymore. 10 years ago I think most of these stores would have said no to me but today only one did 🫢.
I visited the area around Yau Ma Tei stop a number of times in the 90’s & 2000’s. I remember the shops being in a triangle of roads. When I first visited it there was 21 model shops! On my last visit to the area there was only 7 left 😢.
Good video. I had a similar problem at Ying Ming. They complained when I was snapping pics. Didn't have a problem in other stores. One store that you missed is Wai Le Model Centre in Wan Chai. Staff are helpful and prices are good.
I was there at that exact Tamiya Plamodel store last year and it was like DIsneyland to me. Bought many parts and hop ups that were hard to find. The RC Mart shop which is not far from there was a total disappoinment though.
I live in Mozambique, Maputo and there isn't 1 single hobbit shop here I build cars 24 scale mainly TAMIYA and HASEGAWA and have to get my models from South Africa and they are very expensive. I wish someone in Hong Kong came and have a look at the possibilities here there are a lot of young people that would be interested in modeling if they where locally available. there is a large Chinese community here, maybe they could look into this opportunity ??
Thanks 😊. I will definitely bring my camera if I get the chance to go to Japan. Also a bunch of Hq’s are there so would love to visit Aoshima , Tamiya, etc.
@AmerEl-malak Thank You so so much for your Super Thanks 🙏 ❤️. You just made my day 🤩. I will be thanking you again when I buy myself a coffee from your Super Thanks 😊. What was your favorite part of the video ? I’m editing a couple new videos now. Do you prefer model build videos or paint tests?
El colmo de estás tiendas es que busques un modelo específico y que te digan no lo tengo no lo trabajo y lo mismo con los materiales que te digan lo tengo agotado.
There's more model shops in that small region of Hong Kong, than in the entirety of the UK. Online has killed the UK store. Its why high streets are dieing out.
I have some model kits from Universal Models which I bought there maybe in the ‘90s or 2000’s. I’m curious if they are still around because a Google search doesn’t clearly tell me.
@@weekendhobbyist Universal Models has reduced to a small store in recent years. It's located at the end of Dundas Street near the junction with Waterloo Road in Mong Kok. I just bought a Zvezda 1/144 Boeing 747-8 there three days ago.
Wow, this is one of the greatest, most comprehensive, and well produced videos I've ever seen on RUclips! Just an AWESOME job was done on this presentation! The production value is off the charts! A+ all the way!
Officially no, but I pack the small paint bottles into check-in luggage. Put the bottles in ziplock bag to be extra shape. Worth it. Prices in HK are really low.
Problem is that designing and producing plastic models takes months, and F1 bolids change every year and are kept secret up to the last moment. So when they finaly release the model there is already a new season and a new car :). That's why most producers go for older cars.
Filming was pretty good but the major mistake is Not taking ur time filming because even slowed down if ur too fast its impossible to make each toy out clearly. I know plenty of YT's that I had to stop watching because they just Scan Scan Pan Pan and I can't see a damm thing. Good job
Ugh! Why can’t USA have at least one store like this. Yes, we have HobbyTown in my state of Ohio but theirs selection is pennies in comparison to these shops! I’m not familiar with your channel, are you from USA/UK and traveling China? If so how hard is it to be there?

So funny about those RC boxes. Are they the ones in Twinner or Ying Ming? Those stores are institutions to the modeler community in HK.
