Woman Spots Great White Shark Next to Her & Reacts How Most People Would: Complete Surprise!

  • In this weeks' video I share another typical beach scene from Southern California. These are merely observations remember. Once again, a great white shark comes very close to surfers that have no idea it is there. However, now there's a trend. People are now recognizing the drone signals a shark is nearby. Instead of avoiding the area, folks are now approaching the sharks by looking for the drone.

Take measurements in a controlled environment to get accurate measurement of its shadow and you can use calipers measuring the drone shadow using a still picture of it over the shark. When I was a kid in Australia, my family were visiting a family friend who was a fisherman. I went looking for him and found him at the top of the cliffs looking through binoculars. After saying Hi, he slammed the binoculars at my chest and ran off, saying “look at the windsurfer” I look through the binoculars, and see the windsurfer, who was sitting on the board. Then I see why our fisherman friend freaked out. There was a great white shark BIGGER than his windsurfing board, under his board, but deep down. Then, I realized that it wasn’t after a meal, it just wanted some shade from the hot weather. The windsurfer had no idea this ginormous great white was below him. Then I look down at the beach and see our fisher friend yelling ( couldn’t hear him from the cliff) and waving at the wind surfer. Eventually the wind surfer came in, the ginormous shark swam away. Then as the wind surfer approached our fishing friend. I could imagine what he said to him because the guys reaction was dramatic, he dropped to the sand crying, thinking how he was lucky to escape a great white shark, along with being in shock from the ordeal. But little did he know, that the shark only wanted some shade.

      @@GMObkirchner I think there is no point antropomorphizing and assigning moral responsibility to any animal. Humans assume risks entering their habitat and rubbing elbows with them. It is as simple as that. However, the humans remain the top predator on this planet and, when they arise, territorial disputes are generally solved in favor of the top predator. One way to look at it is to appreciate the behavior of the surfers as very graceful and showing no aggression...

      @kostasl1808 Год назад +6

      @@raymondsublett3108 To be honest, weapons are to a human what teeth are to a shark, a means of survival. It's not like we are using a cheat code or something, it's simply that people are better at problem solving than sharks. That doesn't mean that the solutions we come up with are not destructive or that they are wise. It just means what it means.
      As a side note, it is really disturbing to see people act so carefree in the presence of danger. Learning to co-exist with a top predator (or nature in general)/ accepting the dangers of swimming in the sharks territory and actively playing with fire are 2 different things. I hope none gets hurt and that people would be come more level-headed.

    At some point you are going to film an unfortunate encounter that doesn't end well for the human, the shark, or both. My opinion is that it be shown. As you've said, people are now associating your drone with a shark in the water and are using it to approach the sharks rather than just be aware. Making people aware there is a shark near them is fine, but having them use your drone to approach them is not safe and that point isn't getting through despite your best effort. Respect for the shark is being lost in the number of safe encounters that we see. Nothing will bring that point home faster than seeing an encroachment turn into an encounter gone wrong.

They're sunning, surfing, looking at babes, etc. They are not in hunting or territorial mode so they are not going to be aggressive for the most part (you never know what a wild animal is going to do) and I think people are taking advantage of that. It will certainly only be a matter of time (the bull shark fatal attack in Australia...girl wanted to swim with dolphins) before some idiot jumps off this waverunner, paddleboard, whatever (surfers are generally respectful of the ocean, they are more in tune with nature than the puds that race around on the wave-runners and most of the paddle-boarding folks) and gets bit, or worse.
      I look at it this way: How would you like it if you were just swimming along minding your own business and someone started chasing you on a paddleboard? It would be nice to know what to do, I know that you've said before its better to leave them be and give them space, but with these video and the risk a big shark represents, it begs the question: should you slowly but surely move away? And would there be a way for you to incorporate maybe a tiny siren that lets people know "danger - stay away". I'm going to look for something super light weight that may help. A flashing led and micro speaker with high output that doesn't intervene with your drone and drain its battery to much. IDK... I think you used to have a device that alerted people, what happened with that implementation?

When i suit up i look like a plump sea lion because I'm 6'2 and 320 pounds. I paddled out in Ventura (just north of Rincon) and i totally creeped myself out. I took a quick sloppy wave in because i keep thinking about your videos. I desperately want to be in the water but now I'm scared because of the increase in adult whites. I'm not sure what it's going to take to get over my fears. Maybe i need a long time out from the RUclips videos. I have seen juvenile white sharks most my life because of the nursery just north of me. I've also encountered 3 large whites in the wild. I bolted for safety all three times. Sorry for babbling, I'm sure there are other watermen that are scared too.
