I just replaced 2 bad LP converted gas valves today and two more last week, 🤷♂️ but it’s the dead gas valve season! I love working on gas furnaces so much more than boilers but I digress I do it all, oil, gas, boiler, furnace, heat pumps, mini splits…the list goes on and on! Nice job Mikey!
That limit switch also looks like it’s not the correct part. I like the piece of sheet metal on the bottom limit mounting screw. That stupid metal loop around the gas line looks like some type of “air gap” for the furnace vent piping. That white residue is from Chimney/vent piping flue gas condensing and dripping out the bottom of the inducer gasket. You’re a brave man not putting a back hold on the gas manifold while installing the gas valve. Those manifold mounts are made of such thin gauge steel. Cheers!
4 flashes was actually an open limit switch Mike. It is an open limit on Carrier and ICP as well. Replacing the valve was the right call, if the opening solenoid is sticking closed it may well stick open when it is time to close. For a couple hundred bucks it’s money well spent.👍👍🇨🇦
not looking good for Ohio, there's been multiple home explosions this year and I think all involved propane. it still amazes me people cannot smell that foul stench of an odor, even with stuffed and plugged nose, I can smell a tiny leak far away! neighbors just down the road went boom one night a handful of years ago, natural gas leak.(yes, In Ohio also)
Well being a tech myself I think Mike should stay in the basement and bang on the gas valve everytime it goes for ignition! LOL! J/K....good work Mike! Cheers & Merry Christmas!
Great job 👏. You should give them to me because of my ohhh face. All jokes aside. I have been a long time subscriber. Back before the Steve lav stuff lol. I’m a service tech of 13 yrs. I pranked grubby when he left you the voice mails.
I would love to have the testo. I am just out of trade school and I am still building up my tools. And that would be a great set to own. As I can't afford anything right now.
Hey Mike. I can definitely used those smart probes. Will make work easy via the Bluetooth since I’m a one person operation. This is Dev. I can pick it up locally.
Just started doing hvac in January you should send me the probes because Im a patriot that grew up on Long Island, Massapequa and ronkonkoma to be exact. I live in charlotte nc now. Oh and my name is Mike too lol God bless you mikey pipes
Mikey 6 yr hvac tech from Philly would love to give those testos a spin, and a couple of those pipe doctor chasity cages you got, thanks; me personally choose not to wear when working but I do wear my Beckett underwear because bring oil back 2024 believe 🙏🏻😢.
Love me some percussive maintenance 8:59 as can tell ya lots, but is it “good” to keep there & not replace….. If was my unit, I’d say NOPE, but what do I know 😅
I’m a HVAC and refrigeration tech. I’ve been saving up my tool allowance to buy a set of probes. I would love to try out the testos and then I could use my tool allowance to buy the digital testo gauges instead. I have a set of the original fieldpiece SMANs but they crapped out on me when i was on a roof, a pop up rain shower formed, and some idiot closed and locked the ladder cage of a commercial building while I was up there. I tried to get my digital manifold tucked up inside of a unit, but apparently not fast enough.
@@PipeDoctor Yeah I saw that right after I posted. It’s no problem. I was just getting caught up on my Mikey pipes videos, didn’t realize I was so behind. Keep up the great work!
Great job, but did you address the inducer motor? I feel like you will be back out there by Christmas. Also what was the water in the bottom on the furnace?
I live north of Minneapolis so cold climate, in the country so we do not have natural gas. It coming time to replace our electric hot water heater. Do you have any thoughts on the electric heat pump hot water heaters? Or should I just stick with the tried and true pure resistive tank?
Mikey I could really use that Testo wireless kit. 6 weeks ago was let go from the contractor I worked for 28 years. Had to leave behind my Sman manifold that was supplied by said contractor. Got a new gig 2 weeks ago and new contactor gave me a set of beat to hell 3 port JB analog guages. I've been drooling over the wirelss probes/temp setups but dont have the $ to throw down on some. I asked about wireless at my new place and they said cost was to much and they don't trust the new wireless probes. Help a guy out brother. Pick me !
hey mikey pipes i had the same situation today and we ended deeming the new gas valve bad, what ended up happening was that another company ended replacing the board. i mostly had worked in nyc and never had that situation happen as in voltage to the gas valve and it didnt work,we replaced 2 valves and it worked and died 8 hours later. is there anything i missed while checking. we even used a contactor to verify the load would pull the magnet. we ohm the wires and still missed it.
The Contactor trick for the win… been burned by seeing the voltage when it was not connected to the load… felt dumb when after I went through the trouble of replacing the valve and it still did not light.. back to get a board I went head hung low …
I'd really love to get a set of those become I'm starting my own ac business on the side and I am needing a professional set like those. I don't have the money for those bad boys and it would be a blessing to own a set.
Rolling on the floor laughing!!! Any one else?? I would question if you put the roll out heat plate back in place . But pipe dr? Nope never had a doubt about proper re- install.. An gee you gave that gas valve such a love tap 😂😂 don’t watch me 😂😂😂 But seriously that unit is short short life glad it’s you all an not us having to replace it 👍 I absolutely hate tight quarters.
By the way, Mikey you know that furnace should up at lease 1 inch from that bare concrete floor. Again was in the international building code book at one time.
in the past I have torn down random gas valves and the later model failures are many times a bad full wave rectifier with a dead diode or two. those are the ones with solenoid coils, so they rectify the AC to DC for the coil, while I didn't dive much deeper into the electronics/electrical design, I assume it's that way to A. not make a buzzing sound and B. not cause coil heating. some were failures by debris and somehow getting stick goo inside hanging the physical plunger(s) or the diaphragm/control passage ports. "NEVER, try to repair or modify a gas valve", too much liability and lives at stake!
Code sta 18 “ electrical failure” on a New Yorker, any ideas for me? 1st time home owner. Heat is working but turning on and off. Thermostat says heat on
I think STA 18 is waiting for flue damper, maybe stuck damper or bad wire connection from damper to control. but the control could also be failing at the damper connector/other.
You should send me the testo gen two because I'm just a badass guager. I'm confident, not arrogant. I don't think I qualify though because I'm a lic electrician and hvac tech😂
Mickey.. Why did you not clean out the inside of the gas pipe of that glob of pipe dope, you dope You know that has the potential to clog the gas valve. Shame on you Bro!
Hey Mike Daiack, of Mikey Pipes Plumbing not easy being cheesy. You know that the natural gas isn't 100% moisture free. Honeywell and white roger at one time had a ceramic or foam filter inside its gas valve. I did not you clean the flame sensor? Come on Mikey, no little PM again. If were living and working in russian, you be taking a bucket also into the house.lol. Love you buddy, you be safe out there.

Great advice. There was a house just north of Dayton Ohio that blew up. The debris field is a 200 yard radius. Two people and two dogs are deceased 😢😢

MIke I thought it would be the inlet clogged on the inducer motor( I'm landlord with 15 units I'm always learning thanks) or pressure switch.

Here in the Midwest, we’re both Natural Gas and Areas Outside St. Louis are ALL Electric Homes which is Expensive for Furnaces, Water Heaters, etc.
Love everything you are the best. You are very smart, very brilliant.Love your videos my friend😅
I’ll glady take the Testo gauges Mikey… cuz if you ain’t testin your guessin right? Never hurts to have a few sets in que…

I’m screaming thru the phone you got leverage on the opposite side with your drip leg and union ahhhhh! Which ever way works man
I know but then the other joints could open up
@@PipeDoctor true but that’s why we soap bubbles things
I didn’t see a manometer used to test the gas valve?

I always confirm voltage and then i take a contactor and wire it see if pulls it in if it does then i got enough to open the valve

When I replace parts in a furnace I always clean the flame sensor just in case
FROM CHICAGO EXELENT VIDEO THANK YOU SO MUCH
Lol, I know a couple of homeowners that will sit in the basement and tap that gas valve every time 😂

Wondering why the inducer motor was making that noise at startup?
noise was normal sounding

Yes

@@PipeDoctor strange because the whole unit was replaced last year! Thank you

those american standard furnaces have heat exchangers made of paper
Good work pipes!!
I would recommend the customer to replace that vent motor as well. Sounds bad. Peace from 🇨🇦

nice job as always......
