Great job Mike, ,my dad was a master plumber who worked on commercial steam and hydronic systems in Philly. Named the Company General piping! He wanted me to do plumbing but when I came home from the air force, (1970) and went to work for Bell Telephone, I got burnt buy putting a cold ladle into a pot of hot lead when I was 14 and I never wanted to do plumbing work again. My dad blamed himself for not warning me about it, we were rushing between rain showers on a summer day installing sewer pipes to laterals. That was the summer of 1964, Horsham Pa. I enjoy your videos, thanks for the entertainment!
I see you mentioned Bell Telephone, in 87 I started at AT&T the newer Bell with all the splits and stuff I migrated to Lucent, then Alcatel-Lucent. Although I was in the Installation group for landline then Cellular. Was a great job 🙂
Thank you for all your video's. You are without a doubt my favorite RUclipsr. You have a way of teaching that makes it fun. You need to have your own (Mikey Pipes HVAC University) trade School. I hate seeing those blus buckets... You work hard to have a clean professional brand... It's time for Pipe Doctor buckets... Thanks for all your hard work Sir Mike.....
I've been watching for quite a while. Your videos have helped me make my boiler a lot more efficient. Love your content and the way you deliver the information
Damn, that's crazy. It's hard to believe that there's anyone walking this earth that wouldn't see that and not think 'there's something seriously wrong here' (referring to the boiler vent being basically disconnected, the WH vent issue would be harder to spot). Mikey Pipes saving lives again. Edit: the 'After' on the boiler's exhaust is orders of magnitude better than the before. One less bend, and it looked kind of like the horizontal run between the boiler and the elbow to the chimney had a slight downward slope towards the chimney..
14:42 beautiful art to sparkies and plumbers….. Having pics of nice and shiny well planned laid out runs of conduit and copper pipe hand more) showing off the attention to detail of installer
For this job?? 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 yeah that was like?? Holy crap when you walked in an the flue pipe was falling down 🤦♂️ THAT NOW looks like a professional installation ❤
Hey Mike Daick , of Mikey Pipes Plumbing not easy being cheesy. I like your podcast/social media, looking thru some comments/chats/reply??? I guess some of your customers, family, friends and competiton been checking in on you again. Come on Mikey, we back too that movie again, "Cool Hand Luke" and what we have here again is a failure to communicate. You got two sets of chains and there will be no third. Come on Mikey, you don't check for make up air too. Love you buddy, you be safe out there.
Hey Mikey, did i hear correctly at 19:50 they removed the tee with drip leg to be code compliant? In my State we must have tee with drip leg. btw awesome job servicing that system!
Nice job and hey you were keeping it real admitting forgetting CO meter. You don't have to seal the vent pipes with tape or anything? Just screws to hold it together? As for the vent piping coming loose id give benefit of the doubt he did it playing with the pressure trol he grabbed it to give a boost up and didn't pay attention to it.
Union on the pressuretrol so you don’t have to disconnect the wires next time? Note on paperwork to have union next service call ? Ask for service contract ?
@ I guess that is what I meant …. I know nyc water is clean and most parts of the USA could not use city water without a lot worse buildup / sludge issues but PM’s is needed as you know .
QUESTION? All my life, there needed to be a Drip Leg on a gas feed. What theory changed to make them change the code? Oh,, All the drip legs that I've ever inspected NEVER had any thing in them. Maybe that's why they changed the requirement to have one. Love the channel. TRUMPS THE MAN!
I put 4 in, 2 across the top, 2 across the bottom. Only takes 30 seconds more to put in an extra one. Just don't have it sticking directly into the bottom of a horizontal pipe. Why you'd put in less when the pipe is so flimsy is beyond me. That stuff falls apart even with 3 screws in it. I use rivets on all connections except for the ends, so that the whole assembly stays together and can be removed for cleaning. Then foil tape over all the seams. But I work on oil for the most part, if you don't do that you get soot coming out of every joint especially if the customer doesn't maintain their boiler often enough.
Mikey that's good what you did but why didn't you put a horizontal vent but as long as you got the pitch maybe you didn't have one in the truck I usually go with a lowboy water heater in Brooklyn houses the five boroughs a lot of them with tankless coils and somebody Jerry Riggs it into the chimney
You can tell that dude was lying about the vent pipe just falling… wouldn’t that be the first thing he would have mentioned when coming back downstairs like omg WTF - most people are clueless about anything and everything
I go in the basement at least once a month and take a 5 minute look at my boiler. Especially in the winter. Check for leaks, pressure and temps on the gauges…but im the same guy who turn his water main on and off every few months as well lol to prevent the valve from freezing.
I’m wondering if that boiler was installed by a handyman? Near boiler steam header was okay, did anyone else see the Hartford loop? I looked at the pipes on the right and I only saw the wet return no Hartford loop.
Sadly if you purchase the new garbage cans, they need to be chained up since people are stealing them like crazy. My neighbors purchased the trash can and it got stolen within a week. Many people supported a corrupt policy that would force them to buy an overpriced low quality garbage can, then when faced with the poor value, it is becoming increasingly common for people to steal them to avoid paying while also trying to avoid the ticket that starts in the beginning of 2025.
nice job i would not use plastic buckets bottom could blow out with hot water seen it happen the guy Spent time in hospital 3rd degree burns on feet and legs
I know boiler s well that pipping did nlt just happen its a hacked job vented not upmtp code allowing Carbon monoxide into the living space - hot water heater is vented wrong
NYC code is no screws on venting, only tape. I usually go back and screw it together after inspection. Along with removing the reset lwco and reset pressuretrol.
All steam boilers should be required to have a mandatory annual maintenance contract by license certificate steam boiler company required by law. Can't play around with steam .I have a security camera on my steam boiler peace of mind.
It really don’t matter. Licensed or not. People just don’t give a fuck. It’s pathetic. I’ve seen shit work by the largest outfits and the Chuck in a Truck.
why send the guy for a smoke elbow, when you can change the layout and eliminate one from above the boiler and reuse it. Mikey's too busy playing with the camera to think pipes.. lol

This is why he's getting calls in Brooklyn He's a trustable guy that knows what he's talking about and does great work
I do my best.
Nice job Mike. At least this gentleman was pretty much honest with you about what he did and He trusts you with your services.
Absolutely 👍
He wasn't honest about the exhaust disconnecting "today". 😂
Well, it looks like I may need to give Mike a call😂
Nice work Mikey Pipes, back to basics as always! Super important as we know with the mud
Those beauties with the smoke pipe, jeez!!!

when I have time and time, i'll be building out those units at my shop
Nice to see you cleaning out the mud/junk out of boiler.
Great and thorough work, Mike. You don't cut any corners.

nice job brother saved some lives today ...
Glad I could help
Nice job Mike, you really hooked his boiler up.

#2 Make the trades great again Mikey Pipes. Smash that Like for the New Guy.
2nd!!
Mike, You know how to take care of your clients!
So much room to have activities around that boiler! Much better than that closet hack. 10 lbs in a 5 lb sack
Nice work Mikey Pipes!

MIKEY STEAMIN PIPES !!!!!!🤯
its me!
Nice install. What kind of maintence is required for the Alpha heat exchanger?
Always learning.
Always thank you.
Nice video Mike, just wondering, what is the about the natural gas usage in m2 for such a big boiler?
That’s how the stack should’ve been done. Great safe job.
Great job 👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Lots of respect sir🙂
Hey Mikey, did i hear correctly at 19:50 they removed the tee with drip leg to be code compliant? In my State we must have tee with drip leg. btw awesome job servicing that system!
NYC does not allow drip legs. Makes it too easy for homeowners or are other unqualified people to tap into the gas line.
@@aaronkoster3940is everything NYC does mentally delayed? Make everybody do dumb things to prevent a few from making bad choices.
Not too shabby.
Not too shabby indeed
Great video. Nice job. Thank you for sharing. May I ask ? What is gas pipe drip leg use for ?
Good stuff bro
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Is brushing out the heat exchanger something that should be done annually, or only if the combustion analysis shows that it needs it?
At a house yesterday contractors put that same water heater in where there was a lowboy so the pitch was like 2 feet down I couldn’t believe it
Pipe on damper needs to be cut down also for better pitch, great job Mike, Perkins chicago.
Thank u
Most NYC home were built with boilers and tankless coils. Bo water heaters. Hence the relatively low chimney penetrations.

I use to have a sensit personal monitor. Every time I passed gas it would go off.. I guess it was a manual self test multiple x per day.
lol
Looks like Lav did the piping . Oh mama!
Do you service area in Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn?
They make a short water heater for that situation don’t they ?
Nice job, I’m sure you run into a lot of questionable issues in your travels!
Mike, what was causing the short cycling the owner was concerned about?
Hey Michael, what's going for tonight how doing these days bro
Dinner. You?
@PipeDoctor, so Michael what are you having for dinner tonight perhaps
Jw whats with the code for removal of dirp leg on water heater about?. I have to use them where im at
The city of New York dirt drip legs on gas is not permissible
I had thought that 3 screws in C and B vent was basic code throughout North America
I put 4 in, 2 across the top, 2 across the bottom. Only takes 30 seconds more to put in an extra one. Just don't have it sticking directly into the bottom of a horizontal pipe. Getting clean the lower the cutoff probe

Does the landlord hate the basement tenant? That’s a death trap
Nice job Mikey.... scary sight walking into that basement... Now safe to operate .
You probably saved that guy from a untimely death...well you are a doctor
There are many options for belt worn CO detectors
For you know Bosch bought out York January 1st
Good service call Mike. Would you agree this guy should not DIY boiler maintenance. ?
Based on the condition of the exhaust pipe, absolutely, I agree
I’m wondering if that boiler was installed by a handyman?
Near boiler steam header was okay, did anyone else see the Hartford loop? I looked at the pipes on the right and I only saw the wet return no Hartford loop.
U Mr Pipe. . . Are a or the person who put the "Mook" in MOOK
you know it's an "wonderful area" when you have to chain the garbage and recycle bins........

They steal the trash cans, damn
That’s gangsta
It's NYC.
Actually New York City just passed a law that you must buy the garbage cans from them by 2026.. so yeah, people will be locking up their garbage cans
Welcome back your dreams were your ticket out😅😅😅

That Flue pipe looks like it’s not pitched right oops i should have waited till end of the video
You almost gave that gas valve a bath putting the boiler drain back on.
Just like your sister is almost pregnant. Almost
Don’t count.
Why you never talk about prices…
.?..
Gotta love a homeowner DIY their steam boiler lol these people wonder why these things can explode or leak carbon monoxide...yikes
Thing isn’t screwed
Now it is
NYC code is no screws on venting, only tape. I usually go back and screw it together after inspection. Along with removing the reset lwco and reset pressuretrol.
The New York City fuel code States explicitly that screws must be used
@@PipeDoctor Mike you impressed me again
