You know what Skye... You made me realize that VERY rarely, I can remember the first video I saw from a RUclipsr. And I remember my first Dunkey video clearly: the Skyrim mod with Thomas the train engine.

Dunkey being analyzed by an academic is an iconic gamer moment. I thought leaking Donda would be his high point but some day we will look back to this and think… He was right.
There is no one like Dunkey and the only time I was entertained as much by someone playing a video game was when I watched ContraPoints playing Morrowind.
One uniting feature I see in the best artists - or entertainers - (not only) on this platform is curiosity. It‘s comparably easy to stick to a formula that drew in an audience in the first place but going where their own learning and creativity takes them is what makes good artists great.
While it is sad that certified content thrives on RUclips, aided by Patreon its structure allows unique and more interesting visions good and bad to exist as well. In a subscription bubble the potential of the internet to further progress and innovation seems to be realized. Then CJ the X‘s two hour video essay gets demonetized and reality kicks back in.

This is a wonderful take, just like Dunkey you have wonderful taste. As a filmmaker and aspiring observer, I really can see that there is such great perception hidden within his mind, I feel that it is comparable to Norm Macdonald and even perhaps approaching his idol (Bob Dylan). In filmmaking I think theres a corollary to Edward Yang. So unpretentious and real, yet visceral and poetic in a way real life doesn’t often emulate at-least without hindsight.
I think Soft White Underbelly is a good channel to discuss. It's a photographer named Mike Laita who initially made works about capturing the diversity of the US but ended up doing video interviews with the people instead. From geniuses and people that want to make a change for the better to homeless drug addicts and pimps it gives you an insanely raw and unfiltered view at the world.
I am so glad I found this channel, this is such a strange level of recursive internet commentary.
Feel like you’d love Limmy. He’s a Scottish comedian who had a sketch show on BBC and is now a full time twitch streamer. Honestly one of the funniest people alive and is somehow always “on” for hours at a time.
Came to mind because you mentioned Norm, and Limmy has a similar way with words & the ability to make absolutely anything hilarious.

Good video, Skye, or may I say, good ideas. Dunkey is a master at his art. BTW, you should play Boodblorne. I'm 30 and had given up videogames since childhood. Came back recently to try the "soulsborne" games (Bloodborne being one of them). Totally worth the struggle (and it definitely was one). Seriously, it might be the best game of all time. We're not yet seeing its influence because it was released 2015, but I guarantee, in 20/30 years from now, we'll look back at how Bloodborne shaped gaming. Also, recommend you watch HBomberguy, his videos on games are great, well articulated and thorough, and he also likes presenting neat arguments against stupid alt right ideas once in a while. I think you'd like it.

As for other RUclipsrs: I think JrEg, a much newer voice, is one of the best that the site has seen perhaps ever. He is truly an uncompromising talent working in the area of satire but his dedication to avoiding labels, avoidance of needing to please anyone, as well as his mental openness, is truly admirable. His case studies and the lore that he has built can be a bit dense and convoluted in how it is communicated, especially those who are not internet-addicted gen-Zs, but, oh, is the multilayeredness and the wit of his analyses and presentation style so great!
Curious if you're a fan of nakeyjakey. He's been sadly inactive for something like a year but he has a few very well edited, funny, articulate video essays. He's not quite the same as Dunkey in those ways but he's got something of a similar appeal and even a few videos on similar topics Dunkey has discussed.
in all realness though, professor skye your comments on literally anything are so insightful, i mean this with the utmost sincerity when i say that not once have i watched one of your videos and walked away without having learned something meaningful. i appreciate you for all that you've done and continue to do, and hopefully will do for many years to come. dunkey funny

I love this series and this video. I have watched a lot of RUclips since I was a young teenager, and it has had an impact on who I am. There have been a few standout channels over the years and Dunkey is one of them.
I have found myself wanting to preach Dunkeys praises in a similar fashion to this video, but have never been quite as articulate as you, or found anyone who would want to listen, so this video is cathartic in a way.
I think you should do a video on Internet Comment Etiquette at some point. He is constantly on the pulse of Internet satire, and would fit this series well.

Ayo good video I'm a big fan of dunkey too but you confidently saying hes the best in the video game sphere makes me think you haven't seen Tim Rogers' work. He has stuff on the Kotaku channel and also his own channel Action button. If you can get into it I would assume you would love it !

I fully acknowledge that this might be a gutsy ask. But since this is the first record I’ve ever released, I literally have nothing to loose lol.
If you are interested, that’s fantastic. Let me give you some context. I’m a Christian. I had some experiences that made me want to deconstruct my faith a bit. I also wanted to make a record that wasn’t your typical “Christian Music” (whatever that means lol).
I wanted to bring a more confessional singer songwriter approach to it. I wanted to talk about aspects that don’t seem to be discussed in this corner of music often.
I’m a 19 year old, who made a singer songwriter album in his bedroom and I wanted to bring some of that “indie” spirit that is in some of the music I’m drawn to.

Your explanations are very good at unravelling the genius that is often overlooked in how people make good youtube videos. If I have any suggestions for another online creator i'd say check out "Jerma985". He is an incredible twitch streamer and ex-youtuber who manages to satirise almost every single genre in real time and still maintain an inoffensive and charming personality. And if that isn't enough he also performs grandoise and high effort events from time to time that showcase his commitment to making others smile. He definitely has a less visible serious side than dunkey has but his intelligence and competence is evident. Definitely another creator that will have thousands of papers on him in the future.
