He hasn't interviewed you yet right? He really should. You and Dev Lemons (SongPsych) are two of the freshest music discussion channels I've gotten into in a long time.
@@sadmermaid I love Adam Neely and I liked Patrick's video on Teezo, I'll check out more of him. Never heard of Hivemind thanks! I'd recommend Ben Levin. Also that Ruff Criminal guy has won me over with his 10 second reviews lol.
@@justink8156 i will probably come back and keep adding as I remember lol, but these are also great: Soulr, Mic The snare, Vox pop have had some pretty basic but well researched stuff on music too, the animations are really good. Mic the snare does a similar rapid fire, 10 second round up of recent albums hes been listening to and I've gotten some great new finds from it, I don't have time to go into a full deep dive review sometimes so I really like those quicker ones, but he does deep discogdives often. I'm assuming you know The Cave with officer Kenny Beats?? If you're into music production or just music in general, the love of my life Marc Rebillet was on the cave, and he does live sound making for hours, just on the spot he can make a banging song, he streams for hours and he's also very funny. Knowing Fantano's channel was really important for me cause it opened the door for so many "music discution" american channels (like yours as well Prof). Really changed my perspective about youtube and get me to know a lot of international creators and expand my knowledge about stuff
You’ve got a little MtV’s Dennis Leary thing and a big Bryan Adams thing going on, except when wearing a Breton striped sweater. Great observations by the way, keep it up, and shout out to your Rex loving daughter.
glad that you pointed out why hes so great: hes like this generation's robert christgau consumer guide without the shitty and snarky opinions (ok, *not as much* shitty opinions). most of the time, he can give concise descriptions for songs--i love how he even vocalizes the songs, trasncending the video fromat from just the essay-style reviews. and youre absolutely right with the consistency, his branding, his format, all that, and re the underground point u made, there are albums and bands that i wouldve never dreamed of getting to without someone like fantano
Kip from Napoleon Dynamite! By the way.. I love and appreciate both of you for what you do. Don't either of you change a thing. We love you guys for being yourselves ☺️
OMG THE LEAVING MEANING VINYL im checking out your review of that album it is so special to me. ironically felt like fantano totally missed the point of it, but yeah!!!! ahhaha!!
This is not at all a dig at Fantano or RUclipsrs like him but one thing I appreciate about Professor Skye compared to most younger RUclipsrs doing similar media critiques is his unabashed sincerity. Speaking as a millennial, it seems like most millennial RUclipsrs in this genre sort of hide themselves inside a dry, detached persona or like a sardonic, no-fucks-given persona. In this sense, PS’s sincerity and authenticity are refreshing.
cant believe he didn't go all the way and shaved his head, kind of disappointed tbh (not really, seeing you bald would probably give me a heart attack)
this add nothing to the conversation, but your yellow flannel is perfect with your yellow art pieces.... I assume it was volontary, but its very harmonious
Skye's looking like that dude in a 70s zombie movie that gets bit early on but hides it from the rest of the group. Great video btw! I feel fantanos general influence as far as bringing more niche sectors of underground music discussion to the forefront is greatly under appreciated. Just look at how much he pushed a band like death grips, a band I feel would've stayed a favourite within cult music communities but might've never broken into where they are now as such a influencial, water shed band if it wasn't for him bringing them to his massive, young, tech savvy audience
I think you guys should collaborate sometime. I think he'd bring the on point criticsm and wide knowledge, and you'd add to that you're intellectualism and cultured views . It would be an absolute joy to watch!
You're right. I do like clowning fantano sometimes but I usually respect his opinion on stuff. I've watched enough of him that I do get interested in what he thinks of an album that strikes me, even if it's 50-50 whether I'll agree or not. The thing I appreciated about him right from the beginning is that he uses studio terminology to describe sound. It endeared me and made me give him a second glance right away. And even if his opinion differs from my take on an album or song, I still know he's really trying to dissect and think about the music he's reviewing. That's really important and why I still check sometimes.
Found you through your Sinner Get Ready video...guess where I found that album. A really big selling point of him is how independent he is, no matter the hate he gets for reviews people disagree with. Pitchfork and other music review sites really only have a slight mention of the reviewer, feels very impersonal. Not sure if anyone has had such a big organic growth into relevance in music as he has.
Professor Skye second channel omg. Instantly subbed. I would actually love to hear about literature from you, because even though I have an English Literature diploma by now, my ignorance is profound, as you say... I only know about English and American classics (even though I'm Hungarian I never even cared about Hungarian literature) So it would be great to learn about French literature and others. So happy to hear about this channel!
This is going to be silly and I don't want to start a thing with gamers but check out Noah Gervais for video game stuff. You may like his work (even if you don't like games at all), he takes a very literary analysis approach to video games, much much more than any of the other video game people I've followed.
Love this. I first caught onto you when I saw the Hella Mega Tour review (as someone who LOVES Fall Out Boy & Green Day - and seen them both live) and thought you nailed it. Been subscribed to theneedledrop for 5+ years now and you since a few months back. I’ll look forward to checking out the second channel for more fresh and engaging content… who knows maybe I’ll even get motivated to learn French 😂
It’s been a while since I’ve viewed Fantano’s content, felt like I grew out of him and slowly started to not like what he stood for in shaping music taste. One thing that really caught my attention was when someone was telling him on Twitter that he doesn’t cover enough dance music and he seemed to just kind of make fun of him call him pretentious or something. So I stopped liking him along with other music reviewers just thinking I know exactly what kind of albums they will review and what scores they’ll give them. This video made me go “yeah we could have a much worse person/company being the face of shaping music taste.” So for that I’m back to respecting Fantano since he’s laid the groundwork for a lot of people to express their opinions on music and creating a sense of camaraderie. It no longer feels like we are all being driven into liking whatever magazines and general entertainment cover. Long winded post, but yeah I appreciate Fantano
Yes he is. The countless artists he has introduced me to have immeasurably improved my life. I love him.
