      So did I, and I get where you are coming from.
      But I'm willing to sacrifice some because don't want to see my parents and their friends continue to live in poverty and do without their needs met after working for so many years.
      They worked just as hard for 50 yrs too but the wages were a lot lower then and having families they didn't make enough to put money away for retirement and SS hasn't ever accounted for this plus COLA doesn't come anywhere close to reflecting the true increasing cost to be able to live now in this horrible economy.
      They deserve it just as much as I do. It's time they stop being penalized for working at a time when wages were so low.

    So glad you cover these topics. You explained this well for all audiences but I think it has a significant point on it for those people who want to vote for that "other party" and also depend on Social Security. I think you got it exactly right. They put 900 pages of smoke and mirrors in that plan but not one word about the Social Security they have been targeting for years. IF we are unfortunate enough to have another 4 years of Trump, it will be interesting to see what happens to Soc Sec. You know they will put plans in place that will negatively affect Soc Sec years into the future. My best wishes to all.

      I don't know why it's a mystery. There's plenty of precedent from Trump's term in office. One of the later (2020) things he did was halt the payroll tax (the source of ongoing funding for Social Security for those unfamiliar) through executive order, and promise to make it permanent if he was reelected. There are plenty of old articles available online about it. I don't believe it was constitutional but nobody ever stopped him, and although it may have been an issue had he been reelected, it died off silently because he wasn't. And nobody seems to remember this, but I think it indicates exactly what he wants to do. There also anecdotal accounts of him telling insiders he thought ending Social Security would be a good "second term" project (since he would thave to face voters again) and for anyone that thinks it couldn't happen, he would make a populist appeal to young workers that they are paying into a system that's going broke and may never see a penny. That would gain enough support to override the minority of Americans that collect it. I've always been able to second guess Trump and I can tell anyone without a doubt he would end Social Security, especially with no checks and balances in place to stop him which SCOTUS has already set him up with.

    If you spend and spend, and run up debt to do that spending, and spend more and more on the interest to service that debt, sooner or later very hard choices have to be made. The spending should've been controlled long ago so that Social Security could stay viable. Now we're hoping to get at least 77% and that they don't collapse everything.

    • @silverlobsterfarm
      @silverlobsterfarm Месяц назад

      SS used to be a sacred cow that government was not allowed to touch. The US government started dipping into the Social Security system in 1975 when expenditures began to exceed income. "In 1981, Congress passed legislation to allow inter-fund borrowing between the three Social Security Trust Funds as a temporary measure. In 1983, Congress also passed amendments that allowed up to 50% of Social Security benefits to be taxed if a taxpayer's income exceeded certain thresholds." And, in 1984, thanks to, you guessed it, another republican president (Reagan) they started taxing social security benefits, so they're literally double dipping on our money. "The taxation of Social Security began in 1984 following passage of a set of Amendments in 1983, which were signed into law by President Reagan in April 1983. These amendments passed the Congress in 1983 on an overwhelmingly bi-partisan vote."

      Can noncitizens receive Social Security benefits or Supplemental Security (SSI)?

      Lawfully present noncitizens of the United States who meet all eligibility requirements can qualify for Social Security benefits. This rule also applies to noncitizens authorized to work in the United States who got a Social Security number after December 2003. For more information visit our Immigration page.
      Noncitizens of the United States must meet certain requirements to continue receiving benefits outside of the United States. We stop payments to noncitizens who do not meet these requirements after they are outside the United States for 6 calendar months in a row. If we stopped your payments, we will not start them again until you return to the United States and remain for a full calendar month. For more information visit our International Programs page.
      Some noncitizens may qualify for SSI. However, the SSI eligibility requirements are different from those for Social Security benefits.
      For information on SSI go visit our Supplemental Security Income (SSI) For Noncitizens or Spotlight On SSI Benefits For Aliens pages.

I took care of my wife for 25 years. What else time is she passed and I don't? I got I don't ever get to get more than what I got $400 from hot checks. And increases the time I pay my rent.My water bill.I aint got food they eat.Are they for real

    Tax the millionaires, billionaires, and corporations instead of middle class and working class people. Maybe you should replace the $1000000. you took from Medicare, do it!

    The government does not release info on SS to the media so what you say is your opinion,not fact

    • @lestyerickson
      @lestyerickson Месяц назад +6

      I don’t understand your remark. The Social Security Administration (a government agency) has a website that EVERYONE with a SS# can access information on Social Security, both general info about the program, and specific to themselves. Individuals can also request weekly informational bulletins emailed to them with information/news regarding SS.

      @@howardfriedman7077Unfortunately the Biden administration is doing this country more harm than good. I’m 70 years old and collect Social security. I and everyone else would like to see an enhancement to the program. But at what cost? Biden promised us over four years ago he would improve Social security. He hasn’t done an effing thing either. We should also realize we have suffered the worst inflation in forty years under his administration. I don’t mean to be negative, but the facts speak for themselves. I think we’re screwed no matter who is president when it comes to anything positive for Social Security. I hope some politicians prove me wrong one day soon.

    im not sure thats a good idea. this project 2025 if we did it the right way we would keep them for the experence they have and put them in helping people . who need information fast and appointments. answer questions they may have . its what i would do. not one would get fired . but removed from decision making on there own .
