I'm following your series, a bit late, but binge watching now! I must admit I felt ill when you first found the water sitting in the hull. What a turn around. Glad you didn't give up!
I am new to these narrow boats. Seems there is an ongoing debate over bitumen vs epoxy...yet... there are a lot of boats where they are saying the epoxy flaked off. I have just watched a commercial steel boat repainted with bitumen. 50 year old boat.
I think in an earlier video I saw some overplate on the hull, you should leave some of the bricks out to compensate for extra weight of the plate or the boat may sit too low in the water. Nice work.
Hi, just started watching your vids.... I can't understand why the guys spraying didn't suggest you covered stuff up with a dust sheet or similar [Cheap ones available from Screwfix], and why did they leave the doors open?.... It's supposed to be done in a closed environment....🤷♂️ Ps. I'm enjoying vids. so far, hope you complete it....
Hi James, Wow what a journey and really you've only just started but doing so well. I'me up to 18 now , looking for 19,with 3 questions at present. How did you fix the water ingress leaks found when it rained. Seriously lucky it did rain cos later when internal fitting done you would have the original water problems without knowing where its come from. 2nd under ballast spacers, your idea or recommended. 3rd Having no experience of spray insulation, could you have followed them scraping off as it happened. Lastly a bit of history regarding Screwfix I live near Yeovil and many years ago I met the Screwfix founder in his garage size workshop unit counting out screws into small plastic bags and hanging them on a shop type shelving system. Nails washers nuts and bolts, the lot. Super videos, short and to the point, very informative. Thank you stay safe (PJ)
Ron Webster hi Ron - thanks for the questions. 1. I got 2 of the leaks spot welded which I’ll grind back in the future. The other is the roof which I’ve just patched up for the time being and the forth was a vent in the bathroom which again I’ve temporarily fixed. 2. It was suggested to me by a neighbouring boat builder - made sense to me. 3. No I wouldn’t have followed the guy around as I’d have died from intoxicants. It was my fault for not having the time to prep to boat properly like you would mask out when decorating at home ! Nice Screwfix anecdote. Glad you like the vids - I’m trying to be straightforward and not dilly dally too much !!! Stay safe Ron
Hi James. You'll have to get shares in screwfix lol 😂 Did you fix the water ingress? Loving this narrowboat build. Not that I'd be having one as I've a holiday home in Spain 🇪🇸 But I'll be making a camper van so some of your tips will help 👍🏻
T'airn'KA I haven’t given it too much thought but I might purposefully ruin the pattern just for you !!! I’m going to be building floor lockers too so that will upset the pattern anyway
you could have put the spacer down while doing each small reachable area instead of at the end. so any one else doing this can do it as you go once happy with the coverage of bitumen are you now being paid by screw fix for the advertising
Sorry mate but the sprinkles are hilarious! A brick will soak up litres of water! Anyway I'm at a loss as to why all the bitumen inside the boat? Are you expecting more leaks? Are you going to insulate the floor at any stage?

CAPITALS DUE TO LOSING SIGHT AND REDUCED COGNITIVE ABILITIES. VERY TIDY WORK. WELL DONE JAMES . THANKFULLY YOU LOOK LESS TIRED.
HELLO MICHAEL
THANKS FOR YOUR KIND WORDS - I’LL TRY TO KEEP IT TIDY
JAMES
the tile spacers are fun and artistic
Great job James ,very well done on doing the job right not just a quick fix.get some rest this weekend and looking forward to more vlogs next week.
I love the tile spacer trick
I’m liking the videos James! Best wishes on your narrowboat journey 🙂
Sue Cordingley thanks Sue, that’s very kind of you.
It's coming along a treat! You are right though- bet Screwfix missed you 🤣🤣

Phil Elliott yes I was planning on factoring that in a bit - thanks
Looking good
Tile spacers......Genius!
What a difference in 18 blogs , you must be knackered 😂 .

@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Many thanks the ballast spacers are a good one (PJ)

Good job mate, was that your idea about the spacers if so brilliant. Yes you need to have a good rest 👍
The OCD in me is curious what kind of pattern you'll lay those bricks in? ;-)
Unique idea for the moisture drainage (not around, underneath)
T'airn'KA I haven’t given it too much thought but I might purposefully ruin the pattern just for you !!! I’m going to be building floor lockers too so that will upset the pattern anyway

Instead of spacers. I would have used strips of 1mm aluminium or even galvanised chicken wire.
Fabby. Why are there tile spacers scattered throughout the bitumen? Oh you have just answered that...

Why no blast then two pack epoxy
Peter Mc way too expensive for me
👍👌🇨🇦❤
Don’t say you had a dead line on working on a boat ,never do that , they take years to complete
gess ges it’s not a deadline to complete - just a target to get her in the water and liveable, but certainly not finished !!
