Hey James, wanted to thank you for your 'lighting the stove' tutorial you did way back when. I stayed at a camp cottage in Vermont for a week on holiday, told the partner to get the little stove going, and 3 attempts later, it kept dying on him. I built it up like you do, lit it first try and had it going all night. Every night I was able to do this by building it the James-way and kept toasty warm! Thanks! 🙂 Life/Survival-skills with James!
That middle cabin is fascinatingly ingenious. Glad the raffle seems to be going well. After yours, I got sucked into the whole raffle experience, and am now in raffles for two narrowboats, an uber-luxury barge on the Thames, one house, one apartment in London, and Oh, the omaze house. Which was obviously a no-go. As will all the others be, lol.
BASE CAMP would be very handy, been working with a dremmel and been just using the old covid mask and the safety glasses steam up really bad. Thanks James.
Base Camp.. I do a lot of work with resin and sawing it ,even wet literates dust that's horrible,I'd love a new mask, esp one that doesn't team up my glasses. Loving the dinettes curve
I quite enjoy working and cruising in the dark. We don't have much choice in winter when it gets dark at half 3 in the afternoon. There again I've always enjoyed night driving too. Like you said, just take things slowly, be safe and enjoy it. Sorry we weren't open when you came past, I could have at least had the kettle ready for you 😊 if you had live streamed it I'd have know you where coming 😅 There's a weird thumping noise in the background near the end of your video. It wouldn't have been there if it weren't for Rob's new electric kettle 😂
Basecamp, I would love to win the mask it looks perfect for my brother, I’m hoping he will help out with carpentry on my boat. Your doing a grand job 😊
Basecamp. Loving how it is coming together. I would suggest you consider making some kind of slot-in guard for the window mext to the upper window. My childhood memories of upper bunks on narrowboats is getting damp from the window condensation.
Really coming along James. I am sure the kids will love their bunkbeds. Hope all goes well with the Raffal sales and that you are able to get more work done before winter. Have a great visit with the girls. 😊🤗 Kathy
James, great job! It seems like your life is getting better, and everything is going smoothly- that’s wonderful to hear. We're glad to have the honor of protecting your lung safety while you work! 👍
Good to finally see you wearing proper PPE - nice of Base Camp to pay attention and offer you a very useful product. BTW it's rice and peas, not rice and beans.
@@Transit_Biker People often have this weird resistance to learning from someone else's mistakes - they don't think things are serious until something happens to them personally. In my industry we have a saying: there are two kinds of people: those who make backups and those who will make backups.
@@YaaLFH Yep. Thankfully all I suffered was some sinus issues to learn I needed some respirators, but there have definitely been worse lessons for some!
I have to admit I personally miss your vlogs during the long gaps between them but for sure one was worth the wait. It seems life is getting better for you with off boat jobs and the new boat is coming along so well. You're a bloody hero with all you do with boating, family, friends and I don't know how you fit it all in. Your life would make a great film or T.V. series. One day maybe??? I am not sure, however, if you will make the money Slow Patrol is worth though. 😢
Well done James all coming along well so glad you got some work 👍 good luck with the raffle hope the children settled well into new schools tc now the oldies 👍🤗👍🤗
For your coal and the mess you said you get , what about building a wooden box to store the coal in , put it beside the stove ? have another coal box stored where the kindling is outside , so you just have to swap the boxes .
Glad to see you back & in some improved PPE! That said, looks like the fire bricks on the stove in Sloe Patrol are cracked from when you had the fire roaring? Would suggest replacing those as soon as you can afford it & have a few warm days before the real cold sets in. Wiping down the solar panels could also be a good way to eke out more power from the ever sinking sun going into the colder months. Great to see the progress!
I use 3M P95 cup style respirators or 6000 series elastomeric half face masks with P100 filter cartridges when dealing with dust/mold etc etc. Wear them when dusting, vacuuming, cleaning the cat litter box, and doing yard work around heavy pollination plants or plants with possibly irritating sap/oils. Has done a world of difference. I am also immune compromised, so I wear these around people/in public when I go out. Only real drawback is that I need to keep my face bare smooth shaven for a proper seal, which my skin does not like. I usually get a month from the elastomeric + P100 filters & at least 4 prolonged uses from the P95's, so it's not super expensive thankfully!
I love it but only on moonlight nights and I creep past moored boats. Locks can be more dangerous but if you have a decent head torch and take it slow, it can be magical.. Good to note that hire boats aren't allowed to night cruise, mainly cos their insurance won't cover it. There is a great tradition of night cruising - the old fly boats wouldn't stop, they'd go 24/7 Brum to Brentford and just change crews. Not sure if I'd want to do it single handed though..
It's been awhile since I watched one of your videos in the boat is coming out great James and I love the name that you came up with that has a good ring to it! 😉
Very nice video! Love the progress you make on a day to day basis. I remember when putting dishwasher liquid in fountains was great fun - lots of bubbles. One question about the bunk beds - Which look really good - How are you going to secure the bottom of the curtains for that window.
Why not make some cupboards in the ‘columns’ accessible from the bed - maybe illuminated and with USB power - useful storage (phone book glass of water) and bedside table like.
I've missed and worried about you, James. Glad to hear about the off boat jobs to help fill the coffers. Really, really happy that Basecamp is helping you to see and breathe while you work. My fingers are crossed that sales/raffle tickets will pick up speed. Hope all tge kiddos are happy in their new schools. Keep up the beautiful work on the boat. And do remember to get some rest and take care of yourself. You are doing a lot. Leigh

Thanks James 👍🏻

Don't forget venting on the bottom bed to avoid condensation 😊
Just be mindful James that the top bunk Mattress will come into contact with the window glass and in winter will sweat with condensation. 👍🏼
Basecamp. Looks like it will help with my bloody glasses steaming up when I am routing and trying not to ruin my lungs more than I have already 😅
BASE CAMP would be very handy, been working with a dremmel and been just using the old covid mask and the safety glasses steam up really bad. Thanks James.
You will have to consider the window condensation on a cold night and the top bunk matress and bedding at some point, I'm sure, soon.
Base Camp.. I do a lot of work with resin and sawing it ,even wet literates dust that's horrible,I'd love a new mask, esp one that doesn't team up my glasses. Loving the dinettes curve

This has been driving me mental for literal years! I have learned the hard way that proper PPE used properly is essential.

Always good to have holes that can take two fingers...
Base camp for my husband who is fitting out our narrowboat soon 😊😊
Basecamp
Would love to try that myself nice one James 😊
I thought it was quite dangerous to cruise at night going through locks and not very considerate of other boaters trying to sleep.
