You are most fortunate to have met Nicole. She has been there for you from your earliest days as a video producer, adding her encouragement and support. You two go well together.
She didn’t seem amused
She comes across as a downer
How long have they been together?
Apart from her whiny voice.
@@NFS305 I was just thinking how delighted for her I'll be when they break up.
Hey! I was the skipper on Antonine! The big pink boat! Hope you enjoyed your trip!!😊
you know what they say about skippers of big pink boats........ ??

Thanks for voicing the refreshing view that slowing down can be a good thing. So many are focused on cramming in so much "fun" they don't actually experience it.
Ha, yeah. That's how all my holidays go. One day running around without a plan everywhere I stop. Then several days for relaxed exploring. Finding all those idyllic spots to read 😅
Before your first canal series, I had no idea that longboat canal tours and rentals were a thing that you could do in the UK or anywhere. The first put the bug in my ear that I kind of wanted to do it, now seeing this series makes me really want to do it. This has now made it onto my bucket list. Thanks, Mike and Nicole for putting this together!
Narrowboats, not longboats. Two completely different things.
U.K. canal enthusiast here. Just binged all your canal videos and here’s a note of appreciation, your content is a fantastic tribute to the canal system but the UK in general. Not only that, the production quality is absolutely faultless, you and Nicole (and David with Cruising The Cut) should all be on the telly. You have a new subscriber.
Wow, thanks
Summed it up perfectly. My favorite place to go on RUclips. Always a smile
One other big benefit to the rotating boat lock of course is that it allows simultaneous bidirectional boat movements since unlike a regular lock, it can handle moving boats up and down the lock at the same time.
I live locally, i run along the canal paths often and I must say I take it all for granted, all of it! We really are very lucky here to have it all on our doorstep!
I can stand at the front of my house and see this over the valley. The investment, as part of the Millennium projects, really transformed the old Forth and Clyde and the Union Canals.
Proposed to my wife on a boat on the Falkirk wheel in the company of 40 strangers. (She DID say yes)
why the capitalised did?
Did wb now

The canal series’ have been my favorite. So happy to see them and look forward to the next.
When you come back to Canada you should check out the trent severn water way and Lock 44 the Big Chute marine railway.
Trenton to Georgian Bay on the Trent - Severn Canal with a week stopover on Lake Simcoe would be a marvellous trip. Two big lift locks and a marine railway plus fantastic scenery make it very interesting.

and the Kirkfield lift lock. The Canadian cousin to the Scottish rotating.
Love the words of wisdom at the end.
Nichole's humor with feeding you the bite of chicken. LOL
Such engineering marvels that are still holding strong after all these years. The town of Linlithgow looked very quaint and charming.
Another great boating video. Love learning the history along the way.
I love Nicole's reactions especially about your comments, Very feisty and no doubt not boring.
How did you resist saying “rub a dub dub, two boats in a tub”?
Rub a dub dub a hog rider in a tub
Rub a dub dub. Dub. Dub. Dub.
2 boats in a tub
Next you should do the Irish Canal System. Dublin to Galway.
Love the narrowboat vlogs, and the trains and, well, all the vlogs. Thanks for bringing us along!
For me this is a true vacation. I dislike going to places just to only see what exists there. There is something about having an experiencing and working to accomplish a goal that is deeply satisfying and memorable. Just visiting shops, Restaurants, Hotels, Tourist sites are okay; but I think it's the trips where you explore a challenge and learn skills that truly stay with you forever.
With you on that one. I hate tourist traps. I get so annoyed with the hawkers bothering me to sell nonsense or bump into people in overcrowded spaces. Standing in queues, etc. To me, that is nightmare, not a holiday.
Mom and I also rented a boat for 4 days of our vacation. What a great experience!❤ The Falkirk wheel was so cool! 🎉
I love when Nicole joins. Her sense of humor is so entertaining! 🙂
👊👊 great to see the Melton Wool standing up to the journey-it’s built for exactly that. Safe travels, and we’re looking forward to seeing where you take it next.
That marina at 28:22 - I designed the services layout (so connections for electricity, water, fibre for internet etc) for that Marina, it's in Winchburgh. Good to see it actually get used, even if it was only by one boat that day.
I think you've realised from this experience that the 3 day option caters to people who just want the basic experience at the helm, ride the Falkirk Wheel, cruise through a couple of tunnels and moore in the first town.
For exploration it's best to always rent for a week at the minimum.
I've watched a lot of canal videos, but this one's going in my faves. :) Your positive attitude does me good.
I've enjoy lots of your videos over the last few years....but the series ones...just awesome!! Your wife Nicole adds to the fun of course!!
Planning a trip is great. Planning one that isn't realistic...not so much. Can always adjust to enjoy being there more.
Here is a quote to live by: "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, YOU could MISS it!" - Ferris Bueller. Smart movie character that Bueller. LOL
Nicole is such a great travel buddy! Love her energy and dry sense of humour. These narrow boat videos are my favorite of yours. Hope there will be more adventures on the canals!
Thanks so much!
In July me and my Son went to England for a 9 Day trip on a Narrow Boat inspired from your videos,We are from San Jose Ca, so no canals to practice on.. We went on the Trent and Mersey canal and it was Amazing,The little Medieval village of Burton is a must go to..
That’s so great to hear! What a fun trip to do together. I’m glad you enjoyed it
I've been up and down on the Falkirk Wheel but I have to be honest the view is best from outside the boat - watching the wheel go around. It's an amazing piece of engineering.
English Engineering at its best Built by the Butterley company nr Ripley Derbyshire.
I love this series! It makes me so relaxed and amazed of what there is out there to see!
Hello there!
An old woman (body but not
mind🙂!) here! Just subscribed to
your channel! After watching this, I had
to! My Grandmother was born in
England, along with several siblings.
They all ended up migrating to the US
in their earlier years. I have been to
England, and have seen their canals
and all of their beautiful, long boats!
Just beautiful! Spent time in Chester
England, and Portsmouth. Also watched
the beautiful Swans while staying in Portsmouth!
It was lovely to see (some) of Scotland
on your trip! I found the two of you to be
so down to earth and very easy to listen
to! I’m looking forward to seeing other trips
that you have made, along with the new
ones ahead!
So where are the two of you from? Do
you do this full time, or is this something
you do a few times a year? Great job
on the filming as well! Easy on the
eyes! Take care, and thank you for
the enjoyment! Right now, here in the
US, Florida is facing one of its
biggest hurricanes in Florida’s
history!😢 Following one that just
happened two weeks ago, that took
a path from the panhandle in Florida,
as high up as the West side of N. Carolina!
Taking out entire towns along the way!
Very devastating! This current one,
Milton, is expected to go clear cross
the state of Florida….hitting landfall
near Tampa, Florida. It’s so sad!
If only they could turn global warming
around…which is the real cause for
all of this devastation!
Well! Travel on, and be safe!
Mary🥰🌺👍🙏
I cannot believe you were here! I live 5mins from this store, it is my local!
man I really hope there is more of this series!!! I love you out in a narrow boat enjoying yourselves. especially with great company.
From Scotland myself glad to see someone enjoying it as much as Mike and Nicole! Love the videos keep them up 😁😁
Love this series. Another great video and experience!
Thanks again!
Always love your videos. Found your channel during the pandemic. I love how you do t just show the rosy stuff. Its a little inspiring to watch you and your partner figure out the hard decisions together.
Another cool narrow boat video. Loved having Nicole here again-love her wry sense of humour. This was a real treat and makes me want to return to the U.K. Looking forward to your next video!
The framing of every shot... thank you sir. It looks amazing in every aspect ratio.
I love your enthusiasm, thanks for sharing - great video
Oh thank you!
Just wanted to say i love all these canal videos of yours over the years. Especially round the UK & with Nicole.
Great videos Mike, I am from Scotland originally. Now a Canadian, thanks for going to my home country and showing some of the amazing countryside. Yes it is that green. Keep it up love the videos.
What a great video, going on the Falkirk Wheel your face expressions said it all and having Nicole with you is perfect
Love your videos Micheal! Fellow Canadian here. You should try doing the Rideau Canal. You can rent a houseboat from le boat from Smith Falls to Ottawa, Kingston to Ottawa, etc.
I have watched the three Videos now and this really makes me want to pack a few friends on a narrow boat and go boating.
Great! Going to listen on the way home and watch it later. Thanks for sharing Mike!
Nice, I just recently moved from a town on the Trent Severn in Ontario Canada to Linlithgo Scotland, I’ve seen the signs for the fall Kirk wheel but didn’t realize what it was. Great video and a fun perspective of my new home
Love this episode, this is why I subscribe. Seeing things I haven't done yet but will once I have the means to. Plus you bring a good amount of knowledge to whatever you're doing so I'm sure research is key. Love to see you both having a good time and I'll be watching the next one.
Great video! Scotland is one of my favourite places that I've visited. I'm so glad that you decided to not be stuck on a planned schedule and enjoy your trip. :)
Thanks for taking us along, what beautiful country, and a nice slow pace of life.
May the two of You, Have A Eternally Long Journey, Exploring and Having a Beautiful time Together
Love this series , transports the viewer to wherever you are narrow boating ❤
Really hope you go back again. Trains and boats. Best ways to travel. I just love train vlogs but the narrow boats just hit something in my core. Love it. Keeo being awesome Mike!
Keep* lol but keeo too maybe
OMG this is nuts! I live here, and walk my dog past the wheel most days. Such a great video, you bring a great enthusiasm and warmth to your videos ❤
What a spectacular experience. Long boats look so relaxing. I love how the UK have river side pubs. The lock wheel looks very interesting. We enjoy seeing your wife in the videos. Can't wait to see where you end up in the next one. I predict you will be at a million this time next year.
Narrowboats. Longboats are in Scandinavia.
Just one response to this episode
Don’t stop narrow boating it is one of the
Best items on the tube. It is teaching us a lot
Your viewers and I would think you and Nicole
Also. This is really top notch material.
So lease keep boating.
Be safe and see you both soon we all hope.
Thank you for the journey.
excellent video, this is the best explanation of how the Falkirk Wheel works that I have seen.
Yay!!!!! Have been waiting for this one and it did not disappoint as always! So nice to see somewhere so close to where I live from a different perspective xxx
Really enjoying this series! Slow and easy, enjoying the Scottish countryside...perfect!
What a great trip. This is a great way to travel, lots to see and very relaxing.
Dude, after all these vids, I am definitely going narrowboating in the UK next summer!!
Love discovering things I didn't know about and will surely love doing, so big thanks!!
"No horse play." Ungh. LOL! Absolutely love the channel. I especially love the narrowboat ones. Definitely on my bucket list.
BTW, my name is also Mike. I don't know where you are going next, but I will be watching. 😁 Onto the next!
Right on!
I've been on the Falkirk Wheel, twice, and I've loved it. I've also walked through and sailed through the Falkirk Tunnel. It is a great trip. When you were sailing through the Rough Castle Tunnel, you were sailing under the Antonine Wall. Thank you for saying Edinburgh and Glasgow correctly.
You folks are so pleasant to watch, always makes a day better instantly with your good atmosphere!
I've been in that exact same place as you guys were trying to decide what to do with the time you had left. Not "exact" as in on a canal boat in Scotland, but you get it. Last year I tried to see pretty much "everywhere" in Morocco while I was there...and I realized that I had crammed so much into two weeks that I didn't get to see "everything". It was hectic and busy, I was in a different bed every night. After that I've really tried to convince myself to let go of the travel FOMO and embrace a slower stance on new places. I used to argue "when will I ever be back" and...well, I'm working on it. 😂
What another amazing series you've given us. Thank you so much for sharing these experiences with me.
I should really start exploring more of the UK rather than just heading to the airport and exploring interesting stuff in other countries!
My home town. Glad you enjoyed the lift. I remember when the lockkeepers opened the locks and the Clydedale horses that pulled the barges. Long time ago.
Definitely liking the canal videos. You’re so right with slowing down and take it all in . Nicole most assuredly brings a different Mike to the content. Could use some trains tho lol
The Peterborough liftlock works on the same bathtub concept except they are side by side. The tub thats 65ft has 1 foot more water then the lower tub making it heavier. Once the cross over valve located 70ft underground is open the weight of the upper tub pushes water through the valve lifting the lower tub. Process takes about 2 mins to rise or drop 65ft. Once the lower tub reaches the top and gates open the chamber recieves an extra foot of water while the lower chamber looses 1 foot of water. Always making sure the upper chamber weighs more no matter how many boats are in the lower chamber. Because boat displace water even if the upper chamber has no boats still will always be heavier due to the extra foot of water. Worlds Largest concrete hydraulic liftlock. Marked as a national historic site of Canada. There is a liftlock boat cruise that leave every 3 hours from the Peterborough Marina and goes up the lock system and back down. The Captian Jodie is awesome.
Those canal boats are so cool. Sounds like a fun holiday.
Awesome! Such a cool holiday. My 1st ever trip to Europe was to Scotland. Went to Linlithgow too. Thanks for reminding me that I need to go on canals for upcoming holidays.
Although my favorite videos of yours are the trains, I have to say you have opened my world to canal boats and it looks like a lovely way to spend a few days.
Shoulda taken the 6 day rental. Live and learn.
You two work so well together in those Videos, she got a great Sense of Humor! So happy for you mate!
What a wonderful sentiment to wrap up with. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
When Canadians are commenting on how apologetic people are... take that to the bank!
@derick-smith 😄 I was approaching the door at Tim's the other day, 1 person coming out and an additional going in. With zero exaggeration, we all exchanged at least 3 "sorry!"s and "no, after you!"s in the span of 15 seconds. The excessively polite encounter ended with me saying to them "We are clearly Canadian!" 😄
I am planning my Narrow boat adventure bc of you Mike! I can’t wait to experience the same kind of adventure that you have done! Love your videos and keep killing it with the work man! Your explanation of things make it so much easier for someone who is new to this stuff! Lol
I'm so glad we missed our time window. It was wonderful just to relax and enjoy. As usual, loved the trip.
still not remotely discouraged from wanting to do this myself sometime! Thanks Michael!
These boat excursions are really nice and peaceful, especially compared to a driving trip. It's almost like a trip through time. Except for the occasional town it all looks like the British countryside of the 19th century landscape painters. It was great that nthe sun came out when you visited that castle and medieval town.
What a great trip you guys are having! Love the boat series!😊
My Father worked for the company that built the wheel. The Butterley Company Ripley Derbyshire. They also built the roof for St Pancras Station.
The rotating lock is the coolest thing I've seen engineered in a long time. How fun!!
Thank you for putting the thumbnail section at the start. I came to just watch that but stayed for the rest.
I hope you subscribed too, because there are lots more narrowboat videos on the channel and upcoming adventures.
@@DownieLive I forgot. Thanks for the reminder!

Great video and adventure this week! Glad to see and hear Nicole after several months of just you Mike. No offense, but she makes the videos better. Looking forward to next week's video.
I think I heard of this before but never actually watched it. I subscribed because other than the wheel this looks super interesting and your voice is calm.
So wonderful to see your lovely lady again. Nicole is a fantastic partner to have by your side. I really enjoyed this incredible adventure; really cool.
Another great video!! I think canal boating is a new bucket list item for me.

you should have made this a longer video what a great trip.
only way i will ever see Scotland.

What a wonderful experience ! Thanks for the ride!❤
This is awesome, I’m building my own Narrowboat to do these things. Thanks for shining a light on our little stretch of the world
Our pleasure!
Looks like you and Nicole had a great time. Nice Hitchcock Effect on the tunnel!
I loved this series! Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Nicole is seriously the best. What an amazing boat trip.
I have seen these over the years as they have opened up old cannels in various countries, boating them would be an amazing experience.
The scary thing about the tunnel after the wheel is when you're in there and a train goes by overhead (on the Falkirk High line) :D
These series of boat episodes are appreiated.
I was one of those tourists about 12 years ago. It was a highlight of my trip to Scotland.
Ahh what a wonderful relaxed ending to the series. And the sun even came out at the end! That Falkirk Wheel was very impressive amd almost too exciting! I held my breath for a bit when you went up! I trust the engineering but my trepidation around heights still kicked in 😅
Some may think you're crazy, but this is probably a perfect choice for a holiday for me!
And Nicole is correct - don't bypass the sights to just worry about the destination (or something like that).
Thanks for that boat lift drive video ❤❤. Will have to experience this when next there
