As a live on boater. Best not argue with Americans mate. I've found the breed is very thick and doesn't understand. I leave them alone and I find they return to their natural habitat where they are all thick and get on quite well. Great you got the drone.
I am very sad to hear that is your experience with Americans. Let me assure you we are not all like that at all. I have come to love this family even though we have never met….and of course common courtesy is something every human in this world should practice. Courtesy is always appropriate…Kindness is always the best way to go through our days….and sadly we do run into some unkind, people with lack of understanding…or who even care about being so. That is not just American, it is nasty human nature. I personally find when I am kind and courteous, and listen to other’s point of view, I receive the same in return. Truly, there are more kind people, than nasty ones. I have experienced a couple of very nasty ones people, but truly many many more nice ones. I find most are actually good people who just do not understand, as you say, the saving of water in a canal.
Great vlog….. No matter what country we are from I do not believe anyone likes confrontation….and there is no reason for it. So glad you got through that without escalating into anything physical. Believe me it is not only certain nationalities. I would call that Canal Rage. Here we experience Road Rage. It is individuals, not nationality. We experience it from all walks of life…it is very stressful. Again, so pleased that you got that drone back…..I agree that it would be very difficult to have left it up in that tree.
No need for generalisations. All the Americans I've met on canals have been great. God knows what was going on in this fellas life to be so angry over nothing. He's probably very unhappy in life to be like that because happy and content people don't act like that. I feel sorry for him if anything.
Hi Josh et all! I had to deal with an American (1st time hire boater) who stomped up to me at the lock at Welsh Lane (?) after I secured my boat, opened the gate before he got off his boat then while I was heading back to take my boat in he insisted he was there 1st (with lock in my favour). Being a solo boater I tried to explain how locks work but HE just didn't understand how saving lock water works. After 10 minutes he backed down but I really didn't like the confrontation. After that there was confrontation at the staircase lock from a boat I was travelling with who just couldn't understand the shuffle to save water! I just kept calm laughing at the stupidity of cc'rs and hireboaters wrath! Lovely to see the footage you did of this trip to remind me of what a blast I had on this stretch! Well done Josh for getting your drone back, I take my hat off to you all for persevering! xx L&R
Lucy. Josh is very determined when he does something as you know when he was getting the tiller back. It's such a shame as 80 percent of the people on boats are lovely but you get the odd one that ruins it for everyone and ruins your day. I just try and keep smiling ❤😊
So glad you got your drone down. Ok too. Isn’t it strange you can have 99 really nice people and then along comes one who is not quite so nice or in your case two. Never mind Josh. You have all your lovely family and now a new little nephew and niece. And the cats. And the summer and lots of barbecues. 🐈🐈⬛🐈⬛🐈🐈⬛🐈
Wow so exciting this week guys sometimes I have found it hard if the lock has a low bridge on exit to see if a boat is coming wanting to come up At once I had just shut the lower gates and set off When a boat came round a bend when a man with a face like a sack of spanners !! Said hey why didn't you leave the gates open I said I didn't know you were coming some people 😳 But that must have scared the hire boat crew !!
Best news I heard all day, Diane making hot dog rolls outta burger rolls ;) but seriously, glad you retrieved your drone Josh! Nice to see Andy back, what with the lock rage incident, this ones got ALL the drama!

I'm a confrontational aggressive sort but when I took 2 weeks on the canals I found it was like liquid valium and my daughters commented that I hadn't snapped once at anyone, maybe the canals frighten this bloke
Parents with young children cycling are starting to avoid canal tow paths for safety which is why many are becoming a little overgrown in places. (Plus less tow ponies now obviously)
So the etiquette goes, it's not who gets to the lock first, who gets to go through first. It's to whoever the lock is in favour of. So if you're going up and the lock is empty, meaning no water in it, that means it's on our side. Therefore, we get to use the lock first. However, the lock was full up, meaning it was against us. I've noticed a couple of times now, Josh, I've gone to add to a part comment I've made and all comments have disappeared from the page. If this is happening to others that are commenting on your page you might be losing comments.
I took a new boater or on a trip specifically to teach her how to operate a lock. Another boater lost his rag when I asked him to NOT help with the lock as otherwise the point of the trip would have been completely lost. I guess he was in a hurry, which isn't something anyone should be on the canals.
The case of the two egos! 😂 I can't help but think there are better ways to deal with ignorant tourists. Do not antagonise them or let your ego control your actions. It is best to calmly educate them in a friendly manner with a smile on your face. It is hard for anyone to get angry or defensive when you treat them so friendly and they will be more willing to learn. Yes this is hard when they are in the wrong but they probably don't know or understand the etiquette. They don't know that they've done something wrong so If you confront them in a condescending or accusing manner this will just make them respond badly, then the situation will escalate like this. Try to remember just because you are a regular or live on the canals you do not own them or have any more power or rights than tourists. Some tourists will just flat out choose not respect the etiquette and you just have to accept that they don't have to and still have a right to use the canal. You'll just have to wait a little longer, hey ho that's life. It really isn't worth getting into a physical fight as a grown man in such a nice, calm, setting. 😂
I will just remind you that this wasn't us getting into a fight it was the people sharing the lock with us and I am very much like you. If you watch us you will know I am a very smiley person and try to keep everyone happy with a smile and good morning but not everyone is like me. I always try to look on the bright side of everything. Kind regards Diane 😊
Always remember that these canals were dug by hand with effort and sweat. They’re full of good will, bestowed by people with a different set of values where hard work and effort deservedly generated respect for what they achieved. Arguing over ‘imagined rights of way’ by people who generations later chose to ignore the sacrifices and effort endured by previous generations is completely disrespectful to them and their effort. Every brick and every turn of the canal is entirely due to their perseverance. I ‘take off my hat’ to them and revere their skills and work ethic. Present day squabbles disappear into irrelevant niggles, as a consequence of the modern concept of ‘entitlement’.

Funny I've travelled a fair bit on the canals this year ( until stoppages p'd me off) and haven't found any conflict or issue, hire boaters and new boaters do need help at times, some are out there with no clue, it's OK, no need to argue, being polite and friendly, not condescending is the way to go, it's OK to not understand and a regular boater is not someone clever! Just more experienced !

Maybe watch someone else with comments like that. Not everyone is smiley like me and Josh does have social anxiety. (Diane)
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat Why? You speak good English. You enjoy your selves. Your photography is good. You are and have learned to Edit and play good music. Why would I can You? Yeah get it we all suffer from some kind of back trauma and so on but unless we are challenged we stop growing.
Josh is definitely not “dead pan”!
He studied media and works extremely hard to produce his quality vlogs !
Having met the Taylor’s numerous times they are very well spoken, and canal life can be stressful at times 😊
Diane will second that he smiles through thick and thin, is resilient to pressure and we enjoy his intellectual conversations 🦅
RUDE !!
@@bromptinowner763 He's pretty talented though, don't you think?
And I thought the canals were tranquil boring places. !
