- Today I talk to my little brother who is in the 82nd Airborne about his 2+ years in the barracks. As you transition from AIT to "Big Army" this will give you a general idea of what to expect in the barracks.

Deployed with 3rd brigade of the 82nd right now, never thought I would say this but I can't wait to get back to the barracks lol
I hope you will be ok
Austen Richardson H-MINUS
E4 and below don’t do CQ or staff duty but they can be used as “runners” for the NCO on duty.
I would have thought 82nd airborne would be much more regimented with the duties. I was in an army medical unit. I was required to have CQ, duty driver and barracks maintenance on a regular scheduled basis. You really lucked out for sure.
Me too main reason i left the Army
Your videos are really helping me get ready to leave for BCT. The RASP video had me rethinking my decision about it though. Can’t wait for more videos!!
I FREAKIN LOVE YOUR VIDEOS MATT!!!
haha Thank you!!!!
I love your video's more than that guy down below. Also thank you both for your service! I cant wait to be in!
Going to fort Bragg in less then 2 weeks. The video was helpful. Thank you!
How do you like it?
My daughter is station at Ft. Bragg and has been there since she graduated from AIT in December 2018.
Ship to Fort Benning Oct 21st, I’ve been watching every video it’s been a huge help!
Congrats man
SkyZero
Start practicing long walks with a heavy backpack while wearing boots.
Blisters during basic suck ass.
Shawn?
Same bro, except fort Leonard I think
What mos do I need for a dorm in the army?
This was very informative
I’m late to the party because RUclips recommended this video today. In 2012, when I was a Bn XO in an AIT unit, we talked about the Army changing the open bay barracks to a two man “college” dorm room, and renovations began. The Drill Sergeants were replaced with Cadre who basically acted like a squad leader/platoon sergeant to prepare the AIT recruits for their permanent duty station. When I was enlisted, AIT barracks were opened bay with your entire platoon; and the Drill Sergeants stayed nearby in rotation. My permanent duty stations were all 3 man rooms with your locker, bunk, desk, and one bathroom. Boy!!! Times have changed, and Soldiers are really spoiled. I know my grandfathers had a rougher time in the Army than me; so that’s the trend. The Army gets more relaxed every generation. Soon, we’ll be like the French Army.
I was at Bragg in the early 90’s. Sure we had a CQ but……it was a party on the weekends and it was nothing to walk in the open bay showers and shower on Saturday and Sunday mornings with an odd collection of college girls from Raleigh and strippers. 😂
Can t be like the french army kid. You don t have the IQ.
I wanted to serve in the Army for the past 5 years. RAIDER commander in JROTC, high ASVAB, perfect PT score. Was going to be a Cav. Scout but I was just permanently medically disqualified for a peanut allergy. I’d honestly do anything to be able to serve.
But regardless of all that, I’d like to thank you for all the helpful and useful information you have provided me with through your videos the past few years, even if I never get to apply it. Keep doing what you’re doing, the videos you make help so many people prep for BCT and more.
Go to an allergist and do a food challenge. if you can eat peanuts without having to use an epi pen, you can get a waiver. but the reason you’re barred is because you might be in a situation where the only food source you have is something you’re allergic to.
Resonant Reads thanks for the suggestion. But I fully know the situation I’m in. I went to my allergist and had my test done and was still allergic to peanuts (not peanut oil though which is what they cook with at BCT) I could still apply for my waiver being that peanut oil is a bigger concern but it’s HIGHLY likely of getting declined.
Rex Cristallo Spada CT- 3981 don’t give up, I know soldiers who have fought for years to get the waivers required to enlist. if you wanna join there’s probably a way
unless you're gay (no hate) you lucked out, it's the only benefit of being cav
Resonant Reads thanks for the support, and yeah I’m still looking into options and ways around this problem
Hey, in station in fort Bragg as well... 82nd CAB!!!
Those rooms are awesome compared to our barracks we had!!! I would almost enlist just for that apartment!!!
Yes I remember two man room that we had while I was at Bragg. No Kitchen, and community bathroom.
Stationed at bragg as well apart of 30esc, barracks life as well, would love to meet the two of you.
Dude. How the hell did I find you here????
LEGGGGGGGG
watching this from my room at Fort Bragg🥴 82nd 2BCT 407th BSB.
hahaha
Prayers for safety for him if he's getting deployed to middle East this week
Born and raised on Bragg in the 80's. Dad was 82nd. We lived in Bougainville now renamed. Fatal vision duplex nearby, MP's always yelling at us to stop peeking into the murder house.
Your brother was with my guys at the combatives school last week. I’m stationed here too. Airborne 🇺🇸
Nice, yeah I'd like to do combatives soon there myself
Thank youuuuu!
You're welcome :)
Just finished infantry training graduating in 16 days going to airborne then fort brag thanks for the video
How is it
i was on bragg in the 80s when we had the old wooden barracks, they were just then building new barracks
Let's link up on some motivation and car club culture!!!! Hobbies are really good for our young Soldiers!
I’m in 19D ait right now a got told yesterday that I got an airborne slot. I actually got my orders changed to fort Bragg
I ship out November 12th as 15W , im kinda excited haha
Do sgts have their own room? As in no roommates. For Marines that's how it works, just wondering how different it is in the army for ncos
if i feel like school isn’t for me should i consider going to the army? i have little knowledge about the army tho lol.
I lived at Bragg for a couple of years. Lived on the corner of AA Freeway and Gruber Rd.
ol smokebomb hill?
@@millywerz Lima Charlie!!!!
We do payday activities last friday of the month
Hey Matt you should come to dc and let’s do an interview about Joint Base Myer- Henderson Hall! Tell the new people what it’s like to be an infantryman in the oldest US Infantry Regiment!
PCS’ing to Bragg after AIT, what unit is your brother with?
Living in the barracks is cool af
Just got in the Barracks but my dad told me they come knock on the door if you are the one they catch you are on CQ/staff duty
I leave for army basic on October 6th. I’ve been watching a lot of your videos to inform me and motivate me. This is probably gonna be the hardest thing I’ve done in my life. I hope I make it.
Cobra Gaming it’s the easiest thing you’ll do well you’re already at reception so you won’t even see this.
You make it?
Andy yea I’m in the 82nd airborne infantry
Death Realm nails mate well done!!
Andy thank you
Geez you guys don't know how good you have it, back in the day was nothing like this!! NOTHING!
We had two beds and two lockers, that was about it.
Leaving for osut in November, 11b national guard.. I wish I went active duty tho :( but love the videos Matt! Keep up the good work!
Dylan Firestone You going early or late November?
Zion Eagle November 11th to fort benning 🤙🏼
Dylan Firestone Oh awesome, I’ll be shipping out November 5th.
Get ready to be cold. All good though makes you tough. 11Ball the way
Croft Howley Ha, I actually really prefer cold over heat. I’ve worked in negative temperatures before, so I’m used to it.
I found your page, assumed you were Active but recently found out you were a Reservist. I do appreciate the fact that you don't claim to know about Army lifestyle but act more as an interviewer in this video. I believe that no amount of researching or asking friends will ever give someone the experience or credibility to talk about Active Duty lifestyle if they have never lived it personally.
Is it better to go to Airborne school right after OSUT or to wait ?
82nd ABN, 1BCT 1-504 PIR soldier here. Good luck to you, it's not easy being airborne. Those barracks are really nice, I assume you live down the hill? Our barracks are so bad.
wow that sucks, want to get BAH?
@@dingalingdong7144 I'm dying haha
Can you make a video about post-Army life? My uncle is trying to get me to join the Air Force cause I will "end up homeless" after the Army
Me & my husband live here on bragg lol so weird this video popped up
Lol
Barracks girls were are some of the funniest stories my dad has told me
Shipping to fort Benign next month on the 25 !!
Graduate tomorrow 👌👌👌
Just finished AIT and I’m gonna be 2BCT Black Falcon at Fort Bragg! I’m excited!
Yo I'm 2nd brigade, golden griffins, 407th
I wonder how different things are now due to covid. I'm in ait and will go to airborne school in fort benning and then Fort Bragg 82nd. So I'm curious to know what it's like now.
Things are slowly going back to normal, a lot of the times we don't wear our masks
I’m preparing for basic now I leave for fort Jackson Nov 12th
You're gonna be on the DA 6 now! You jinxed yourself bro
Wow looks like a country club compared to barracks in the 80's
wooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!
Yeahh!!
This is nothing like I had when I lived in the barracks.
My baby is 82nd airborne... I'm just in awwww in what they do... Hoorah...
Hooah. Hoorah is marines
I'm here on bragg since 2017 sup not in the barracks though
Very similar to the ADA barracks at Bragg.
E5 and below - no exceptions for E5 with a certain title?
Hey MATT can you do a video about tour of duty
I’m at Fort Bragg too but I’m in 44th Meds barracks. It’s not awful
What's life like for an infantryman in the 82nd? Is it toxic?
I probably ran across your brother at some point, if he ever needed to get immunizations or blood draws done, I most likely was one of the medics who did it🤘🏻
Or me. Lol Just finished my rotation at the SRC
I'm stationed at bragg what's your brothers MOS planned on reclassing and had some questions
EpicPanda TV 13w
His brothers a 13F forward observer
Ship out in 5 days ! Oct 7th. 25 uniform
Hey Matt and folks. I am 28, have a GED and recently started my process and have taken the pretest and scored 119-50 and am physically fit.
But I forgot to tell my recruiter that I had a THC possession charge a few years back that I went on probation for and did counseling, community service and drug classes to get it expunged, which It did. I am going to tell him on Tuesday when I go back with my paperwork but I'm afraid I've really screwed up here and they won't take me...any advice on how to proceed or what to expect? I appreciate any replies from you or anyone that has actual experience with this...
if you got it expunged you dont have to tell him
plus if its expunged he can't do anything. because my csm (im in JROTC) she said that if you had any weed related charge you cant ever join but good thing you've got ir expunged
AngeloIppis42
Ask your recruiter if they find out about expunged records.
If he asks what, say something minor that would get you automatically DQd. Recruiters are trying to help you out with shipping you out.
They gotta hit their numbers, so they’ll do their best to get you in green light territory.
Background checks are done, and expunged records don’t always mean police/military checks won’t find then. Check with your recruiter without giving all the details
Ship the 15th thanks for the vids
What base are you headed to? I leave the 15th to fort sill!
Joe gordon fort Benning. Going 11x hopefully 11b
How long to become E6 please
Were there a lot of nut checking and nurpling? 🤔😄
MP barracks are pretty nice at least here in Germany 😁
What is cq
does his brother have a RUclips channel
I'm 18x contract going to Fort Benning Oct 15th. Woohoo
Good luck. Long road. Did the same thing and graduated 8/88. Long time ago
What mos is he
Matt what if you get sick at basic training
G o o g l e
I was sick as hell in basic, couldn't even talk. I sucked it up, and it passed.
What brigade ?
Gee, Matt how many brothers you have in military? Lol 😂
3SFG barrecks suck so much, we don’t even got hot plates :(
Do older recruits get harassed more, say someone between ages of 24-30, at boot camp or OCS, I was told by a relative, that you should never join pass 23, enlisted or officer, because the other recruits and drill sergeants will harassed more and be "outcasted", is there any truth to that?
No
If you're so worried about this you should not join the military.
bro it's fucking 9 weeks, if you're the oldest one there then the worst that happens is you get put in charge of a bunch of basically high schoolers. Get over your bullshit fears if it's something you actually want, being an outcast for 9 weeks by people you'll never see again is nothing compared to the Big Green Weenie
Can’t wait I leave OCT 15th to become an active duty Army Firefighter
Darrin you got lucky ? I was trying to go as 12M too but I’ve always heard there’s a super low chance people get it
Yeah I enlisted in April and there was only 3 slots in the entire Army including my slot when I signed
My recruiter said the day before don’t even think about Firefighter it never comes up and the next day I had it available . I think I used up my luck for the next 10 years lol they told me even an hour later and it would have been taken
Darrin damn well I hope you enjoy it bro ! Good luck on everything
Thanks man , also the Air Force has lots more firefighters than the army you might have a chance if you try the Airforce
Infantry barracks at 1/87 IN, 10th Mtn Div were NOTHING like this. Lmao.
I only have 26 days left in the U.S. Army IRR.
I thought E5 still live in the barracks but they don't have a roommate
Was there 1973 wow,,unbelieveable,,
Just found out my duty station is fort Bragg airborne life
I'm a mp on Fort Bragg! I bet your brother seen me in action
Im an MP on bragg as well
why would you brag about that
Jeremy Lovins
lol
He cant take pride in what he does?
3 BCT Barracks aren't too bad
you live like kings compaired to fort hood in 1982 16x20 room 3 lockers desks 1 single bed 1 bunk

gomer pile housing with 12 guys latrine was 50 yards away in winter i showrd in 25 sec
Do the same facial hair regulations go for you guys in the reserves too? Id like to do reserves and be a realtor on the side, but I wanna keep my goatee for that.
yeah i also want to serve my country but I don't want to lose my goatee one weekend a month, great question
Jeremy Lovins yeah bro I hate to say it’s a deal breaker but for me it’s a pretty big deal for me at least.
@@Who2Rawww don't worry, I'm sure it's a deal breaker for all the women you meet too
E Bank If losing your facial hair for serving our country is a deal breaker you don’t belong in the Military sorry , not sorry.
Broken Ghost does that mean I belong in realty then ? Lol
Hey Matt I had a question. So I’m currently in AIT as a 14P. I received an article 15 due to a health and wellness (contraband found in my room) (juul vape) and it’s been a month since this exactly, I haven’t received any kind of punishment haven’t even been given a reading yet. But I already graduated and I’m stuck here until I receive whatever. But I signed a flag counsel, and I was wondering if there’s a certain time frame you have to be punished in, if so , if no punishment is given is it possible to be unflagged? And the article 15 dropped? I just wanna go home ha
it's ok, you'll get home and realize it sucks too but they take their time with UCMJ because, believe it or not, you're not the only one on Fort Sill getting an article 15 and there's a lot of paperwork involved. The work you're doing there is easy, you know what time you're getting off every day, and it's time off your contract so even though it seems like it sucks, be thankful. Think of it this way, your leave has to get approved for the holidays now so at least you can be with your family on Christmas.
Save your money and take advantage of the fact that you legally can't smoke/vape so it's easy to quit now, you won't regret it.
How are you doing, Lieutenant?
I miss it I've been out since 2013
I'm in the 82nd and my barracks definitely does not look like that. My barracks is crap
What's the alcohol policy
You can have it
you become an alcoholic in your first 6 months at your duty station or else you'll have no friends
Live on bragg barracks are nothing like your brothers have a open room with a roommate and no kitchen area
Actually you're wrong. You must be at the sorry ass 1st Brigade Barracks, These specific barracks are mostly alll 3rd Brigade, I think 2nd Brigade probably has the best setup when it comes to rooming. 3rd's are pretty nice too. But those shared Barracks are an anomaly, haha poor dudes.
I’m going to fort Bragg I’m looking to be airborne when I get there I just wanted to know what unit do you think I’m gonna get assigned to because I feel like the 82nd is airborne exclusive only. Im a PFC and I’m a 91b without airborne
My loved one was 82nd airborne.
Lost his life to ptsd. Im so sad about it
Kinda jealous, in British Barracks we have to share a kitchen with like 6-7 other people.
I swear I seen ya around here
I’m in 2ND brigade
International court of justice
82nd 122asb
Bro my cousin is in the 82nd!
Nice!
Matt Ward Thx for responding! He doesn’t live in the barracks though.
What is bct.
Basic combat training
Brigade combat team
What are living situations like for officers on base?
They get houses on base or BAH and live off base.
