"Vending machine theology" and "Me-ology" are two of my new favorite phrases. I had heard this approach described as "treating God like a sky Santa" but that's even more precise and powerful. And I LOVE the Scripture citations that you have started including on the screen. Preach, girl, you've got a gift!

Good point. I think one problem within the more evangelical Churches is their denigration of theology.
As Christians, lets take God's revelation on faith. However, the thought that you don't need thought makes people vulnerable to all kinds of teaching: "If it feel good and there are enough scriptures supporting it then it must be true".
The fact is, unthoughtful reading of the bible can lead to all kinds of cultish and harmful doctrines.
Revelation is not so obvious that you can read the bible like a simple instruction manual.
This is why we have teachers, this is why we are told to use discernment, to test, to have wisdom, etc.
Some within evangelicalism think this all means reading your bible more.
Committed Bible reading Christians have been led into all sorts of crazy things.
This is the value of theology. It's not about vain intellectual glory (although it can become that). It's about using the faculties God gave you so you can better understand the message.
It enriches faith rather than replaces it.

Early in my Christian walk, while dealing with medical issues that still continue today, I was crying out to God in prayer. I asked Him why He wouldn’t heal me. I heard His still small voice in my spirit asking me, “If I never heal you on earth, will you still love Me? Will you still serve Me? That was all I needed to hear to accept God’s will. I’ve learned so much along the way. I do want to point out that I was going to a church at that time. I asked for prayer on endurance bc I was in a lot of physical pain. I was asked by the elder if I believed God could heal me. He went on to tell me not to acknowledge any physical pain and just claim that I was healed. So many well-intentioned Christians have approached me the same way over the years. I went to God in prayer, asking Him how to respond. He told me to tell them that “my times are in His hands.” Later on, while reading Ps. 31:14-15 I came across those same words. It’s been freeing to give God control over my life. Thank you for speaking on such an important topic. You nailed the truth!! God bless you.

@@hiddeninjesus4819 Nice to meet you. The verse you mentioned about His stripes…you are using it out of context. You are cherry picking one verse instead of looking at it as a whole. 1 Peter 2:24-25 says, “who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness - by whose stripes you were healed. For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” Nowhere in that passage does it indicate physical healing and that’s because that entire passage has to do with being saved from our sins (spiritual). @@hiddeninjesus4819 I believe with all my being that God can heal me. All He has to do is say the word, and it’s done. Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, even though I know my God is able to heal me, if He doesn’t while I’m on earth, I will still only serve Him. And like the example of my Lord and Savior, who prayed for His Father to remove the cup that was to come, He also prayed that the Father’s will would be done and not His. That’s been my prayer - for God to heal me physically yet not my will but His will be done. God doesn’t promise to physically heal every one of His children on earth, and I eagerly look forward to the promise of eternity where all suffering shall cease. I feel sadness that you’re having such a difficult time grasping this. Just know that I’m blessed. Praying God’s blessings on you and yours.

I watched your video twice. I am having a hard time understanding your message. Gothard was promoting strict legalism. That is similar to what I encountered attending a strict Fundamentalist Baptist School. However my dad listened to the Copeland's, Robert Tilton, and a few others who preached the "prosperity" gospel. I do believe the Copeland's are sincere. After hurricane Katrina their ministry was quietly sending funds straight to non profits to help people. Many of the other "ministries" only sent help if they could get publicity out of it.
In my view, there are many differences between the two. Legalism does teach that God blesses if you follow a very strict set of rules. Also it is taught that if you break any of those rules you loose your salvation. The rules were endless. Prosperity gospel at the extreme teaches that you just name it and claim it and sow a seed with faith God will give you whatever you want. I heard very little about obedience and repentance.
Here is what I believe. We need the law to show us that we are sinners desperately in need of Jesus. His death on the cross was the final payment for our sins. We do need to confess when we have failed. It keeps our hearts pure and holy. I also believe that it is okay to ask God for things you want. It doesn't mean you will get them. But you also need to be asking Him to align your heart, will, and desires with His. As you allow the Holy Spirit to do the work in you, the more you will want Him and to further His kingdom here on earth.

I will say that I have never watch the duggars show and only am vaguely aware of it because of media. I have no idea what their biblical beliefs were. My understanding of the prosperity teaching has nothing to with our works and everything about the cross. Because of Jesus we no longer live under the curse of the law but share in the blessings of Abraham. Jesus himself said the father in heaven knows how to give his children good gifts (I am paraphrasing) The father in Heaven knows what we need and will provide for us. I do believe in paying tithes because it is important that we support the spread of the gospel and lets face it without money it is more difficult to do that. The one scripture in the Bible (that I am aware of) where God actually says to test him has to do with paying tithes. To me, that is my understanding of the prosperity teaching, pay tithes and be blessed but don’t pay the tithes just for the blessing. Pay the tithes to support the sharing of what Jesus has done for us and God will bless you for it. (Hopefully that makes sense) I know the Copelands do teach on prosperity but that is not the only topic they teach on. One of my favorite series are some videos teaching on the last super that I found to be very helpful when understanding the importance of the last supper, the new covenant and the importance for us to take communion. When you take communion it is all about the Cross, it is remembering what Jesus has done for us and the new covenant that we have with God.

Certain things may be off regarding a lot of teaching with the prosperity gospel, but it is true. God prospers us, especially when we live according to his will. All throughout the word we see God blessing his people who obeyed him. Paul says in Romans 8:28 that all things work for good to those who love God and are called, and in 2Corinthiajs 2:14 about always triumphing in Christ. Jesus said in Mathew 6 that if you seek first the kingdom, then your needs will be added to you. So all of that is being in prosperity. Being prosperous doesn’t mean you won’t go through things or suffer, but you know that God will help you through your sufferings and turn and work everything for good.

@@jean-pierreetdaniellegoyet4764 The different amounts Jesus said was in regards to their own ability, it’s not God saying I’m gonna give one this amount just because I want to, it’s based on the person and what God knows they can handle. Like a person strong in faith towards God can receive more from him because of that , rather than someone who lacks it. It’s like James saying a double minded person won’t receive anything from God, so a person who isn’t double minded will receive from God because they have full trust in him.

Did you read up on how a lot of apostles ended up?
Prosperity gospel totally ignores that Paul was writing a bunch of his stuff from Jail, Jail that the holy spirit mentioned to him before... He didn't go, "get there behind me Satan,, God wants the best for us at all times).
Timothy is written whilst he was in jail, before his execution, which he mentions.
Paul says he's had seasons of little and seasons of plenty, he wouldn't he say being right with God means your life always looks good, your health is amazing and so on.
Timothy has frequent illnesses, Paul told him to drink wine, and didn't tell him to claim, name and demand his health and wealth because that's what God wants.
There's a point where prosperity gospel just becomes insensitive and souless, we start telling the poor, the ill and the down trodden that they are where they are because that want to be there, because they're not demanding their healing, they're not having enough faith. They've all become Job's friends, they've become Hymenaeus and Philetus who claimed resurrection had already happened, meaning the promises like incorruptible bodies that will see no illnesses (many claims the prosperity only theology makes) are already here, DESTROYING the faith of some. Paul says that.

I didn’t realize how much I made the Bible about me and centered around me. It was definitely not about Him. None of these preachers share the true gospel… that we are sinners in need of a savior. Jesus didn’t come here to bring us wealth and abundance… but eternal life! All the pastors I followed for a long time never preached this. this is all we can say unto those false teachers of prosperity gospel "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves"

A month ago i watched "Christ Alone The American Gospel" an it blew my mind, i thought i could tell the difference between prosperity gospel an boy i was SO WRONG. Being a baby christian that's all I'd hear in any churches i went to but then i started getting hungry for more God centered an saw my step dad watching Voddie Baucham an i loved it but i still wasn't understanding what it meant to live a prosperous life, i was heavily rooted in new ageism for a while an although God removed many things from my life the "law of attraction mind set" has ultimately been very difficult to let go of but since that movie i now understand the true fullness of God an to suffer for him in any account's its such great joy 😊❤

After half a year praying and seeking God, God spoke to me in an audible voice to declare my Major as Math. It was the only time that God spoke to me in an audible voice. 2 Years later the Prosperity Church I attended tried to force me to drop out of the University and marry the Pastor's daughter. They told me that the education was worldly and I did not need it. I averaged around 37 dollars an hour and invested in Real Estate and have a net worth of millions. Where would I be today if I followed the Poverty Movement (You cannot call a church that only believes in tithing a prosperity Church).
I have had pastors tell me that the rich man that went to hell in Luke 16:19-31 was a sinner. But in the parable Abraham tells the rich man that his brothers have Moses and the Prophets, to hear them. Who has Moses and the Prophets but Jewish Men? The rich man was a Jew, he paid his tithes and prospered, but went to Hell. Tithing does not make you holy. Many are called but few are chosen.
In Luke 16:25 in Jesus parable, Abraham said that the rich man received his good things. How did he receive them? Getting skilled. Abraham was skilled with cow farming, Jacob skilled in sheep farming, Isaac skilled in agriculture, Joseph skilled in economics in Egypt, Jesus a Carpenter. All of them spent decades developing their skills. God gives the “ability” but you have to be diligent to develop your skills. I have seen Churches discourage some people when their career choices don’t follow their desires but you must be guided of God (1 John 2:27). According to James 1:5 God wants to give you wisdom in abundance.

I absolutely LOVED this video! You always point out the false doctrine and teaching by certain pastors in such a loving way. My only thing that you said that you lost me on was when you were talking about Jinger’s book and about Gothard’s teachings (which I’m completely against his teachings) but you said “…while it’s good to dress modestly, those aren’t ultimate rules that we should add to the Bible.” But dressing modestly is in fact a biblical command given to us by God through Paul. It doesn’t say women must wear skirts only, I believe that’s based off of a woman’s personal conviction that’s strictly between her and the Lord, but modesty is in fact a “rule” that’s already in scripture. I do believe that modesty is most importantly a heart issue that lies in the representation of our works and lifestyle, but also in how we dress as well. I hope all that made sense! I do want to add that I don’t believe that if you dress modestly then you’ll get whatever you pray for from that. That “vending machine” theology (I’m totally going to be using that term from now on btw!😂) isn’t truth. It’s just a part of living a holy lifestyle and being set apart from the world as a follower of Christ!🤍

My late husband, our sons, and of course, I, were in Basic Life back in the 90s. It was expensive, though we liked the curriculum. But, roughly, $600 a person, including Mom and Dad, was beyond our means. When we tried to un-enroll, we were sent a book about George Muller, and were told to read it, and have faith. I wrote back, thanked them for the book (really like George Muller!), and told them the Lord shut every single doorway we needed to cross through right in our faces. We had one "No" after another from God; enough Noes to get the hint. The Lord didn't want us in IBLP anymore.
They wrote back and said after we had some time off, we were welcome to return, and that God would bless us by increasing our faith. 🤦🤦🤦🤦
We never went back. We bought curriculum, and continued that year by ourselves. When our two sons found out, they celebrated. They didn't like IBLP. They thought it was too intrusive; Basic Life had to control everything. I think the biggest change was that Basic Life was gone, and the Lord Jesus was back at the center of our family. Sorry this was so long-winded!
    The Lord bless you.

Dang woman, you did it again! I keep watching your videos and talking back to you about all of the things I do/say that you're talking about. The Duggars - me too! lol, I grew up thinking so much of them because what I saw was people who loved God, had children because they refused to practice any sort of birth control (lol, I remember an interview once where Michelle said that every time Jim Bob laid his pants on the bed she got pregnant). I knew they didn't have debt and that they paid for everything they had, outside of any donations that may have been given to them. I've heard stuff coming out about the family over the last decade-ish but I haven't followed up with any of it and couldn't tell you if any, or all, of it is true. I grew up in Mesquite, probably not much older than you.
This past Sunday night I rode to church with a neighbor because I didn't feel good and didn't feel like driving. I've been to that church multiple times and, other than it just not fitting, I couldn't really tell you why. Until Sunday. They said tonight's bible study we're going to watch a short video from "Brother Kenneth Copeland" and my alarm bells went off. I quietly excused myself to my neighbors and went and sat in the car until church was dismissed. Now I know why my spirit just wasn't at ease in that church but I couldn't have pointed to any one sermon they gave that would indicate it wasn't biblical. I won't be back and I'm definitely going to pay closer attention going forward!
So, again, I'm nodding and agreeing with you throughout your videos. I wish I knew you because I adore the heck out of you!

Great video. I lived in the same town as Joyce Meyer. As a matter of fact we both went to same church, sat under same preacher before she was Joyce Meyer. In the late 80s early 90s that prosperity preaching was hitting. When you live in a town that has an influential worldwide preacher the majority of those churches in that town will preach it the same thing she's preaching. You can't hide from it. I had to leave my church because I disagreed with this with my whole heart and they were telling me I was wrong. I lived in Fenton MO down the street of her headquarters. She dominated everywhere there. SMH it's so sad.

I attended a church for a few years and this is how it was as well,. Then he got bolder and wanted to see that we tithed enough with our taxes. Everyone was to hand them in so that he could tell you how much to pay every 2 weeks. He wrote books, had sermons on DVD and would openly say..... I can't help if i like nice things. He claimed the pandemic was a hoax, told the church not to vaccinate, constantly broke the law with services and went to court to fight them. If he got fined, the church paid it. He never believed covid at all..... sadly he passed away shortly before Christmas and the family nor church will say what it was. I can take a good guess though. That church brought in 4.9 million a year!!!

I never realized that this is what it was, but I knew that I did not like the messages that these 2 preachers were preaching. I do have a question if you wouldn't mind addressing? What do you think about Joyce Meyers and would you say that her principles and teaching are more biblically based or more towards the prosperity line? Thank you for all that you do for us and getting the word of the Lord out.

I enjoy watching sports, enough that I schedule games in my planner. ☺️ I struggle with watching athletes hit a homerun or score a touchdown and gesture and look to heaven in celebration. On one side I appreciate their acknowledgement of God while on the other I cringe with idea they are conveying He blessed them by giving them a touchdown. It’s taken me years to try to turn from judging what they do and just say a quick mental prayer that their heart is right and gesturing for the right reason. This topic is close to my heart unfortunately.

This is how became saved. I followed all of them Kenneth, Crefflo, Jessie, and Fred Price. I had to turn away because I didn't see if this was truly helping me grow closer to God. my life was falling apart. My ex husband however became very wealthy and I have seen the Lord bless him over and over and over still to this day. So at times I am conflicted and wonder if I should go back to following them and I am not seeing all that God can do. You are honestly the first person I have heard say these teachings are wrong. I was never sure because the congregation was prospering. I always felt like I was in the background wondering what is really going on here? or is the enemy just playing with my head.

I didn’t come to Christ so I could get material wealth. The prosperity gospel cheapens the salvation message of the cross.
