    Welcome to our channel. All the weapon systems are like books. They tell us their stories. The Weapon Detective investigates these books, reads between the lines, analyse, and tells the untold. At the dawn of the Second Cold War, the fruits of new projects give us clues about the future. But current weapon systems also have their own stories. You can find in our videos technical information, historical backgrounds, what happened during the development processes, combat experience and political projection. Let's investigate the weapons together when the Second Cold War is rising.

    One thing to note is that the A-400M is the one of only 2 large Western airlifter, the other is the Japanese C-2, currently being built as the C-17 went out of production in 2015... so it pretty much has the market to itself unless the Japanese C-2 is partnered up with a 2nd party firm to help them sell it on the open market...

    • @SYNtemp
      @SYNtemp 9 месяцев назад +1

      The Japanese until now didn't even try to sell the C-2 to foreigner customers... which is a bit pity, since it is quite high-capacity (allmost any vehicle inclusive most tanks) and range, but still only two-engine (thus better economy) transport jet...
      Turboprops like A-400M generally provide better STOL/dirt strips performance than jets, and among those he is by far the largest one (and also, still in production).

    The problem is that it is larger than a C-130 and smaller than a C-17 and thus falls between operational/theater lift and strategic lift. Building the A400M was a political decision for economic reasons.

    • @andrewday3206
      @andrewday3206 8 месяцев назад +4

      It gives much greater capacity to locations where the C-130 is too small. It was not a political decision but rather a modern update to the C-130

    • @MrBahjatt
      @MrBahjatt 8 месяцев назад +1

      Early renders of the A400M showed two turbofan engines but this did not pan out. The decision was industrial and political, Europe now has a good transport aircraft and it is slowly making sales. Malaysia ordered four, Indonesia will order four, Kazakhstan will order two and these will likely bump up in the coming years.

    I was a little irritated by the democratic weapons procurement part.
    My thought is: the US has the funds to pay for a programme alone and if someone else buys it, than that's nice. Individual countries in the EU do simply not really possess those funds and thus don't have the option to build 100% what they want. But it is still better to build something, than not to do so imo.

    It's a tough fight currently between the A400M, C-390 and the C-130J in international markets. It's a great competition for all to see, we should pay attention to the Indian, Angolan, Egyptian, biddings currently open. American powerful lobbying got the C-130J Australia and Sweeden. C-390 pricing and superior capabilities won the Netherlands, Hungary and Portugal. And the A400M having many countries involved in its development made sure it would be born with lots of orders.

    • @henryquecabral9357
      @henryquecabral9357 9 месяцев назад

      @@8000jk Yes, india bought the C-130J for it's special forces, the information we have is that they were needed fast due to their fleet of Il-76 being in desperate need of replacement and C-130J was the one that could be delivered quicker, given that neither the A400M or the C-390 are available for a quick-of-the-shelf purchase.
      But now India intends to buy a definite replacement for it's Il-76 (they have 12 C-130J and 26 Il-76, but we don't know how many are still operational, reports vary between 10~15).
      So now India, is in the market, they showed not much interest in expanding it's fleet of C-130J, for strategic and operational reasons. So it's up to the C-390 and A400M.

      @@8000jkIndia acquired 12 C-130J Super Hercules more or less as a result of the Indo-US nuclear deal.
      Adjusting for inflation, C130J cost north of $200 million and can only carry about 20 tons of cargo, now compare that to Airbus A400M which costs roughly similar but can carry 37 tons of cargo.
      Also, Airbus in partnership with Tata is going to be license producing 40 out of the 56 Airbus C-295 ordered by the IAF, a number which is expected to swell north of 150 units once IAF decides to retire its 104 strong fleet of Antonov An-32 transport aircraft.
      The Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard have also planned on acquiring a custom-built Maritime patrol variant of the C-295 totaling to 15 units.

    This is the most advanced cargo plane ever made. The engines specs alone leave me speechless. They’re the most advanced turbo prop engines ever. Period. Full stop. The engine monitoring system has 270,000 lines of code ALONE! Everyone should go read the wiki page on this plane and it’s engines as well as all of the different manufacturers press releases and product brochures. It will blow you away.
