  • The Best Compilation On RUclips - Beaver Dams Removal With Excavator
    📝Basic information:
    Location: Poland
About my work - I remove beaver dams when I receive an order from a state organization.
I do not choose which dam to remove. It is decided by officials at the request of nearby residents. Each dam is assessed in advance if it can and if should be dismantled.
Removing the dam is not a threat to beavers. I do not remove their houses - lodges.
Dams are removed only in places where beavers cause damage, for example by flooding nearby fields, flooding the basements of nearby houses, or when the stream on which beavers built their dam is degraded.
Even though beavers are very invasive animals, they are under strict protection in our country.
I personally like all animals, so beavers are fine too.

I like the way you work, break the dam straight away so the flowing water will help wash away the dam. In a lot of other videos they faff about digging trenches or skimming away a little at a time making the job 3 times as long, maybe they are paid by the hour.

I'm curious. What are the reasons for removing these structures? Are they done at a particular time of year? Are beavers within the structure when it is destroyed?
I recently watched a programme about beavers. They were praised as doing a lot of environmental good by slowing the water flow, creating wetland habitat for insects and other species. Apart from that, they are quite endearing looking creatures, and that's good for TV ratings. 😕

Great job stringing them together! I am curious to know if you have ever thought to use a bucket with a "hydraulic finger" or pincer that can close down on the big brush piles the beavers build, instead of trying to use the bucket alone? Your operator is very skilled with his machine - but it would seem easier / faster if there was a pincer to hold the branches down. Keep up the good work! Thanks!

The excavator operator is my older brother (actually, I'm the youngest, so the next brother is also older than me 😉).
And to answer your question seriously - no, we don't have a thumb in a excavator.

One thing I don’t get and it’s probably obvious but, why just break the dam and leave the contents to just float down stream causing a blockage further down which inturn causing more work for you months if not weeks from now. Why not use a grab attachment and just grab pieces and put aside ready to be off loaded in to a dump bed truck to be removed from the stream altogether. Is is just down to expense to have the extra tools and machinery on site that makes it an unused plan of action.
