  • In this video I am reaching out to all my viewers in hopes of finding some reliable transportation for the items I need moved around the USA. I am shipping engines, axles, transmissions and tranfer cases, Willys Jeep Body Tubs and complete Body Kits, and a variety of other items. I am having a terrible time lately with shipping brokers. They used to be a real asset to my shipping needs but lately things have taken a turn for the worse and prices are changing every shipment, and the lies and tricks of these brokers is out of hand. I am looking to find some HOTSHOT truckers, or anybody who is moving small and large items around the USA. Looking for a reliable person or group of people who are insured and able to take items from my place in Connecticut to places across the country. I am often shipping freight out of Connecticut but also have a lot of stuff that needs to be picked up and delivered to my place. If anyone has an interest in getting freight loads in and out of Connecticut please contact me directly at metalshaper@comcast.net

Brian, I feel your frustration. I do not ship a lot of items by LTL freight but some suggestions, people that I have used in the past, UPS Freight. They only ship terminal to terminal. You have to haul it to the terminal at your end, the consignee has to pick it up at the destination terminal. Most recently I have used RL Carriers and have been pleased with their charges and services. They offer liftgate truck service for pickup and delivery at an additional charge

Hey BRIAN, I have the old motor in the crate ready to go with axles on a pallet whenever you find someone 👍👍👍.

Have you ever heard of Blue Lane freight? Ships from any Fastenal store to another. Very reasonable rates. Only issue I’ve had is that they only ship to your side of the Rockies. I shipped a Pexto 36” shear from Tallahassee to Pa for $170. I believe shipping weight including pallet was about 600#
NO LOADING DOCK REQUIRED AT EITHER END!

Fastenal has stopped shipping from store to store in my area for some reason.

I know of several hotshot truckers out of berks, Lebanon and Lancaster counties in southeast Pennsylvania. They’re running dually trucks and deck over gooseneck trailers (not enclosed) I don’t know if they regularly go to Connecticut or not but the one guy put 80,000 miles on his truck last year so he definitely gets around.

Shipping has gone crazy. Used to not be a problem. I just had to return some parts. The shipping cost was almost the cost of the parts. I should just have kept the parts!!!

Shipping is a mess. I am still hoping to find some independent small truckers so I can get away from the crooked brokers out there

Good luck, east coast is a rough market because most drivers just do not want to go there. Ya gotta make $ both ways to survive and time is money. Your going to pay at least $2 a mile on a good day, but likely more than that. One engine sold at $4000 going to MO, IL, WI, or around there ballpark $1400 - $1800 for shipping. (just my guess)

I shipped an axle on a pallet through UPS but it was a while ago.

I hate UPS as well and don't use them for stuff like this as the rules have changed on used parts for some reason.

Unfortunately, we don't run into Connecticut, or anywhere on the east coast for that matter, but you are correct about the brokers. They are turning into a bunch of thieves. LTL freight, which is what you use is the worst. They are upcharging everyone because about 8 out of 10 shippers will just pay it. Also, instead of paying it to the truckers, they pocket it. Lots of shady people out there now and they are getting rich off you and the truckers. Best advice I can give you is to find a small, local trucking company and talk directly to them. They will gladly work with you. Especially if they can find a couple more customers like you going out of Connecticut. I have a small fleet of 15 trucks in Minnesota.

It is amazing what is happening in the trucking industry. Brokers are the worst people I have ever dealt with and yes, LTL is a gamble these days. Still hoping to find some small, independent folks out there

Not freight related, but do you post any listings for the stuff you're selling online? Not sure what that entire engine is worth, but I suspect the paint job alone is $1200 😂

I did sell all of my CJ2A sheetmetal parts already and do post things from time to time, but lately not much has been selling so I am filling scrap dumpsters like crazy because I can't even give most stuff away. Not many people want old tools or machines any longer, and if I am selling Jeep stuff people have no idea what things are worth these days. If you need anything just contact me directly at metalshaper@comcast.net

Sorry you are having such trouble with shipping, seems like a lot of people are having trouble getting stuff shipped. This kinda crap is what really hurts the small business owner's like you. I hope you find somebody dependable to ship your stuff out.
Anyone offering 1200$ for one of those engine's must not understand that you are do a professional job, not like some of these companies who sell a remanufactured engine that's lucky to last a year. You have the initial cost of the engine, parts, fluids, the overhead of the machinery you use to rebuild them, plus the time involved from start to finish. I would love to buy one of those f head engine's, but I'd have to sell some stuff to do that. I know anything you rebuild, is getting done with the best parts, and done right, to last a lifetime. G-d bless.

Shipping thieves are killing me these days, prices, adjustments, not showing up, etc.... all hurts small and large businesses. Most people have no idea what goes into a complete engine build. The parts, hours of precision work, overhead, payments on machines, consumables, etc.....Sadly the Jeep community is going to suffer when I stop doing what I do and there isn't another person to carry on the kind of work I do.

This is really sad to hear, so i hope that you can find a shipper, and people who can appreciate the quality of your work, and everything that goes into the kind of work you do. This economy is just kicking evryone, and everything costs so much more, but the quality isn't there. I would not want to be somebody raising kid's right now, because i don't see thing's getting any better. Hopefully we get somebody in office who wants to take care of this country, and stops all the waste and bs. Take care.

@@died4us590 Agreed, the world is upside down right now. I am also glad I don't have children..... couldn't imagine them trying to get thru the world the way it is these days. I am starting to raise more chickens and beef these days and will try to get that going more than the Jeep stuff so I can make and easy transition into another way of life. People have to eat so raising good farm fresh meat seems like a better way to earn a living compared to Jeep work.

Two things you need to try, uShip and lots of eBay. After that you will appreciate the norm of poor service. Seriously, I have shipped a lot of aircraft engines and parts. The trick for me is taking the load to a freight hub. That means a 90 mile one way trip for me. Your talents are being wasted. Best Regards.

Uship is terrible as well as Shiply, won't use either again. Still hoping to find other options and keep the money in the small guys pockets instead of the huge trucking companies

Nothing really makes sense any longer, whether it is a crooked freight broker, and the guy at the parts counter. Things are crazy all over and the speed at which the world is changing amazes me.

Sorry to hear about the freight issues. I felt I got jerked around when I sent my engine too.
Did I understand that you have an SGI body? If it’s a 2A that is part of your inventory reduction let me know please. I’d make the drive.

    • @metalshaperJeep
      @metalshaperJeep  3 месяца назад

I did have a bunch of SGI body kits in stock but all have deposits on them already. Lots of people don't want to wait for them so as soon as I said I had some for sale I got swamped with emails. All are on deposit at this time.
