You might think about getting you some airbags fir the rear wheels with a compressor and that way you can also use it to inflate your tires when they need air.
You'd think they would have had you haul at least 1 spreader bar why they had you there and request another truck for the rest of the load. Fun to watch, thanks!
I was a CDL hotshot... would have been all over that load. That said, I once loaded an oversize load in Tulsa that was 14 and a 1/2 feet tall. Had my permit which said get out of town get on the freeway and go basically. No turn by turn directions. Turned out I couldn't get out of town because no matter what road I took there was a low bridge. Ended up rejecting the load.
I was just watching your last vid and this popped up haha! love the content man 🔥
Bad-ass load spreader bars for a large Crane
O man, good load. To bad it was so heavy.
Be Safe.
Congrats on the 100k subs! Very cool man!
First time on your vids, you seem like a really happy guy !
That’s really good they comped you something for sending you out there. Your truck wasn’t squatting too bad but that trailer looked like it wanted to flip when they put that stuff on there and your leaf springs looked bottomed out.
Watched like 5 random videos you posted today - you’re always positive and smiling in all of them. Subscribing so some of your positivity rubs off virtually)
Love it!
Something u might look into is helper airbags. I had a set of Firestone bags that helped my factory springs and I never hauled another load without them. Two bags and small compressor was only few hundred dollars and it saved your factory springs and kept ur truck level
As soon as I saw that load of spreaders I said to myself “Alex you’re overweight what the hell are you doing!!!” Get your cdl bro you’d have even better content to put out!
Man that would of been good to see you in mobile AL so I could see you come through my town.
That dually is being Tested now ! ! Lol until they took it off, didn't look right. Good call
Hey Alex, I've been watching your channel since you started it, great job on the videos and content. Since you have so many miles in both Ford and Ram HD's I would love to see your opinion on what is good or bad about both trucks for hotshot drivers. I think one of your videos you referenced only being able to get a Ram from Enterprise and your drivers were disappointed because they preferred a Super Duty, but then again, you just purchased a Ram for yourself so I would like to see your preference. Thanks.
Dude you see the trailer flex. Dam right skippy your over loaded
I have the same truck and have towed 48,000lbs gross and pretty much had no squat with bags but before towing anywhere that much I’ve done a lot of mods. I have all the gauges, fully deleted, straight pipe, arp head studs, stage one injectors, fass 165, a sump, trans cooler (drop temp about 25-35 degrees) with electric fan, aluminum trans pan with fins holds an extra 4 quarts oil which drops temp about 15 degrees alone , air bags, and I have traction bars
Stay where the money is, Midwest is king! However I wouldn't mind some warmer weather right now
thanks for the great tips! I always watch your videos and I have a question. What is the best measurements for a trailer? The length and GVW
Always bro Great video!
Glad they didn't blow your springs out, WOW. Anykne could look and see that was not 3,000.
You're cool bruh, I like that attitude 😊💪✌
I didn't get to take my last break til an hour late but now it was worth it cause I get to watch your video on break
Get back to work!
@@skliros9235 im off now
Dude im not tryna be funny but but you should have been able to haul the load legally. Smh. I would have called the broker and used the weight as a negotiating tool for atleast another 1000. Your truck 17000 by its self lol. If your truck isnt tagged for atleast 35k how do you make any money.
Yyum
I just left Cali 48hrs ago I'm heading to Phoenix then to Boerne, then Florida
Way over on trailer. That's a huge ticket. 🤣
If you have air bags and a gauge you can tell how much weight is on your drove tires.
Now liftinggearhire has known weights on all that gear. I use there bars often and we have to have the accurate weights to add to the loads we are picking up so we know the crane can handle both.
Ah com’n the shipper never overloads a truck. Those CAT scales are out of calibration is all. Keep trucking’ 🚚💨
Alex, please make a video covering fuel card savings and related stuff if you haven’t covered it. Thanks
Since I got my class a cdls it has just made my life way easier
How so? Curious of benefits of getting mine vs not
@@craigjb with a CDL you can carry a lot more weight. If he had a CDL he could've taken the first load. CDL = More options. More options = less headaches when choosing loads.
Craig the farmer you can haul over 26001lbs legally
@@dabobbyb8298 correct
Does it depend which cdl? I’m looking into going this route doing hotshot I currently have my class b
Hey Alex, I hope you're doing well! I have a quick question about eld equipment. What eld do you use for compliance? I'm looking at the keep trucking one, but it doesn't look like it is compatible with an obd2 port which is what all cars and pickups have. If you or anyone else could help with this question, I would be much appreciative!
Just another day at the load board!
I forgot those truck stops down around LA charged for the night. But then again i would get fuel before i crashed for the night. I think only twice i ever paid for overnight parking.
Nice truck. Get yourself a headache rack asap! Rear window protection. I have seen some fatal accidents due to no protection.
You think a headache rack is going to stop 6000lbs of a single spreader bar? Good luck with that! 🤣
Just get a damn CDL. The most useful piece of plastic you can have in this industry (Hotshot or actual real OTR trucking). Get out of this mindset that you don't need a CDL to do this kind of work.
I am currently researching switching to this career. I know with a CDL I would be able to carry a higher load. However, my question is, would a higher load pay off, given that you will probably be spending more money on maintenance & most definitely gas. AND will you be able to get a higher load with a truck anyway? Any links to resources are appreciated. I would like to hear your experience.
EDIT: Would dispatchers be able to give you a higher load? any resources you can link would be helpful to my decision. And even if they can book you a load for that, wht about a silimar trailer, will it be able to support such a load?
Thanks.
The bottom line truth is a cdl opens alot of doors. When you partial your trailer out, and im a hoe for partials, you usually run out of weight before you run out of deck. Cdl means not passing up that super sweet partial cuz youll bust 26k a cdl also means you can pull a trailer thats heavier and built stronger, 10/12k axles and brakes versus these single wheel axles that i swear are gonna snap on every pivot. Just moved up from a trailer like alex has to a 22gn and im in love, it rides and stops sooo much better. Id suggest get up and running non cdl and then study your butt off and take your cdl test. Your letting money escape otherwise.
@@cbundy53ness Thanks for your comment! I have been looking into that, however, one of my Owner-Operator Friends is literally making the same as him as CDL driver in a semi-truck * he literally drives as much as he does if not more, he is literally not home.
I am not aiming to shoot down the CDL route, I am just looking for someone that can confirm that CDL addition is beneficial.
Not being home is part of the game unfortunately, i am never home, and when i am its never long enough to get all my home stuff done. Theres several other bonuses for going cdl, mainly a discount on insurance rates, insurance companies are pretty weary of non cdl hotshot drivers due to the exceptionally high number of idiots that have taken to driving. Ive come across a few brokers who will ask if your cdl and wont work with you if your not for the same reasons. Too many idiots messing up loads. Ive heard a couple stories of cali CHP messing with hotshotters and impounding their trailers if the gvw of the trailer is over 10k. Which is the law for cali residents and shouldnt apply to otr hotshot but apparently they doing so anyway. Honestly there is no good reason why a O/O semi would be making less than an O/O hotshot, unless they are just being inefficient somewhere either in filling their trailer, booking worthwhile loads/partials, or just cant keep them lot lizards out of the truck. Always remember, we sell deck by the foot, not the pound. Dont go cdl to chase weight, go cdl to chase space. And heavy stuff better be paying. 53ft is 13ft more feet of real estate over a 40'. The xtra weight capacity is just a cushion to help fill it. Im not in anyway suggesting you go get your cdl first thing, experience is king and getting it is alot safer for everybody on the road at 26k vs 40-80k. But know where you wanna end up and constantly work towards it
@@cbundy53ness That was actually a really good explanation, I like how you mentioned California. Unfortunately, my local Community College is not offering CDL course currently due to COVID, and I will have to wait on that *this is the cheapest option*.
Did I just see you in NE on I-80 hauling a camper???? West bound
Did you get your new Big Tex’s yet Alex ??
Lmao that just sucks. Losing a good load hurts, and sucks even more when you can't find anything else on the load board. Especially when you were ready to go.

Any video of your truck walk through?
What ramps are you using? Just got my 40ft and 1 day of moving the steel ramps has me ready to invest in alloy ones . Its a back killer
I'm pretty sure you need chains for a load that heavy. 4" straps at a bare minimum
I don't know how 2" straps are even being thought about. 4" minimum always, unless you are strapping down a tarp or small item.
Interesting video!
Get that one pallet to Arizona
Was that the palm springs flying j? Didnt look like Castaic.
Do you have airbags on the rear axle? Just curious
A lot of equipment to have a 9k cargo capability. Obviously it works for him.
I had one this week and didn’t recover I’m still sitting at home pissed 😡
What size wheels are you running on your truck?
grab some portable scales to driver over while ur getting loaded so u can adjust the load 1 time
Hi Alex, when they put that load on your trailer it had a slight bend in it. Good thing you stopped and got it weighed. Stay safe my friend.
hows it going alex, me and my brother in law are looking to get into the hot shot business. do you have any tips in regards to the hot shot biz? also, what length goose neck do you recommend to start off with? also what load board do you recommend for hot shot? i use DAT Loadboard for my transport company (tractors) and ive checked out the hot shot loads but they dont really show much hot shot loads.
In response to what I put in earlier..I'm an old fart,in my days there was a class A,B and C(D-?)..I guess all you need is a class A to haul anything from 26,001-80,000 but hopefully you have a truck that can handle the load(including the trlr)..Does Enterprise lease larger model trucks? Would it be better to get a trlr with a dually setup or a triple axle(maybe with a lift axle)..Its more expensive to operate but you may not need to pass on loads..Alex get your CDL-A
Sounds like the US needs to do what has been done in Australia - "Chain of Responsibility" legislation. If a truck is found heavy on the road by the Mermaids, the owner and operator of the truck, and everyone involved with that load are hauled over the coals and prosecuted.
As an example: In 2007 / 2008, a New South Wales company was found guilty of accepting 300 overloads / overweights into their receival sites. The Mermaids done an audit, and a fine of $9 million was levied against the receivers and the senders / transport operators. This could have been reduced if the scales were tested in a different manner, but, the receivers did not want to listen to knowledge, so they have paid the price.
Alex, just as a thought: When you are getting items like that, look at the forklift that is loading you. Do not be frightened to ask the people loading you as to their guestimate of the weights involved, as they are doing this sort of thing, day in and day out. Alarm bells should have been ringing when a larger than 4,000 lb forklift was loading you. Also, if you get done again for 'heavy haulage without a permit', let me know, as there is a good probability you can get off an overweight ticket by using a bit of knowledge. The knowledge is appliccable world wide, so it will work anywhere!
My experience with transport relates to building materials. Limestone from one quarry was moved when wet, so you would have pallets that would go over 6,000 lb, instead of 4,500 lb. Put 6 pallets on, and you find that you are heavy! As a result of doing 'monos' with the forklift, a new forklift was purchased, and set up to lift 6,750 lbs... Ultimate test of the new forklift was driving up a 2 in 9 slope, with a 4,000 lb pallet of bricks on the back, and still having positive control on the steering. So you know, forklifts were mounted on 40 to 60 h.p. tractors, behind the large rear wheels. Too much weight would result in the front wheels becoming airborne! You would then steer the tractor by using the independent rear brakes. Scary to watch, but great fun to do! Just have to remember to keep the pallet within a foot of the ground!!!
Alex you are definitely an inspiration. Much respect for your all your videos, time and information. Truly appreciate it all.
A question about Dot/Drug Consortium.
For Non-CDL drivers. does it apply?, or any information you might be able to share some light on it. Thanks again for all you do...
Very nice video which web we can search for load ?thank u
Hi Alex just go's to show you can never trust a BOL you have to get a scale ticket every time
As always God bless and stay safe out there 🙋♂️🇬🇧
I always put my ratchets on the drivers side a lot easier to see if they’re loose vs staring at the strap end
I do allso
Yep. I do the same. Also quick to tighten down if needed. Roadside stuff, and tools are all in my trailer box passenger side with the tire carrier. Just easier to keep an eye on and safer when off the road.
So I drive from Albuquerque to south California all the time. Do they have setups that you drive someone’s trailer and load? I wouldn’t mind the extra money
That’s why I never ever com close to any beer 🍺 load , they always say it’s 42 000 ...and when you scale those load it’s always 47 000
Cause they put extra 2 pallet hopefully you will not notice ...those sucker don’t know there is weights stations 🚉
Hey was lookin back at some of your old videos here and was a 1.50-1.60/mile really good for cali to texas lane? Im honestly surprised by that as weve ran that lane a ton of times over the year non cdl and always get 2.30-2.60/mile. Ive always thought it was a great lane. Guess it just depends what part of texas i suppose.
You hit something solid with that load without a reinforced front trailer And not front blocking or welded front block ,it could crush you or another vehicle like a tin can. 20yrs oil and gas. I've Seen it before. Just a thought lol. Nice set up.
man.. the rules are strict down there.. i was fresh out of highschool went to the oilfield in canada and was getting sent out to deliver loads over 20k lbs on similar equipment, but no not on nice dry highways this was on dirt roads hours into the woods in the winter.. ice road truckers shit at 18.. never had an issue, truck didnt make it up some steep iced hills with turns at the bottom, so you get good at backing 40' trailers around turns first try real quick
Also to add to my previous post would it help you if you had a CDL
I noticed that’s a mega cab 8 foot box is that custom-made or are they just made in the states because we don’t have that here in Canada unless you build it yourself
Manufacturer wont do it despite people wanting it. Its a kit where they cut the frame on the megacab truck and swap the box along with extend the lines.
They wint do it as RVers are limited to 65ft truck nose to tail of trailer
is that the 8ft bed or the 6foot 4 bed? i absolutely love your 3500!
Eight foot bed. That Mega Ram frame has been stretched.
I just notice this but I have a question in your truck did you order it with the mega cab long bed or did you have to have a separate shop make it?
He bought it used by the look of it. Look through his video listings, youll find when he got the truck.
TWIC required to access the dock area? Also 5:50 phone call.
You need to look into an aluminum trailer. My F450 with 140 gallons of fuel with a 53' flatbed deck and 6' extension weighs 16k lbs together
You must be over length with the 53 ft trailer.
No he not over length smh

"Wow" that load was crazy .it could have broke the trailer.i just wonder how long that shipment been sitting there waiting?
IIRC Alex said load 15k. His trailer had tandem 8k axles. So if moved slightly back. It wouldn’t have been overloaded badly. (I think over limits even if CDL) with that trailer, original weight rating.
They really tried to get by cheap.
someone showed up with a real truck, they could have taken it
@@firstwest2474 a one ton dually with a low wind cross section can easily handle 15k load that’s under 2’ tall. I have hauled a lot with 32’ 22k axles
Lol....
That load is easy weight with a correct trailer. I’ve hauled those before and 15k +
when i was trucking 50k was average load and my rig was 19k to 22k empty truck and trailer close to30k with a 4 or 5 axle trailer you amaze me at the rates these little trucks get it would be not be unusual with the big wagon to gross over 100k
Should have called me Alex ! I run 28k-33k all day long .Same set up but with a pj trailer .
Lol I had a 3 wedge on a single rear pickup 5280 steers, 8720 drives, 16580lbs triple trailer axles😂 fuckkkk ittttt😂
Good morning Alex my name is Jason I am here in Dayton, Ohio and I would like to know if I go non CDL what size trailer would you recommend I'm getting a dodge 3500. I would so greatly appreciate your advice.
Alex, do you know what tire/wheel combo is on that truck? I'm looking to go to a bigger tire/wheel but don't want the backs to stick out. Yours looks pretty good in the vids.
I think he is running 19.5 all around. Look for the video where he purchased the truck and that should tell you. Also that size is what is in the 4500 series of trucks of all three manufacturers.
@@markbremmer8642 that's what I was figuring too, 19.5 8 lug direct bolt-ons. I was hoping he knew specifically what aftermarket company the original guy got them from. The 4500's and F450 19.5s are 10 lug as far as I know.
@@Itsa_Mea I believe the F450 pickup has a 8 lug rim. Not sure. BigTruckBigRV has a F450 with 19.5 factory rims that look like Alcoa rims, but are a Ford product. Also Alex mentioned in a previous video that he ran 19.5 on his old truck and didn't like them. Probably because it was a single wheel, not a dual wheel.
Why don't you get a cdl?
I went to pick up a load that they said was 10000 lbs put it on my trailer. I didn't pay much attention I was only going 56 miles but when I ran the numbers on the material it came out to almost 20000 lbs so I am buying a portable 10000 lbs scale to bring with me. I was fortunate that there was not a weigh station between.
I am a cdl driver but that doesn't cover when you weigh exceeds gvwr on the trailer but my f350 6.7 handled it like a champ.
29K + Won't do it again though.
That’s jacked up! I hate when people can’t get the weight right and waste our time!
I seen some trailers that have dual tires in each axle. So a two axle trailer will have eight tires. Would it be better the use a trailer like that for the amount of weight and mileage you drive?
He would have to go CDL because those trailers are over 20k gvw plus truck puts over 26000 limit
0:29 Dude get your truck out of the way, I'm trying to watch the ships get loaded. You should buy one of those freighters. Can you imagine how many partials you could put on there? 😅
from the looks I can tell those are not 3000 LB and check your trailer when its sinking under weight this means its so heavy.
This was definitely to heavy....😅
That ain't no mistake been many times they tell me is 8 k and get there is 10 or 12 weight always
So you ended up not delivering the load right?
if i was a cdl hot shoot i would've took for one i would have not been stuck in Cali for the weekend and renegotiate the pay for the proper Wight and no i would not be happy but mistakes happen and hey ya know that's life it is all good though
Curious, what the max load for that trailer after you factor out the weight of the trailer itself?
9k
Shouldn’t you load them closer to the axles ? Looks like most of that is tongue weight
So how much it the cargo weigh?
Now if you had a CDL you would be good. I just pulled a 35160 load. But then I’m a CDL holder.
whats the best way to find a hotshot to haul a piece of equipment? knoxvill tn to alma Arkansas load is just under 2000lbs its a trencher thats on its own trailer but the trailer isnt road worthy.
Believe it or not, hit craiglist or check facebook market place. I haul in texas and would snatch that sucker up quick. Just, I wouldn't do it for 1.20 a mile but around 2.50....
Why not do vehicles only ?
So,if your a non-cdl hot shotter and your only allowed to haul 7,160lbs..the load was way over that(roughly 15,000lbs plus/26,000lb limit:truck, trlr and load)..if you had your cdl, does that mean you could pick this load up or would you need to get a semi or a larger model p/up..like a 450-750 Ford(Dodge ?) that could handle this load..what is the weight limit per classification of cdl/A,B,C and D(CDL-A is 80,000lbs)
C- Normal pasenger car, every day person. No weight limit. I can pull a 40ft loaded to 35k as long as its my stuff.
B-Straigjt trucks over 10,001lbs to 26,000lbs
A-any truck or combination above 26,001lbs.
The truck is fine. The trailer might have been over weight, but unsure on all the numbers other than 8k axles and a 20-25% truck weight transfer. (18,000 to 19,000 max cargo and trailer lets say)
So, if you had the ability to take that load. Would you be able to get more money out of it?
How come you are looking for load in CA? Dont you need a CDL since your trailer is over 10k GVWR?
So did you get any pay? You did load, secure, moved it. It was near 5x the weight you were told... Ok heard $250. Hope you didn’t drive empty far. I wondered if the center, the pallets were removed if you might have hit under 26
Was this the flying J in riverside ca that’s the where I currently live
Me too
What’s the weight breakdown by axel that you can do again? I forget what it was.
Since he does not have a cdl he can haul no more then 26k if i remember correct but i think techinically going by weight ratings the truck and trailer could have handled it
@@nicholasdockins9474 His trailer has been derated, so he still can only carry 26 k
He left off a Zero, it was 30,000lbs 🤣🤣🤣
If you did have a cdl though, you could have renegotiated the rate and charged a whole lot more than 2500 bucks
