Great video. I was puzzled as to why I was getting power to the solenoid, but just for a second, and it wouldn't start. I started it using your screwdriver method (but using jump leads). With it running, I could see the positive battery terminal was sparking. So I cleaned up the connection, and it worked just fine.
My D130 is 7 years old. It is now on its 3rd battery & I use a battery minder / charger over winter. These batteries tend to wear out quickly. Also change your transmission fluid to 5W50 full synthetic motor oil if you want it to last. Mine started slipping around 200hrs and this fixed it.
Had done everything you said except the screwdriver against solenoid trick. Started right up. Ordered part and glad I don't have to figure out how to haul the mower somewhere. From a fellow RUclipsr, well done and thank you!
I have put on a new fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, new plugs, took the needle off the fuel solenoid under carb and unplugged it, eliminated safety switch's, new starter solenoid and it has been blowing fuses every time I try to start it. Now I got that sorted out and fuse is good now. D-140 tries to start but won't fire up and start. There is fuel in the filter bowl. I never check spark plug gaps. Just install them and hook them up. It's trying to start but will not.
I always keep a "Battery Tender JR" (not charger) on my mower battery, when not in use. 4 years now and it's still going strong. Leaving the battery connected all Winter, will eventually kill it. Just like a car battery, it needs to be kept charged.
Got a new battery like you suggested & at least it starts but won't turn over. It has 42 hours on it. I have the new John deere kit I was told to get when I bought it, once engine is at 35 hours. I'm not sure how to put all this stuff on. Do you have a video on that? Yeah, I'm a 65 yr old woman.
I've fixed a lot of mowers that would not start or started with great difficulty. Buy yourself a battery charger. Less expensive then a new battery. I've had mine for over 30 years, bought from K-Mart, probably cost me $30 back then, probably saved me several 100s of dollars, and time and travel. At the very very least you should have jumped it with the car or truck.
Yeah that’s a great point! When you know confirm the battery is the problem attempt to charge it before buying a new one. Great tip and thanks for commenting!
Not a single video on the internet about how to change the starter on a D130. Everything else but that. In their infinite wisdom, they made one of the starter bolts completely inaccessible because of this metal shroud. I'm about to catch it on fire and buy anything else but a John Deere.
I check everything as you recommend in the video but nothing. The only thing I can’t check is the started since I have no clue. Does the e130’have multiple fuses or just the one? Thanks
MY JD 110 will not start with a full, clean battery. It will crank once then go clunk and stop. No clicking noise like everyone states I can turn the key and the same thing happens : crank and stop, as if the battery was dead. At a loss.
I would check the other items as mentioned in the video down the line from the battery, but what you are describing sounds like it could be the starter…maybe
I charged my battery and it read 12.6v but after trying to start it a few times it read 9v. You think it could be the battery or one of the other things you mentioned. Also tried the solenoid trick and I did hear them click.
Our E130 stopped mid-mow. We've replaced the oil canister and the battery. When we turn it on, it just emits a high pitched buzz. The engine never turns over. Help! Thanks.
I would just go through the steps mentioned in the video. If you know the battery is good and producing 12 volts then check the sensors, then move to the starter solenoid then check the starter. Good luck!
Having one of those problems here. D130 just buzzes when I turn the key. It's been subzero in a big way here - can the strter freeze? It worked a few days ago & now it's just buzzing. Any suggestions? Thanks Dave
Hi Dave, it’s possible that the battery doesn’t have enough “juice” to engage the starter. I think it’s called cranking amps or something? One thing you can try is giving it a jump with jumper cables to your car. If it starts then you likely need a new battery.
My D130 runs fine but frequently will not start unless I kick the forward or reverse pedal several times. Once I kick the pedals several times it stars right up. Could you offer any thoughts on what might be wrong with my mower? Thanks so much. Don
Hi Don, so that does seem a bit odd but when looking at the forward/reverse pedal it moves a metal lever that goes back to the transmission. On mine that runs next to the wires for the seat safety switch. You might check there to see if that switch wiring is all secure. Other than that I’m not sure what would be causing it.
I have a jd125 that the starter spins, but doesn't engage the flywheel. Put in new starter and relay, still does the same thing. Will a new battery help?
If there is not enough voltage the starter will not spin fast enough and therefore will not rise/or fall (depending upon your peticular model)and will not engage the flywheel to start the mower.
5-7-23 HELP MR HANDY! HELP! My L-130 want start! New Battery, Start Switch, PTO Switch, Spark Plugs. Turn the switch..No click, no sound. Jumped across the Silenoid an it spins. No noise from the starter or fuel pump. Silenoid or starter bad or both or what else?
You are a huge life saver and budget saver $400!
Glad it helped!
I've also had trouble with the PTO switch engagement causing a no start. Nice Video!
Great point. Thanks for sharing and for the comment!

Awesome, informative and concise. Thanks for the guidance
Happy to help!

That’s great to hear. Glad that it helped you out!
Great video. Can also be the 20 Amp fuse for the power
Great tip! Thanks for posting it!

Definitely sounds like a lack of fuel could be the problem but you have tried all the things I would have. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
That intro is 🔥!
Lol. Thanks 😀
Really saved my bacon it was this bad solenoid but I always want to condemn the safety switches
Glad it helped.

Yeah, I'm a 65 yr old woman.
Unfortunately I do not. I only have a couple of videos on this particular lawn tractor.

Jump starting with your vehicle was told NOT a good idea by John Deere, can fry the battery
@@streetsmartintelligent Yup, if you hook the cables up backwards. Don't do that.

That is frustrating.
the D130 john deere lawn mower fly wheel flies won’t start is the gas hose blocked?
It’s possible your filter could be clogged. You should be able to see if the fuel filter is really dirty and if fuel is able to pass through it.
March 25, 2024. 3pm. Issue on not starting. Sensor on mower pto. Have to slightly move the pto lever to start.
Yep sounds like the pto sensor.
I check everything as you recommend in the video but nothing. The only thing I can’t check is the started since I have no clue. Does the e130’have multiple fuses or just the one? Thanks
Sorry that it didn’t help you. I am not aware of any other fuses than the ones shown in the video.

Usually that means the battery is not holding a charge and needs to be replaced.
Great vid man!
Thanks. Glad you liked it.

I replaced the solenoid and checked that foot switch still want turn over and my battery is good ???
Difficult to tell without seeing it in person, but I would just keep going down the line and make sure each part is good starting with the battery.
Mines cranking and turning the flywheel but not starting
It could be a fuel problem. Check the fuel filter and make sure it’s not plugged.

Hmmm, that’s an interesting one. If you have a multimeter I would check the voltage on the battery to make sure before I replaced it.
If there is not enough voltage the starter will not spin fast enough and therefore will not rise/or fall (depending upon your peticular model)and will not engage the flywheel to start the mower.

Hard to say unfortunately. The starter might be bad, but I haven’t had to change one of those so I don’t have any examples to help. Sorry.
Check the 30 Amp fuse.
Thanks for the input!
Your a natural🚜
Ahhhh
SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME!!
Hope this video helped!
Honestly how scared if will happen again, it fixed itself last time..
Thank you 🙏
Glad it helped!
