    I love that they included the Maryann storyline. Even though Adonis was the product of an affair, she had no responsibility to him. She could’ve gone the rest of her life without knowing that child and she could’ve just taken care of her own. But, she sought him out and raised him as her own because he was Apollo’s blood. That’s a strong woman. She stepped up to raise him cause his own mother & father couldn’t. Hats off to the writing.

      My only problem with Creed is how no mention of Apollo and Mary Anne's children.
      I swear Apollo had children before Adonis but Creed makes almost no mention of them.

    • @Threeleebird
      @Threeleebird Год назад +14

      @@kentinson1670 I think Apollo had two children with Mary Anne, both of whom appear in Rocky (first film), so it seemed strange to me that his only offspring here is a child he had out of wedlock without mentioning the children he had before, which probably they don't even exist in the Creed universe anymore. I guess they were removed from the plot to make Adonis's story more dramatic as he is the only son of Apollo dealing with his legacy and his story as well as a tragic ending.
      And also, I can't see Apollo as a cheater here either, maybe I'm the only one but there's no suggestion that he could have. And less, to the point of having a child with a another woman. Perhaps my impression of Apollo is that he always seemed decent and honest, arrogant? yes, but not a bad person.

    • @EVGriffinJr
      @EVGriffinJr Год назад +15

      @@Threeleebird I thought that as well. Ryan Coogler is a great Director but I always felt it should’ve been revealed that Marianne had Adonis after the death of Apollo and didn’t know she was pregnant until well after his death.

    Marry you gotta dig deeper into the quagmire that is Paulie. He’s probably one of the most misunderstood characters in the franchise. He’s the tragic story of the guy who quits school to go get a job at a meat packing plant to support his mother and young sister. With no education, he is stuck with a menial job that pays only enough for essentials and insures his status as a bachelor. He drinks because he’s lonely, he acts out when he drinks out of resentment for what Rocky has with Adrian because in his mind he will never have it because he sacrificed for Adrian. He’s jealous, and feels left out. He’s probably the most complex character in the franchise. You see his remorse in Rocky Balboa, when Paulie gets upset about how he treated Adrian. I agree he was a grumpy prick at times, but there is a whole bunch going on with that character and it’s story arc. ❤ ya kid!

Having to help him out of the blue in the middle of the night to the bathroom for him to get sick, taking him to get chemotherapy while talking and focusing on other things instead of why we were there, even having to have the worst conversation of my life to talk my Dad to get help when he didn't want to do it at first, I did ALL of that sh*t every day for a whole year. There are a lot of similarities between the original Rocky and this movie. Both had troubled childhoods and grew up without a dad. In Rocky 5, Rocky said, “Hey yo Tommy, at least you had a dad around to knock out”. They both find the love of their lives. They both go from nobody to contenders. They both lose, but actually win. One proves to himself he wasn’t a “mistake”, one proves that he’s “not just another bum from the neighborhood”. Rocky had Mick to tell him “Cause Micky loves ya” Adonis has Rocky to say “I love ya kid”. Tons of homage paid to the original in this film’s scenes. Stallone is brilliant at making characters relatable to each other and establishing emotional connections with the character and the audience.

I've been asking my girlfriend to watch the saga so she could "understand" a bit more why I always refer to Sly on a daily basis etc. While watching the movies (once a week or so) something appeared to me: it is so so so different to watch them in a short period of time! Back in the 80s & 90s... we had to wait for years and years before the next Rocky movie: I think this wait was contributing to make us believe Rocky and all those characters where "real", like a family you only met once in a while to have news about their life... This time relationship from another century created a strong bound with the saga, I think!

    A movie that turned out to be so much better than I expected, as a long time Rocky fan. I really feel like they earn that Rocky theme fanfare by the time they play it in the ring.

    Hi thanks for a great review, just to let you know the guy who played Ricky Conlan is called Tony Bellew and the stadium for the title fight is called Goodison Park home to Everton football club who Tony supports as do i. Try searching for Tony bellew v Ulungu Makabu world title fight where Tony fought in the same stadium and won a world title for real a couple of years after this movie

    The writing and direction by Ryan Coogler is magnificent
    Great choreography for the fights.
    MBJ on his 2nd lead role is greater than that.
    Apollo had a couple kids (boy and girl) that were in Rocky 2.
    Pre-release, I thought that Adonis was one of those kids.
    But as the child that nobody knew about was a big surprise.
    Stallone never dissappoints as Rocky Balboa.
    he's one of the producers, got his 2nd Oscar nomination for the role and he won the Golden Globe (Best Supporting).
    As an spinoff that nobody saw coming, it's very much on par with the first and last Rocky films.
    You couldn't see this film in any other way.

    Mary - you have been asking for what are proper boxing terms. Here's a short list:
    * Boxers do not 'dodge' punches, they 'slip' punches.
    * Moving the head and neck quickly from side-to-side to avoid multiple punches is 'bob and weave'
    * When a boxer 'slips' a punch and immediately hits his opponent who is now exposed is called a 'counterpunch' (or 'counter' for short).
    Hope this helps in your future boxing-themed movies!

    This is my favorite sports movie of all time!!!! And it home hard for me because this movie came out only 6 months after my mom passed away from complications from cancer. She had fought it on and off for 10 years, and because she was a single mother I was her primary caretaker. The scenes of Rocky struggling from the chemotherapy were hard to watch, but the fact that it was perfectly matched with the training montage definitely uplifted me. The line of “If I fight, you fight” still stays with me because my mom and I had the same deal. She fought for 10 years on and off and while it was a rough fight, it was worth it.
    As for the movie itself, it’s a flawless masterpiece. Ryan Coogler actually tried to make Creed his first film but Sly Stallone said he would only work with him after he did at least one film. After he made Fruitvale Station Sly was all in. And I mean this from the bottom of my heart, this is (in my opinion) the best performance of his career. He was robbed of an Oscar but thankfully he got TONS of other awards for this movie. The scene of him telling Donny that he wishes he could spend one more day with his wife still brings me to tears.

    Stallone won his supporting actor Golden Globe for this movie and should have won the Oscar IMO. I think not having to focus on writing AND (for 4 of the movies) directing AND being the lead really freed Stallone up to do some of his best acting work.

    25:04 Adonis may seem more muscular but not really bigger, the actor that played Ricky Colan is Tony Bellow, real life boxer, he is 1.91 m.
    In fighting sports not necessarily looking more cut means more strength.
    Just the boxing curiosity of the day, love your videos.

    I don't think women weaken the legs before a fight or game but true story, after an American football game me and my girl were going at it and all of a sudden I got the worst cramp in the back of my thigh. We had to stop, she helped roll me on my back and stretched and massaged my thigh. Then she got me some Gatorade and then it was on again haha. One of the best GFs I ever had. Thank you A.R. and thank you for that wonderful night bc DAMN it was great, for both of us. She helped me and then I thanked her for it, for a looong time. I'm pretty sure we both went to sleep with smiles on our faces

    Rocky's cancer situation hits a little close to home. It was early in 2022 when my sister and I had to force my dad to go to the hospital when he'd been sick for months. Dropped 100lbs in 6 months. I knew from certain things having had moved back home that something wasn't right but he absolutely refused to get help. According to his doctor, when we finally got him to get to the hospital, he wouldn't have had much time left had he not gone. Turned out he had 2 cancerous masses in his colon that had to get removed. He's fine now, doing well. But, dang, I just didn't get it. I don't mess with my health, if something feels off I go right to my doctor or the hospital.

    When Rocky told Adonis and Bianca to not um...have relations before the fight. That's a common tradition amongst MMA fighters too, well most of us. Depending on your trainer, they will insist on the abstinence rule during training for a big match, sometimes up to 3 months leading up to a fight. Back in 2012 I was doing both boxing and the MMA/UFC was still relatively new. My trainer was an old school guy so his rule was no sex, or um....going "solo" for 3 months. I was married at the time and she didn't like it, I had to tell her to go take cold showers pretty often. It didn't bother me to be honest, sex isn't all that compared to the honor and thrill of defeating an opponent
