I so love your reactions Mary! Thank you for showing all your emotions and these first 3 Rocky films tug at the heart strings for sure. Highest of highs and lowest of lows.
Fun Fact: According to an interview given by Mr. T, he attended the movie's premiere with his mother. During the scene where he yells lurid remarks at Adrian, his mother turned to him and said, "I did not raise you to talk to a lady like that." She then stormed out of the theater!! The real Mr.T was a big time mama's boy
Honestly I could see that, even though it was a movie, the big screen and everything it would feel all to real to her. He was brought up with good values.
Plus my favorite joke from Mick in this one... "How much you think he eats?"... "about 202 pounds"... ANNOUNCER: "the champ weighing in at 202 pounds.." the look on Rocky's face and the smile on Mickey's... PRICELESS.
Rocky‘s gut wrenching wails to the death of Micky get me every time. Reminds me of when I lost my Mom. But great heartfelt acting by Sylvester Stallone.
Rocky 3 is also my favorite. Rocky is in his prime, Apollo and Rocky join forces, and you truly see how Mickey cared about Rocky. Your genuine reactions are so beautiful to see
The song "Eye of the Tiger" was written specifically for this film. Stallone actually allowed the songwriter to see the film before it was released on condition he would return it back to Stallone immediately and he would be under an Non-Disclosure Agreement to ensure that the film was not spoiled before its release. This is my personal favorite Rocky film, even though I think Rocky II is the best made of the films.
While I do appreciate Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger", Rocky 4 had the better soundtrack overall. I have a soft spot for Robert Tepper's "No Easy Way Out" and Survivor's " Burning Heart".
Burning Heart was also written for Rocky 4 as Eye of the Tiger was written for Rocky 3. BTW Survivor is a super underrated band known for more underappreciated songs than the 3 Rocky Soundtrack Songs that they wrote specifically for those movies.
Adrian had grown so much from the first two films. I never get over how hard that line hits: "Because when all the smoke is clear and everyone's through chanting your name, it's just gonna be US!!!" Little did she know that future was right around the corner. But she dealt with it like the strong woman she was.
@@rayjaymor8754 Really? That's in my top 4. My lineup is Rocky 2, Rocky 1, Creed 1, Rocky Balboa, Rocky 3 & 4 are similar, Creed 2 and Rocky 5. I love #3, but I really wish they had cut the wrestling out. I have no idea why Hulk Hogan was forced into this script. lol
Mr.T (Clubber Lang) was a true "Man's Man" (a phrase you don't hear anymore today), but he was as kind and charitable as he was tough, a professional bodyguard turned actor everyone loved and respected him in the '80s, he just proved that he was a great actor as well in this movie.
Mr. T made an appearance at my Boy Scouts Camp Owasippe retreat in the 80s. It was an amazing experience. I remember vividly him saying, "I pity the fool who do drugs!" 😃
Men I hated him in this film. Funny how I love him in A-Team & his self titled cartoon(which how I was introduced to him.). Speaks volume on his acting skill. Love actors where my blood boil in one project but love them in others.
Don’t know what’s more heartbreaking. The scene itself or Mary’s reaction to it. That was a heartbreaking scene back in the day that is saw it in the theater. Yup. I’m old!
Great to see the younger generation appreciate these films. I grew up with them and remember Rocky 3 and following films coming into cinemas. It was a real buzz. Thanks Mary ❤
The entire series including the Creed movies are great. They all continue Rocky's journey through his life and they all connect with each other. Stallone did an amazing job with creating this character and telling their life story over 42 years.
Yes, Eye of the Tiger was written specifically for this movie. It was a _huge_ hit, cementing Survivor's status as a top pop-rock band. "Thunderlips" was played by Hulk Hogan, who has since become one of the most famous (and most beloved) professional wrestlers of all time. Clubber Lang was played by Mr. T--that was his legal name, or as he put it, "first name Mr, second name period, last name T". He starred in several other movies of varying quality, but was best known for playing B.A. Baracus on the tv show "The A-Team". Ironically, Hulk Hogan and Mr. T would end up as tag team partners in a special match for the first Wrestlemania.
Actually I heard that Eye of the Tiger was originally written for the Karate Kid, and You’re the Best was originally written for Rocky 3, but somehow at some point the songs switched movies.
@@alexp601 There's a video about 'Eye Of The Tiger'. According to the song writer, they were asked to do it because Queen denied the rights to the use of Another One Bites The Dust in the opening sequence. @@alexp601 Close, it was Joe Esposito's 'You're the best' that was written for Rocky 3 but ended up in Karate Kid. It ended up becoming more popular than the song written specically for the film Survivor's The Moment of Truth.
I've lost count of the times I've seen the Rocky films and Mickey's death always gets me. The series as a whole is just masterful at drawing emotion from its audience. Bravo Mr Stallone
Mickey dying was a very hard moment to see in the rocky films. He was a father of sorts to rocky and a great man. I can only imagine Stallone in real life cried and wailed the same way when his son sage died. I still cry every time when he passes on screen.
Mr. T (Clubber Lang) was actually a great personality of the 1980's. I was 7 when this came out. He plays a great and terrible villain in this, but his real personality was tough but fun in public life. He had a cartoon and his own kids' cereal you could eat while watching his cartoon on Saturday morning.
@@terrylandess6072 um. I was mentioning mainly his personality in the 1980's. She already knows he's an actor. I was letting her know he is a good guy.
Mr. T and his iconic trash talking was the key to the success of this movie. It gave us a villain finally for Rocky to beat up...because nobody can really boo Apollo Creed. He was a good and honorable champion, and well liked. This started the trend of opponents that were dicks for Rocky to beat up. (Minor spoiler: how she never seen this movie?)
Apollo's training was directed not only at Rocky, but also at himself. So you could say that the movie was silently telling you about Apollo that he wanted a rematch with Rocky. If you look at the scenes, Apollo does all the exercises at the same time with Rocky, then you realize that he decided to train with him and get physically fit for that secret fight.
I am not into sports either, particularly not boxing, but when I saw this movie in high school (80's) all of us guys walked out pumped full of adrenalin and probably testosterone. We didn't fight each other, but boy were we energized to fight something! Eye of the Tiger. Now you get why that song is so huge for my generation.
One thing cool about this movie is, Rocky pretty much became Apollo, where as Clubber was what Rocky was while he was training for the fights against Apollo. Shows the affects of fame on Rocky and his training and how he thought about himself and others.
Great reaction. Everyone tears up to some degree when Mickey dies. That one will never not hurt. Just a little trivia, the character of Clubber Lang was loosely based off of real life boxer Ernie Shavers (who sadly passed away just a few months ago) known as the greatest boxer to never win the title (though he came DAMN close). Ernie is considered one of, if not THE, hardest hitting punchers in all of boxing history. Muhammad Ali who fought legends like George Foreman when Foreman was in his prime in the 70s said the hardest he was ever hit was by Ernie Shavers. Just for context later George Foreman returned to Boxing in the 90s when he no longer in his prime, he was in his 40s and fought Evander Holyfield, who famously fought Mike Tyson, and said George Foreman hit him (Holyfield) the hardest. He had to ask his corner if he still had TEETH. So by that logic Ernie Shavers hit harder than Mike Tyson and George Foreman in his prime. Like SCARY hard punches. Problem was he had virtually NO defense, and too often he'd just throw wild punches and not even come close to hitting anything. One of his fights all his opponent did was Jab him. Just a staight on punch to the face. The most basic punch you learn to avoid in Boxing and he couldn't avoid it. To the point where Ernie's eye socket was broken by the end. He just relied entirely on his punching power just like Clubber Lang did in this movie. Personally, I think the fights in this movie were based on Ernie Shavers vs (then champion) Larry Holmes in 1979, two years before this movie came out. Look up: "Larry Holmes Vs. Earnie Shavers (2) Holmes had a hellava chin!!" here on RUclips. It's only 55 seconds long from that particular fight of the closest Ernie (the bald one) ever came to being champion, and why Larry Holmes is probably the most underrated champion of all time. But those 55 seconds is like a condensed version of the two fights in this movie combined.
Sly took inspiration from the career of professional boxer Chuck Wepner who once fought Muhammad Ali (becoming the first man to knock him down) and lost by TKO late in the 15th round. Sly denied it for years and Wepner tried to sue. They eventually settled and Sly admitted the truth.
@@marcpower4167 Hardly. Barely. Inspiration from many places. First of all from other films - in particular: Marty (1955) On The Waterfront (1954) Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956) Requiem For A Heavyweight (1962)
What's funny is, the actor who plays Paulie, Burt Young, was a champion boxer in the Marine Corps & went pro after he was discharged. He had a very good record. His manager was Cus D'Amato who later managed Mike Tyson. So ironically, if they actually did fight, Paulie just might beat Rocky!
The heavy screams of Rocky after he lost Mick makes me cry every fucking time, it's like it's not even acted Probably the most emotional death scenes I've ever watched
I love the way Rocky and Apollo’s relationship came full circle. And then the evolution of Adrian’s character. And to cap it off, the iconic painting that they end the movie with.
Sometimes, one line in a song or movie, will hit you right between the eyes, and never let go. For me this was " For the first time in my life, I'm afraid".
I love how you are so invested in this movie. I know reactors tend to amplify reactions, but I genuinely believe you felt this one. Glad you enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one.
I forgot how great Mr T. performance is in this movie lol, you can tell he's having a fun time. Also Stallone gotta be top 5 best criers of all time. That scene with Micky ALWAYS gets me
Please do the whole series! It is absolutely worth the watch and it’s been great seeing your enjoyment and investment in these characters. If you choose to finish it I don’t think you will feel disappointed whatsoever - they’re all great!
Rocky 3 is excellent, because it’s really about something: How success can change you, and how to overcome that. (Exactly what Stallone was dealing with at the time). Rocky 1-3 as a trilogy is about as good as it gets.
Definitely continue, the quality never drops to any great degree and all the movies contribute something important to the life story of Rocky and the people around him, in one way or another.
Mickey's headstone says he was born in 1905, but in the first movie, which was set in late 1975, he said he was 75 years old, which would put his date of birth at either 1900 or possibly late 1899.
So happy to see you really appreciated this one, as its truly a film that I grew up with and learned mad lessons from. Also because my father, who passed recently, is actually in it as an extra (soon as the music stops at the statue unveiling he's center shot in the crowd w sunglasses on). I think the music specifically in this holds a special place for me, as hearing even a single note brings forth so many happy memories. And Oh, man, that speech by Adrian. Incredible writing.
Rocky III!!!!! My favorite!!! Eye of the Tiger! I love Apollo in this! So dope to see him & Duke training Rocky & becoming his friends. Also, Adrian's speech was the truth! Great scene by Talia Shire. And of course... First name: Mr. Last name: T!!!! Clubber Lang stole the show!
This year's is Rocky III 40th anniversary. Since I first saw this in the movie at the theater at the age of 15, and as many time I've seen it there after, I still tear up when Micky dies.
"This song is so fitting" , Eye of the Tiger was made for this film. "Went the distance" =going the distance with Creed, "They stacked the odds" =picking opponents they knew he could beat easily to stay champion. At one point Creed tells Rocky he had "the eye of the Tiger " when he fought him.
Adrian's talk. She wouldn't let Rocky BS himself. He had to be honest with himself to find the courage to overcome this situation. The women every man needs in their life.
This movie is my favorite in the whole series, and one of my favorite films ever, if only for Adrian’s speech to Rocky on that beach. As a man, it resonates with me so much. Also 25:45 that was just adorable 😅
The painting of Rocky that hangs in the training room AND the iconic painting at the end, were both done by artist Leroy Neiman - better known as the Announcer for the Wrestling Fight with the great line "...until next year. Thank god." If you continue with the series, you'll see the painting again.
Love that you enjoyed this one so much...i have argued that this one should be held higher in the series ranks for years...most everyone I've ever discussed it with have pt. 4 higher...pt 4 gets tons of love, but, from a film perspective, it's basically a long montage
Rocky 3 is such a masterpiece, great story and so well balanced. When you know a movie doesn't need a directors cut is good! Rocky 3 is a far far better movie then R4,no doubt about that. But of course ppl can have their favorite.
You've gotta do the whole series! It's a fantastic journey with these characters that is continued into the Creed movies. The Elton John closing of Rocky V is just beautiful!
This one is my third favorite mainly because of Eye of the Tiger being my favorite song and Clubber Lang being one of the toughest opponents Rocky has ever faced.
@@historyofnerdom6111 Lang is much tougher than Drogo. Lang beat Rocky in his prime. Drogo beat a retired guy and then lost to Rocky while he was on steroids.
Mick dying is one of the roughest things to ever watch in cinema, and Stallone sells the emotion of being there when someone you love dies so, so well.
Sly's career was into overdrive. This was suppose to be the final chapter in the saga. Mr.T's introduction was golden and pretty much made his career legendary. Burgess Meredith (passed away in 1998) as Mickey for one last time was so heartbreaking. Rocky & Apollo's friendship was the best onscreen pairing and working together made them both champions.
The statute at the top of the museum steps was such a meta moment. It remained at the top of the steps till the late 1990's and was moved down to the corner of it's street. You can still visit Philly and it''ll be in the same place. Btw, for Rocky IV; you have 2 choices:the original cut (1985) or the director's cut (2021)?
Mary, I'm not the biggest fan of Rocky IV, but I really love V and the ones after. There is still more character growth and change. One of the best things about these series of stories about Rocky is they don't really feel repetitive even if some parts are really similar.
IV was definitely a bit heavy on the USA vs USSR...but a lot of people ate that up at the time. The interviews with Stallone talking about hiring Dolph Lundgren are funny.
Finally someone saying Rocky iV is less than mediocre; at the time it came out, it was my favorite but I was a kid. It probably has the best soundtrack which I still work out too. Story wise though: Rocky 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 4.
The painting of Rocky is by an artist named LeRoy Neiman who was in the film as the ring announcer for the fight against Thunderlips. He painted hundreds of famous sports moments from the 70s and 80s in that very stylized manner.

Huge credit goes to Stallone and the writers on continuing to develop great stories to continue the Rocky storyline.
Stallone IS "the writers". It's just him.

Hardly. Barely. Inspiration from many places. First of all from other films - in particular:
Marty (1955)
On The Waterfront (1954)
Somebody Up There Likes Me (1956)
Requiem For A Heavyweight (1962)
I was right there with you girl when mickey passed 😢 Such a powerful performance by sly and so believable.
Boxing is a terrible fighting system. Anyone with Rocky's body could beat any boxer in Paulie's.
@@redrick8900 Not true.
@@redrick8900
It takes one punch to be lights out.
@@Geronimo_Jehoshaphat Not in reality.
@@redrick8900
Yes, in reality.
If a man can punch, and he connects - that beautiful body will buckle under rubber knees no matter what.
And this is why I love Mary Cherry.
Let’s all just take a moment and take in just how freaking beautiful Mary looks
Agree with you Nat.Mary’s absolutely freakin’ beautiful.👍😸
The heavy screams of Rocky after he lost Mick makes me cry every fucking time, it's like it's not even acted
Probably the most emotional death scenes I've ever watched
I love the way Rocky and Apollo’s relationship came full circle. And then the evolution of Adrian’s character. And to cap it off, the iconic painting that they end the movie with.
The painting at 11:41 was by Leroy Neiman. Who was also the ring announcer for the charity fight for Rocky and Thunderlips.
It's hard to talk much about the series without spoiling anything, so your viewers have been kind to let you discover them personally.
Sometimes, one line in a song or movie, will hit you right between the eyes, and never let go. For me this was " For the first time in my life, I'm afraid".
Seriously Mary, please watch Sylvester Stallone again in First Blood. That's my best Stallone movie ever IMO.
The First Blood series was pretty damned good. (also known as Rambo's)
Love Rambo
Your reactions are the best I've ever seen. So much passion.
I love how you are so invested in this movie. I know reactors tend to amplify reactions, but I genuinely believe you felt this one. Glad you enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one.
I feel like apologizing to you for the Mick scene I just wanted to give you a hug, heartbreaking!😭
Yes👏👏👏
Rocky 4 was great maybe the best one lol
Rocky IV is easily one of the most memorable of the whole series. It's a must-watch at this point for you. Just prepare the tissues.
The last words anyone should hear before they die are "I love you". Mickey was able to say it and hear it. Such is very important for closure.
Bless your sweet heart, Mary (watching Mick die)
I knew the Mick moment was going to make you ball. Of all the sad moments through the series of the movies, this was the toughest.
*bawl
I blame autocorrect 🙄
Lovely to see you so invested in this character. I forgot how good Rocky 3 was.
Please don't leave it here, I'm so excited about watching you with Rocky IV and 5, that last one really reaches my heart 💖💖💖
Rocky III is my favourite Rocky movie. I love it so much & it's the one I always rewatch.
One of the best movie reactions I’ve ever seen. Laughed out loud several times. Thanks for this!
The 4th one is the one I watch on repeat!!! Please please please don’t miss that one!!!! I LOVE it and would love it if you reacted to it. 😊
Can’t wait for the next one! Rocky 4 is a fan favorite.
The underdog and never giving up theme is something we can all relate to. Stallone deserves so much credit! Rocky saga is a timeless story.
A man without fear is a man without hope nor love
Rocky III!!!!! My favorite!!! Eye of the Tiger! I love Apollo in this! So dope to see him & Duke training Rocky & becoming his friends. Also, Adrian's speech was the truth! Great scene by Talia Shire. And of course... First name: Mr. Last name: T!!!! Clubber Lang stole the show!
I love ur crying reaction!
2:00 - Eye of the Tiger was written for this movie, and it became a hit when this movie came out.
yes that song was made for rocky.. the movie company couldn’t decide until sylvester heard the song and loved it
Rocky IV is probably my favorite. I use the sound track to go to the gym. Anytime I need to be encouraged, I'd watch Rocky IV.
Also 25:45 that was just adorable 😅
thank you for continuing!
The painting of Rocky that hangs in the training room AND the iconic painting at the end, were both done by artist Leroy Neiman - better known as the Announcer for the Wrestling Fight with the great line "...until next year. Thank god." If you continue with the series, you'll see the painting again.
When she gets to creed movies im going to be glued to her reactionssssss😭
Love that you enjoyed this one so much...i have argued that this one should be held higher in the series ranks for years...most everyone I've ever discussed it with have pt. 4 higher...pt 4 gets tons of love, but, from a film perspective, it's basically a long montage
Rocky 3 is such a masterpiece, great story and so well balanced. When you know a movie doesn't need a directors cut is good! Rocky 3 is a far far better movie then R4,no doubt about that. But of course ppl can have their favorite.
Rocky is a real life anime....adversary becomes friend, powerups, motivation, getting stronger montages, the first bromance, etc
You've gotta do the whole series! It's a fantastic journey with these characters that is continued into the Creed movies. The Elton John closing of Rocky V is just beautiful!
She meets Drago next!
Love your genuine reactions. Thank you for reacting to this classic film 🤩
This one is my third favorite mainly because of Eye of the Tiger being my favorite song and Clubber Lang being one of the toughest opponents Rocky has ever faced.
I’m back and forth on burning heart and eye of the tiger both are too good
@@isaacthompson4915
No Easy Way Out is my favorite song of all time so I have a huge bias towards IV despite me liking the plot of lll better.
Ivan drago has entered the chat
@@historyofnerdom6111 Lang is much tougher than Drogo. Lang beat Rocky in his prime. Drogo beat a retired guy and then lost to Rocky while he was on steroids.
@@redrick8900 Yes Clubber would've destroyed Drago if he wasn't on steroids.
Mick dying is one of the roughest things to ever watch in cinema, and Stallone sells the emotion of being there when someone you love dies so, so well.
I'm so happy u are doing the Rocky and Creed saga. Please keep going and do them all, new creed coming out next year in theaters.
Fun fact: The actor who played Paulie (Burt Young) served in the military and was a boxer while in service.
Today I found out there is a directors cut! I need to check it out.
Did you know Burgess Meredith played the Penguin in the old Batman tv show?
I vote the original, at least for the first viewing.
@@boki1693 of course. i knew of him from that before i ever saw the Rocky films.
Original cut imo.
I LOVE WATCHING your reactions....especially to this. I'm a 50 year old man and I've seen Rocky III well over 100x and cry everytime!
@@DamnedEyez oh, I know. I was 9 when it came out. I myself ate it up then, but now it's a bit heavy handed.
All are 10/10 movies don’t @ me I just speak facts
Finally someone saying Rocky iV is less than mediocre; at the time it came out, it was my favorite but I was a kid. It probably has the best soundtrack which I still work out too. Story wise though: Rocky 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 4.
@@ashrafbadreddine9470 I was 9 when it came out and loved it then too. Now, not so much.
Mr T is a really nice dude... and loves his mother...he even wrote a song about respecting moms.
The painting of Rocky is by an artist named LeRoy Neiman who was in the film as the ring announcer for the fight against Thunderlips. He painted hundreds of famous sports moments from the 70s and 80s in that very stylized manner.
Only five more rocky movies to watch. Definitely watch all of them
I was INSPIRED by this film, growing up, as a child. If it helps, Mary I cried too when Mick passed away.
