I was there, my feet didn't touch the floor for the 1st 2 U2 songs, then the rain caused issues with the sound and Bono told jokes for 5 minutes. Spear of Destiny and the Ramones were brilliant too. Billy Bragg brought humour to the day. Despite the rain it was a very memorable day.
I went to the Longest Day the year after too and everybody was going down with heatstroke. Unbelievable difference in the weather. I loved them both though. Great memories!
What a fucking day that was went in fully clothed sliding down the banks naked met a girl went home naked covered in mud pre mobile phones and all that shit. Married the girl I met tow awesome children my son now 30 years old massive U2 fan unfortunately the marriage didn’t last still love her to bit we are still best friends what more can I say
Just remembered this gig, just cause it’s the longest day😂, it was pretty awesome, pissed it down people were sliding around in the mud naked and shit, what a day and I didn’t care one bit about being soaked to the skin
Was just the most amazing day , down came the rain , once you are soaked you are soaked . when U2 took the stage the steam from the soaked , squashed hordes filled the air... and with the surrounding haze from the Orange streetlights Milk and Beans Bowl became Red Rocks...... AWESOME !!!
we and mates went down in a van from Oldham- night before- then went for it big time. I had first seen U2 in 81 - still seeing them to this day so over 100 gigs- but this had special memories xx
I was there for my favourite band of all time the Ramones, although a fan of U2 and REM both whom I had already seen previously. Kinda cheesed off that REM played 2nd to U2 that day.
I was there, almost at the front in my Alarm poppy denim jacket. My first U2 gig.
Who remembers the sliding in the mud down that hill lol
I was there, it pissed down all day and people emptied the bins to use the bin liners. Great day.
First time I saw u2 live as a 16 year old. Some support acts too. Billy Bragg,REM,Ramones
I remember the fireworks at the end
great day, rained all day but rain stopped as soon as U2 came on.went home in my old cortina after getting it stuck

I was there. Billy Bragg (lol), Spear of Destiny, REM and then some.... but all that mattered was U2, so worth the wait and shitty weather!
The unforgetable fire tour

mud bath, loved it... think that might have been REMs first gig in UK
Soaked for 12 hours solid. Fun though!
The rain the mud the bottles of piss flying through the air , Billy Bragg being pelted. Then U2 came on and the clouds parted. What a day.
