Thank you for this pattern. I just finished making it for my basset hound. I had to make the ear holes wider to fit his big, low ears. It took me a couple hours of lovingly crocheting my gift to him. He wore it for a minute for picture time and then tore it off and then gnawed on it. I don't think he likes wearing hats. Anyways, it was my first dog hat and a good learning experience. Thanks a lot.
Hahaha, your basset hound sounds like my corgi! He hates wearing hats but looks so cute in them. I’m glad you enjoyed the tutorial. Thank you so much for commenting.
I'm a 15 year old girl who's been getting into crochet, I wanted to make my dog a cute hat and this video is litereally the best I could find, you are so good at explaining it's really helpful, and you just have a very nice vibe so it's nice to have while learning to crochet, you just earned another subscriber!! :))
@lillianbahena1326, this warms my heart. Congratulations on joining all of us crochet fans. You will love having this skill. I wanted to thank you for the really nice comment and thank you for subscribing. Please reach out to me if you ever have questions. 😁
@@montanacrochetcreations You're welcome!! I do have one question, so I want to make one for my pug but I'm not sure if she'll be a large or a small, I started the small and I doesn't seem like it'll fit so far, she does have a big head though lol😂
@@diordiva16 I would definitely try the medium. Our corgi is 28 pounds with a normal size head and it fits him perfect. You can go up or down a half a crochet hook size to make it larger or smaller. I definitely think that a medium is a good starting point for your pug. If you search Santa hat on my channel I believe it will show up. It’s a pic of our corgi wearing it. I can send you the link in the morning that will take you directly to the medium one.
Ok so I hardly ever leave comments but your tutorial for this dog hat is AMAZING! I have just recently learned how to crochet and your step by step clear instructions and video helped me nail this project... if I do say so myself haha! I am definitely subscribing because I'd love to see more tutorials from you :) This size is perfect for my shepherd mix - I'll picture and post to social later today - and I will probably try to make two more bigger ones for my two rotties. Thanks so much!
@April9415, Thank you so much for your kind comment. You have no idea how happy it makes me to hear that you were able to complete this project easily. I can't wait to see the pictures of your Shepherd mix. I also wanted to thank you so much for subscribing to my channel. Hello, I am in the process of creating patterns for all of my projects and adding them to my etsy store. I am also in the process of adding them to my blog at www.montanacrochetcreations.com I hope to have everything added to both here in the next few weeks.
Will you be uploading this pattern in all sizes? I have a small, two medium and one large dog. My sister has an extra small dog and I would love to know the difference in numbers so, we can all match this Christmas 😃
Good Morning @crenadventures, here is the link for the XS size: ruclips.net/video/OfyNdkLaxDc/видео.html Here is the link for the medium: ruclips.net/video/fraD_WZc_dI/видео.html and here is the link for the large: ruclips.net/video/xausFv_94sc/видео.html I will be uploading the small hat next Tuesday so keep and eye out for it. When making the XS you can follow all the steps but just change the colors like you would in the medium and large tutorials. Instead of the grinch hair you can make a small pom pom for the top. The small hat I am uploading will be inspired by a turkey but you can follow the same stitch patterns to create it for your small dog. I hope your fur family pictures turn out fabulous this Christmas! Happy Holidays!
The final measurements are as follows: 10.5” wide at the bottom of the hat. 4.75” from top to bottom of the hat. Space between the ears is approximately 7”. Thanks for the comment.
Hi Missy Brigner, Here is the link for the Medium Santa Dog Hat. ruclips.net/video/fraD_WZc_dI/видео.html I think this should fit the weiner dog. Our Corgi is around 26 pounds. if it seems to be a little to big ho down a half a crochet hook size for your dog. Thanks again and have fun making it :)
@venniepala9915, Here is the link for the small: ruclips.net/video/Nacgt84pTOQ/видео.html Here is the link for the XS: ruclips.net/video/OfyNdkLaxDc/видео.html You can change the colors however you like. Just follow the directions for the beanie and you will be just fine.
Hi sorry I’m confused I re did it like 3 times. I think as we get to the 5th row and we do 5DC and then an increase into the 6th stitch it goes wrong as 6 doesn’t go into 40 (40 stitches are what we have after row 4) and from then on the stitch count is wrong. Is there a way to fix this?
Hmmm, not sure what the problem is? Everyone else seems to be okay making the beanie? If the stitch count is off that may be because I said it wrong. All you need to do is follow the directions as is and not worry about the stitch count I guess? So far no one else has messaged me about this so it should be okay if you just follow along and not worry about the stitch count. This also includes beginner crocheters that have messaged me saying that they made it with ease. 🤷🏼♀️
I was having this issue, I recounted a few times, but will just be going forward with the 46 total stitches for row 5. Although the pattern didn’t fully complete.
I thought I was going crazy!! I restarted several times. I have 40 stitches at the end of row 4, but by the end of row 5, there isn't enough stitches left for the last increase. I'm not really a fan of the response you were given either. I thought maybe she meant to say "crochet 1 double crochet into the next 4 stitches and increase," in order to continue with the pattern from the previous rows, but that gave me 49 stitches when I tried it - not 46. I don't know what I'm missing
Outside of the issue of not really being to able to complete this hat without guesswork, I thought the set up and directions were given clearly. I'll check out other tutorials for that reason, but will move on from this one for now.
Ugh. I worked so hard. And while it seemed to come out correctly, it was still too small for my rottie. Any tips on how to make it larger than a large. It also seemed to curl up around the edges. Thanks for this tutorial either way. 😢
I would definitely size up your crochet hook and maybe use a #5 weight yarn. I think I said to use a 5.5 mm hook. You could size up to a 6.5mm hook or use a chunky yarn and that should help. You could also add another row of increase round if he/she has a big head. How big is your rottie?
@@montanacrochetcreations He has an average size head. I thought for sure the size on your german shepard would fit him. I think I might need to try to adjust the ear holes as well. What would the next increase round be?
@@Jmw1499 let me play around with it and see. Could you do me a favor and measure the distance between his ears? I can create a pattern that hopefully would fit. I could use monkey as a guide, it would just be a little big on her. Let me know and I’ll try and make a xl pattern.
I have someone who wants me to make this for their German shepherd. However they want me to add ears so his ears are protected. How should I do that? Should I make cones and attach or make two flat pieces, sew together, and add to the hat? I’m confused lol.
@averya7443, yes, that’s exactly what I would do. I would ask them to take measurements of the width and height of their German shepherds ears and make it slightly larger. That would be so cute. I may have to make that myself for our German shepherd and our corgi. Thank you so much for commenting. Let me know if you have any questions. :)
