I never comment any videos on youtube, but I have to say that this is the best golf video I have ever seen. Yesterday I played a golf tournament and I played so well just by keeping these three keys in mind. This is a really great channel!!! Greetings from Germany and keep up this great work!
Those 3 descriptions are so beautifully clear and helpful the third one really is eye opening for me been trying to keep my right hip back to prevent comming forward tks
This video was very much a 💡 moment for me. Being a former pitcher, I struggle with “pushing off” with my Trail foot. The term “flow movement” was very enlightening. I can hardly wait to try this at the range. Great information and explanations.
Always the best golf swing content out there (IMHO)! Love the thought on knee/leg focus instead of hip focus on the downswing. Here's been my thought on the lesson tee... what do you think? The back swing proceeds "top to bottom" ... the shoulder turn (and not the hands) bring the club to parallel - and the shoulder turn on the backswing "compels" the hips to turn passively... the downswing, on the other hand, proceeds from the ground up "bottom to top" the back foot initiates the "knee switch" which gets the hips moving correctly which then gets the torso, the chest, the shoulders, and finally the arms and hands to fire sequentially... so the golf swing is "Top to Bottom... Bottom to Top"... am I onto something or where am I "off the rails"?
I’ve been working through so many of your instructions and it has done wonders for my swing. But I had some factor in there that was holding me back or blocking my getting to my best swing giving me my most consistent ball flight. The other day at the range it clicked BIG TIME and everything changed. Something that you should ABSOLUTELY create a full length video instruction for. There is a huge difference between “turning” in the backswing as opposed to “rotating” in the backswing. Pete Cowan made a quick mention of this and it popped into my head. From the bottom at address I made my draw back with the club feel as if I was slightly rolling my left wrist forward and instead of turning backward and forcing the club into what felt like the correct plane, I simply rotated my upper torso allowing my left shoulder to dip down where it freely wanted to go, then re-centered forward as I rotated my upper torso while my arms dropped into my down swing. The club actually felt light at the top and gained terrific speed on the way down through impact. WOW!! What I discovered was, no matter how well I found all the right positions intentionally, turning back created the need to direct the club into the proper position for the downswing. But rotating the upper torso and letting the hips follow accordingly sets up a very natural fall of that club and when you again rotate in the same fashion down while feeling the club freely doing that whip, it feels like far less effort to hit with quite a bit of power and consistency. Hope that all makes sense because it was a very interesting discovery for me and that’s the best way I can describe it. I was turning back not rotating and the difference was night and day. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
@@AthleticMotionGolf, that description definitely sounds exactly how it feels. That tells me I’m doing it right. Thanks for all those videos that have helped me in a HUGE way in my mission to recisteict my swing the proper way. I have literally never played the game better and a lot of that has to do with what I’ve learned for you two. No doubt. 👍🏻😎👍🏻
Another great sessions Guys - making it is so clear and most of all structured. Too many coaches tell golfers ABOUT the golf swing you tell us HOW to make it.
You guys are the gold standard. I am doing this all wrong, especially with driver. I am using my hips to control my swing and find my move back might be a 55 degree turn but i can only manage a 25 on the downswing. Started by trying to control hook and a bunch of other problems. Thanks for this i will be more conscious of my knees and upper body turn rather than just letting my hips control everything. I already automatically recenter but maybe more work with a wall will help. Thanks as always
Love the "re-centering" tip. Also, on downswing, I have found lifting my right (trail) heel on the forward shift helps the left side into extension as the whole trail side gets into flexion (Dr Kwon, walking movement- Mike Austin actually identifies this as critical to getting on front post allowing trail hip freedom to turn after shift) . Your system using gears is a great visual and compliment to the kinetic movement they describe). Thank you!
I’ve been trying to get back into golf for years but just couldn’t get it working. Your three keys, especially the knees as I have been swaying left on the downswing straightening the right knee, have helped to get me rotating properly. Many thanks.
Love this channel. The only channel I trust! I was wondering, would you guys be able to cover the small lowering movement in the downswing in greater detail? I was wondering if it is the same as the "squat" movement both Sam Snead and Tiger are known for.
"...worried about early extension..." such an excellent point here. That was me when I was trying to implement the left hip back piece...it "felt" like I was early extending but as Shaun mentions the right hip needs to come off the wall. PHEW thanks for this! Excellent vid again!
Love you guys!! Have to be my favorite RUclips instructor’s. Have a question for you guys about the left shoulder movement on the backswing I’m not sure a great way to explain it without standing right in front of you but on my backswing should my left shoulder feel like it stays the same level so when I turn back I’m pushing it down almost versus rising it into my chin that just seems to be my normal motion I was wondering as I turned back if I should almost feel like my left shoulder is working down thank you
So would it be correct to say that the hips pivot rather than turn? When I think of them turning, I think about the entire pelvis rotating around the spine and it’s difficult to get that open in the downswing. When I think about it pivoting or working on a pulley system forward and back, on an angle created by the forward bend, it becomes easier.
You guys have some of the most accurate information out there! Thank you for dispelling many myths in faulty concepts. Dr. Kwon has also helped expose some really old and bad information out there. Question for you: Do you guys have a good way of teaching how to get lead side pressure early without allowing COM to far forward? Mike, you eluded to it a bit in this video that the re-centering is not to far forward. Thanks in advance for your time👍
We were in Dr Kwon’s lab nearly 10 years ago. We find when folks measure, the results aren’t too far apart😊. Shifting pressure is more about unweighting. Meaning if you want to shift pressure to the front foot (without over sway weight), you have to lighten your trail foot. That’s what shifts pressure. We cringe 😬 when we hear folks who don’t measure say things like pushing off the back foot shifts pressure forward🤦♂️. That shifts weight forward while shifting pressure backwards (under the foot that’s pushing).
I use to rotate the hips real fast at beginning of takeaway, my coach had me feel until hands get to trail thigh to feel hips not rotating. This feel actually helped me rotate hips better. On video they are rotating but much slower.
Sean and Mike, another great video... on the surface, in the video there appears to be some contradictory advice on whether or not 'backing in' is a good or bad thing? Some golfers avoid that sensation of putting one's tailbone back towards the corner. Obviously we need some hip tilt and angle so we can get 'downhill' but how much backing in is good and at what point does it become problematic? It seems like some of that relates to address - set up with too much reverse K or weight to the trail side and things can get wonky fast. Not asking you guys to give away the 'secret sauce' here for free ;-) but some clarification between when 'backing in' becomes a fault or an issue would be enlightening. Just a suggestion for future content. You guys do great work and have the best jobs on the planet.
Amazing video! Do you have any suggestions to stop your arms from collapsing and letting go of the grip during the recentering? On video as I recenter with the weight of the club head going back to the target I have a nasty problem of arms collapsing
Your professional personal explanation of how these 3 areas work is much better than using Avitar examples to explain these areas of the swing cant beat the personal touch of both of you working together

Question: will increased body rotation on the downswing help move the low point forward? Finally got on Gears with a local pro and while my backswing rotation is great my downswing rotation is fairly minimal (while my weight shift is great). Wondering if poor rotation might be part of why I still hit it far way more than I want to
This is so key, the thing that tricks me is how small the swing feels, but it's not irs actually a massive turn, it's just way less body and arm movement when my lower body rotates correctly...the recentering is key too, it feels like you start your downswing I'm the middle of your backswing, crazy feeling but you'll flush it when you get it correct
So is it safe to assume that the pelvis drives the lower body more than the knees and legs. Like the chest drives the upper half more than the arms and elbows?
We see the pelvis driving the lower create a lot of issues for golfers. Many of them focus on moving the pelvis a bunch causing very poor leg movements. Instead, good leg movements typically give them the pelvis movements they’ve been chasing 😊
@@AthleticMotionGolf so in essence, the concept is the trail thigh is more or less perpendicular to the ground at impact? Pointing down at the ground, not out towards the bal?
Great video, the 3 key things i now try to master in my 11yr! journey down to 4hcp,Set Up,Sequencing and Resistance(i havnt mastered this yet! but its the key to starting transition on your backswing) Your sledgehammer analogy is great as 99% of all great ball strikers learnt golf as a weak kid, when the club must have felt like one! and having used their lowerbody to start momentum you have to resist otherwise you would never get the sledgehammer to swing back Like most golfers who start late in life and have been good at other sports,i massively overdo the backswing, ive never done this in other sports
I have really struggled with the re-centering move. I am a senior golfer with a 16 handicap and my coach says that re-centering before completing the backswing is just too difficult for the average mid-handicap amateur. What do you boys think?
I would say find a new coach. If you can’t re-center in time maybe you have shifted to much weight late into the backswing. This is not a strength or flexibility issue. It’s a timing and sequencing issue.
Great video but I have such a hard time with this move. My hips want to turn straight away when I shift to the right and I find it nigh on impossible to separate the upper and lower body movement. When my upper body rotates, my hips just want to follow! ☹️
@@AthleticMotionGolf Tried that as well and still can’t shift without rotating the hips! 😂 Honestly, I’m reaching the conclusion that I just wasn’t meant to play golf!
@@AthleticMotionGolf Right, it’s back to the drawing board. I’ve also got the AMG+ membership and haven’t been making use of the Facebook page so I’ll start doing that as well! 👍
Just that I don’t want to do something crazy with my swing…though I DO feel I’m hitting the ball better…it IS a sort of job interview because I plan on following your advice exclusively…Too many YOU TUBE videos out here ..I like how you present things..hope you are not offended!
Fellas, big fan of AMG! Early extension, here's my remedy; forget about pelvic depth and all other non athletic thoughts. In fact, forget about the lower body and concentrate on one thing, a bent right wrist at impact. It is physically impossible to get anywhere near the ground (much less the ball) with even the smallest amount of wrist bend. If you are able to compress a golf ball with a bent right wrist you are guaranteed adequate pelvic depth and a host of other key positions will also occur naturally. This is not an easy task for any of us 'goat humpers' out there, but it really addresses the issue with just one swing thought. No need to attach your rear end to a chair or a wall, etc. Again, you guys are my go to golf instruction channel. The Pro vs. Am stuff is so informative!
There is a million different ways people Coach and it can get confusing sometimes. I’ll always fall back on what the pros do. If they do it a certain way then I should be striving for that whether I get there or not.
Using the left knee to start the downswing and expecting it to transfer the weight has also been a hugh mistake of mine it has been thaught forever by just about every Pro out there not good to say the least tks again
“You will get all the rotation you need by changing knee flex. Left bent and in on backswing - right on the downswing. Not early extension if right buttocks comes off wall on downswing if left goes stays on wall and deep!” 🤯
Where is the pivot point of the pelvis - is it in the center of the pelvis both in backswing and downswing or what. Your bones view of Sep 3, 2018 makes me unsure. I always thought that the R hip should go only slightly forward "off the glass" ( toward the ball) in the downswing a la Greg Norman such that the R leg should move toward the target (contracting adductors) rather than what it seems like you are advocating above which sounds like a push back at a 45 degree or so angle with the Right leg.
amazed how much poor instruction there was 20 years ago, sensors, 3d imaging, weight sensing plates, and physicists studying the swing sure has changed instruction for the better

@@AthleticMotionGolf what are your guys thought on the left leg only swing drill?
@@kyleschleter9824 used it in a lesson today🙂
Tell me more about this concept of a vertical trail leg at impact!
Yessir. The trail hip (thigh) moves from flexion at the top towards extension coming down. Typically arriving at impact in extension.
@@AthleticMotionGolf so in essence, the concept is the trail thigh is more or less perpendicular to the ground at impact? Pointing down at the ground, not out towards the bal?

Can you please show us a video with lines from up the line, most video's are Down the line and center and above.
From the target view?
Yes, please...
Great video, the 3 key things i now try to master in my 11yr! journey down to 4hcp,Set Up,Sequencing and Resistance(i havnt mastered this yet! but its the key to starting transition on your backswing)
Your sledgehammer analogy is great as 99% of all great ball strikers learnt golf as a weak kid, when the club must have felt like one! and having used their lowerbody to start momentum you have to resist otherwise you would never get the sledgehammer to swing back
Like most golfers who start late in life and have been good at other sports,i massively overdo the backswing, ive never done this in other sports
The knee movement reminds me of Mike Austin
I have really struggled with the re-centering move. I am a senior golfer with a 16 handicap and my coach says that re-centering before completing the backswing is just too difficult for the average mid-handicap amateur. What do you boys think?
Looks like your need a different coach...how can something so simple be too difficult?
I would say find a new coach. If you can’t re-center in time maybe you have shifted to much weight late into the backswing. This is not a strength or flexibility issue. It’s a timing and sequencing issue.
@@jeffcaminiti162 ... 👍👍
Great video but I have such a hard time with this move. My hips want to turn straight away when I shift to the right and I find it nigh on impossible to separate the upper and lower body movement. When my upper body rotates, my hips just want to follow! ☹️
You Have to slow down and work it out first at a slower pace
@@AthleticMotionGolf Tried that as well and still can’t shift without rotating the hips! 😂 Honestly, I’m reaching the conclusion that I just wasn’t meant to play golf!
@@rossferguson417 every time someone tells us that they aren’t even close to going slow enough to make it happen😊
@@AthleticMotionGolf Right, it’s back to the drawing board. I’ve also got the AMG+ membership and haven’t been making use of the Facebook page so I’ll start doing that as well! 👍
Can you give us your credentials again? I think you’re right on. But so different from how I was taught …did jack nicklaus di it this way?
Our Credentilas? Is this a job interview ? 😀We’ve worked with 7 winners on the pga tour this year alone.
Just that I don’t want to do something crazy with my swing…though I DO feel I’m hitting the ball better…it IS a sort of job interview because I plan on following your advice exclusively…Too many YOU TUBE videos out here ..I like how you present things..hope you are not offended!
@@armandaliotta7065 No sir not at all. You're doing a very smart thing (asking questions from who you listen to) 🤓
Fellas, big fan of AMG!
If they do it a certain way then I should be striving for that whether I get there or not.
absolutely. same with us
brothre, you uploaded superb -catch you later,
👊🙏🏻
Using the left knee to start the downswing and expecting it to transfer the weight has also been a hugh mistake of mine it has been thaught forever by just about every Pro out there not good to say the least tks again
Great comment here!!! 👍🏻👍🏻
“You will get all the rotation you need by changing knee flex. Left bent and in on backswing - right on the downswing. Not early extension if right buttocks comes off wall on downswing if left goes stays on wall and deep!” 🤯
This is why Matt wolf does that move and lifts his heel
Where is the pivot point of the pelvis - is it in the center of the pelvis both in backswing and downswing or what. Your bones view of Sep 3, 2018 makes me unsure. I always thought that the R hip should go only slightly forward "off the glass" ( toward the ball) in the downswing a la Greg Norman such that the R leg should move toward the target (contracting adductors) rather than what it seems like you are advocating above which sounds like a push back at a 45 degree or so angle with the Right leg.
You guys charge $5,000 for half a day and $10,000 for a full day, for one person? Is that 12 and 24 hours at $417 per hour?
its 3 hour half day and 6 hour full day. Not sure we could make it 24 hours straight haha
amazed how much poor instruction there was 20 years ago, sensors, 3d imaging, weight sensing plates, and physicists studying the swing sure has changed instruction for the better
Yeah I’m still recovering from some of the bad lessons I took over the years
The more videos I watch the worse I get

@@AthleticMotionGolf it's hard to diagnose my own problems so I just try new videos every week. But honestly I'm getting better, just not in an efficient way
