Great vocals by Miss Reid and very tight orchestration
Damn! This is pure perfection.
Thesegeniuses should never die! ...
New to me, must find out more about this lady
Basie had one of the greatest bands/orchestras only the best musicians.
Imagine being born with pipes like this!
She worked hard, hard, to get them this good, though, guaranteed.
Golden!!!I remember hearing Irene standing outside of Dino's lounge in Philly in the late 70"s..She's a Treasure!!!
My favorite female singer of all time. My father God rest his soul had her album room for one more. I still have the album to this day! I believe it came out in 1965.
So do I. Wish they would reissue this album
Irene, Basie and the blues.. oh yeah!
Just wish somebody would release Irene's earlier work.
To my naive ear the styling of this piece reminds me of Joe Williams, which I consider a great complement.
Song called "Blackwater Blues"
Backwater Blues en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backwater_Blues
That is the music we would get high on
Blow that horn, daddy!
does anyone know where I can find the full video of this concert? It used to be uploaded on youtube but I can't find it anywhere now
