Footage of Helen Forrest & Harry James - Medley
Просмотров 25 тыс.12 лет назад
Harry James & Helen Forrest doing a Medley of their most memorable hits.
Как сейчас не хватает такой человечной,искренней музыки!
Basie had one of the greatest bands/orchestras only the best musicians.
My father’s favorite band and trumpeter, I grew up listening to this with my dad. James was the best.
I believe this is from the Merv Griffin Show when he did several salutes to the big band era....
Blow that horn, daddy!
Most of the arrangements in this performance were watered-down into much lower keys because Harry could no longer play in the same keys as the original recordings. He just didn't have the chops anymore. He did so much drinking and hard living that he lost his teeth and had to have dentures, and he was never the same afterwards. "You Made Me Love You" sounds really pathetic in the keys played on this video, way too low. In this video, Harry is only 61 years old in this video, by which he was already a mere shadow of his former self. Doc Severinsen, on the other hand, was still in his prime in his early 60s and was still screaming and wailing right into his 80s. Doc is now in his 90s and due to couple of strokes, has finally declined, but no one ever did it better and for longer than Doc Severinsen.
Obviously you haven't seen Harry and his boys, featuring Buddy Rich, smoke Two O'Clock Jump in a live performance recorded in 1965. James was amazing. Must have before he got his falsies.
New to me, must find out more about this lady
Why don't they play this music in supermarkets instead of the ranting and raving alternative ???

Great music. Was not expecting the Kanji.
Golden!!! I remember hearing Irene standing outside of Dino's lounge in Philly in the late 70"s.. She's a Treasure!!!
That's outstanding.
My favorite female singer of all time. My father God rest his soul had her album room for one more. I still have the album to this day! I believe it came out in 1965.
So do I. Wish they would reissue this album
Song called "Blackwater Blues"
Backwater Blues en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backwater_Blues
To my naive ear the styling of this piece reminds me of Joe Williams, which I consider a great complement.
Damn! This is pure perfection.
These geniuses should never die! ...
does anyone know where I can find the full video of this concert? It used to be uploaded on youtube but I can't find it anywhere now
Just wish somebody would release Irene's earlier work.
That is the music we would get high on
Irene, Basie and the blues.. oh yeah!
Imagine being born with pipes like this!
She worked hard, hard, to get them this good, though, guaranteed.
Thank you very much for posting this video! How did we go from this music and beautiful, clear, natural voice singing to what is being presented as music and singing without cessation today?
Does it really get any better than Harry James and Helen Forrest ? and if it does let me know
No, it doesn't! Thanks for the post.
Great vocals by Miss Reid and very tight orchestration
Wonderful, thanks for posting
