I've been in love with this lady for 50years, and have been her friend for the last 20years of her life, she was so nice to be with. I .use her very much.she called me the world's greatest Keel y Smith fan.
When Johnny Mercer wrote: “ quarter to three ain’t nobody in the bar Cept you and me”, he was referring to a song like this. A lot of pain in that voice.
She's GREAT! I remember being in a sheet music store in Times Square, and 2 guys were talking about her...one guy said "great pipes, but what a tramp!" Haha....
I looked up Jane's version. I have to say, It was incredible! What a Beautiful, beautiful voice! It was Ike a sweet lullaby. I can't believe I've never heard of her. I ended up listening to some other songs of hers! Thanks again, Happy Sunday! 💖

I love that. Voice as dry as a martini, pitch perfect, cool piano noodling, what's not to like!
I met her once. a lovely person and an AMAZING talent! I LOVE her singing!

Cool...
An ode to the average Joe. Keely Smith is amazing. Always remember her in the movie "Thunder Road" with Robert Mitchum.
She's always been the real deal
Her voice was so underrated. Her I wish you love album is something that I put on, on the regular. ❤️

@@willzimjohn THAT is my Keely story, that's why....but she sure is great!
here is Keely Smith singing without the distraction and corny antics of her egomaniac husband...
makes a big difference doesn't it?
Wow! I like this rendition best. Compared to this the others are too “sweet”. Keely was an underrated singer in her day.
She did not read music and just sang naturally….she had that gift…which did not need to be taught or modified….
She sounds a bit hoarse, but it’s still an excellent interpretation.⭐️
Listen to Jane Monheit’s version.

Probably not Basie on piano.
One of my favourite songs for 60+ years ...and I HATE her interpretation of it.
