    Bernstein said that a "Musician" is someone who is: A performer, a composer, a conductor, an educator and an Improvisor. Wynton not only checks all the boxes but is a leader in them, all.

    I don't get how anyone can possibly argue Wynton isn't one of the all-time greats. Incredible melodic ideas. Incredible technique. And really seems to be a great teacher.

      Never heard that argument against him

      Keith Jarrett: "Wynton imitates other people's styles too well," he says. "You can't learn to imitate everyone else without a real deficit. I've never heard anything Wynton played sound like it meant anything at all. Wynton has no voice and no presence. His music sounds like a talented high-school trumpet player to me. He plays things really, really,really badly that you cannot screw up unless you are a bad player. I've felt embarrassed listening to him, and I'm white. Behind his humble speech, there is an incredible arrogance. And for a great black player who talks about the blues - I've never heard Wynton play the blues convincingly, and I'd challenge him to a blues standoff any time. He's jazzy the same way someone who drives a BMW is sporty."

    Where does he hear so many good ideas. However despite most saying jazz is freedom, but there is a form. He mentioned melody, will try to keep that at the back and try improvisation

    Not really an example of that synergy...how they end together is simply knowing the end of the tune and playing the final down beat together. Simple stuff, basically counting. How they converse musically as fluently as we do through speech is what's baffling.

    guys, i want to learn do that improvisation. is that 12 bar blues or something?

    • @nathanmallen
      @nathanmallen 6 лет назад +1

      risang android 12 bar blues is the name of the chord progression popularized by jazz, which happy birthday isnt, but as far as what the trumpeter was playing, he was running up and down and around different jazz/blues scales. I suggest u start the simple concert b flat blues scale, and work from there.
