Bernstein said that a "Musician" is someone who is: A performer, a composer, a conductor, an educator and an Improvisor. Wynton not only checks all the boxes but is a leader in them, all.
I don't get how anyone can possibly argue Wynton isn't one of the all-time greats. Incredible melodic ideas. Incredible technique. And really seems to be a great teacher.
Never heard that argument against him
Keith Jarrett: "Wynton imitates other people's styles too well," he says. "You can't learn to imitate everyone else without a real deficit. I've never heard anything Wynton played sound like it meant anything at all. Wynton has no voice and no presence. His music sounds like a talented high-school trumpet player to me. He plays things really, really, really badly that you cannot screw up unless you are a bad player. I've felt embarrassed listening to him, and I'm white. Behind his humble speech, there is an incredible arrogance. And for a great black player who talks about the blues - I've never heard Wynton play the blues convincingly, and I'd challenge him to a blues standoff any time. He's jazzy the same way someone who drives a BMW is sporty."
@@spacegupta71 I never heard Jarrett swingin by himself, he's not just a master of grunting :-)
@@spacegupta71 no way he actually said that
Wynton Marsalis is simply THE BUSINESS love him
Never gets old. I listen to this all the time.
Wow, i can't believe that there's actually more to music than what we usually hear. i just started learning to improvise and I've got to admit that I've never had so music fun with my Euphonium. Marsalis, you're my mentor!
Jazz improvisation is a universal language. I love Jazz !!
Their collective synergy is absolutely amazing.
Master ! Rick Beato shared this on his channel - I LOVE IT . Thanks 🙏 very much .
Yesterday, today and tomorrow ever you are "THE MASTER". W.M.
I can hear him play alone, or with others, all day!
My Favorite Video on the Internet

How not to love New Orleans? Well. As I do believe, with the Clarinet, played masterpieces would sound even better.

6.44! when they meet! Seriously that is one person playing!
I've got exactly the same mouthpiece as the bloke on sax
lemme guess, Rick Beato sent you?
Oh Yeah
Rick who ?
I think they would have done well even without the translator! That is the power music bears..🎺
Would like to see both W&B in same performance
This is Victor Goines, not Branford.
Where does he hear so many good ideas. However despite most saying jazz is freedom, but there is a form. He mentioned melody, will try to keep that at the back and try improvisation
Allahu degjon DI falenderon!Wynton played "phu".
..oh what I'd give to see those kid's faces...LOL...
lol jazz master
recontra chebre
Not really an example of that synergy...how they end together is simply knowing the end of the tune and playing the final down beat together. Simple stuff, basically counting. How they converse musically as fluently as we do through speech is what's baffling.
guys, i want to learn do that improvisation. is that 12 bar blues or something?
risang android 12 bar blues is the name of the chord progression popularized by jazz, which happy birthday isnt, but as far as what the trumpeter was playing, he was running up and down and around different jazz/blues scales. I suggest u start the simple concert b flat blues scale, and work from there.
That’s something you can’t learn, you’ve got it or you just don’t...
J Pea
Now why would you be spreading false information about a subject you obviously don't know about? Even Marsalis would tell you he didn't know how to improvise at once point, he had to learn it!
@KAME HAMEHA Exactly! You can learn anything with enough experience, exposure, and drive.
@@JP-pl9mv That is complete bullshit. Nobody listen to this
Muito bom , só faltou um pouco mais de ritmo , cadência...
Haha 🤡
